oh how i miss new leaf. what i wouldn’t give for books cranny to have multiple upgrades again, to have to unlock shampoodles, for everyone to have their own little stores. oh and the conversations i used to have with my villagers! i played 800hrs of acnl and still got dialogue i was sure i’d never seen before. i miss the little play dates you’d set up for a certain time, the regular delivery and fetch quests, perfect fruit!!!! the island with its different flora and fauna and the little medal games which you could get special furniture with. gracie’s special seasonal furniture!! a post office with my sweet pelly and pete (and my grumpy phyllis). dr shrunk teaching emotions. club lol. easier flower breeding (i find it impossible in new horizons). the amount of time i would play on a game that is new leaf on the new horizons graphics/engine. keep the terraforming and design options/lots of design slots but make the island even bigger so everyone can have a shop!! let me go to tortimers island and mystery islands. i just want all the charm of the old games back. new horizons always feels too much like a design sim with soulless versions of the villagers. here’s hoping one day they port new leaf and just make it even better

you should at least be vaguely familiar with my em. every single au and whatever hetalia character i feel like grabbing for that day goes in there. interesting little tidbit that somehow hasn't come up so far is that in more human AUs of mine he's part irish! ~20% of icelandic males and 60% of females actually have irish/keltic ancestry!!! ireland being his mom hc is going WILD in me. he's also very magic because that headcanon singlehandedly started the ice obsession in me. how well in tune he is with it and how exactly it looks like depends on the au . i also make him closer friends with swe and fin because i can👍

a fusion of 2 groups put into one world, connected by one flimsy tie. it's mostly analogous to real life but no homophobia👍

Mikael started out as a swedish micronation oc but we don't talk about that. he has a chicken called omelette because of inside jokes during... my wattpad era... shudders. i project onto him a lot and lots of his design is just wish fullfillment. while i love my ocs suffering and angst, because i put so much of myself in him, ultimately, his story is one of healing. major point of difference between us though is that his parents abandoned him and mine... didn't.do.that. 💀👍

The Leighlar Pilayden, or blueberry bitchfuck as i like to call him, Half Elf sorcerer who was abandoned as a babg and raised in a cult which, in a world with multiple deities, somehow ended up believing in the *one* that doesn't exist! he's a sorcerer but they all think his powers a blessing from their god

been playing too much Nier these past few days, mostly because on easy mode and with auto-chips combat is a breeze but I still get to enjoy the story for myself, which is good because my hands and energy levels aren't good for anything more than automated fights, quirky robot shenanigans and 99.9% Edge™

and I had to realise that sadly I need to adopt 9S too, the kindergarten of made-up sons is always accepting new members anyway :D

So someone asked what ACNH was missing

And I started typing things and it just. kept. getting. longer. So I thought I’d share it here for all to see what most veteran AC players expected from ACNH as a full priced product on the release date. (Strikeout for things that got added in ACNH 2.0 update, but there’s still a lot of improvement to be made imo!)

Villagers used to have a lot more quests for you like 3-4 villagers play hide and seek around your town, fetch quests from each other that sometimes became a chain quest to find a missing lunchbox thrice loaned out, or some tasks akin to Nook miles ones for specific fish, or furniture of a certain size.

They could also ask to visit your house at a set time and they’d come in and comment and wander round or they could invite you to theirs and sell you some of the furniture on display.

There was mini-games to play with friends (or random players), at an island that was permanently summer, so good fish/bugs/diving all year round. Each day had 3-4 varieties of mini-games out of about 20. Some were just catch a lot of bugs/fish, but there was also random villager hide and seek, collecting ore, finding furniture in houses around a random island, pop balloons, find fruit hidden in a maze and even smashing a rogue lawnmower with hammers.

There would be several smaller events each month in town instead of just the one fishing tourney, and whatever nintendo has you download that month. Things like mothers/fathers day, labor day, various region exclusive holidays to encourage you to visit people for items. Villagers would talk about these.

There was also more than just your campsite for visitors. (and those campers played like 4 different games, not just guess the card and gave some good items including a camping series). There was a campervan site where holiday and NPCs would turn up and have different items you could only buy with an equivalent to nook miles. And you could also scan amiibo to that and then you could potentially have a NPC, a villager campervan and also a camper all at once. Your most recent 16 (well 5th-16th, the latest 4 didn’t show) villagers to move out would sometimes visit the shopping district.

You also had the town where each day you could get your fortune told, see a comedy show for a new emotion, see KK perform daily, whatever Lyle done I can't remember, and visit a homes showcase with up to 48 other players houses where you could order some of their furniture each day. (also had the museum/nooklings/ables/post office/hairdressers/kicks and leif permanently.)

Then in the main town instead of nooklings you had a flea market shop where you customised furniture or sold things to villagers/bought their stuff instead of them just throwing in recycle bin.

Also like everyone used the in game chat /messaging even if you weren't visiting each other. felt a lot more like a social media chat, and you'd regularly arrange to trade over it or visit friends to play games/whatever. Which honestly I probably miss that community vibe most. - ACNH has this but it’s so clunky I don’t know anyone that uses it, it used to just be on the touchscreen.

As mayor you could set town ‘ordinances’ so your shops could open/close 3 hours earlier/later if it suits your lifestyle. Or you could have it so the flowers didn’t wilt or need watering, or have items sell for 20% more. ACNLs were better tho! The main shops standard time was until 11pm, so with night owl, until 2am!

You had 'perfect' fruit which was good to sell in other towns, which kept a rotation of visitors going. (and there was like 5 more exotic fruits as well.)

You could do a little 10 minute mini game making coffee for your villagers/random villagers you don't have and npcs for some coffee shop items. The cafe would have npcs visit and chat about their lives outside of work (CF also had npcs tell you about their lives and how they knew each other in little annual side quest stories.)

Raffelsia, gone are the days where being overrun with weeds left you with a new Vileplume decoration.

Snowman Variety. Used to have a whole snowfamily to build, each with it’s own tasks and set of furniture to collect.

After rainy days you could get 3 gyroids buried in town (out of 128 to collect and store in the cafe) and also visit Resetti in his 'reset centre'.

There was also a police station which largely functioned as the recycle bin, but they’d also give far more useful daily news than Isabelle if you visited.

Some of the main buildings in town could also have their exteriors redesigned in a few different styles. (largely matching existing bridge styles) Don’t like your green airport, make it red... or fairytale themed!

You could buy fortune cookies with random nintendo items daily - bought at the cost of 200 steps with the 3ds as a pedometer.

You had 4 empty rooms in museum to decorate however you wanted.

Nooklings upgraded 4 times eventually having an additional high-end seasonal store on the top floor, with very expensive luxury items.

Nooks store on the gamecube, also ran a monthly raffle of rare items. You got tickets for purchases through the month, and on the last day used the tickets to try to win prizes.

Friend-Travelling NPCs. Encouraging multiplayer interaction more, you and a friend may have one half of a mother and daughter duo to reunite by visiting each other. Or Blanca could show up with a face a friend had drawn for her.

Still got extra bells after getting the luxury items? Wild World also had the entirely not fictional town of boondox who would take charitable donations up to like 6 million bells? and send you some small gifts in return.

You could play panel de pon and "desert island escape" in your house if you owned a 3ds or wii u item. - island escape was actually pretty good and had like 15 hours of content!

Also just the fact there was like 4 times the furniture in the game just really helped. (largely sets related to things above, a lot of campervan items which had lots of food, and also gems to customise some things, and miniature fossil models made from your spare fossils.) Idk where the final totals are now, I imagine it’s comparable, but I do know the sets that returned are all like only half the sets. 6/11 items per returning set from what I can see! Also the real tragedy is the loss of the chess set, number lamps and the 4 high end series (cards, princess, Gracie and expensive sets)

And let's not forget the most requested thing to return from the gamecube - footballs that you could freely kick around town.

And the most requested feature from the DS - Drawing your own constellations in the sky.

And the completly never requested thing that I just personally miss, Different shapes in the grass. Squares came back but not available on main island

Honourably mentions here: In the spin-off Happy Home Designer, we also had ceiling items, and door and window decorations, which seem a very weird omission in NH. We have different and better windows now BUT you have no choice in using them, it is entirely dependant on the wallpaper used. We also have door flooring designs, but no door handings/doors like HHD had. So partial points here?

Things like different land types (there was a desert-ish area) and like the hospital and things you could design in HHD, I’m not surprised we don’t have, but I also wouldn’t have been surprised if at least some of these HHD things returned. - personally after the NH direct saying about your first 2 villagers settling into island life with you, I thought we’d get the chance to upgrade villager houses like HHD. Definitely had aspects of this return, but there’s a lot more untapped potential in these that would have been great to see in a proper sequal.

And slightly contentious, but the mobile game Pocket Camp has some features which really should come to ACNH. Like wigs, a billion more flower types. loads of furniture, and I would love monthly events like gyroidite hunting, weird migrational fish tourneys, and gardening bug events to be a thing to give that feel of there always being something going on. Though maybe only have these every other week, if they’re going to be week long!

sorry in advance for how long this post is but i am going to talk about animal crossing villagers for an hour because i am bored

fuchsia was one of my bffs in acnl and i still love her. i do not like hair on furries usually but fuchsia is GAY and has GARISHLY BRIGHT COLORS so i am in love with her. she has... blue tummy also which is extremely cute. she was one of my first 2 villagers on my island and she is Still There

i REALLY like this personality type but im not a fan of most of the designs that come with it... cherry, agnes, and reneigh are the exceptions IMO. katt i like less because i think she’s cute and more because of the gay vibes. 

i dont like.. most of the smug villagers, or really the dialogue options that come with them in this game. marshall lives in my acnl town (this is a pattern that will pop up with my preferences across this whole list lmfao) and i think he’s cute. i was caught off guard by how popular a villager he is though lmfao

raymond is cute and i like “office worker cat” because it is silly

everyone else is mediocre IMO

hrhrhghhgh i LOVE the lazy villagers. mostly, honestly, because of how they acted in acnl. stitches and pudge both live in my acnl town and they are EXTREMELY cute and talk about food and napping all the time and are Very friendly. i could give or take all the talk about bugs in the new one, BUT i think their dialogue options generally give off the vibe of “silly little animal that is being translated into humanspeak” and i really like that

i love the absurd memes that Bob is in and i want him on my island. i currently have stitches (acnl nostalgia and cute design, bones (looks good in every outfit and is Just Baby), papi (same as bones), hornsby (one of my early villagers that i will probs Eventually get rid of but im attached to him so maybe not, he’s also Baby), and Moe (originally had him in the F tier but then he showed up at my campsite and now i love him and his little buck teeth). i used to have zucker but he made me hungry every time i interacted with him so i booted him.

yes half of my villagers are lazy. yes i love living like this. i am constantly bombarded by dumb little animals who want to tell me their houses are full of bugs and then sprint off in a different direction to smell a flower

i do not like the jocks, which perhaps makes sense considering how much i stan the lazies. kid cat is cute and i have his amibo card by chance, so i am not prioritizing finding these guys. i think antonio is also cute and has good colors and patterns, but is kind of boring looking. everyone else i could NOT care less about. i got the emoji sheep in my campsite once and didnt even bother talking to him.

flora is my BEST friend in acnl and YES im saying that without a shred of irony. her house is right next to mine and she constantly jokes about moving in with me. one of my rooms is decorated for her. she’s! my! friend!!!!!!!!! she’s nice to me and i love her. 

i have not yet gotten my grubby little paws on her in this game but i will not rest until she is on my island. i love her little house interior that is modeled after wild flamingos vs the pink explosion that was her house in acnh. I Want Her. Give Her To Me.

ruby and rosie are also good but they are leagues below flora. ruby i like because of that one edgy comic that starred her back in the day (u know, the one with like, Experiments Gone Wrong that was all animal crossing characters). rosie i like cuz she was my favorite in my gamecube world.

i just kicked out twiggy, whom i will MISS because she made an adorable stupid face with her beak when she was crafting. she was really cute but i wanted to get stitches. sorry twiggy u were nice to me u_u

i currently have ketchup who is also cute but i would boot her in an instant for basically anyone else on her row and above. i just saw piper on an island when i was finding stitches and she was really cute so she got bumped up from the meh tier even though i passed her up. everyone else is fine

normal personality is Also rife with good designs.... i want kitties on my island. 

i have gladys and coco right now, both of whom arrived pretty early on. unfortunately the dialogue for normals in this game is so unbelievably bland that i do not feel any sort of connection with either of them, despite liking their designs a lot. gladys is in my acnl town and shares the “top fav” spot with flora in that game, but here she is Just Boring. so i would probably let her leave if i could find.. a kitty cat. and then coco i just like cuz i want to be edgy. look at her spooky little O_O face next to all the cutesy villagers lmfao. she’s good

snooty personality is not one of my faves, but the designs here ARE pretty good. i like pink wolf. i currently have 0 of these guys on my island just by happenstance. had portia at one point but i dont think she’s that great so she left. 

mathilda DID show up in my campsite recently, but i decided against including her bcuz my memories of how she acted in the gamecube version were SO disjointed with her current personality. she was so mean in gamecube and i wanted even a shadow of that -- but instead she was..... polite. it was weird. maybe if she shows up again i’d change my mind, but the character design not matching up with the personality bothers me enough that i probs wouldnt

i like the cranky dialogue in this game. i had lobo on the gamecube and i was obsessed with him because i was a wolf girl at that age, so i would be delighted to slap him onto my island, BUT.. i have fang currently and he’s a good boy. very distinguished, has a lovely classy house, and i like his design. butch is also cute. 

now here is this monstrosity. the past games are just gamecube and new leaf. each row (aside from the last 2) are arranged in most to least liked also. the “passed up on” and “let move out” lists are incomplete cuz i forget things immediately in this game

When I saw the keychains for Netherlands preorders I was all excited to see Pelly and Porter confirmed! But then I noticed they’re all in New Leaf attire, so maybe not haha. I’m hopeful we’ll have the post office return somewhere!

Referring to here. A good catch, I hadn’t even noticed! Unfortunately, you’re probably right that it doesn’t actually mean anything. It’s like the Switch flip cover you could order from Japan that has Rover, and a case (? Can’t remember exactly) that has Reese and Cyrus. They were there, on a Switch product, but as ACNL versions and clearly not new renders/designs. Mixed signals much.

On the plus side, the pelicans have been in every single AC game... I can’t imagine one without the postal service!

I guess I was on Main Street when I closed my 3DS and quit playing for the night, and forgot to save and quit. So in the morning, instead of seeing the Town Hall clock, I saw the Post Office clock instead. It was a bit surprising, honestly! I thought it would always be the Town Hall clock. Especially since that’s where Isabelle’s little intercom is, you know?

Do you suppose she can also speak through the Post Office somehow???
