because it was a dreamer
and it was the heart of a dreamer that had ceased beating inside that monstrous chest
Five times reading this book and the scene with the Suriel has made me cry every time. The same deep-seated ache in my heart gets triggered every time.

Ok I admit haven't read the crescent city series. I stopped reading sjm after acofs because I couldn't stand to read more until I knew whether elucien and/or gwynriel happened. But I do look at the posts so I got a little bit of spoilers, which I don't really mind having.
Now today I kind of started a pinterest board titled "things elriels will probably regret saying" and I noticed that some of them are referencing a part of hosaf (?) where it's said that the cauldron had been corrupted.
Now... They didn't mention when the cauldron was corrupted, but apparently it's enough for elriels to go "The Cauldron is corrupted and maybe it's not making perfect 'bonding' choices and there IS something weird about the Elucien bond"...
Now... I don't know how much of this theory or this cauldron claim i should accept...
But isn't it oh so convenient that elain and lucien's bond could have been a mistake of the ✨corrupted✨ cauldron but nessa, who was thrown into the cauldron after elain and when the cauldron was supposedly already corrupted, and cassian's is genuine and true instead?

ELAIN THEORY - ACOTAR SPOILERS
Everyone has these expectations of Elain that she is all soft and flowers and has little backbone. However, we haven’t seen her point of view, her through the eyes of others and I believe she has a lot more to give than what is shown.
The moments she has her will, like when she first met the mortal queens in ACOMAF and said ‘they should burn in hell’. (Pg 389) Also seen where she defends Nesta in ACOWAR in the last battle, where she stabs the King of Hybern.
These incidences cannot be coincidence and she is not as soft as she makes out, more of an edge to her.
She currently clings to those of shadow and has been in shadow her entire life as the middle child, looked over and not much of her relationship with her mother is stated in the books accept that she was prized for her beauty. Her role between the sisters is always soemthing to be protected, Feyre is the provider and Nesta her constant protector.
In the night court she is surrounded by people of shadow and whilst they are lovely and good it is not the type of people Elain needs.
What this means for her love interests…
The obvious choices so far are Lucien and Azriel.
The chances of Elian getting with Azriel endgame are pretty low for a few reasons, but this doesn’t mean they won’t have a special relationship or try it out and it doesn’t work:
- If is stated in ACOFS that Elain does not look good in night court black, it doesn’t suit her and she almost doesn’t belong there.
- Her getting with Azriel, the three brothers getting with the three sisters is a bit generic and I don’t think SJM will go down that road. Azriel think she is entitled to her and I don’t think this would work.
- Azriel’s shadows disappear in her presence, this is not a bad thing as it shows his comfort around her, but means the whole of him isn’t necessarily accepted, in the way it could be with Gwyn when the shadows sing in her presence, referring to him wholly as the ShadowSinger
- Elain has a mate and whether the bond can be ignored for so long remains to be seen and she hasn’t outright rejected it.
Onto Lucien…
- Lucien is Spring court emissary and Elain is symbolised by flowers
- Lucien is the heir to the Day Court by being Helion’s son, meaning he has light and healing magic that is better suited to Elain.
- Both bave been taken away from their first loves (Grayson and Jesminda)
BUT I LOWKEY DON’T WANT THEM TO BE TOGETHER
- Lucien is still fire and autumn and his relationship with Vassa seems to be a common thing. They are both fire and he seems to come alive more in her presence than Elain .
- Also, the fact that every other mated pair in the SJM universe gets together, I would like to see the rule defined.
WEIRD THEORY
I want Tamlin to have a redemption arc or more context to his actions - similar to what we are getting with Eris in ACOFS. It will not excuse things but give more context and the chance for him to heal himself.
Therefore, maybe Elain could have something with Tamlin to help him do that as she is so light and soft and he can be the protector he needs to be for her. Learn from his past mistakes with Feyre and soemone to accept for who he is.
Also, Elain is symbolised as flowers and Tamlin is High-lord of the Spring court. Finally start to repair his relationships with people and other courts.

gwyn appreciation (spoilers)
i feel like when we (gwyn stans) talk about her, it usually involves azriel and talking about why its gwynriel forever. but we hardly ever just talk about gwyn without involving azriel.
here’s a list of moments that made me fall in love with gwyn.
was the first priestess who took the courage to train with nesta and cassian.
brought back the valkyries and helping other females find their true selves.
was the first one to cut the ribbon and become a true valkyrie
sacrificed herself to save the children when hybern raided her temple.
was not hurt or mad at nesta’s strong tone when they first met
accepted nesta and her flaws and saw more to who nesta actually was
was afraid of leaving the library but faced those fears for her friends
was sexually assaulted by hybern’s men and did not let her trauma define her.
refused to leave nesta to die during the blood rite
successfully was able to find nesta and emerie during the blood rite by herself
This is why i will always love Gwyn whether she ends up with azriel or not, because she is one hell of a woman and has a bright future ahead of herself.

Whatever you do, dont think about Azriel loosing the snowball fight after 199 years of winning because of how distracted and devastated he was over Elain.
“Azriel won. His one-hundred-ninety-ninth victory, apparently.” (ACOFAS)
“He offered her a grim smile. "I lost the snowball fight today.” (Bonus POV)

I quite honestly cant grasp how people are confident elriel is just a set up for azriels character development and gwyn is endgame when
- elain is almost definitely having the next book based off the two bonus chapters. so is azriel. and elriel being set up like this regardless if they're endgame or not solidifies their books are together considering Rhysand set up a whole plot on his own with them. SJM said before each book is about one couple getting together, she couldve not potentially meant to mean only one per book but as far as that goes, there's no room left for Gwyn/lucien in elriels story to have their own journeys and endgames. she's unlikely with what we know to be writing a book about BOTH couples getting together. not to mention it's just extremely unlikely elain is going to be used just as a plot point for azriel. We know she has her own story coming and I don't know why she'd be a big part of azriels book but not have a POV.
- rhysand set up a forbidden love trope and their kiss was interrupted/azriel had to force himself to say it was a mistake/elriel are in a bad spot right now, why would sjm put all that together if she wasn't setting up a slow burn journey. if she was setting up gwyn and elain not being what's best for azriel she wouldn't have made their relationship so complicated
- why would gwyn and azriel end up together when he regifted his present to elain to gwyn just because he was told to stay away from elain lmao that never in any storytelling suggests great things for the relationship
- why would sjm put so much long term thought into elriel to just let it go in 2 seconds over a character we JUST met and is unlikely to ever be a main character. they've been set up since acomaf and acowar and she went through all the effort with the longing breadcrumbs in acofas/acosf
- gwyn as a character doesn't really add up to main character material, she already went through her journey in nestas book and while she still has more to go through (as nesta does and everyone does) it would just be odd to give her a whole book when she's not an integral part of these books
- sjm has been setting up the mate bond being rejected for elucien for awhile, just as she's been setting up elriel for awhile. elriel came true (which btw, the people who are so confident elriel is dust were the same ones who were so confident elriel were like siblings so lmao why are we trusting their bad takes?) so the mate bond rejection is likely to also come true. The ONLY way gwynriel would be endgame is if she did something so corny and made them mates, so you really think almost every main character in these books are conveniently going to end up happy with their mate when 1. mates were supposed to be rare and 2. the emphasis the cauldron can get it wrong, it would be so dry and overdone to go through TWO more mate bond journeys would be so ridiculous. What we haven't seen now is the impact and consequence of a mate bond being rejected
- gwynriel doesn't have any obstacles against them and would be so easy to get together. You can maybe say azriels trauma/obsession with elain are their obstacles but that is soooo weak for a whole 700 paged book. SJM said her couples need something in their way (those aren't her exact words I can't remember what she said exactly but something like that). Elriel is the relationship that has the forbidden love component and if they got together a whole war could be started. even elucien doesn't have much against them except elains unwillingness to give it a try. I don't know how you would think a gwynriel book would at all be interesting for anyone to read about
- basing your elriel takes off this one part is so ridiculous, claiming azriel is only obsessed and sexually attracted to elain is an already debunked point when we have 3.5 other books to go off of with him risking his life to save her, giving her truth-teller, obviously always caring about her (solstice dinner, etc) yall are just intentionally obtuse with this one

Elriel
Acotar Tumblr is giving me  PTSD from 2015/2016 when I was in the trenches fighting on the frontlines for Feysand endgame and Ya’ll were up Feylins ass calling Rhys every name under the sun.... and now with Elriel.... worms for brains some of you.
SJM confirm Elriel so I can stop losing brain cells reading ya’ll think pieces and girlboss thesis on how they’re SiBLiNgS.... AzRiEL iS OoC....GwYn Is MoRe SuITeD....ElAiN Is BoRiNg ?????
SJM is not giving the ginger’s any rights and ya’ll just need to accept that or just start putting on clown makeup on right now that works too

ACOTAR 5
~ ACOFS Spoilers ~
During one of her lives, Sarah said that she would never write a “and they went their separate ways” kind of ending/book. She has mentioned time and time again that each standalone will deal with one couple (getting their happily ever after) and an overarching plot (which we now know to be Koschei/Beron/the queens).
There is absolutely no way that she will write about two different couples in one book. It will either be Elriel or Gwynriel, not both with one being endgame over the other. Would you even want to read that kind of book? Where Azriel spends half the book loving/fantasizing about/being intimate with one woman before switching to the other and doing everything all over again?
Because I know I wouldn’t. It sounds like something a man would write.
Let’s all hope - Elriel and Gwynriel shippers - that SJM will be upfront with us about who the protagonists of the next book will be, instead of stringing us along for a couple more months. We all know that she included both, Elain and Gwyn, in that POV to get us talking and going crazy over the possibilities.

When it’s mentioned that Feyre might die in her pregnancy I got so frustrated that Rhys didn’t tell her for so many reasons. But the one that stood out to me was that he took away her choice. The moment it was mentioned that she might die I immediately was prepared for a fae abortion. That was the only option to save feyre from dying during childbirth, but it wasn’t mentioned. The different winged species were mentioned and helion but not the one that would have truly been a solution. I get that acowar was ya, but if this book was billed as adult then adult topics should have been broached. Not just sex shit but real life shit that people experience because if you can discuss rape and mental health within a book why can’t you also discuss the elephant in the room.
And I just Feyre should have had the choice. It should not have been taken away from her. Rhysand is so toxic for not telling her or letting her have a choice. Isn’t that what is supposed to make the night court better? That they can have choices and have dreams? But that’s only if it’s what he decides is acceptable. She likely would not have chosen to have an abortion because she saw the child at the Bone Carver and she cared deeply about the pregnancy, but Feyre is a survivor and a fighter I think that there would have been a real conflict between her and Rhysand and with herself as she thought through it. It’s such a disservice to her character to not even let her have that complex decision because it would be her two main components:her ability to survive and to protect her family against one another. She wouldn’t be able to easily choose but that’s the truth for any human. It’s not an easy choice in any sense but it should always, always be a choice a mother can decide.

Elain Archeron is not sweet or kind (spoilers)
i keep seeing ppl on tiktok, tumblr and instagram talk about how elain doesn't deserve all the hate she gets because she’s so kind and just gardens and radiates sunshine
PLEASE-- the way some of these elain stans go ranting on and on about how sweet and precious elain is makes me fucking gag. like please what does elain do that's actually kind?? because i keep hearing ppl say this, both IRL and the characters in the book, but there is literally no proof of it.
here let's list some reasons when elain was not so kind as her stans seem to say:
1. sat by while Nesta constantly abused feyre both emotionally and verbally and instead of apologizing to feyre on Nesta's behalf or something what does she do? she goes after Nesta repeatedly to console her as if Nesta was the one who was just abused
2. literally made no fucking effort to help feyre AT ALL with hunting or preparing food, or even trying to make some fucking money to lessen the burden on feyre. the book says it just never “occurred to elain that she could help”--if elain was a nice person, then she would have noticed feyre doing all the work and offered to help. also, that quote just goes to show elain is an idiot too, sorry not sorry.
3. do yall remember in acotar when feyre went back to her family after Tamlin sent her away, and after realizing she was made a wealthy woman, yall know the first thing she did? she took some of that money and gave it to those still suffering from her neighborhood. because feyre, now rich and fed and warm, remembered those individuals and did not forget them. while miss flowers was up in her mansion dancing and spending money -that she didn't earn- and forgot about all those less fortunate.
4. elain whenever she could, whenever she had spare money, would waste it on flowers. flowers. instead of vegetables. which could have helped her starving family. remind me again why elain is the sweet, kind one??
5. elain went through hell, she literally lost herself due to the cauldron, her human life being ripped away from her, and losing her fiance Grayson. and who was beside her during all that time? making sure she tried to eat, to sleep, to see if she would want to talk. who was the one constantly worrying about her and couldn't even sleep out of fear that elain would contemplate suicide? the woman who for god knows what reasons had made it her sole mission to protect this useless excuse of a woman? it was Nesta. and where was elain when Nesta was going through her own shit? oh that's right, she was buddying up to her other sister who has money, she was gardening, she was living a happy life that she got thanks to Nesta and feyre. and all along she was ignoring depressed, traumatized Nesta. I don't fucking care that Nesta was rude to elain and it hurt poor sweet elain, that woman sacrificed so much for elain just to be treated like dirt in the end? elain should have taken Nesta's rude comments and should have kept going back to help Nesta, out of everyone, elain should have understood Nesta's hurtful words and realize her sister was in pain.
here’s a list of some moments when elain was actually kind:
1. bought feyre paints.
2. baked feyre a birthday cake.
3. gave solstice gifts to Nuala, Cerridwen, and Azriel. but honestly, she wasn't the only one who gave gifts to ppl so this really doesn't count.
that's it.
in conclusion, elain isn't kind or sweet, she's actually a snake, the cauldron made a mistake, sjm should have written elain to actually be kind if she was going to constantly mention how sweet elain is, and the real sweet, kind, and generous sister is Feyre.

elriel ALREADY has the forbidden secret love that could start a war if they got together plot which would be a huge conflict. on top of that we know elain is likely going to go evil/dark and azriels journey is likely to be coming more into the light.
if you really pushed gwynriel, their book would be...maybe a healing journey, gwyn training, and mates? that would be a more bland repeat of the last book. and some singing. for people who call elriel boring and vanilla you really do push for the most boring concept.
