how to do well in classes you don’t like ᕙ(`▿´)ᕗ
We all have classes that we don’t like, and usually we don’t do the best in them. Here are some ways I combatted that to make sure I did well.
Read the syllabus or marking scheme: imo, this is the best way to get acquainted with what you have to do for the class overall. It's easier knowing how much you have to do to get a certain grade. Finding out the criteria for something makes it easier to handle those tasks especially for things you don’t like. Systemically handling such tasks makes sure that you don’t stress for that paper or project in the longer run.
Try to get interested or find something connected that you like to get more immersed in: I’ve said this before and I’ll say this again. Studying is boring but learning is fun. I had to take a required art class last year which really annoyed me, and the teacher wasn’t the best. But this was overruled over the fact that I really loved art and history. The world is full of interesting things; you can definitely find something you like in any subject you are learning, even math! This method serves as a motivator; for example, if you really like learning about black holes, studying for relativity in your physics class would help you understand more about them.
Always revise over what you are doing wrong: Another way to understand how to get the best grade in a class you don’t like is to look at how well you do on tests and grades. Most people don’t do well in these classes. You can look over what you have done wrong, and go back and see what the teacher is looking for in classes. Don’t overthink about how bad you did; instead, find what your teacher was looking for in your answer. This way, you know exactly how to answer next time. It’s another way to find out the criteria for how much effort you need to put in.
Ask for help: Another great way to do the best is ask help from someone you know is well-versed in a specific subject. If you really don’t understand what is going on in class, asking for help eases that stress. You’ll be surprised as to how well this method works.
Celebrate your successes: This is a great motivator. Finished that long paper? Take a break, watch a movie, have some fun. You’ve done a lot for something that has been causing you stress. You deserve it.
Consider dropping: If you really are feeling stressed, look for other options. Sometimes a class feeling like a burden has an immense impact on your grades. Think about how much this class is worth. Talk to your counselor. Are there other options? Other classes? Do you need to take this? It’s okay to drop something you don’t like if its really impacting your grades and your health.
I wish you guys all the best. It is really a big feat to do well in a class that you don’t like. Have fun and don’t take to much stress. Good luck!

you should be working on your thesis. it's winter break--this is the only mildly peaceful time you'll have to do this before the semester starts up again and you suddenly have 17 new commitments that you didn't know about. do yourself a favor--
open up that google doc and start typing

Quiet moments from Paris while I was waiting for my french diploma results. I ended up getting 72/100, which means I’ll be graduating next year! In September I’ll also be halfway through my degree, studying philosophy and statistics modules. I’m feeling very hopeful for the academic year ahead :’)

Days 23-29/100 of Productivity

It’s a 🌞H E A T W A V E🌞 in the city! Thanks Goddess, I’m still sick and injured and I can spend all day in the forest, on the beach or just in my home with fan and iced coffee. But I’m escaping city in any possible way and going to countryside this weekend to my friend’s summer house. Also it could be a great opportunity to spend time without phone and connection with civilisation 😂

I'm gonna sound so lame but I love shitty horror movies. People still put effort into them, and art doesn't need to be perfect. Give me a plot that doesn't make sense and generic or weird characters. I may not react in fear, but I'll still find joy in it.

tips for acing chem ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ
(disclaimer: this worked for me. It may not work for you, and that’s okay! Keep trying, you can do it!)
Continuous exposure to chemistry: One of the biggest things that helped me in chemistry was the continuous exposure I had beforehand. I had plenty of books that I read about chemistry, watched documentaries, had an interactive book about all the elements, e.t.c. Continuous exposure allows you to retain a lot more information beforehand, and it is different from studying. Studying is BORING, continuous exposure and learning IS NOT. Allow yourself to have fun while learning chem!
Watch videos about things you don’t understand and apply them yourself: The most challenging thing in chemistry was probably equations. You should probably watch videos to learn this. There are tons of videos out on YouTube, Khan Academy and more. Not only should you watch these videos but try to follow along and apply them into questions. If, like Khan Academy, there are ways you can do a little quiz or test yourself, be sure to do that! It helps a lot.
Ask for help from peers: This, 100%, is a great way to learn. If I was feeling sluggish or tired, I would ask for help from peers, and write down what they said. I would also take pictures of their notes and learn from that as well, later on. It helps a lot to learn from someone just like you, so you can understand better.
Active studying: I think this is a very common tip, but it is so important!! You may have a textbook or something to follow on in classes, so here’s what to do: read the textbook chapters and summarize them in your own way. It helps so much. Writing about each section or chapter allows you to take that information, and write it in a different way while still having the most important parts. DO NOT highlight or read. That is passive studying, and trust me, it does not help. Write down, summarize, do a mind map but do NOT highlight or read. It’s okay to do that for help but it really isn’t the best way to handle a concept and info-heavy class like chemistry.
Interactive, do-it-yourself studying: I heard a lot of classes just have a teacher who drones on and on and most students just have to write the stuff down, a test about every 2 weeks and move on. That is a terrible way to learn. If you are not doing well on tests or anything, this is probably why. This is a chance to use other resources for interactive learning, like videos. Something I used to do was watch experiments on YouTube, which helped me a LOT to learn about chemistry, chemical experiments and more. If you have online resources which help in interactive learning, go ahead and do that. I would not pay attention in my physics class because this is what the class was like, but I would go back home and write everything I remembered, and learn from the web.
Revision tips: I think a great way to learn is to start from a blank page. Use that blank page to start writing everything you know about a topic, formulas, diagrams, e.t.c. Why is this such an effective studying style? Because in a test, you have a blank page. You don't have mind maps, your pretty studying notes or anything else. This helps you in tests so much because then you are skilled in pouring all that information onto the blank test page. After you finish, go ahead and look back on your notes: What are you missing? What doesn’t make sense? Now you can focus on what you don’t know, are confused about, and start honing on those spots.
Learn from tests: As soon as you get your test back, let's say you get a C. Instead of staring in shock, LOOK at the test. What did the teacher mark? What notes did they write? You can write short notes on a sticky note, and problems that you didn’t understand. Then, go back to your notes and figure out why you got that question wrong. Is it because you didn’t focus on this topic much? Silly mistake? Go ahead and write the answer and try the question again on a separate piece of paper. After that, go back and strengthen those spots so you don’t make that mistake again.
If you have other problems, like not being able to study for chem long, mind being somewhere far away, chemistry is boring.. Those are not chemistry problems, those are probably study problems. There are many tips out there on the web made by awesome, amazing people that can help you better. If you are truly struggling, maybe it's best to stop and think about the course as a whole. Ask for help. And remember, these tips helped me, but they may not work for you. And that is absolutely okay. Your worth is not determined by your grades.

presented chapters 1 and 2 of the voter suppression book today, which was alright. last time i presented for this professor, he interjected quite a bit (to his credit, they were worthy interruptions, but i was very anxious). he still interjects like that, but now i can handle it better
today:
finish modernity paper to best of ability (incl. [but not limited to] introduction, conclusion, Taft write-up, religion, education)
THESIS WORK (set meeting with advisor, pray he can meet before winter break)
apology email to professor who i just asked to be on my thesis committee (i thought class had been canceled but it most definitely was not)
finish methods final project & reflection
flesh out paper for immigration history
in other news, my eight saints order arrived today! very very excited about the pretty little bottles that make skincare fun and not a chore.

༻`` 17 Jan 24 — Wednesday
100 days of productivity 17/100
how are we halfway through January already??
Tumblr media
I started making some notes, studied chemisty for an hour and tried blurting. I only covered 2 topics so far but it seems like an upgraded version of the way I studied last year for my gcses, which worked out really well seeing as I got a couple A*'s. I'm going to continue this tomorrow.
I was going to push myself to complete 2 hours of study but I've got work experience tomorrow (dentistry even tho u need bio for it and I don't take bio TvT) and I'd like to be well rested for it.
Plus for my study technique, in case anybody is interested and would like to try it, I combine active recall, blurting and teaching the topic.
I will read my notes out loud (about a sentence/small paragraph at a time), look away and repeat a couple times until I no longer have to look at my notes
I will read the next bit, recall it aloud, and often I'll then go over both the 1st bit of notes and the 2nd, 3rd etc. again, trying not to look at the notes
While recalling the information I will tell/teach it to my study buddy (can be a person, animal or inanimate object)
After each major topic I'll write down everything I remember (saying it aloud first then writing it down), go back to my notes and add anything I missed in red so I can focus on it more next time
Before starting a new topic I'll quickly recall aloud the information from the previous topic & etc.
My study/motivation playlist 🎶

Hi Izzy!
I'm new to both tumblr and codeblr/progblr and I was just wondering what other people I should follow here if I want to keep up with the tumblr programming community?
Tumblr media
Hiya!!
I have some you can follow! Some people I know have been inactive for a while so I'll just suggest the ones that are still posting a bit frequently so you can have them pop up on your feed! That is literally one of the reasons I joined Tumblr: to have coding blogs post so I can get inspiration from my feed! A bit like following the #studyblr tag!
@codingcorgi | @zoeythebee | @studentbyday | her sister @zzzzzestforlife | @lazar-codes | @sophia-codes | @hezacodes | @thedanicode~!
There's a bunch more but they haven't posted in a while which is sad BUT life happens so hopefully in the future they come back and post again!
Hope this helps 🖤
