Urgh. It's this fucking horse by Stubbs.

Because... just look at it. It SO HORSE. There's nothing else there. Motherfucker didn't even do a background, just ctrl+backspaced a greeny-brown. It's all horse. I'm not even a particular fan of horses as an animal, but I enjoy this stupid horse painting more than I have ever enjoyed looking at an actual horse.

Ok, so it's actually kind of underwhelming out of context. What you have to remember is that this is in the National Gallery in London and this painting is HUGE. It's like three metres tall and completely dominates the room. It's hard to convey the sheer volume of horse that confronts you when viewing this painting in person.

And the thing is, the structure of the National Gallery and the picture's positioning means that you get glimpses of the through doorways all through your visit, before finally reaching it and being confronted by this massive goddamn horse.

I kind of hate that this is my favourite piece of art. I mean, it's just a horse. But I realised that every time I went to the National Gallery I was really excited to go see the the horse in a way I wasn't to see any other artwork. Plus I usually go with Sasha, and he pointed out I always talked about going to see the horse in a way that I clearly thought was a joke but definitely wasn't.

So yeah, despite my best efforts my favourite art piece is this stupid enormous horse.

Have been wondering what Ed was getting while Stede was being walked into the jungle by Chauncey, because he had already gotten the dinghy and later arrived at the dock carrying a sack. Obviously supplies makes sense, but I just realised it was also their clothes/personal effects that Ed went back for, and it made me sad. 

He went back for his cravat, and his red handkerchief, and his leather jacket, and his knee brace, and all of Stede’s clothes that he knew would be missed terribly if they left them behind.
