omg absolutely. I still don’t know how House ended up with baby/toddler Thirteen, or how she got the nickname Thirteen in this au (I’ll figure that out later, lol) but here are some other hcs I’ve been thinking about:

I’m kind of imagining House with his adopted toddler daughter on his hip when he bails Wilson out of jail in New Orleans in 1991 and it’s making me laugh way too much

Wilson thinks Thirteen’s legal, actual name on her birth certificate is “Thirteen” for MONTHS after he meets her. House lets him believe it because he thinks it’s funny.

Thirteen solely calls Wilson “Wilson” because of House, and is shocked and betrayed when she finds out his “real name” is James/Jimmy. She is angry at Wilson for several days after this discovery.

Wilson thinks she’s cute (and thinks it’s hot that House is a single dad), but is super awkward around her at first. House loves seeing him flounder and so he eggs Thirteen on to “ask Wilson to play”, etc.

House brings baby/toddler Thirteen to work all the time. He says it’s because he doesn’t want to pay for outside childcare but Cuddy knows it’s because he’s attached to the kid and loves her a lot. She hangs out with him in his office, with Cuddy (“Miss Lisa” or “Aunt Lisa” maybe? Although no one knows how she started calling Cuddy that, because House only ever calls her Cuddy), with the nurses on their breaks (they adore her), or with the other kids her age in the daycare the hospital has for their employees.

Cuddy insists on calling her “Remy” so that Thirteen knows her “real name”, but no matter how much Cuddy tries, she still only responds to Thirteen

House bouncing diagnosis ideas off of bby/toddler Thirteen and eventually landing on the right one via an epiphany he had because of her.

Slytherin Skittles HCs

I actually call them Hogwarts' Pantheon but the Skittles are a more recognizable name lol

-Pandora and Evan are twins (the classic)

-Pandora is a Hufflepuff which does not bode well for her family so Evan gets easily angered/protective if anyone even insinuates something derogatory about her being a Hufflepuff

-Evan and Regulus were friends first, meeting at a weird pureblood party and being attached at the hip since, during said party, Pandora took a liking to Bellatrix

-Someone has to explicitly tell Regulus he's coming to a hangout or else he won't show up, usually it's Barty

-Pandora and Evan are very precise about being on time

-Barty likes to spin them when they hug, and Regulus acts like he hates it (he doesn't)

-Privacy does not exist at all between them, there have been so many times when Pandora would waltz in while Barty and Evan are just making out or when Dorcas is changing, or when Regulus is trying to put on his trans tape (she usually steps in to help if needed)

On that topic:

Regulus is trans, use he/him, and gay/demi

Pandora is genderfluid, uses any pronouns, and bisexual

Dorcas uses she/they and lesbian/ace

Barty uses he/they/it and pan/cupioromantic

Evan uses he/him and aro/ace

Yes Evan and Barty are dating, ppl on arospec can still date 👌

-Evan is the tallest and Pandora is the shortest

-Dorcas has the best and most versatile singing, whatever you want she got it

-Evan is the one that has the most oversized clothes so everyone would casually snag a shirt or jumper here and there, it got to the point where people were questioning if his relationship with Barty was actually exclusive (that is if they were even dating or just fwb, they actually were but wheres the fun in that??), and Barty fueled the rumors by excessively flirting with everyone, Dorcas even played into it for shits and giggles. James and Lily held back on asking Regulus and Pandora out because of it, which Evan found hilarious

-For the twins' birthday, Barty, Dorcas, and Regulus made two flower crowns (through much trial and error) with only roses, Scottish green roses for Pandora and simple white roses for Evan

-Every time the Blacks and Rosiers are at the same pureblood event, Regulus makes a beeline for Evan

-Evan had a bit of a hard time accepting Regulus' relationship with James because he felt as if James wouldn't hesitate to leave Regulus over anything at any given time. it was only after hanging out with the Marauders for some time that he finally understood that wasn't the case

-Barty and Dorcas got their first tattoo together while drunk off their ass

-Dorcas likes to shorten their names for fun, Regulus is Reg, Pandora is Pan, Evan is Ev, and Barty is just Bart but he later made her change it so now it's BB, which Regulus doesn't think is much better

-Pandora would give her many rings to Dorcas and Regulus because steers them away from skin-picking

-Dance parties but it’s just them

-Sneaking out during the night and hanging out on rooftops and racing on brooms and intense gossip sessions

-Regulus knows about people’s drama before meeting them because Dorcas and Barty always forces everyone (Reg, Pan, and Ev) to listen to the shit about everyone

-Dorcas has the cutest outfits, and is definitely the best dressed in the group

-They are all pretty touchy with each other, kisses on the cheek, hugs that go on forever, handholding etc, especially Barty, though everyone understands not to do headpats on Reg or ruffle his hair (that’s reserved for Sirius)

-Pandora can get really aggressive when angry and often says things she doesn’t mean, she later apologizes though and they all learn to not take what she says when angry to heart

-Dorcas’ preferred method of anger is the silent treatment, idk it just fits

-Regulus prefers extreme temperatures, takes burning hot showers, drinks water that’s 80% ice, drinks tea with water straight from the kettle, he hates anything warm, so with that, he also hates cake because of it. To fix this, they all tried making ice cream cake, which came out as a disaster so when he found them he helped clean up the mess and Dorcas snuck off to buy one

-They never use magic when cleaning, Dorcas thinks it’s a good hangout time and thus makes them put their wands away and they play music and dance when cleaning

-Barty comes up with insane muggle theories and Dorcas fuels then knowing full well they are complete bs

-Dorcas loves drawing or painting Pandora, there is just something so mystical about her that makes the artwork so much more beautiful

-Barty and Regulus would bicker or argue in French and Italian respectively, Dorcas would throw in Spanish for shits and giggles

-They get weirdly sentimental during the night and they all agree to never speak about it the next morning

-Barty developed a habit of curling up on Reg’s lap when he’s crying or just upset in general and Evan would just run his fingers through his hair, Dorcas would just hold hand his hand, and Pan would comfort him verbally or talk about something to take his mind off it

-Dorcas gets the most expensive gifts from them

-Dorcas is very passionate about jewelry and will go on hour long talks about them, Evan listens very intently and takes mental notes

-Pandora actually has a box, a very decorative box she painted herself filled with photos, handmade jewelry, gifts, artwork, and letters all collected through the years

-Evan has a tendency of staring intensely at people talking to Pandora in an overly friendly or rude way (she knows he’s doing it)

-Since a portion of Regulus' hair is naturally blond (a hc of mine lol) Barty insisted that he dye it green for quidditch

-Barty has the hardest punch only because they wear rings but Dorcas can and will hit harder with her bare fist

-Regulus and Evan aren't ones for physical altercations, they prefer verbal attacks that are personal, these guys will burn down your family tree with their words alone and without any hesitation

-Pandora is very noticeable with her very colorful wardrobe, so at a party, Evan and Regulus always keep an eye out for bright splashes of pastels dresses within hoards of dark fabrics

-Pandora wears lots of jewelry and her presence is often noticed by the small sounds of bracelets clinking together

-They own a black snake that Dorcas just one day picked up and never let go, her name is Victoria, and she just hangs around

-Regulus does embroidery and has embroidered a personal handkerchief for everyone with their initials, Barty doesn't use his but instead keeps it as an accessory that is a prop for his dramatics

-Barty keeps a photobook filled with photos that he takes on a muggle camera, some of the photos he pins onto the curtain of his bed

-In fact, Barty keeps his bed oddly decorated, photos pinned into the curtains, strings of beads hanging on the top corners of the beds, stickers, and stuffed animals that Pandora and Regulus make, his bed is never clean

i love this sm. i'm going to be so honest i am NOT creative with my hcs. i love seeing and agreeing with weird hcs but my own ideas aren't very creative but i can try!!

first and foremost i love weird hcs. i want weird regulus. loopsie posted about it today as well but give me regulus who is not cool and not perfect and also VERY unsettling. him with a wide bug eyed stare and too much eye contact. i want him to be socially awkward and too honest and worrying to people. he needs to be so weird. and james wants to study him. he is so perplexed by him and even when regulus says the downright weirdest shit james has heart eyes. regulus could be talking about venomous frogs and how he wants to collect bugs and how he's going to hunt for his bugs and he could be imitating a mating call of a random bird and james is. so in love. hello lovely weird little brained regulus my darling you are so loved by james(and me).

i am also into UNHINGED. weird weird awful crazy murder husbands jegulus(cw: murder ahead) i read a fic with doctor!james who has a very low mortality rate, and every so often he would pick someone up as a hookup and then bring them back to his bunker where he would perform surgery and study the body, and he took detailed notes on them, and he advanced the medical field knowledge greatly with his studies. unethical yes, but it did benefit the greater community. he just loved picking apart humans and figuring out how they worked, and it was very cool. even with his serial killing his overall mortality rate as a doctor AND killer was lower than average. he saved tons of people too. that james is VERY fascinating. regulus eventually helped him, once he realized what was going on.

2023 Character Wrapped

@geralts-yenn and @raccoon-eyed-rebel tagged me to talk about my favorite characters. And well, this is just too good not to pass up. So, join me, won't you?

Let's rank my favorite characters! (Based on # of times I have written them).

Under the cut to keep my ramblings off your dashboard...but you just know there are bunch of Henry Cavill-shaped bitches under this cut.

But, in what order??

Alright, let's get this party started with...

Walter Marshall - Night Hunter

I feel like this is absolutely no surprise that I've written the most for this grumpy bear. But, I just call him Daddy. Whether he be touch-starved, an enemy turned lover, falling in love like a love-sick puppy, taking a little "me time" for himself, or being the goodest boy as werewolf Wolfie. Even wrote a headcanon about his hobbies.

2. Clark Kent - Man of Steel, BvS, Justice League

I have loved the character of Clark Kent since I was a little thing, I'm obsessed with curly-haired nerds. Clark also is the only character I have written "fluff" for, be it praising what you think are flaws or surprising you for your birthday. I have written him as a Sub and as a Dom (in my only work that has surpassed 1k notes).

3. August Walker - Mission: Impossible - Fallout

I've never written August as the good guy, and there is a reason for that. In my head, he's the life-ruiner. He can be sweet (to you), but odds are he just killed a guy because the guy looked at you for longer than a second. I've written August as a pissed-off Dom who was sick of being interrupted, a very bad Daddy, and an Uncle who takes advantage of his nephew's girlfriend here(original) and here(director's cut).

4. Captain Syverson - Sand Castle

Oh, Syverson. My baby don't even got a dayum first name and he's popular. I've written him confronting a lover during a post-apocalyptic pregnancy realization, and as a married father-to be getting his beard trimmed and talking to his unborn daughter. He's also featured in my Werewolf!Walter Marshall story, and that's all I'll say about that. (Also, I've been referring to him as James Syverson in every iteration of the character that I have written for - I think.)

5. Mike - Hellraiser: Hellworld

My sweet baby boy. He is a guilty pleasure. I gave him a full series where he finds love and has quite the cast of characters as his family. But, technically, I only wrote the series because of what happened here and here, when his naughty Uncle slept with his girlfriend.

6. Napoleon Solo - The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

He's just so fucking sexy. I love him, your honor. He's been a suave and sexy older man wooing a young student over a good meal, and also started a series where he was falling hard for a woman in his apartment building (still in the early stages and I promise @deandoesthingstome that I will get back to this series).

7. Sherlock Holmes - Enola Holmes series

I have also loved Sherlock Holmes since I was a little kid. I thought he was the coolest person ever, but he's a curly-haired nerd so of course I loved him. I love when Sherlock is in love, whether he is ignoring his bratty wife until he takes matters into his own hands, or if he is having trouble coming to terms with new love.

8. Charles Brandon - The Tudors

This little shit. This redeeemable, sexy, fucking slut. I love him. I've only written him once, and it was a request! But, I enjoyed it. I loved writing him getting teased sexually and then taking control of the situation. So hot.

9. Humphrey - Stardust

Ok, not actually a fan of Humphrey, I've just written him. And that was all thanks to @sillyrabbit81's milestone celebration at the beginning of this year. This fic is kind of a weird egg, just, go with me though. The plot is: you and Humphrey are step-siblings who end up getting a little...involved. I'm not sorry for the title of this fic.

And to our last entry, the only non-HC character...

10. Lloyd Hansen - The Gray Man

What can I say? If I had the means, and I guess I really do but whatever, I would rank this man at #2 above Clark Kent. Because Lloyd-excuse me...Sir is one of my all-time favorites. I've included him inside larger stories as a bit player, see Bright Like the Moon (where he plays a bad man later in the series). But, I also wanted him to have his own show where he was the star, so I had him stalk and kidnap a girl and tie her up in the basement and call her Sunshine. I also wrote a little headcanon about his family, quirks, hobbies and his sleeping habits.

TL;DR: Walter Marshall is Daddy, Lloyd Hansen is Sir. And I need to finish one series before starting another. Maybe I will work on that. *snort*

I have written for a lot of characters, and I'm not gonna stop. I really wanna write so much more and my WIP folder is literally overflowing with things. I just started a new fic like the day I posted the most recent chapter of THiCC. What am I doing??

9) ok also thinking about this now I feel like if Startail had happened then the betrayal would have happened? Cause like Peter's flaw was that he kept feeling left alone even tho he actually wasn't as much as his brain led him to believe. He felt left alone with James being Sirius's other half and Remus being Sirius's love of his life right? So now it's like- I don't see a point in the betrayal

10) oooooh wait Dark Pete mhmm mhmm. He is jealous of James because as long as James was there Sirius could never be fully his so he does what he has to for love. In his eyes, he did the right thing.

11) But he miscalculated and ended up losing everything. (And that's why he helps Harry in TDH2)

Ok he is the last one for the night because I was just like "oh I'll jot down an idea or two" and then I look up and it's suddenly 20 minutes later.

Adult Snape -

His character is like… DEFINED by not being in therapy. He (or at least part of him) is constantly living in the past and in each traumatic moment, and he does. not. move on. He survives. He does not heal. He is not interested in healing.

Could you imagine Dumbledore trying to force him to go to therapy as a Hogwarts employee? LMAO. Snape would be like “You first, bitch.”

Though I would love for Dumbledore to force him on a sabbatical where he did an intensive residential trauma treatment program for six months then six months to do potions research somewhere with no children and no one to ask him questions, and it would be the reward for completing the program. (That and a year off from teaching first through fifth years.) (I hc he actually likes teaching 6th and 7th years since he can be selective about them.)

(I’ve never worked in non-substance use inpatient so I can’t say much about it and it would absolutely be a referral. Dumbledore’s like “so I have this guy I want in therapy…” and I’m like “... have you considered residential for him?”)

Adult Snape and I would not work well together. It would not be worth trying. (Though it’s easy to think of him as an old man but he was in his early 30s in the books lol.)

Also if he’s being forced into therapy as an adult, he would absolutely remain silent the entire time as a test of wills with the therapist.

Ok but younger Snape??

He only goes to therapy for Lily. Let’s imagine pre-SWM, Lily is like “I love you but I no longer like you. Go to therapy. Work on yourself. Then maybe we can be friends again.”

Definitely a lot of praise for his intelligence, but also slowly naming other values too. It would totally be a situation where I’m like “It’s ok if you disagree, but I think you have inherent worth, just as you are, separate from your intelligence. You don’t have to believe me, but I believe it. I’ll hold onto that belief until you’re ready to hold it too.” and he’d roll his eyes. Lol.

Unconditional positive regard again as the key therapeutic factor!!

Being really careful to avoid any impulse to “fix” him and just bear witness and build trust and slowly co-create space where he can be honest about his feelings and hurt.

As a teenager, I can’t imagine he ever mentions his family at all. I think it’s purely about his life at Hogwarts - he keeps those worlds so separate. (One of those situations where the therapist is immediately like “oh your family is FUCKED” but waits for the client to give an opening.)

James -

Also, yes, you’re absolutely right James would be an easier client to work with in many ways. Basically, he has a secure attachment style from parents who were able to meet a decent chunk of his emotional needs as a child, and so he is able to trust people more easily, which means therapeutic work can go deeper faster since the trust building stage is much shorter.

I think the hard part for him in therapy would be motivation – why is he seeking therapy? He’s forced to by the school? He’d be absolutely in denial that he did anything wrong.

I have a colleague at my old job who worked with students who were found responsible by the Title IX Officer for violating sexual harassment/violence rules (but not expelled), and I think I’d want James to go through that pretty structured program. I think I’d be too easy on him when the necessary step would really be around taking responsibility for his own actions (within a very complicated situation in which he’s not entirely in the wrong!)

I also think he’d work better with a male therapist but maybe that’s just my bias. I’d want him to work with someone who feels more comfortable pushing him, and that’s just not my vibe.

Snape post SWM??

He ABSOLUTELY shuts down. Talk to this bloody shrink about what happened?? Absolutely not.

His main (only authentic?) relationship was just cut away (his fault, but still, it would be intensely difficult.)

I headcanon that he really dives into dark magic during this time – not so much the Death Eaters but only Death Eaters as they are vehicles for the opportunity to explore the Dark Arts, an area where he can feel in control and powerful and so self-soothe.

I would try to engage with him through magical theory and the Dark Arts and whatever his main interest in the present was (no judgment, confidentiality made clear), and see if we could use the magic he was creating and experimenting with as a vehicle for considering himself and his own internal experiences and feelings and needs.

He’d be the type of client where I end up binging research after I see them to be able to keep up with them and try to be able to use it as an in for therapeutic work.

I do think he really wants an audience for his experimentation, and so he might eventually start to enjoy talking about what he works on and we would SLOWLY build that therapeutic rapport.

It might work, it might not, but I’d hold fast to my optimism even when it was hard. (And he would make it very hard.)

(And canonically, I think there just wouldn't be enough time to build that rapport. He'd join the Death Eaters and stop going to therapy before we get the opportunity to do some real work.)

•Everett grew up as an army brat, his father a retired naval aviator. His step mom a lawyer and she certainly was more like a mom to him than his actual one.

•His dad’s originally from Minnesota his step mom from San Diego. They met there while he was stationed there, they fell in love, got married, had two kids. Everett absolutely adores his younger brother and sister.

•They’re a very hug oriented family.

•Everett smokes cigarettes because he wants to be a indie tumblr girl, okay?

•god forbid his parents ever find out…

•Beginning of junior year he started dating this girl named Ava. But it wasn’t a healthy relationship at all, she was manipulative, mean, isolated him, sometimes she would hit him.

•When she would hang out with the group she’d go as far as making fun of Johns stimming.

•Gale had a bit of a falling out with Everett because of her.

•God, he felt so alone and now none of his friends wanted to talk to him.

•Curt removed him from the friend group chat.

•When Dougie didn’t say anything everyone knew this was serious.

•Everett spent his summer between junior year and senior year pretty much alone. Besides when he was with Ava but you know that wasn’t positive attention.

• Everett: wanna hang later?

•Things came to a halting stop one specific day at the end of July.

•The beginning of summer football camp in August was a shit show to say the least.

•Everyone was mad at Everett and they were all off their game.

•Chick and Jack pulled Everett into their office after the end of the first week. “Look, I don’t know what’s going on, but you should talk with Buck and get this is all sorted out.”

•Everett showed up at Gales house that night asking to talk. Upon seeing, no Ava Gale let him in.

•Curt’s sitting on the couch with Ken tucked into his arm and Meatball in his lap but he’s shooting daggers at him. “What the fuck is he doing here, Buck?”

•Gale lets Everett explain and defend himself. Johns smashed in between Gale and Curt playing with Gales fidget ring. He’s silent and he doesn’t think he can bring himself to make eye contact or talk.

•Everett kinda breaks down crying at the end and John just comes over and rubs his back before whispering a small, “it’s okay I forgive you.”

•The fact that Meatball went over to comfort Everett won over Curt a little bit but he’s still got a hell of a lot of more trust gaining to do.

•Him and James spend a lot of time just sitting in his truck quietly together while music plays and they eat snacks.

•James can see that Everett’s cigarette problem has only gotten increasingly worse.

•He can see the way that Everett has became so flinchy to touch. They were always just so playful and naturally touchy with each other.

•I’ve rambled long enough but we know that these two make out…

•okay they have a really good character development arc I promise!

oh my days hello! thank you so much, this is such a good ask! i feel like, if spotify is around during the problem, they have a group spotify account for sure! but i definitely have a lot of thoughts about their personal music tastes :)

lucy is probably a fan of artists like lizzy mcalpine, phoebe bridgers, taylor swift, olivia rodrigo. sweet hibiscus tea (post by my mutual that i adore) is such a lucy song, as well as iris by the goo goo dolls! her favourite taylor swift album is speak now all the way, and maybe midnights too! when she first met holly she made an angry girl feminine rage playlist about her with all sorts of feral taylor/olivia rodrigo music. she's the kind to listen to pop rock music on full volume in her room screaming every word of it and i am so here for it :D

george would listen to conan gray for sure! he also listens to lizzy mcalpine but he's more of a mitski, arctic monkeys, rex orange county type of listener. kid krow is one of his most loved albums, and his favourite taylor swift album is red! i also feel like he would listen to classical music sometimes, especially george cubbins! piano hits the sweet spot, and he plays it in his earphones while he's at the archives on a case / reading comics while curled up with tea. (RAAHHHH i can imagine it so well somebody write a fic)

lockwood definitely bullies george for listening to classical music, but theres a hc floating around tumblr that he plays piano -> he probably plays a few of george's favourite pieces for him! but as for music taste? he listens to taylor swift (for sure). he claims his fav album is reputation but it's actually 1989. he listens to lana del rey and his favourite album is norman f*cking rockwell or ultraviolence, and he probably dabbles around with the weeknd and older drake music! i feel like he also listens to coldplay!! he probably has a subtly named playlist with songs that remind him of lucy (first song on there is lucy lucy by betcha)! during the famous grocery store incident lore, a shitpost involving a lot of locklyle, one of the many hcs is that he played his lucy playlist instead of the group one time and was just like 😳

the skull probably asks lucy to play peaches by jack black just to see lockwood dramatically leap to the piano and sing along "soulfully" to it, saying lucy instead of peach every time LOL (he is belting awfully and hitting all the wrong notes and it is pissing EVERYONE off)

but as for a group playlist, just a blend of all their music tastes really. a lot of taylor swift, and they would listen to the radio often! (english people will know) they listen to radio 1's morning podcast with greg james while doing up breakfast!

i want to say that i am totally normal about this man, but who would i be kidding at this point? today i bring you even more thoughts about my favourite babygirl. based partly on these two lists, here and here. more hcs can be found over in volume one, which is equally as nonsensical.

his name, how it got picked and his thoughts

corey wallace cunningham. joan picked corey's first name from a book of baby names. no real reason other than she liked it. she'd suggested a few other to wally that he had turned down, but he doesn't have a problem with 'corey' so that's what they go with. his middle name is after his dad, and it was joan's way of trying to sweeten wally up to having a baby at all (isn't he happy he's going to have a son to carry on the family name?).

his full name was decided before he was born. joan and wally were pretty sure they were having a boy (as sure as they could have been in the mid-late 90s, when ultrasound quality wasn't as good as it is today), so they had a name ready. they did have a girl's name picked as well, just in case.

corey likes his first name well enough, there's nothing wrong with it. joan pronounces it with a pretty strong accent, which rubbed off a little on corey himself and he's never been able to shake it. he prefers the way he's heard other people say it.

he's never had a nickname. 'corey' is kind of short already. sometimes his friends say core, which he's fine with but he's not particularly attached to that. joan (perhaps surprisingly) was never big into pet names, she'll call him 'baby' or 'honey' sometimes, or 'buster' if she's scolding him (that's novel canon, don't shoot the messenger, folks).

in the run up to joan and ronald getting married, corey did wonder if they'd change their name to prevo, but it never actually gets mentioned. joan doesn't even change her surname, let alone corey's (can't have ronald thinking he's any more involved than necessary).

if corey ever got married, i think he'd be more open to changing he surname to his partners. he wants to disconnect from joan as much as possible. and even if his name is technically his dad's, he has his middle name to still keep that torch burning, so he'll happily become mr. corey [insert name here].

gender identity

corey is a man. he could never be anything else, just look at him. he has a pretty unstable sense of self though, and idolises classic american masculinity. he's vintage masc, like if james dean was built like a collegiate wrestler. he's someone who revels in gender affirming presentation and behaviour, while he's constantly emasculated at home. it's part of why he becomes so obsessed with michael - who is the pinnacle of his masculine idealisations; power, strength, control, even violence.

@slutforstabbings made this excellent post about corey's relationship to gender and his own sense of masculinity and how michael plays into that. "is it a sex thing, or a gender thing?"

i won't go too much into this next point because it just isn't within my experience or frame of reference, but i love reading about people's interpretations of corey as a transman or in some way transmasculine. in-universe, i'm not sure what the ramifications would be for that being his identity, i'm not sure if joan would be supportive or if corey would even have the means to transition in the way he wants to. but, from a literary perspective, i can absolutely see joan being pleased to have a son rather than a daughter. "difficult daughters of difficult mothers" are often portrayed as two (indignantly) similar people who resent each other, whereas "passive sons of overbearing mothers" is in a whole other ballpark; joan would be delighted to have a son she can manipulate and emasculate into being a good momma's boy.

sexuality and labels

corey is bisexual, but to be honest he doesn't really label himself at all. the need to think of a label has never really come up so he never bothered with one, he just deals (or doesn't deal) with his attraction as and when it happens.

he knows the "main", broad labels people use, it just somehow bypasses him that one might apply to him, even when he reaches the point where he fully acknowledges that he's attracted to a lot of different people, for a lot of different reasons.

he experiences attraction to different genders very differently. because he hasn't put a name to what he feels yet (or ever), a lot of his early crushes (or squishes) never really registered to him. he's had crushes on men and women since he was a teenager, but it's not until he actually gets a chance to act on any of those feelings that it even occurs to him that he swings both ways.

he's a daddy issues cliché, but he does have a thing for older men. seeking all the validation and approval and attention that he never got while growing up. he feels like there's something safe about older men, even if that security is misplaced. but fear not !! he's a mommy issues cliché too !! the only way he's ever learned to love someone is obsessively. he has a tendency to put a lot of his emotional needs onto his s/o. he won't mean to, and he certainly doesn't want his girlfriend to be his mom, but joan would frequently cross emotional boundaries so he's not totally clear on which lines are for which relations.

(if roger and theresa asked him to, he'd absolutely be their third, no questions asked)

is he open about his orientation?

not really, but it's not strictly speaking a "secret" either. he hasn't told anyone, but it's also just never come up before. i don't know if he'd ever feel the need to come out.

haddonfield itself is not exactly a liberal metropolis, but it's also not a right-wing nightmare town either; most LGBT+ residents just go about their lives without much trouble, but the chances of someone on the street being homophobic/transphobic are never zero.

he does have a bit of a crisis about it at around his junior year, which is the first time he realises what he feels for his physics teacher might not be just wholesome, academic admiration. but it also makes something click in his brain and he's pretty quick to come to terms with it. also, he realises he won't actually have to deal with any of the possible implications of what he thinks is going on for one reason and one reason alone: joan.

joan pitches a fit at even the smallest inkling of a crush, even just with girls, so it's safe to say his feelings for boys is something he'll likely never bring up to her (unless the day comes where he can be out of that house and living his own life). although he knows ronald's a good guy, he'd never think to come out to him, they just aren't close enough.

corey actually never admits to any crushes, regardless of gender, not even to his friends. he's a bit "girl crazy", always has a crush but never acts on it, and you'd seriously have to waterboard that info out of him. he also falls victim to crushing on one of the only out guys in school, imagining what would happen if he ever got the guts to speak to him at one of the parties he sneaks out to. but that crush passes quickly when corey's attention drifts to a girl in his homeroom, and then to the football team's quarterback, and then to his lab partner. he has a bit more of a chance at community college, and he don't think he'd deny it, but he's so hesitant to embark on any sort of relationship that he's honestly just taking what he can get anyway.
