on twitter, a viral thread started where people around the world shared their translations of “If I must die”, the last work of Dr Refaat Alareer also known as "the voice of Gaza". A beloved poet, teacher and life-long activist for Palestine, he was recently assassinated along with members of his extended family by a targeted Israeli air strike. His loss leaves a hole in the heart of palestinians all over the world.

Will never stop thinking about how Leo, all alone in an endless void and being beaten again and again and again by the only other living thing around, still finds comfort in that space. The situation he was in was completely hopeless, and in any other circumstances he would not have escaped, at least not fast enough to save him from permanent (or even fatal) damage, be it physical or mental.

And yet, despite the bleakness of his situation, despite the agony and helplessness, all he needs is one glance at a crumbled photograph, one glance to remember his family, and that’s enough of a reason for him to smile.

Maybe that’s why his powers center around manipulating space - because no matter how much space is between them, no matter how dire his own situation may be, just the thought of his family, alive and okay, is enough to give Leo hope.

I really liked these unique scenes that were made for the Pikmin Garden website entry on caves. Technically, neither of these use unique assets, but it's kinda cute that they went through the trouble of making these scenes just for character building.

The language part (ie the Main Actual Game) of Chants of Sennaar is very fun don't get me wrong - figuring out when a radical means person, or signifies a verb, etc etc - but the number system is absolutely fascinating

the thing about amen and vincent that i think a lot of you still do not understand (and i'm using them specifically bc they're the ones being compared) is that 1) amen wants every single dark magician dead, and he takes pleasure in torturing them and killing them, that is a very important part of his character, and that's why the book has made it so fucking clear! amen said it himself! he is not gonna change his ways just because he and eva are in love! eva literally makes the decision to accept that part of himself, so you cannot deny it and you can't complain if you were expecting something else because the book was pretty clear from the beginning about who amen really was (and i'm not saying he doesn't have layers but those do not take away the fact that he enjoys killing and that's that) -- and 2) vincent is not like amen at all. sure, his job, and i think it even has to do with his legacy, is being a demon hunter, but he doesn't go around killing every fucking demon he comes across, he's only after the ones who don't care about his world's ways, the ones who kill humans (like mc was planning to do until he told her what would happen if she did). and sure, you can argue that both amen and vincent want to rid the world of "evil", but again, amen takes pleasure in toturing and killing people (and it's because of a personal vendetta he has, may i add), vincent does not

So, my native language is Dutch, right.

I don't really like it because, strangely enough, I suck ass at Germanic languages despite my native language being a Germanic language.

I'm in my last year of high school in the course Latin + Modern languages, so in total (counting Dutch and Latin), I'm learning 6 languages in school + Italian that I'm studying on my own (for our school trip to Italy at the end of the year).

So, 7 languages. And I'm loosely fluent in 3 of them: Dutch, English and French.

But even though I don't really like my native language, there is a word that I think is very cute and unique (?) to our language that I wanna share with you all.

"Hebbedingetjes", literally translated, means "little things to have."

Just. Small things that have no other purpose other than to cherish them. No other purpose other than to love them. They're literally just that. Small things to care about and that have no value other than the value *you* give it because you like it that much.

And I think that's precious.

Hey unironically i think i should be hired by streaming sercives to fix their subtitles. I think there should be a way for viewers/streamers to report bad or inaccurate subtitles or ways they could be improved. I think they should be able to ask for better translations or ask to be told what language is being spoken if they switch languages. I think this should be an option for big blockbusters and random indie movies and international shows/movies and i think streaming companies should stop paying for the cheapest fucking options for their captioning

#this post brought to you by Highlander (1986) on Amazon Prime having the shittiest subtitles ive ever seen #un-synced #when it wasn't dialogue it just said Noise & Music constantly #and also that post about netflix not saying what language is being spoken and that effecting your understanding of the story #and also that one time prime had a show that just had a character saying Speaks Cantonese so you didn't get half the conversation #and the english subtitles for Squid Game not having any captions when anyone spoke english but they were all masked so they were muffled and #i couldn't read their lips so ironically i only understood the korean in that show #feel free to add on to this post
