Ryder was more than aware that it was hard to have any time to yourself when you had kids. They demanded the majority of your time and energy, after all. Which was part of the reason why he was more than eager to stay later whenever he hung out with Nick. If you could call lazily making out on the couch whenever they had a moment to themselves ‘hanging out.’ 

Fingers curled into the other’s hair, tugging him closer and deeper into the kiss. It was late enough that any thought of Chloe waking up and coming to search for Nick was put in the far parts of the back of his mind. (There had been multiple occasions where they were almost walked in on, after all). It was barely a thought. At least until the sound of Nick’s name being called from the other room echoed softly and Ryder let out a quiet groan. “Fine,” he grumbled reluctantly and pulled back to allow the other to sit up.

he  knows  better  than  to  push  for  answers ,  if  nick  wanted  to  tell  him  the  details  he  would   ;   besides ,  he’s  completely  exhausted.   a  simple  nod  is  given ,  one  of  understanding  and  then  he’s  leading  nick  into  his  home  ;   closing  the  door  behind  them  both  and  paying  mind  to  lock  up  completely ,  he  doesn’t  know  if  anyone  would  have  followed  him.   unlikely ,  given  what  little  he  has  been  told  in  the  past  but  he  can’t  be  too  sure ,  nick  had  somehow  ended  up  here  for  shelter  and  that’s  exactly  what  he’s  going  to  recieve.

It was not even the first time that Ryder had someone bloody and bruised show up at his door. He had a habit of befriending people who were more rough and tough than he was. Though there had been quite a few times where he had gone home bloody and bruised. It was definitely nothing close to what most people experience, though. 

He had almost looked surprised when he opened the door to find Nick there. Though he was gentle as he cleans the blood from the other man’s face and expression scrunched up in concern. He should question what had happened and who he had gotten into a fight with. But would Nick actually want to tell him? The thought was brushed off as he focused back on cleaning him up, wiping the blood off his face. 

“You don’t have to apologize-” Ryder sat back to glance Nick over, giving him a small smile.

frustration

In longing, you feel frustration. You feel that you’ve almost reached your desire one too many times and you don’t understand why you keep getting denied. You feel the universe is taunting you, playing just beyond your reach and leaving you on the brink of breaking every time it dances away. When you let yourself feel your yearning, you bury your face in your hands and turn to look at the sky, not expecting an answer, but pleading for relief. There’s a burn in your heart that you just can’t explain in words but it’s deep, you can feel it in your throat and just under your chest. You take a deep breath and exhale heavily. It settles you enough to continue on as you were. You see others living your desire and you don’t feel jealous per se, but the burn raises in intensity and you just wish… something. You want change from your current situation, at this point, you don’t really care what it is, just… something. Have courage my dear, you can brave the fires of this world if you so wish.
