i think i’ve learned a lot when it comes to not applying my own values to the media i consume
for my script analysis class yesterday, we discussed two gentleman from verona, and nearly every classmate of mine was up in arms about how sexist the story is.
and i'm not saying it's not, or that it's not infuriating to read. but i'm also not putting my energy into getting upset about something written 500 or so years ago. and i'm not about to put my own beliefs onto these characters that are not me. i'm going to let their choices speak for themselves, and interpret it in the context of the story.
all that said, this now brings me to the point of alastor in episode 5, and how viscerally people are responding to it. those of you up in arms about the choices he’s making, and the violent threat he gave husk, you’re missing the entire point of his character, of this place they’re in, of the story being told. he’s an overlord, and he became an overlord by killing much bigger overlords and broadcasting their deaths over the radio.
HE IS NOT A GOOD PERSON.
if you started this show with the belief that every character working the hotel is a good person, you’re in the wrong place. watch the good place if you’re looking for a good wholesome story about getting dead sinners into heaven, because that’s not what this show is about.
you’re more than welcome to hate him after seeing the way he exerted power over a being whose soul he owns, but you’re doing the media you’re watching a disservice by writing it off so quickly. if you don’t like to be uncomfortable watching media, watch something else. this is an uncomfortable show, it handles uncomfortable topics, and it’s going to be an uncomfortable ride, and if you’re not up for something like that, then you should take a break from it and pick up something else. you don’t have to get online and defend your own ideals while you watch a show that goes against your ideals.
#hazbin hotel spoilers#that’s not even touching on the fact that husk was an overlord too#he also owned souls that he used as currency to supply his gambling addiction#he’s also not a good person!!#the majority of these characters are in hell for a reason: they’re not good people#i quite frankly love the way this show blurs the lines between good and evil#our heroes are sinners and overlords and demons. while the enemies are angels. but that doesn’t mean our heroes are good people.#you HAAAVE to come to terms with that!! you have to stop seeing the world in black and white or you’re not going to survive this world#if you’re upset because alastor was cruel to husk fine! be upset! but explore why you’re taking yourself out of that world.#in this world sinners own other people. there’s no ifs ands or buts#‘oh alastor is a poc why would he own people’ he was a serial killer when he was alive do you really think you can apply your values to that#(and this is me speaking as a poc. specifically a mixed race poc.)#i cannot speak to who vivzie is as a person. but i’m interested in the message she’s writing and thus far i’m finding it compelling#it’s a similar story as the good place but it’s going the distance to explore even worse people than those in the good place#i don’t think it’s responsible to write something off just because unsavory things happen in it.#and she’s giving us so many different types of representation that don’t involve race (although we’re also getting a lot of hispanic rep)#just like cool your jets and maybe process some of the anger you’re feeling. and maybe nothing will change.#but if you act. instead of react. if you understand why you’re feeling some type of way and then make a choice.#that’s so much stronger and more responsible than reacting and not thinking anything through#hazbin hotel#alastor#husk#hazbin alastor#hazbin husk#anyway let me get off my soapbox#long post

Oh yeah, Angel Dust has a sister, her name's Molly, there are a bunch of speed drawings with her.
Anon I think you are the only fan of Molly as I have not sent her be mentioned outside of 2017.
Genuinely thought that Molly was like Niffty/Vaggie situationship because I had NO fucking clue what stance Molly even was outside of just looking at a distant glance over definitely not realizing that was what happened to the past 'Angel Dust Drag'..... The fact that it personifies into a woman that is barely mentioned [much like angel representing or doing drag in the first place], turned into fucking THIS????
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I cant even begin to comprehend.... She speaks for herself honestly. You can tell that viv genuinely did not give a fuck about the implications here or the lazy design that is 'Hmm angel dust but pink girly'
Tumblr media
I feel like she just became cut content considering there hasn't ever been a mention about angels' family besides his Arackniss
Tumblr media
Kinda weird how angel is more focused and put down upon in the spotlight more with Valentino and less with his 1930s mobster Italian spider persona :/ Even attempting to make a different womanly character known as the sister of angel dust, she is still tied down to him and has nothing besides this rainbow vomit old design.
How could I not be confused over angels' stance on dragging while VIV can't even fucking make characters up for him without retconning over herself!
Tumblr media
You want this mess of a character design to be made but not Baxter???? I'm baffled. Thanks for bringing this horrid 'writing' decision to my notice. Since viv doesn't give a single lick of sense about Molly I too did not realize that Molly was supposed to be the hyper feminized pink eyesore that was SUPPOSED to be Angel's DRAG PERFORMING CARICATURE???
Your ask has the exact same amount of punch as telling me that Blitz has a sister, they are underwritten to be one of the same since they're women obviously Viv just doesn't like writing women ! :/

I just came across this post which explains that disabled people are welcome in the community regardless of the source of their disability. Specifically, people who “did it to themselves” via complications from addiciton, injuries from high-risk behavior, or any number of other reasons (although someone in the notes correctly points out that addiction is already a disability on its own.) Its not currently reblogable but I really wanted the sentiment to reach as many people as possible
So just to be clear, people who “did it to themselves” still deserve accommodation and acceptance and community. In fact I would even go so far as to say nobody ever really “did it to themselves” because no healthy person with options would ever willingly or knowingly disable themselves, and also because factors leading up to pretty much any disability can actually be traced back for generations.

The coolest gender thing in the 2009 Japanese video game persona 3 100% how hard they coded shinjiro as the dead mom
#.txt#i got soooo mad in the car driving home thinking about how his drug addiction is essentially the classic anime heart condition.#in that the only side effect of the suppressants is that they will kill him. like?#i realized for the longest time i had assumed the chest pain and sweating came from the drugs but thats. castor. obviously.#it doesnt affect his mood or his awareness its like a mood stabilizer pain relief pill?#its so odd that hes framed as like. being addicted to illegal street drugs. BY THE NARRATIVE.#when its more like hes on the most insane experimental medication that they wont even test on like. rats.#also im not fact checking any of this before posting. so i might be lying about things.#idk if it was all of strega that had trouble controlling their personas but like. chidori was because of the Experimentation.#and shinjis just like. mentally ill coded. in a bad way 😭#The inability to regulate a mood/stimuli to the point where he can be unsafe to himself or others.#broad ass symptom of disorders that are not treated well. its also interesting that its not brought on by a specific event.#like the childhood fire is there. but you have akihiko right there to directly compare it to. and hes arguably more effected by it all.#and he seems to be coping well 10+ years on like some coping mechanisms are kind of weird (protein) but nothing super out of the ordinary.#so the problem is really the october 4th incident which was just a pure honest to god accident.#the fact that it gets covered up as a car accident does feel like the best like. emotional equivalent.#because it being shinji being unable to control his persona his true representation of himself and it resulting in death is sooooo bleak#and it weighs on him for 2+ years of being suicidal and unhoused until finally he goes through with his suicide by martyrdom.#i lost the plot a little bit on the gender situation with the vague allusions to fraility when story convenient#acting as dorm den mother and cooking and sewing long hair jacket sillhouette reading like a dress#was referring to that before mental illness took over. woman under the influencing this anime boy.#long way of saying i think he should have a over the shoulder ponytail when hes older. and he should have a mood disorder.

I swear to fucking god I’m never gonna get over and therefore never gonna stop talking about how much I adore the compelling complexity of this character.
They really gave us a main protagonist that does some of the worst fucking things in the entire show out of a desperation and chronic obsession to feel loved and needed and told us “Hey, look it’s okay. This is very human. And you still deserve to be loved regardless.”
They really did that. If there’s any message that is most important to teach in this show I’d say it’s that.
I just wish this also applied to non-human and soulless entities that didn’t have bonds to the core characters. Imagine if this was the treatment that Spike got when he was soulless. Rather than treating him so awfully. Maybe he would have acted much less of a monster. I honestly think that with more support and respect from not just Buffy but everyone, Willow and Xander and Giles, everyone he surrounded himself around, I think he would have became a better man without a soul because somehow, even soulless, even treated the way he was,… he was still able to be and do good.

low activity notice.
Tumblr media
as my recent vent posts have suggested, i've been working a ton and have been completely overworked and burnt out because not only am i working almost everyday with no break, we've been completely understaffed so everyday it feels like i'm doing the work of 2-3 people while a promotion gets dangled over me but never comes while dealing with so many shitty customers and harassment of every kind. so my activity is as high as i can manage, but i'm completely drained guys. i requested a week off but they are dragging their feet approving it >:( if you still want to interact, may i recommend checking out my meme tag or my opens. i generally tend to get to those quicker than dms, plotting, or starter calls

hi there!!! just finished the doc you wrote about the last two eps of f&c and WOW you put everything into so much better words than i ever could have. 1000% agree with everything you said you are SO right and i will be citing this for anyone who i talk to about it... it's really comprehensive on all the issues i saw with it. you did a really awesome job on it and i really appreciate your work for it! i wanted to show my love for it so i doodled this betty from memory for you :-D hope you have a great day!
Tumblr media
(an aside i'd like to mention that you might've covered and i just don't remember is... i wish the episode covered more on the issues with his identity as compared to ice king or the lack thereof. he displayed it a lot in episode 2 and a bit in episode 4, at least to me - sort of related to your points on the conclusion not showing its effect on simon's issues with depression, i'm really sad to see that part of his arc get very little light, it was all just so pushed aside in those eps. MAYBE that specific aspect of the identity stuff is me projecting a little but oh well! i will simply imagine an ending that does conclude it properly ehehe)
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH !!! i love this doodle & will cherish it forever w all my heart 🥺❤️ (and download it to my phone - the ultimate honor, as i have almost no space left in my gallery rn lmaoo) & yeah the essay didn't rlly discuss it but i TOTALLY agree! i was also disappointed they didn't really explore simon's identity issues much (if at all - but like, u can really stretch if u want 2 pretwnd they did lmao) @ the end despite it being such an important part of his character and also bettys, so they could have easily worked it into a betty & simon focoused ending & especially after how it was emphasized earlier on in the series! i honestly have a lot of complaints abt the way they handled simons character specifically that i didn't discuss in the essay bc it was already long enough & i wanted to keep it mostly focused on how the show messed up in regards to how betty & simon’s narratives intertwine together ! huge agree though - f&c really dropped the ball with the way they handled his character @ the end

i getcha but shane’s an alcoholic not an addict i think there’s a diff yk
hmmmmm well first of all those things aren’t mutually exclusive so jot that down, SECOND effectively divorcing alcoholism from addiction is soooooo damaging unless ur goal is to minimize the seriousness of alcohol dependency, and THIRD !! shane is an addict. there is literally no denying this. alcoholism is many things !! it's a mental illness, it's a compulsion, it's a form of substance abuse, it's a chronic disease, it's a dependency, and it is an addiction. sorry that media has warped this and watered it down, but i quite literally cannot stress this enough. now,,,,,
i’m about to simplify and redact a LOT about living with addiction to get my point across (bc it’s such an intensely complex, all-encompassing thing to discuss; it touches every aspect of ur life!!) but as someone who has been living with an alcohol addict who does not want to get better for the better part of my life and watched his alcoholism turn from dependency to addiction, watched his skin turn yellow and his limbs bloat, watched him go through every stage of liver failure, had to clean up his urine and vomit and shit stains, watched him collapse and injure himself in his stupors, had to wade through the filth of his bedroom, had to endure the smell of this man who had not bathed in weeks sweating alcohol, had to witness dozens upon dozens of cyclical interventions and arguments and threats and violent outbursts and broken relationships and manipulation tactics and cycles and lies and lies and lies and lies to keep drinking because alcoholism cognitively impairs you permanently……… i can say this: love does not cure addiction. love does not cure alcoholism. there is no "cure", only treatment, and only if it’s wanted.
if stardew valley wanted to create a character with alcoholism, simple as their characters may be, it was their job to handle it with care and they failed at it tremendously. not to mention his savior complex romancers who play off his addiction as a joke?? loving someone with an addiction is not to be romanticized. it is a constant trial. it requires immense empathy while balancing your own boundaries. it is not a romantic hurdle, it is a permanent part of your relationship. like sorry i know sdv is not that deep but if that were truly the case they shouldn’t have tried to incorporate such a serious topic into one of their romance options 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s irresponsible and uncomfortable
