Okay so I just got an ide for a ROTTMNT/TMNT 2012 crossover fanfic but I'm shit at writing so uhm here's the idea if anyone wants to write it. If you do write it please credit me/tag me/message me lol. You don't have to ask for permission just like, make sure I know about it/can read it thamks
Anyway, the actual idea is as follows:
Okay okay so it's set post-movie (like a few months later ) and everyone's recovering and healing their trauma and all that right? So they're all doing pretty ok but Leo's doing like worse than the others ptsd/mentally-wise and is very wary about like the concept of time/dimension travel.
So, Raph, Mikey and Donnie, being the good brothers they are, don't being up the topic around him, but they talk about it when he's not around cuz Donnie's making a multi-dimensional gun because since he's proved time travel, he also wants to prove dimensional travel.
Anyway so he finishes the gun, right? And so he takes his brothers (minus Leo) to test it out somewhere secluded. And it works!! And alternate veraions of him, his brothers, April, Splinter and even Casey (all 2012 mind you) come through the portal!! And everyones confused and excited so they introduce themselves and clear everything up and all that. So then the 2012 gang turn around to go home but the portal closed and the gun's not working for whatever reason. Shit.
Raph offers they stay with them, and then Mikey reminds them of Leo and everyone (-2012) is like 'Oh shit what are we gonna do'
And so they decide on a plan. The 2012 gang are going to stay in their lair until they find a way to send them back and tell Rise! Splinter about it, but make sure Rise! Leo, under NO CIRCUMSTANCE, finds out.
And the whole fanfic is them trying to navigate life while keeping the 2012 gang a secret from Rise Leo
In the end (think like a month more or less later) Leo finds out and freaks out but like a week later Rise Donnie sends them back to their universe so yeah. The Rise gang did get the 2012 gang's phone numbers tho so possible chatfic about that too??? Idk

“The Lives in Time of Katherine Kaye”
A silly story about my silly OCs! (But there is also Drama and Angst!) I’m posting this in case anyone has heard something about my soulless mad scientist and her chaos-gremlin younger self and wants to know more, or just for anyone who may happen to be interested lol.
This is kinda a draft/summary of the story so far and as such, it’s a mess, but it’s still very long so I’ve put it under a readmore! (TW for (fictional/fantastical) medical stuff, medical procedures without consent, self-harm, internalized ableism of the anti-neurodivergent variety, identity confusion, and child harm/endangerment)
Some characters and a little worldbuilding, before the story gets started:
Beastfolk/Auracai (a weird fantasy race I made up that’s kind of like elves crossed with catpeople):
Beastfolk age at about half the rate of humans and look like normal humans, but with semi-retractable claws, thin catlike tails, red eyes, and sharpened canines.
“Beastfolk” is what humans call them, referencing their “animal” traits. They call themselves Auracai (this is both singular and plural)
They’re originally from another dimension that contacts the human world (the main story’s world) only occasionally - essentially rare but not unheard of immigrants in this world.
Sometimes people end up in the wrong world by accident, without a way to get home, as travel between worlds is more “randomly/accidentally slipping through the cracks” than intentional, reliable travel.
Beastfolk can sense souls when in direct contact with someone, humans can’t.
Katherine Kaye (the main character/characters)
2 versions of her in the story, the emotionless mad scientist adult and the adolescent little chaos gremlin
Auracai/Beastfolk
Has Autism + ADHD + Anxiety
has a much older brother, Theodore, who’s been taking care of them since they ended up in the human world together
KT (the adolescent chaos gremlin version of Katherine)
28 (equivalent of 14)
Mischievous streak
A prankster
Really intense emotions, prone to overreacting
Senior in high school because of weird aging
Amateur singer/songwriter/musician and this is a major part of her personality
goes by KT because “it’s like ‘Katie,’ but cooler!”
Both a STEM nerd and an artist
Dreams of having an impact on the world, both of changing things for the better and of being cool and famous
Self-perception swings with her moods: often confident to the point of arrogance or overconfidence, but during a breakdown she’s full of self-loathing and shame.
Wants to travel, explore, and live a somewhat adventurous life; an ordinary office job would never satisfy her. Boring AF and a total waste of her potential.
Pigtails/twin tails
Likes to act cute to get what she wants
Dr. Kaye (the soulless mad scientist/adult version of Katherine)
Removed her own soul (heart/emotions/creativity/etc.) in an experimental process, which she tested on herself in a frustrated attempt to prove herself and to stop having such intense mood swings + be more productive and “better” without her emotional overreactions.
Ended up getting stuck in the past because she was researching interdimensional travel in an attempt to find a reliable way to get back and forth between the human world and the Auracai world (in this story time travel creates a new timeline/slightly different reality)
creepy ever-present smile (this was a form of masking and a coping mechanism, and remains a habit)
egotistical and doesn’t really realize the extent of it: she thinks that without a soul she’s become perfectly logical and efficient and immune to emotional biases. (This is revealed to be untrue when she has to reevaluate the idea that her current “emotionless” state is an improvement.)
now has really limited emotional range and is coldly logical most of the time
still has a few common emotional states though: excited/passionate/enthusiastic about her work, frustrated/annoyed/exasperated with people who are “not smart enough to see her vision” or “keep getting in the way,” amused at others’ incompetence or at messing with people, and a state of discomfort/guilt/concern about what she’s lost and what things have come to that is usually easily repressed and ignored, triggered by reminders of who she used to be
Really any emotion she feels is almost always mild enough to easily ignore.
Started promoting her soul-removal procedure as a “therapy” for anxiety, depression, various other mood disorders and emotional issues, and autism-related intense mood swings.
tends to dismiss other people as running on “mere irrational emotion”
Age: ~80s (early 40s) (She basically has a midlife crisis after getting stuck in the past lol)
she doesn’t tend to go by her first name and absolutely refuses to answer to the nickname “KT,” even from Ted.
almost completely lost her creative, playful side. No interest in anything artistic, including the music she used to love. “Fun” is not only unnecessary, but largely impossible for her, and anything involving conveying or coping with emotions? Forget it.
KT’s brother/guardian: Theodore Kaye
Perpetually exhausted, at the end of his rope
Nicknamed Ted, rarely goes by his full name Theodore
~ 50 (equivalent of 25)
Responsible because he has to be
Introverted
Low energy
Autistic (I love giving everyone the ‘tism lol)
Loyal to his sister, has a special connection with the one person who was there for him both before and after getting stuck in a different world
The story so far:
KT sees something about Dr. Kaye in the news and it mentions that she’s Beastfolk, which makes KT think that maybe she and Ted have a relative they didn’t know about. So KT goes on a bit of a wild goose chase trying to contact this person who might just be someone who happens to have the same last name. They meet, and Dr. Kaye explains the time stuff. Ted is looking for help and Dr. Kaye is like “oh yeah should probably do that, younger me will probably be a great collaborator when she’s a little older.” Ted gets the feeling that something is off about Dr. Kaye, but kinda doesn’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth. Clearly, this is his sister, or a version of her anyway, and although KT is a prankster, she’s a good kid. It’d totally be fine to trust her with… herself. Right? Right?
Time passes, Dr. Kaye recommends KT books, KT gets increasingly curious about Dr. Kaye’s weirder habits. She plays pranks on her, thinking her future self will laugh. She’d laugh. Dr. Kaye pretends to be amused the first time, then doesn’t react at all. She doesn’t react to a lot of things, actually, seeming to have no interest in much of anything, not caring about the things KT has liked her entire life. Something must have happened to her in the future that she refuses to discuss in order to create this weird disconnect, right?
Meanwhile this entire time Dr. Kaye has just been… watching KT be herself, which causes her a slight, odd feeling of discomfort that she can’t seem to explain.
Beastfolk, unlike humans, can sense someone’s soul when in direct contact with them. Dr. Kaye is careful to avoid touching people and not make it weird, a habit she formed before getting stuck in the past in order to avoid making other Beastfolk uncomfortable with her soullessness, and has become more important now that she’s stuck in the past and is attempting to hide her lack of a soul.  She also usually locks her bedroom door at night, but one night the door is accidentally left unlocked, and KT notices and tries to play a prank by putting a fake bug in Dr. Kaye’s bed while she’s asleep. She touched Dr. Kaye by accident  - she didn’t really mean to violate her boundaries, but she made the necessary contact and what she sensed was terrifying.
KT: *screams*
Kaye: *wakes up confused* what the hell are you doing???
KT: *too scared to react*
Kaye: I forgot to lock the door, didn’t I? And now you’re in my room staring at me like a deer in headlights. Just what do you think you’re doing?!?
KT: I, uh, it was just a prank, I didn’t mean to wake you up, you- your soul…
Kaye: *finds the fake bug* you touched me, didn’t you, as you were messing around trying to plant this ridiculous plastic bug for me to find in the morning… and I suppose I should explain things now that the cat is out of the bag, shouldn’t I?
She explains to KT about removing her soul and KT is horrified, but even more fascinated. She wants to know more, even though she also wants to run very fast in the opposite direction, and her other self is happy to explain.
KT: *holding Dr. Kaye’s hand, still fascinated by the strange emptiness inside of her* Does… does it hurt? Not having a soul, I mean…
Dr. Kaye: It doesn’t hurt anymore… but it did, at first. I won’t lie to you, removing it was… an extremely painful process. Of course, in most cases it’s done under anesthesia… though I obviously didn’t have that option. After the procedure, there’s definitely some pain, some lingering soreness, which is rather unresponsive to painkillers, but the worst of it fades naturally fairly quickly, and in a few weeks it’s entirely gone.  There’s also a certain sense of emptiness, afterwards… it feels like something is missing deep inside of you, which I suppose is true, but it’s a feeling I didn’t find it hard to get used to. That empty feeling never truly goes away, but it’s distressing at first mostly because it’s disconcerting, rather than being painful. It’s something I can sense even now, if I’m thinking about it, but I no longer find it bothersome, and I haven’t for a long time.
KT: That… kinda makes sense? And you said you don’t really feel emotions anymore?
Dr. Kaye: Yes, and that’s been an immense relief. No more anxiety, no more meltdowns.
KT: … no more happiness, though?
Dr. Kaye: I suppose you could say that… but I would say that might simply be the cost of being free of emotional bias. I do find I sometimes experience mild emotion-like states… I’ve found it unpleasant to be interrupted while I’m working, for example… but such experiences are transient and low in intensity, and as such they are easily dismissed.
Dr. Kaye then explains her plans to republish her discoveries in this timeline and promote her soul-removal procedure as a “therapy” for a variety of emotional problems, as she did in her own time. KT, understandably, freaks out further.
Meanwhile Ted starts realizing that something is deeply wrong with Dr. Kaye and wants his sister back. Eventually Dr. Kaye decides her kid self needs her “treatment” a little early because she keeps “being difficult,” as well as wanting to spare her younger self the suffering of having to live with her emotional overreactions. She tries to figure out the best way to present this to KT so she’ll agree to undergo the procedure willingly, but also prepares to do it by force if necessary, convinced that she knows what’s best for them. KT asks Dr. Kaye about her regrets, which with everything makes the repressed issues come back to the forefront. As she tries to say she regrets nothing and to ask KT to follow in her footsteps, these words somehow seem like a lie. KT is horrified, but her screaming and freaking out just solidifies in Dr. Kaye’s mind that she’s overreacting. She lets KT wear out her panic until she breaks down in despairing tears and states that if KT doesn’t stop resisting, she will force her.
“KT, listen to me. I’m you. I know what’s best for us. This is for your own good. Now, you can be good and listen to reason, or you can keep fighting and I will have to forcibly sedate you. Either way, when you wake up you won’t have to be sad and scared like this ever again. The pain you might feel now will be nothing compared to all the suffering I’m sparing you.” “W… will… I’m never going play pranks or sing or play music or draw or play pretend ever again will I… but I guess I have to grow up and give that stupid stuff up anyway… I… I have to grow up faster like you and stop that nonsense…”
Dr. Kaye realizes in that moment that she hasn’t done a single creative thing, hasn’t hummed a tune, doodled in the margins of a notebook, made up stories to fall asleep to, anything, since the day she cut out her soul. Is that worthless, or is that something she’s subconsciously missed for a very long time? She remembers that cutting out her own soul was originally an act of desperation and self-hate. She reconsiders everything.
Meanwhile KT is escaping. She runs home to Ted and cries in his arms. Dr. Kaye realizes that she doesn’t actually want KT to end up like her, and tries to apologize for everything, but is pushed away by Ted. Not wanting to waste this chance to tell her past self what she wishes she’d known, she disappears, but begins to write a diary/memoir of all the regrets she’d never let herself “waste time” dwelling on and all the useful life things she knows from experience that were hard or impossible to find in books. She leaves it for KT one day, around the time of KT’s high school graduation, and KT reads it and tries to find her again. Despite Ted’s deep distrust of Dr. Kaye, they reconnect, originally through email because Ted understandably doesn’t want Dr. Kaye anywhere near his sister. KT really wants to apprentice under Dr. Kaye, as working and training under an experienced mentor is common practice for young people in the Auracai world, and she argues with Ted about it.
“I thought you really wanted to go to a human university? Wasn’t that your big dream?” “Well kinda, but that was before I met Dr. Kaye! She’d be the perfect mentor because she’s doing so many things and they’re all the things I’m interested in!!!” “Are you completely forgetting that she tried to take your soul?!?? As far as I’m concerned, she’s unstable and dangerous.” “Okay yeah maybe she’s a little unstable but she wouldn’t be dangerous at all to me, she didn’t take my soul because she actually listens to me, remember?” “Katherine. Stop for a moment and listen to yourself. I can’t believe this is a conversation we even need to have.” “I’m trying to listen to myself, that’s kinda the whole point! ;) Someone keeps saying it’s a bad idea!” (KT doesn’t consider herself and Dr. Kaye to be fully one and the same the way Dr. Kaye does, but the joke was far too good for KT to pass up.) “You know what I meant, and it did not involve the potential future you that’s a soulless lunatic!”
Dr. Kaye starts asking KT for advice on moral and emotional matters, and KT feels needed. Ted begins to relax a little, though he still really doesn’t trust her. Dr. Kaye invites KT to join her on some kind of research trip, and KT sneaks away to do so against Ted’s orders. He is livid with her… but it is a little reassuring that she’s quite unharmed and had a good time. Eventually Ted’s attitude of “I am not letting you walk to your death” softens into “I’m not sure if I can stop you, and it’s really on you if you get hurt after I tried to stop you, but please text me every night with an update on your latest song or art project or whatever or just something about your day, something that’s you, so I know you’re okay.” So KT gets her apprenticeship, and the Katherines end up forming a sort of symbiotic relationship, with Dr. Kaye acting as a mentor, guardian, and voice of reason to KT, and KT acting as Dr. Kaye’s heart and soul and conscience. Dr. Kaye is still soulless but is starting to come to terms with it now… not exactly “okay” but no longer ignoring that there was a loss and more willing to listen to others or at least to her kid self. Although she also likes to say that if she regained her former emotional range now, she’d probably have a heart attack… especially when KT is causing trouble.

I have a question
now before by any means, i dont want to offend anyone, that is not my goal and im sorry if i do. i kinda just want to know (please dont cancel me lmao)
a lot of posts that i see, are about people getting exited about getting a medical diagnosis of autism. as someone who does have a diagnosis, i dont get why people would be so hyped. i also want to say that there is nothing with actually being autistic, this is based of the social standing of having an diagnosis. getting a diagnosis is good, just not exciting because society sucks.
i get it would be some closure, it would kinda explain why you were different from other kids. one of my siblings got diagnosed with autism when they were a toddler. it was easier to diagnosed them cuz they had a "male presenting" moderate to severe autism, basically they are visibly autistic. my other sibling wasnt diagnosed until they were a child. they had a more "female presenting" high functioning autism, so it was more difficult to get them a diagnosis. mind that they are identical twins. i didnt get a diagnosis until i was in my late teens. my doctor told my parent that i was "more visibly autistic" for years but i just got pushed to the side. i was diagnosed with adhd when i was 10 but i do think that was a misdiagnosis.
anyways back to the question, i dont get the hype other than closure. having an actual diagnoses can lead to good things, the only one i can think of is having one at a younger age so that you can (maybe) get an iep or accommodations. sadly, a lot of teachers dont care about these if your lucky to get them. my siblings were lucky, and they were lucky to be put in general education classes instead of special education (elementary school), but they were treated either like babies, idiots, just straight up ignored them, annoyed with them, and/or hated them (especially my more visibly autistic sibling). it wasnt until middle school that my siblings were put in special education classe, which were more for the bad kids that snorted a line of crack cocaine in the bathroom everyday. also if your a male in america, you can opt out of the draft lol
more of the "cons", having a diagnoses is great and all, until you tell people that you have a diagnoses they treat you like a baby, treat you like shit, and/or think that they will contract autism. youre gonna get flushed with sterotypes. you tell someone on a job interview you have autism or visibly have autism, you should know damn well they arent gonna hire you. it can really had to get a job, even if you have a degree. its hard and it sucks. i would never tell someone that i have autism, unless i was in love with them or something
so basically what i am saying is that, why would you get excited to get diagnosed with autism? i also want to say that there is nothing with actually being autistic, this is based of the social standing of having an diagnosis. getting a diagnosis is good, just not exciting because society sucks. i honestly have no idea why i wrote that entire thing, why didnt i just type this but oh well. also sorry if this was hard to read, english isnt my first language.

GUYSSSS OMG I HAD THE B E S T DAYYYY.
I got to go to the museum dedicated to my primary special interest (the Austin Dam disaster) and spend an hour wandering around and saw all the amazing panoramas in BIG SIZE not tiny book size and I got to see the desk that Katharine Nuscke wrote her books at and I found two NEW BOOKS I dont have and I BOUGHT THEM.
And then we tried to go to three antique stores but all of them were closed but then we found this FOUR STORY ANTIQUE STORE in an old hardware and let me tell you I died and went to heaven. I love antiques and local artists and this store was FULL of all the Good Things and things were Arranged Nice and it was sensory good and SO MUCH FUN
AND THEN we accidentally stayed past closing but got to talking with the owner and apparently her 17 y.o. daughter is my literal twin? Bipolar with a vasovagal syncope disorder and likely autistic and we talked for a while and then the daughter came in and I GAVE HER A TANGLE because she was so excited to see mine and gave her a glitter stick and also a mini slime and she was playing with the mini slime the whole time and like guys I found someone like me and im just SO EXCITED and also like.
I survived? Like im not dead and I know I'm gonna crash but I made it thru the day and did so many things that I love and I made a friend and and and
Oh and I also had a mini sensory crash this morning (I Hate This Shower) (at our camp) but I let myself uncomfy stim and I like. I "cleared the slate" aka I got rid of the Unhappy Feeling and like
GUYS I HAD A GOOD DAY.
I also drank a beer and am currently dizzy af with a headache but like.
I HAD A GOOD DAH

Tell me more about autistic Kaoru
OF COURSE. his biggest special interest is Cinderella. Absolutley adores that movie and watches it constantly. Was mostly into it as a child/in middle school but he still loves it and talks abt it. Watched it so much I think Hikaru is able to recite the whole thing word for word.
He also had an mlp phase that he's very embrassed abt (also bc Hikaru routinely made fun of him for it) (but Hikaru also watched it with him so what does that say about him...). His fave was always Rarity. Didn't watch the later seasons as he kinda forgot to. G5 was announced when he was in college and it brought all the memories back and somehow he and Hikaru convinced the whole Host Club to watch it with them. Hani loves it, Haruhi thought it was cute, Tamaki cried (hes emotional), Kyoya doesn't give a shit, and Takashi liked it but you wouldnt know that bc he never talks lol.
Since his autism isn't severe, it wasn't really recognized and he didn't get diagnosed until after highschool. He and Hikaru never really thought about it much, they just figured that's how Kaoru was. Like, that he just loved certain things a whole lot and was compelled to talk abt them for hours, that he got really fidgety when excited (I would think pacing/moving around a lot), and that he just hated certain textures with a passions (when he was a little kid he cried if people tried to make him wear socks normally. He hated the feeling so bad he Must wear them inside-out) (no im not projecting what are you saying haha) and that he could be overwhelmed and unable to do certain tasks (executive dysfunction) for "no reason"
It was actually Haruhi who, after being Kaoru's friend for all of highschool, suggested he get tested because she thinks he MIGHT be autistic. So he did, and well what would you know. At least it explained a lot of things he couldn't adequately explain before.
Side note I think Hikaru has ADHD. He moves on from topics/ideas at the speed of light and gets bored very, very easily. Its a known thing that the twins will stop doing something if it gets boring, but I like to think 90% of the time it was Hikaru who decided those things were boring and Kaoru just followed along bc he didn't care one way or the other. He's always looking for something to keep himself occupied so that's why he comes up with so many crazy ideas. The introduction of the Host Club actually helped improve his quality of life bc 1. it gave him something to do and someplace where he could excersizes his ideas and 2. it was able to teach him some patience since he DID have to be still and slow occasionally just chatting with people. I also think it helped both twins with getting used to routines, since they never cared much for school (Hikaru struggled to pay attention and Kaoru did as well because he thought it was boring).
Hikaru got his diagnosis the same time as Kaoru since they figured they should both get tested just in case (and because he didn't want Kaoru to feel singled out). He didn't expect anything to come from it but surprise!

My Rambly Non-Linear Thoughts About Spencer Being Autistic
so there’s obviously a lot of universal headcanons surrounding Spencer being autistic, but I’m gonna talk a little (a lot actually) about some of my more niche world-building and headcanons with this concept!
disclaimer: I am merely one autistic person, my experiences are not universal and I speak for no one except myself (and maybe my twin sister)
Spencer would’ve never gotten diagnosed as a child. It just wouldn’t have been feasible, that’s not to say he didn’t realize he was different, but it was likely chalked up to him being a genius.
Objectively, he would’ve been diagnosed with ‘Aspberger’s’ in the mid-2000’s and would’ve eventually swapped that label out for Autism Spectrum Disorder at some point.
There aren’t many people who diagnose adults in the US and insurance certainly doesn’t pay for it, so the diagnostic process would’ve been an out of pocket fee.
Setting all that aside, Spencer would’ve know. Maybe he would’ve originally come across the ADHD diagnosis and accepted it as a self-describer before realizing how much it doesn’t cover about his psychology.
When you’re autistic, some times it takes someone else pointing it out to you before you actually think about it. I have no doubts he likely had a lot of not so kind comments on his behavior and, trust me, people love to throw the word ‘autistic’ around as an insult.
Spencer doesn’t mask well. In the sense that okay, yeah, maybe he can mask for a couple hours at a time, but it really doesn’t work for him. Like he can’t get anything done and he’s not particularly good at masking in the first place.
Working in an environment where he has to present himself a certain way would be difficult, but having to team be so kind and understanding would lessen the pressure.
He likely masks to some degree in front of other officers and police departments and what not. He even has a hard time entirely letting his mask slip around the team, but he does usually and it’s a weight off his back everytime.
Vocal and movement stims are likely the most satisfactory for him. He uses wild gestures to overcompensate for not being able to flap his hands in front of most people. He usually rocks back and forth when he’s alone or really focused, and prefers a side to side motion rather than a forwards to backwards one.
He gets words stuck in his head constantly. The more words you know the easier it is to find one that sticks in your brain. Repeating these words outloud (echolalia) is one of the most satisfactory stims. But he does it less often than he would like because society tends to train you out of doing ‘weird’ things verbally.
He goes nonverbal often during or after meltdowns and after a long day. Sometimes words just won’t come and it’s really frustrating for him, but it’s something he works to accept about himself.
He overcompensates a lot of the times, something he learned as a young child trying to blend in. Instead of under expressing himself, he over-expresses things. His facial expressions are usually extremely indicative of the emotion he’s trying to portray. He also is very calculated with his use of tone and humor.
One thing he doesn’t overcompensate on is eye contact. He doesn’t make eye contact unless he has too. Usually too focused on whatever he’s talking about to even think about looking the other person in the eye.
Coffee is one of his safety foods (despite the teams constant insistence it’s not an actual food) and sugary treats usually aren’t as terrible sensory experiences as savory food (the smell, the taste, the texture)
He literally cannot have most kind of pets, even the concept of having fur or drool or feathers all over his apartment is enough to make him want to curl up in a ball. He has a turtle though! Those are super easy, he’s not super fond of cleaning the water (because the texture of water sometimes is just ugh) but he does it!
He collects special interests like some people collect stamps, his brain literally soaks up information on something hes interested in like a sponge. He’s partial to psychology, statistics, and classical literature though.
When he gets going on a rant, he just gets so excited and happy to share his interests! And if someone is actually listening and engaging (sometimes he thinks they are and they’re not, but that’s a different story) he gets even more excited! Sometimes a member of the team will engage with him about a topic he’s interested in for a while and it leaves him feeling completely energized and excited. Especially if he was able to stim throughout his talk.
Sweaters are usually great pressure stims, which is why he prefers them. Although, finding the right texture sweater is really the key.
Working in the law enforcement would come easy for him. Autistic people often have a strong sense of morality and justice, it’s not a surprise he would be an FBI agent. Often times, autistic people go into law enforcement because their sense of right and wrong is so strong they’re compelled to do something that utilizes that trait.
While his social skills aren’t particularly great, he’s really good with the team! Once he gets close to everyone it’s easy to be a good friend. Most neurotypicals are ridiculously easy to shop for, so he uses gifts and acts of service to demonstrate his love.
Physical touch is a day to day type of thing. Sometimes he enjoys it, sometimes he hates it, and sometimes he merely tolerates it.
Anyway that’s all I got for now! Feel free to add stuff in the reblogs, I love hearing other people’s thoughts about this!

Autistic amity hc dump please
Oooo okay
Amity doesn't clearly stim very often unless she's really excited, like in WILW, but she often plays with abomination goo when she's alone because she rlly likes the texture
Azura is 100% her special interest, and she often hyperfixates when learning new spells and casts them obsessively until they're perfect
She also stims in the form of writing in her diary, which helps her calm down if she's stressed
Amity never talks about it to her parents cause the one time she brought it up her mother got mad because "You have nothing wrong with you, stop exaggerating, you know it's important to be perfect, don't show such weakness"
The twins support her tho, and cover for her if she ever gets too overwhelmed and say that's she studying in her room
She was very scared to say anything to Luz about her autism, but she finally got the courage and Luz was like "Omg that's so cool, I have ADHD, and people say that they're pretty similar, and people who are neurodiverse get along really well with other ppl like them!"
Amity is super relieved, and it's probably the first thing she's ever heard about it that's not negative at all
Also Azura Book Club is just Luz and Amity infodumping to each others for hours every couple of days and they both enjoy it so much cause they're really on the same wavelength

I was thinking about that scene in cr1 e94 where vex is meditating trying to connect to Pelor as part of the grey hunt and finding it really difficult and I think Matt even mentions Vex is someone who needs a lot of sensory input so I was wondering if you had any thoughts on Adhd vex
so im rewatching this scene now and oh man vex is, as ever, the biggest fucking mood
like she hadn’t been initially on my list of nd headcanons bc she doesn’t outwardly show it a lot but then i remember she’s the character in cr i relate to the most and i probably don’t outwardly show it a lot either, because fun thing about being a girl as well as neurodivergent is you get really good at hiding that shit! i can mimic a neurotypical person perfectly because i spent most of my childhood learning how to do that but goddamn is it fucking exhausting
but yeah, vax is very obviously adhd, so his twin definitely can be too!
adhd vex proof:
yes yes yes sensory input!! you’re right in that matt mentions it in this episode, she’s someone who needs a lot of external stimuli, she’s more drawn towards chaos than calm. which like, a lot of us can relate to, because when your brain is constantly working at a hundred miles an hour, the chaos makes you feel a lot more relaxed than the calm, where you’re always on edge. good trait for adventurers to have, honestly, which is probably a reason it’s less obvious in vex to begin with - she has that outlet for it. as much as she was really concerned with fitting in in syngorn, i imagine teenage her had a lot more of a problem staying still
defines herself a LOT by other people’s standards - this is both a trait of any kid who doesn’t fit in (which is true both bc adhd and because half elf), but also that rejection sensitivity makes it a very appealing thing to do - having people disapprove of you in any way, even mildly, makes it feel like the world just shattered in front of your eyes, so trying to make yourself what they want you to be is just the smart response
you know that thing, when you were a kid, and people used to use “you’ve got a big day tomorrow!” or “the quicker you go to sleep, the quicker you get to [exciting thing]” as motivation to sleep? or you saw people on tv experiencing that? and apparently for them it works?? whereas for you the only way to sleep is to not be excited about tomorrow, because your brain doesn’t process time the same way so you can’t process sleep as coming before the exciting thing, the exciting thing has to be Right Now and if we go to sleep we don’t do Exciting Thing and entire brain is focused on that thing now oh fuck looks like i accidentally stayed up until 4am
that’s the entire vibe i get from the sun tree scene
like vex manages to stay down there a really long time but only while actively trying to get a vision, and when that doesn’t work she switches tactics, she’s not thinking “eventually a vision will happen”, she’s thinking “how do i think hard enough that the vision happens now”
(and also how easily her mind wanders despite that)
when this doesn’t work she starts complaining to trinket how they’ve been down there for days (it’s been maybe 10 hours) and they’re going to be stuck there forever (she can leave whenever she wants, but she really cares about this thing so she’s not going to) and mood
i’ve mentioned this before, but vex... really does have a lot of empathy. and i don’t know if that’s more of an autistic thing or adhd thing bc there’s a lot of crossover and i don’t always remember which me things are which nd things but hyper empathy is a thing for at least one of them! and like, she does so much burying of it, because it’s a survival mechanism and she had a really rough childhood, she’s got about 500 emotional walls up at any given moment. but once you realise that she only really gets snippy and pretends like she doesn’t care in situations where she feels unsafe, she cares so much
fairly resistant to change? adhd isn’t as routine oriented as autism is, but big life changes are still things that can get completely overwhelming, and vex definitely doesn’t want to deal with those. a life on the road, that doesn’t count as change to her, that’s her routine, but settling down with percy? that’s terrifying
literally in this episode part of her internal monologue is “what are you gonna do, stay here??”, she loves percy, but she doesn’t want her adventuring life to change, because then she has to figure out how to navigate a new life (and honestly, that takes her a while, even in their epilogue they mention percy and vex still do the adventuring thing a lot, they never plan to retire, bc that’s life for them)
vax is the other big constant in her life that she needs to stay constant, she doesn’t want him to get into a relationship with keyleth bc she’s scared it’ll make things between them change, and even once she’s gotten over that, she ignores vax’s attempts to tell her he wants to move to zephrah several times, because she can’t really handle the idea that things might change between them that much, can’t deal with a life where he’s not living in the same place as her
as much as she does try to fit in, she also prefers to live in the forest and her best friend is a bear. tell me that’s not just a constant nd mood

The sides except they go to a tech school
This is extremely self indulgent but I apologize for nothing
Roman’s Program: Digital Media
Roman’s big dream is to be an actor, but he also has a very intense need to know a whole bunch of stuff about the production field and be a jack of all trades, basically
He’s also autistic and has a huge special interest in movies, so he’s just on cloud nine
He had a really hard time making friends at his home school, which is also another reason why he most to go to the tech school instead. He wanted a second chance and to meet new people who loved the same stuff he could never seem to shut up about, but he’s also very nervous and just really wants to make some friends this year
He’s also extremely salty that Remus followed him to his new school. Remus was always the talk of the school and Roman was always in his shadow, so this time, his strategy is to pretend that Remus doesn’t even exist
Remus will not take this as an a solution, but Roman’s not giving up anyway
He also met Patton, Logan, and Virgil in his College English class. Their seats were assigned next to each other, but it was Patton that actually started getting all of them to talk to each other
Speaking of Patton, him and Patton went together like a moth to a flame. They hit it off day one and have acted like the best of friends since, and it makes Roman extremely happy
Roman and the others also became closer friends because of a Digital Media project Roman did about the different programs around the school. Since all his friends are from different programs, he interviewed them all, and it was the most fun project ever because of everything they did behind the scenes
They mostly just goofed off when not on camera. It was lovely
He refused to let Remus take part in that project though. RIP to Remus
Patton’s program: Cosmotology
Patton’s biggest dream is to mostly help people feel better about themselves. He wants to make people feel happy and learn a little more self love, because nothing makes Patton happier than seeing other people enjoying themselves
He’s also an extremely sociable person, so a need to help people like who they are mixed with lots of talking? Without getting a master’s in psychology? A perfect mix to become a hair stylist!
He loves all the different styles you can do and how different everyone’s hair can be from another person’s. The program also has you learn stuff about makeup, and he loves putting makeup on people as well. He practices on the girls in the program a lot, and they always get so excited when they see the finished product. It fills him with happy butterflies
He doesn’t tend to wear makeup on himself, though. Not because he thinks boys can’t wear makeup, he just hates the feeling of it on his skin. Hence why he will take any willing participant to be his canvas
His extroverted energy also shows a lot in his academic classes. The first day of English, he immediately turned around and started talking to the kid with a camera
It took him a little longer to get the boy sitting next to him to talk to him though. Apparently “We have the same glasses!” Isn’t an acceptable conversation starter
He did, however, get the kid named Virgil to agree to let Patton to put makeup on him. Patton started that conversation by asking about his eyeshadow, but nope, apparently those were just eyebags
Though Virgil still liked makeup anyway, so score, Patton still got what he wanted
Now if only he could get Logan to laugh out loud and cut the serious act. Then he’d be a winner for sure
Logan: Mechatronics
Logan’s a nerd. A huge nerd. Hence why he fits in with the mechatronics program so well
Logan has always loved robots and tinkering with technology. More than anything, he wants to work on space aircrafts as a mechanical engineer, hence why he’s in the mechatronics program
He also has ADHD and his biggest hyperfixations are in robots and space, so he’s completely in his element. It’s nice to spend most of his day in a class where he can talk about spacecrafts and how they worked, and not only will people listen, but they’ll also care about it almost as much as he does
Though, he’d prefer to keep his closet full of robotic kids toys he keeps breaking apart and fixing again to himself. At least for now
Though because he’s in mechatronics, he’s required to be in all advanced classes for his academics to get college credit. Which he doesn’t mind at all, but in his college English class, he definitely sits next to quite...the eclectic bunch
He acts like they inconvenience him, but he actually enjoys their company. Even if Roman can be a little loud, but him and Roman actually hit it off quite well with their debates and frequent conversation jumping
(It’s the ADHD-autism solidarity)
Logan also has quite the liking to Virgil, mostly because they’re both looking into the engineering business and have similar interests with space
Logan pretends like Patton annoys him, but he’s not very good at it. He hates that Patton knows he has a secret love for puns and keeps using it against him to try and make him laugh. How dare he
(Patton just keeps trying because he knows Logan likes it and he’s also a bit of a little shit)
Logan hopes that all three of them consider him one of their closest friends as well. Because actually, now he has more to look forward to in his English class than just the poetry and seeking for alternate meanings for things in text
Now, most of his entertainment comes from saying “Romeo and Juliet is an awful love story” and seeing Roman go off an a rant about how it’s not even a lOVE STORY it’s about THE GENERATION DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PARENTS AND KIDS and it’s STRUGGLES, CALCULATOR WATCH-
...It’s quite amusing
Virgil’s Program: Aviation
Anxiety is fight or flight. Well...Virgil literally just wants to take flight
His dad used to take Virgil out on vacations quite often when he was younger and his dad’s job was more focused on traveling, so Virgil has flown in planes a lot. He’s always been an anxious kid, always afraid of so many things, but for some reason...flying was one of the things to calm him the most
Except for going through security, fuck airport security
But still, there was never anything more satisfying than looking through the window on a plane. He’s always loved it, and he’s known since a very young age that he wants to learn to fly things, even if he decides not to become a pilot
He’s seventeen now and still wants to be a pilot, even if his shyness has turned into an anxiety disorder. It’s been a while since he’s been on a plane since his dad is now a psychologist, but he still loves it and misses it almost. So when he heard his district’s tech school had an aviation program, he signed up so fast
His teacher has to practically pry him away from messing with the drones and planes when they need to do other stuff, it’s kinda funny
It’s also great that he met Logan in his English class, because Logan loves engineering and aircrafts like Virgil does. One of Virgil’s backup plans is to be an aerospace engineer, so their conversations are always fun
He also has no idea how Patton figured out his secret love of makeup but now he’s being used as a canvas, apparently
Plus, Roman asked if Virgil could fly a drone for him to get an aerial shot for some digital media projects, so holy shit Virgil made three friends in one day when he’s been trying to make one friend for YEARS
He just bursts into his house like “DAD GUESS WHAT I MADE F R I E N D S”
His Dad is very proud but also very concerned
Virgil just ignores that though and sends memes to the new group chat with all four of them in it
Remus’ Program: Auto Collision Technology
Remus loves broken stuff. Especially big broken things, like cars
Of course, there’s no job for purposely wrecking stuff, but looking at damage in cars and how to repair it is exciting enough for him. His parents are just happy he found something to put more...positive energy into, instead of always causing trouble and getting popular for being “the bad boy”
He had lots of friends at his home school, lots of which he still talks to, mostly because his chaotic energy entertains a lot of people willing to deal with it. He has that same effect at the tech school, but the one person he’s never been able to get more on his side is his own brother
Remus has always been a bit too chaotic for Roman’s liking, and he knows that Roman wanted to go to the tech school for a fresh start. But Remus won’t stop himself just to make his brother happy, so it Roman’s salty about Remus doing something good for himself, then so be it
(Remus is a little salty about Roman being salty, but they’re brothers, what do you expect)
But Remus doesn’t need him anyway! Twin brothers are overrated! He’s got plenty of other people in his programs!
But his closest friend he’s gotten since coming to the tech school? Janus. Him and Janus go together like two chaotic peas in a pod, even if Janus has a whole lot more braincells than Remus ever will
Though, Remus has never had more fun with a friend than with Janus. He’s had lots of friends that come and go once they’re bored of him, but Janus feels real. He feels genuine, and Remus...really doesn’t wanna get rid of that
He likes Janus a lot, hence why he invites Janus over and lets Janus into his super secret eating spot he goes when he doesn’t wanna act like a crackhead at lunch. It’s actually quite nice
Roman just has to deal with the fact that, if he’s gonna be a salty bastard, then Janus is his new ride or die
(Please someone help these twins they’re saltier than the Dead Sea)
Janus’ Program: Firefighting Technology
When Janus was a young teen, he got trapped in a house fire that scarred the left half of his body. Firefighters were the ones that saved him, and since then, he’s always had a huge respect for them. Enough so to really want to become a firefighter
He’s always been very focused on self care and secretly very empathetic, so that mixed with past experience from being saved from such a dangerous event actually makes him a great candidate for a firefighter. He’s not one giant on talking, but he’s still good with teamwork when others want him to work with them
He has a good set of friends in his program, but his best friend was someone he met during lunch when trying to get away from the noise of the actual cafeteria. He also noticed that same kid was also in his anatomy class, so...destiny, I guess?
Remus can definitely be an eclectic person, but Janus secretly thrives on a good set of chaos. It makes life interesting, and Remus can definitely be described as interesting
He’s also the only person Janus has met that thinks Janus’ scars are cool as hell, so double win
It’s also immensely entertaining to join Remus on his quests to constantly annoy his brother. If he had a brother he’d probably do the same, honestly
Mostly, he’s just here for the chaotic ride. He gets to be a sarcastic bastard with a secret love for the dramatic flair and somehow make friends at the same time
He still needs to find a way to get under Patton’s skin, though. Patton never gets bothered by Janus, but that’s probably because Patton has known Janus as his neighbor for literal years
Damn him. Janus will get him some time
Though for right now, Remus gets most of the wins of weirding out Patton. That is, until Roman shrieks and chases them both off
Yup. Janus chose a good best friend. Even if he’s a chaotic, salty bastard

Hey!! I was wondering if you could tell me more about the twins? Like what their history is, Romans ADHD and how that effects him, their dynamics with each other, anything really! Also does Remus canonly have autism in this au? I'd love to know! This au is already one of my favorites!! Can't wait to see what you do next! -🐏 (i know im gonna send in lots of asks in the future, so I'll use a ram as my signoff)
Of course! I’d be happy to!
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
Roman and Remus have been in Foster Care since they were infants. Having to transfer homes quite often due to how difficult it became to take care of both boy’s needs along with the other kids in their care.
Remus would get extremely antsy whenever they had to move to a new placement, causing him to go into meltdown mode, and often use mildly harmful stims since he couldn’t voice his thoughts. These usually included hitting his fists against his head or banging his head against a wall/seat. Around the time he turned 6 years old Foster Parent’s started questioning whether he was autistic or not, but never got him fully tested.
Roman however, was diagnosed with ADHD when he was about 4 years old. He was very loud, couldn’t sit still for longer than a minute, and seemed to always demand to be the center of attention according to previous Foster Parent’s.
Roman’s ADHD tends to effect him more than he’d like to admit. Emile has helped him figure out a few skills to help though since he’s been with him. When he’s at school he tends to blurt out answers and is very loud, not understanding just how loud he’s being. He seems to run on endless energy throughout the day, constantly interrupting others, just wanting to be heard. He doesn’t have a lot of friends because they think he’s just doing it for attention, and bully him when he gets extremely excited about different Disney movies, bouncing, grinning, and laughing, often begging Emile to wear his prince outfit to school when he gets this excited. Which Emile will eagerly encourage, glad to see him so happy and free. But people at school often call him a baby or stupid for dressing up, and more often then not the school will call Emile about an inconsolable Roman, who he then picks up, and emotionally crashes pretty hard soon after, where Emile will carry him to his room to nap till his siblings returned home. Roman also tends to flap his hands when overly excited, or squeal randomly.
Roman and Remus are close, but only interact one on one on rare occasions since Roman tends to be super loud, which upsets Remus, who will run off to Deceit’s room, making distressed noises. Deceit will usually let Remus sit in his lap and rock himself until he’s calmer, then they’ll color, or he’ll try to tell him a story. Deceit has grown to dislike Roman for his loudness, and is extremely protective of Remus, quick to try and shush the louder twin when he notices him being too loud.
And yes, Remus does canonly have autism in this AU! They just don’t have an official diagnosis from a doctor!
Thanks for the questions and I can’t wait for more! Send as many as you’d like! I love getting questions!

Misunderstandings and Chocolate
Patton was standing across the table from the three boys sitting down. They all looked nervous, especially as they had all gotten a text after school saying that they were going to have a talk. Patton had a file in his hands and was looking oddly serious. Logan had his hand intertwined with the other's, his gaze firm.
"We have decided that we are going to adopt. It will be happening over the next few weeks." Logan gestured to the pile, frowning a little when their fosters seemed to deflate on themselves. He would have thought they would have been excited, given everything. They had recently bought them all new clothes and even a bunk bed for the twins.
Janus- the oldest, looked over at his foster siblings and gently squeezed their hands. They knew this was coming. He was a compulsive liar, Remus had severe intrusive thoughts and ADHD, and Roman had autism. In true honesty, he was surprised they lasted this long. He looked up at the two and nodded, trying to keep his voice steady as he spoke. "Will we be allowed to take our clothes, Mr. Sanders?"
Roman was looking like he was about to cry, and was rocking back and forth. Had he been too loud? Stimmed too much? He was sorry he couldn't talk quietly, he really tried. He really really tried. He wanted to chew on the microphone shaped stim toy he kept around his neck but bit his lip instead. Maybe he could... could do something. He didn't know what a seven year old could do. Maybe he could go to his room? Hide under the bed? He'd be out of the way and they wouldn't have to be near him. He could chew there...
"This is bullshit! You- you can't-" Remus was far more open about his stims and was flapping his hands angrily. There were tears building up in his eyes and he fought to stiffle a sob. "They're gonna separate us again and- you promised! Liar!" He pushed himself up from the table and ran to the bathroom, slamming it behind him. His and Roman's room didn't have locks after a match incident. There were still scorch marks on the wall, carefully hidden behind various posters.
"What- kiddo, no. Oh god, no, come here." Patton stood up and walked over to Janus, kneeling before him. The tween was crying out of his right eye, but still had a stony face. He raised his hand slow enough that the other could track it before cupping his blind and burned side. He was partially deaf as well, and just the previous night they had talked about a implant or a hearing aid. "It's alright, kiddo. I shouldn't have surprised you like that. You three are the ones we are adopting."
Roman's head jerked up at that and he moved to look over at Patton. His fingers were digging into his sweater and he swallowed thickly. What... what was he talking about? He had just said that he was adopting but no one wanted them. Not permanently. His soft noises caught Patton's attention and he gave him a little smile.
"Let's go to the cuddle piles, kiddo, and I'll explain everything. Logan is going to go talk to Remus and bring him down in a bit, okay?"
"Okay..."
-
Logan had walked upstairs and followed the dirty footsteps to the locked bathroom. He sat down outside of it and placed his head against it with a soft thump. "Remus? Can you hear me?" The other occasionally went nonverbal, but as long as he could hear him that was what mattered. He could hear soft sobs coming from behind it and sighed. "Can you unlock the door, please? I won't come in, but I would feel a lot more comfortable knowing you are safe."
A few minutes of silence passed before the sound of a lock twisting could be heard, along with a quiet thump as a little body slid against the door. "'M sorry." A small, sad voice said. Remus was obviously still crying, or had just stopped as evidenced by his hiccups. "Gonna... gonna get my shit and-" He hiccuped again. "Can I take my di-sec-tion kit, please?" He had to carefully pronounce the term, but still stumbled some.
"No, Remus. You cannot take your kit, because you are not going anywhere. We should not have surprised you all with the news, and we apologize for that." He sighed softly and closed his eyes. "We are adopting all three of you. Forever. If you want to take our last name we would love you too." Remus must be in a tailspin right now. "Can I please come in, Remus?"
Remus sniffled but nodded and reached up to open the door a crack. He fled to the tub as soon as permission was granted and closed the shower curtain. It had a swamp on it, with frogs and a prince. He liked frogs. He took the fabric and began to stroke against it, the rough fabric helping to soothe him further. He could hear Logan moving in and flinched. The tub was usually his safe space, but he had been really bad. He had cursed, slammed doors, and called them a liar. Why would they want him after that? Maybe they won't give him back to the pink lady. Just leave him in a swamp or in the road somewhere. A car might hit him, or he might get eaten. He read about huge snakes that could squeeze and squeeze till his lungs couldn't move. At least it was a type of hug. The pink lady never hugged him. She just shoved him off.
"Thank you, little monster." Logan sat on the ground next to the tub but made no move to open it. Remus was obviously still processing and needed a quiet space. "Your brothers are downstairs right now, probably getting told the same thing right now. We are not surrendering you. Not now, and not ever. We have offically submitted the paperwork to adopt all of you. Forever." He emphasized the last bit with an arched brow.
"'M sorry." Remus whispered. He had raised his head from his knees to speak. His eyes were red from his crying and the constant rubbing. "Dunno why you wan' me. 'M just dir'y and bad." His voice was still quiet and hoarse from the scream earlier. He bit his lip hard and tugged on his hair. "Ro-Ro's the good one. Jany too. 'serves you and Pat-Pat." He had often taken the brunt of the abuse in the system, as he had made himself a target to protect his brother. It had warped his view of himself in ways they were just starting to discover. "...why're you keepin' us?"
Logan didn't even have to think about what he was going to say next. "Because we love you. All of you. Yes, there will be challenges, and yes, we all may become frustrated, but no matter what you are our boys. We are forever happy with you, little monster. With all of you." He smiled softly as the shower curtain peeked open and revealed a tear covered, messy haired little boy. The white tuff stuck out like a sore thumb. "There you are!" He cooed softly. "May I come into the tub, Remus?"
The response was a short nod and the sight of Remus scooting back to give him room. He climbed into the tub awkwardly and crossed his legs a little. "Would you like me to hold you, Remus? I won't touch you if you are not okay with it right now." Him and Roman were both prone to sensory over and understimulation and touch sensitivity.
...but apparently that wasn't the case now. Remus launched himself into his lap and wrapped his arms around Logan's neck tightly and sobbed. He just sat there and sobbed as Logan cooed and rubbed soft circles in his back. "Shh, shh, there we go... It's okay, little monster. Lo-Lo won't let you go."
They sat just like that for almost twenty minutes. The crying had slowly faded out into sniffles, then silence. "You're really gonna do it? 'Dopt me? Won't get the money anymore." He seemingly tried to warn Logan of the consequences of adopting him. "'M tryin' to be better. P'omise." He recieved a kiss on his forehead from the elder and was gently rocked. "You just need to be you, Remus. Whoever you grow up to be will be absolutely perfect."
Remus sniffled once more then raised his head. He had a bloody lip from biting it and a bruise forming on his temple from hitting himself. "Can we go dow'stairs?" He asked hoarsely. He raised his hands in a silent request to be picked up and carried. When they reached it he tensed, looking around. Roman and Janus were both in the cuddle corner with two cups of Patty's special hot chocolate. It was a little spicy and had fancy shit in it. There were two cups on the table- one in Lo-Lo's mug and one for him.
Maybe... maybe it would turn out okay. Maybe.
(But as he took the cup and sat down with the others in the cuddle corner, he knew it would be.)

Characters marked with a * are referred to as they are in the verse I made with @littleblackqrow in regards to his background, and with @hvithale in regards to the synesthesia ability (rights to it are respectfully hers). If another mun who plays with these muses wants to RP with me in the Dresden Verse, I'll be happy to adjust and fix what HC's are there to suit the new mun and their personal interpretation of the muse within that verse. Have no fear, I force headcanons on no man or entity.
Until Bartholomew Oobleck came into his magic at the age of thirteen, Barty was an unusual, precocious child. Initially expected to be mostly non-verbal and diagnosed with autism, he began to speak in full sentences at the age of three and advanced past his academic level rapidly. He was wont to ask questions and get into trouble, and his parents made efforts to curb his hyperactivity with sports and classes to wear him down.
A more accurate diagnosis was made when he was nine, with ADHD, low spectrum autism, and synesthesia. Barty reportedly 'saw things' all his life, and in art class and occasionally in creative writing or when he'd speak to his parents they pieced together he could see things that others couldn't. Without a reasonable explanation, the doctor supposed it was a type of auditory synesthesia.
Bart was subject to his share of bullying as a child. When he was thirteen and trying to avoid being caught by a particularly nasty group in Edinburgh a gust of wind pushed on him hard, sending him sailing well out of reach. Stumbling and knowing they could still catch him up, and panicking over the freak occurrence in the weather, he ducked into a side shop. No one noticed him come in, and even when the bullies had looked in the windows they hadn't seen him clearly there among the racks of clothes.
He didn't know yet how, but he'd managed to turn himself invisible. After the bullies had moved on he'd been left unsure of what to do and in a state of minor panic, especially as the blurry colours of his synesthesia had seemed to get far brighter than they'd ever been.
After the incident he hid at the house, nervous to be around people and afraid he was the cause of all the shorted out light bulbs. Approaching him generally resulted in magical misfires (and a few real fires).
While his parents were mundane, his mother recognized magic when she saw it. At first she thought about trying to help him hide it, let it fade out. Her mother had never trusted the White Council, after all, but Bart seemed to have more talent than she'd had. After some deliberation, she had her husband call in their family friend, Ozpin*.
Rather than sending a lower level wizard to look at Barty, Ozpin himself came to assess his magical talent himself after hearing a bit about him. He found Bart to have a good deal of raw talent and power within him, as well as an unusual and rare gift he'd seen only a few times before. Barty's synesthesia was in fact the reflection of seeing magic present in day to day life, wispy and out of focus, and weaker than his Wizard's Sight would be. Knowing Barty was at risk for driving himself mad using it, and from there becoming a Warlock, he took him directly into his care and apprenticeship from his parents estate.
Barty was trained and schooled under the watch of the White Council. He grew up around Wizards and their dealings, excelled in his academics and began to get control over his synesthesia, though it was a struggle. When he was old enough he equated it to being made to walk around without his glasses in his hand, and being forbidden to put them on.
When he was fifteen he met the Branwen Twins*. Not much was known about them, other than the fact he knew Ozpin had fought to take them on as apprentices and argued with the Wardens over them. Both of them spoke strangely, edging on riddles, and were next to feral. Excited to have friends, though, Bart had done his best to gain their friendship. Eventually the three were inseparable.
Bart graduated high school several years early and went on to post secondary at the University of Edinburgh. He took archaeology and history with the intent of working eventually in an archival position within the White Council once he was of age, and in the mean time work as a professor once he'd received his doctorate. When Qrow and Raven had moved to the states he decided to move over with them, landing a job at Harvard, which was within an easy train ride to his friends. The job went more or less smoothly and he helped Qrow out with his duties as they came.
Everything came to a head when he was applying for tenure. While he'd grown capable of resisting his synesthesia and keeping his name out of the potentially reputation damning tabloids, during a black tie fundraising event he'd spotted something wrong moving in the gallery. Without his Sight he only had the inkling that something was evil, shifting the energy around. Just being near made his stomach twist.
He'd lifted his Sight to get a look at it and formulate a plan when he was confronted with a person possessed by an Outsider. He'd had no choice but to act, even without his things, and the scene caused had been devastating. Blame thoroughly placed upon him after it had gotten away, and struggling with panic attacks over what he'd seen, Bart had been placed into psychiatric evaluation, where he'd remained until Ozpin was able to take him out.
His disgrace at Harvard left a stain on his reputation and blacklisted him from much of academia. He eventually resigned himself to a low position teaching basic history in a community college and began to devoting more time to his spellcraft and helping Qrow travel and take out potential threats.
Bart has several specializations in magic, particularly thaumatergy and kinetomancy. He also has a talent for shielding and fire magic, and thanks to the nature of his Sight has a near eidetic memory for most things. He is the walking Cliff Notes for anything he's studied before.
He has also only Soul Gazed with a handful of people - his mother, accidentally, after his powers had unlocked, Ozpin, and the twins.

hiii!! I started writing a sci-fi novel, and I'm posting it on wattpad. link is on my blog if anyone's interested. anyway it's so exciting!!!! one of the main characters have adhd+autism, another is schizophrenic, a third is black and nonbinary, fourth and fifth are twins with a far from perfect relationship... i feel like im getting the diversity thing and interesting characters right. there's also an asshole who dresses like a pirate. it's fun!
Wait you’re writing a novel?! That’s so fucking cool and that sounds like a really interesting and diverse cast. If anyone’s looking for something to read, please go give this story some love! I might check it out myself cause while I usually really struggle to read longer texts, I’ve had some success reading fanfics lately so I might actually be able to give it a shot! Can’t promise that my brain will actually cooperate - but I will make sure to let you know what I think if I succeed!
