ADHD (c)PTSD culture is being highly sensitive to any form of rejection or betrayal in others due to being made brutally self-conscious about my self-expression and personality in life, and so naturally hyperfixating on traumatised, abused and mentally ill characters (whether similar or not to your own trauma and not always without realising) and feeling extremely overprotective, attached and passionate about them and their treatment regardless of their hero or villain status

my heart goes out to you if you're a disabled person who has a complicated or negative relationship with sleep. if you need to sleep a lot but can't due to life circumstances, or sleeping extra causing other symptoms to flare up. if you can't sleep enough due to pain, or nightmares, or psychosis, or bipolar, or depression. if you sleep way too much and find it hard to stay awake. if you can't fall or stay asleep. if you need medication in order to be able to sleep. if you don't feel rested from sleep. if you wake up a lot in the night. if you have bladder or bowel accidents while asleep. if you twitch or convulse or move too or get injured in your sleep. if you can't control your sleep schedule no matter what. if you can't sleep during "normal" sleeping hours. if you can't sleep for 8+ hours straight but can sleep for shorter amounts of time. if sleep is what you need but for one reason or another you just can't or refuse to do it.
i care about you. your disabilities deserve to be seen and acknowledged

questioning schizospec culture is wondering if you have signs of schizophrenia/schizoaffective or if it's just autism/adhd/c-ptsd, then remembering that it's possible you could have all four of them

I cannot say this enough but I truly genuinely with my entire heart and soul despise this whole culture of "do it everyday uwu" draw a picture every single day write a prompt every single day do this diet every single day LOOK MY GUY WE ARE DESPERATE FOR THE ART OF DISCIPLINE BECAUSE IT LOOKS GOOD ON PAPER BUT THE REALITY IS THAT NO ONE SHOULD EXPECT TO BE DOING SOMETHING EVERY SINGLE DAY WITHOUT A BREAK FROM THE MONOTONY AND ROUTINE. And why does this bother me- oh because then it becomes shame and you beat yourself up when you INEVITABLY MISS A FUCKING DAY AND FUCK UP THE ROUTINE!!! OH MY GOD YOU DIDNT DRAW A PICTURE TODAY??? YOU FUCKED UP YOUR DIET??? YOU DIDNT DO THAT CHORE OR HOUSEWORK TODAY??? WHAT KIND OF HORRIBLE MONSTER ARE YOU???? It's not the fact that you didn't draw the fucking picture, it's the fact that NOBODY IS THERE TO TELL YOU YOU DONT NEED TO PROVE YOURSELF SO HARD FOR NO GODDAMN REASON. WHO TOLD YOU THAT??? WHO TOLD YOU THAT THE ONLY WAY TO PROVE YOUR WORTH AS A HUMAN BEING IS TO EXUDE THIS FALSE SENSE OF DUTY AND GRANDEUR TO A LIFESTYLE THAT DOESNT FIT YOUR NORM OR ISNT FLEXIBLE AND LEAVES NO ROOM FOR YOU TO BREATHE AND BE HUMAN AND MAKE MISTAKES AND GET IT WRONG AND EVEN *gasp* DARE I SAY IT, QUIT WHEN YOU NEED TO QUIT???? Nobody should live like this!!!! My God BREATHE FOR FUCKS SAKE

a poem i wrote as part of my final project
content warning: ableism, uncomfy childhood experiences, implied self-harm, implied suicidal ideation, implied eating disorder
Was it easier for you?
when i was rejected from a preschool because i stuttered because my thoughts moved faster than i could speak them
when i learned to read when i was two years old and memorized the alphabet forwards and backwards before most other kids knew it at all
when i memorized birthdays off the chart on the wall instead of paying attention to the five hundredth lesson on letters and numbers
was it not obvious?
or was it easier to believe i was just a gifted kid?
when i fell behind again and again and again when we learned subtraction and multiplication and long division
when i learned every breed of dog i could and memorized their characteristics and identified them all on the street or in pictures
when my third grade desk became such a disaster that i needed a new pencil every other day and my homework got lost in the piles of papers
was it not obvious?
or was it easier to believe i was just unmotivated?
when i excelled in my classwork but my homework often went missing
when i stared into space for full classes at a time
when my locker was such a mess that books and binders spilled out onto the floor every time i opened it
was it not obvious?
or was it easier to believe i was just lazy?
when i got through middle school with only one good friend
when i stayed home from the school dance
when i didn’t know the difference between a friend and a bully and i let myself fall into the trap again and again
was it not obvious?
or was it easier to believe i was just an introvert?
when my voice cracked while arguing about the simplest topics
when a warning from a teacher was enough to send me spiraling all week
when a split from a friend made me question if i deserved to eat, to be happy, to live
was it not obvious?
or was it easier to believe i was just being dramatic?
when I proposed an ADHD evaluation to my therapist and my parents the summer after seventh grade
when my mom came into my room with a paper saying I had ADHD and generalized anxiety disorder
when I was prescribed vyvanse for the first time and i felt the fog clear from my head
Hadn’t it been obvious?
Or was it easier to believe I would just grow out of it?
When I researched coping strategies instead of wondering if I was a burden on everyone
When my grades shot upwards and I finished eighth grade, then ninth, with high honors
When I told my elementary school teachers about my diagnosis, and was met with a chorus of “we could tell” “we always knew” “that isn’t a surprise at all”
It was obvious that my struggles were due to a chemical imbalance in my brain.
Was it easier on you to let me believe I was just unmotivated, lazy, introverted, disorganized, dramatic, burdensome?

Can we un-normalize that stress at work is part of the work and if you are having panic attacks and stressing too much it's problem with you and not with the society we live in

ND Culture is being annoyed when you use the term Nurodivergent and they automatically assume it's ADHD, Autism, or both and ignoring things like Migraines, Epilepsy, Tic disorders, Anxiety, PTSD, Cluster A and Cluster B, and Literally Everything Else under the ND Umbrella.
(Like just because I have Autism and ADHD does not mean that that is the only thing I am referring to when I say ND)

Plural culture is just vibing and then seeing a singlet explain why you shouldnt self diagnose being a system and you just having. To sit there like. 'Bitch what I am I gonna do, pretend my alters dont exist? I tried that once and it was beyond detrimental to my mental health'
SINGLETS. PLEASE. GOOD GOD. Yes being professionally diagnosed is better than self dxing BUT 1. I HAVE MET SYSTEMS WHO HAVE TRIED TO BE DXED AND TURNED DOWN and 2. not being professionally dxed doesnt magically make your symptoms not impact your life until you are. Omfg.
A diagnosis is an *explanation* and something you can use to get accommodations, its not something that gives you the disorder fucking hell
Ppl in general just need to understand a diagnosis doesn't mean you start having something, it means you've had it the whole time.
And a lot of ppl DO notice their symptoms first. In fact, with ALL of our mental disorders (depression, anxiety, PTSD, paranoid personality disorder, ADHD, autism) we had ti self diagnosis first!!
We had to bring up that we thought we might have something, and want to figure out if we're right or not and then figure stuff out from there!
And ya know what, if you're wrong the worst that would happen is a therapist can help you figure out what it really is, and then you get help with that!
Also diagnosis can be expensive! Or unavailable! Or the only ppl you can afford/reach don't believe in your disorder, or aren't educated enough on it, or any other reason and then someone can't get a diagnosis!!
Self diagnosis means you recognize something isn't normal, and you can find ways to make you function in a way that benefits you.

Was thinkin' bout how Hiccup Haddock and Percy Jackson hold up big time as childhood fave male protagonists while Harry Potter and Danny Fenton keep digging their own graves the more i remember about them and then realized that Harry and Danny were intentionally written as 'ordinary teenage boys' while Hiccup and Percy were written as disabled(Hiccup's health problems and his prosthetic + Percy's adhd dyslexia and implied ptsd)and not traditionally masculine(Hiccup because he dosen't live up to his cultures ideas of manhood and Percy deliberately acting not like a stereotypical guy because he thinks those are gross and weird).Yeah that'll do it

shoutout to disabled people who are too sick to take care of their teeth. here's to you if you have to get frequent fillings, root canals, teeth extracted, implants, or dentures because taking care of your teeth is to difficult or impossible with your disabilities. here's to you if you forget to brush, can't afford tooth brushes, toothpaste, mouth wash, etc., if you are or have been homeless and struggled to access dental care, if you're too poor or don't have insurance to see the dentist, if you dissociate, if you are psychotic and don't trust dentists, if your chronic fatigue prevents you from daily maintenance, or whatever it is that holds you back, shoutout to you.
dental care is a nightmare to keep up with given the amount of sugars, acids and harmful additives that are put into just about everything in our modern diet. many of the sugars and acids alone damage our teeth in substantial ways that are difficult to keep up with even if you are abled, let alone the cost, time and transportation it takes to get access to dentistry. if you have to get teeth extracted or replaced, you are not failing. that is also part of your care. you are still doing your best.

To all the people saying “if you think cripplepunk is only for physically disabled people, you’re a MERD, just like terfs!” I have a couple points for you.
1) I am literally trans so comparing me to people, some of whom want me dead and the rest of which don’t see me as a guy due to extreme prejudice is kinda, y’know, upsetting.
2) Cripplepunk is for and by physically disabled people to have a space to exist without being gawked at and actually be heard rather than just getting talked over, sometimes literally. It’s like how there’s lesbian bars, it’s so lesbians and other saffic people can have a place to exist without having to deal with the rest of society, a lot of which tends to either hate or fetishize them. Or how there’s BIPOC only spaces, so people of colour can exist without the fear of discrimination and violence that exists in everyday society and embrace their cultures.
3) Self-definition is a very important difference in this situation. Terfs are upset that trans women are in women’s spaces because they don’t see them as the women they are. In Cpunk, you can make that definition for yourself. If you view yourself as physically disabled, it’s nobody’s business what the specifics are if you want to be involved in cpunk. If you are physically disabled, you can call yourself a cripple. You don’t need to prove it with a specific diagnosis, many of us don’t have those anyways, and anyone who says that is an ass who I’ve been lucky enough not to meet. The issue that comes up is when people who specifically DON’T consider themselves physically disabled attempt to get involved in something that is only for physically disabled people. You can’t be CripplePunk if you’re not a cripple. It’s like if a man who said he was a man and didn’t want to live as or be viewed as anything but male was trying to get into those women’s spaces.
4) Not all physically disabled people are mentally abled. I personally have diagnosed ADHD, GAD, Depression and am currently working towards getting an autism assessment.
5) I would not be cripplepunk if I only had those, because those do not make /me/ PHYSICALLY disabled, those do not make me crippled. If they impacted my physical ability to move/function then they would, but they don’t. My legs not working right make me crippled. My feet being shaped so wrong they fuck up why whole legs make me crippled. The constant physical pain I’m in makes me crippled. My knock knees make me crippled. My body makes me crippled, not my mind.
My mind makes my life harder. We aren’t saying that you can’t be disabled if it’s not physical, you just can’t be crippled if it’s not physical. You are still part of the disabled community and we harbour no ill will towards mentally disabled people. We just have some struggles that you don’t so we experience the ableism that we fight against differently.
Before I knew that my physical stuff was a disability and not normal, before I used my mobility aids, I faced ableism. But it was different. I’d have teachers fuck me over by refusing my accommodations I needed due to my ADHD, get sent into panic attacks due to people purposefully triggering my anxiety and ptsd, and people called me stupid and a crybaby all the goddamn time. It sucks to face ableism for mental disabilities, we aren’t saying it doesn’t, but it’s different.
When I got my cane, the first day I had it at school one of my able-bodied friends pointed at me and laughed and called me a cripple. Him having ADHD doesn’t make that any less horrible. My teacher asked me if my cane was for a cosplay and then accused me of faking my disability. She then compared my life long chronic pain to her breaking her leg when she was little when she got called out in an attempt to make her seem less ableist. I’ve had people move me and touch me without consent like I have no opinion on my own body, no choice. People constantly ask me intrusive medical questions. I’ve had someone threaten to kill me because of my physical disability. I get stared at like a zoo animal when I leave the house, every single time. I’ve had my cane kicked out from under me, I’ve been called a cripple so many times I’ve lost count. I’ve had so many people demanding to know “what happened” and refusing to take no as an answer. I’ve had someone say to my face that physically disabled people are less important than able bodied people and the able bodied deserve to live more. This is only a fraction of the ableism disabled people face. These are only my experiences, and not even all of them.
These things are so different from the ableism I face for my mental disabilities, and that’s just my experiences, there’s so much more that physically and mentally disabled people face. But it’s different. And us physically disabled people need a space where we can talk about the bullshit we deal with and fight to change it without it being sidetracked to something it’s not.
Cripplepunk is for Cripples only. End of fucking story.

adhd culture is remembering to support and root for everyone else living under the vast neurodivergent umbrella! this is for you asd, tourrettes, ocd, epileptic, ptsd, the intellectually disabled folk and more!
our experiences are endless and diverse, but we all live in the same world and someone has gotta make sure it’s built for each and every one of us.
never forget, umbrella terms are for shielding all of us from the rain.

If all medical diagnoses were as hazily defined and had as little differentiation from one another as neuro-psychiatric diagnoses are, doctors would be of no use to anyone. How many of your symptoms of "ADHD" or "autism" might be just as well or better explained as an expression of "complex PTSD" or "dissociative disorder" or "generalized anxiety disorder" or "bipolar disorder"? Which diagnosis you receive has more to do with the cultural conventions for how to define psychosocial distress or challenges at any given time than it does with a proper scientific method.
