This might be a very niche take but I think we should take people's reasons for learning a language in mind when suggesting how they go about it
I've seen people in a lot of Japanese learning communities tell other to never watch fantasy anime (or anime at all sometimes) or read anything that's not slice-of-life or actual literature because "people in real life don't speak like that"
And while, yes, that's true, native Japanese speakers do not generally speak like anime characters, uhhhh... The probability of me watching a fantasy anime in the course of a month is significantly higher than the probability of me going to Japan in the next five years. So understanding anime character speech is in fact more relevant to me than, idk, business lingo
And, I don't think that's a bad thing personally? Learning a language because you want to better understand content you find fun is just as good a reason as learning it to live in the country where the language is spoken, and it's fine and reasonable to adjust your learning strategies according to your personal goals

”Failing doesn’t mean you have to quit”- Tips from a university student with ADHD📚
So I’ve been in uni for like….*squints at calendar* almost 5 years, (yikes) and in that time I’ve learned the value of failing.
More specificly I failed a lot of tests, handed in a bunch of assignments late and what I learned from these experiences is that failing an exam…or several of them, is not the end of the world and perhaps more importantly not the end of your plans for the future. I was convinced at several points during these years that because I failed an exam or even a whole course, it would be the end of my academic future and possibly career. I never thought I’d ever graduate but here I am five years later with a bachelor’s degree and now on my way to a master’s.
Failing doesn’t mean you have to quit what you’re doing or give up on your dreams.
It just means you have to get up and try again and if it’s one thing people with ADHD are good at it’s trying. We’re always trying to do better, improve our lives, and as long as you keep trying you’ve never truly failed.

being undiagnosed audhd and in school is so. fucking. draining. i obviously have no accommodations, i can’t just take a moment to myself without coming up with an excuse, i can’t just remove myself from a stressful situation, i have to mask all the time and all that stuff. but i think the worst part in terms of actual school is the homework and assignments.
because of my audhd i not only just take longer to get things done even if my full attention is on it, and if you pair that with the inattentive type adhd, well. that’s one hell of a problem. so i can never get an assignment that should take ten minutes done on time and it instead takes half an hour. an hour even. it’s sickening and exhausting and it makes me feel so damn incompetent because i’m always behind i’m always studying because it takes me so long and because studying takes so long for me even if i’m trying my best i either have to cut corners or stay up longer and sacrifice sleep, in turn reducing my energy to deal with sensory stimuli and conversation and focus on classwork in school the next day, meaning there’s more to catch up on and the cycle continues. why can’t i just do things as quickly as everyone else. why does my brain need so long to process and focus and produce an output. i hate it i hate it so much i hate it i hate it i hate it

hey folks! i wanted to to make a post about something ive been thinking about recently, how to responsibly manage a hyperfixation, to look after yourself
ive been thinking about this since i became hyperfixated on twilight, and found myself falling on old bad habits (staying up til 5 am, reading fanfic which worsens my ability to transition, idealising unhealthy relationships) and so i decided to stop watching and engaging with all forms of twilight
pro tip: dont do that
i felt lethargic and shitty. sure i was looking after my basic needs but i felt awful! and the second i spoke to anyone i started instantly rambling about twilight anyways!
so. heres where the moral of the story comes in
when you have a hyperfixation, dont suppress it, it wont go away
its important to still look after yourself when hyperfixating, switching to audio visual forms can help so you can carry it with you while making food/getting a drink - this is how you prevent feeling depressed and shitty
following the neurotypical type schedules arent for everyone! fluttering around to different things impulsively, or doing mainly one thing all day, and doing things at the wrong time is fine! as long as you are a) having fun and b) looking after yourself

Studyblr Intro Post™
I already had an intro post but I'm revamping this blog now so here we go again
About me:
- I'm a Latin American student in my second year of university, getting a Bachelor's degree in Animation
- I am an adult, queer, and use he/him pronouns, you can call me Icarus
- I have ADHD, which means that even though I'm formally studying Animation, I may be interested in 112 different things at any point in time
Blog stuff:
- Mostly chaotic academia shit, tips for studying with ADHD, photos of my journal and desk, and maybe rambling about topics I'm interested in
- Posts about my study schedule, classes, topics, grades, etc etc
- Maybe, maybe, I'll share some of the artwork I do for classes. Just maybe.
My interests:
- Art and animation, obviously. My main interest is in 2D game animation, but that might change as I progress through college
- Language learning. Currently, I can speak Portuguese (native), English (around C1/C2) and Japanese (B1)
- Biology! Mostly human biology, but biology in general fascinates me
- Music of any kind, good or bad, as long as I can vibe to it I'm in
- Journaling, planning, organization, stationery supplies, I love paper and anything you can do with it
- History is also a big interest of mine, but usually I'm more focused on niche topics like the life of a specific person or a particular time period of a specific country or culture, that kinda stuff
That's basically it, I just wanna interact with people in the studyblr community and share tips and photos and whatnot, studying is fun so I wanna share that fun with more people ^^

Ok I'm about to go buy ginseng pills because they apparently can help with adhd so I domt fail anymore classes and on top of that I'm gonna ask my mom to pretend to be my teacher
Giving me printed out versions of the assignments with he due dates reminding me of tests etc.
Because all that shit is online and my stupid ass adhd brian is like. Oh its online so it's not actually "real" because if it was jt would be giving to me physically.
And I've failed 2 classes because of it
Like bestie, before the pandemic all our homework and assignments and tests were given to us IN PAPER FORM. The ONLY TIME we ever did online assignments was if it was a kahoot, or we used our chromebooks to write essays. Then we'd go to the library to print out our essays to turn them in.
then all of the sudden the pandemic closes down schools and I'm thrown into a drowning sea of online schoolwork. And I get no say in it
👏YOU 👏CANNOT👏 JUST👏 EXPWCT👏 PEOPLE 👏TO 👏DO👏 ONLINE 👏SCHOOL👏 WITHOUT 👏GIVING 👏THEM 👏THE 👏CHOICE👏

Random writing tips that my history professor just told during class that are actually helpful
Download all your sources or print them so you can turn off your wifi
Give your phone to someone
Just. WRITE. Writing is analysing, you’ll get more ideas as you write. It doesn’t need to be perfect, for now you can just blurt out words and ideas randomly. You can fix it later.
Create a skeleton/structure before writing.
Stop before you get exhausted. It’s best to stop writing when you still have some energy and inspiration left, this will also motivate you to get started again next time.
Make a to do list
Work in bite sizes. Even if it’s not much, as long as you put some ideas on paper or do some editing.
Simple language =/= boring language, simple language = clear language.
Own your words. If they are not your words, state this clearly in the text, not just in the footnotes.
STOP BEFORE YOU GET EXHAUSTED. Listing it again because it’s easily one of the best tips a teacher has ever given me.

Me: how do I study as an autistic teen/adult
Google: study tips for autistic people(-written by this allistic man that will talk about autistic people like they're zoo animals)
Me: how to study as a neurodivergent adult, tips from neurodivergent person to neurodivergent students, on how to study independently as an autistic person, no reliant support needed
Google: high functioning autism and school
Me: fuck just. How do I focus during this test that I'm in rn as an AuDHD person
Google: ok, so, to focus on this thing that you currently are doing and need to get done TODAY; weeks before the test you'll need to eat healthy and exercise, meditate, study, set timers, take breaks, drink water, sleep, find the secrets to a happy life, adopt five children, sacrifice a goat, take short showers, brush your teeth
Executive dysfunction:
My fucking deadline:

my smart sister gave me advice
advice! for studying when you have time but feel overwhelmed, and like youre not making any progress!
pretend you have 3 hours to study for thing. thing is in 3 hours, and we're cramming. what things will you do that will cover as much as possible to feel prepared?
i often feel very discouraged when im studying at a good time, instead of last minute, because it feels like im not really getting anything done, the workload mountain lost a crumb. and the adrenaline and dopamine of completing things at the last minute, where youre getting a quarter of work done every hour, racing to the last minute, studying on time just cant compare.
howeverrrrrrr this lil life hack makes it so you get several last minutes worth of work done!!!
