What is Ekadashi (Gyaras)?
The eleventh date of the Hindu calendar is called Ekadashi. This date comes twice in a month One is full moon and the other is new moon. The Ekadashi that comes before the full moon is called the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha and the Ekadashi that comes after the new moon is called Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha. Both these types of Ekadashis have equally great importance in Hinduism.
Ekadashi Fasting Origin
There is a story in this context that when Lord Vishnu got tired while fighting with a demon named Mur, then he went to the cave in Badrikashram and started resting. Mur followed Lord Vishnu and reached Badrikashram. When the mur wanted to kill the sleeping god, then a goddess was born from the body of Lord Vishnu and this goddess killed the mur.
Pleased with the work of the Goddess, Lord Vishnu said that Goddess, you were born on the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Margashirsha month, hence your name will be Ekadashi. You will also be worshiped with me on every Ekadashi from today. The devotee who observes the Ekadashi fast will be free from sins.
Ekadashi Devi was incarnated on Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Margashirsha month, hence it has great importance in all Ekadashi. Ekadashi was manifested by the illusion of Goddess Vishnu. According to the scriptures, the person who observes the fast of Utpan Ekadashi with devotion, becomes free from the influence of illusion, the feeling of deceit decreases in him and by the effect of his virtue, a person becomes eligible to get a place in the world of Vishnu. .
