You weren't even sure what time it was when you awoke. The curtains were drawn shut but light still seeped into the room from above and below. You groaned, stretching your limbs as you rolled over to check on your beloved.

If asked how long you had just spent staring at Nazuna as he slept, you could not give them even a vague guess. He was just so undeniably pretty. So cozy, so warm, so inviting and just oh so cute. Even when he began to move, your first and only thought was 'What if he rolls over and I can't see his face.'

Lucky for you though, he didn't. Instead, an arm snaked under you and pulled you closer, his other arms draping over your waist to lock you in his grasp. Yawning, Nazuna finally popped an eye open to greet you.

"G'morning."

You leant forward and placed a kiss on his nose, returning the greeting.

Neither of you made an effort to move after that, just basking in each other and the dim light. Your eyes began to close again and you let them… until you felt the gaze of someone on you. You tried to ignore it but after a few minutes you cracked an eye open to find Nazuna just staring at you, a goofy smile on his lips.

"What're you staring at me for, hm?"

Nazuna laughed, inching his face closer.

"Oh so you can stare at me all morning, but I'm not allowed to do it back?"

You playfully rolled your eyes, beginning to shuffle away in attempt to get out of bed. Nazuna immediately caught on and tightened his grip, keeping you close.

"No no no! I wasn't done!"

You laughed, settling back down. You didn't particularly want to argue against the current predicament. Although you were going to ruin his fun. You nestled yourself closer to him, fitting your head under his chin and curled up. You heard Nazuna whine for a moment, but he eventually settled as well, running a hand through your hair and placing the occasional kiss against the crown of your head.

Time lost its flow. The entire day could have come and gone and neither of you would be the wiser. For the two of you, the morning stretched forever, it would wait until you were content… if you were ever content with the time spent cuddling.

It all seems like it might have been a dream.

That’s what you tell yourself, when you recall the last Midsummer Masquerade - that it was a fever dream, brought on by the haze of high summer, the heat of those long, lazy nights that somehow still manage to quicken the blood. And yet, you know it wasn’t simply a dream, and as spring slips on its finery, as the days lengthen and lend urgency to the steadily-shortening twilight hours, you wonder: will we dream again?

And then, the invitation arrives.

Welcome, one and all, to the Vesuvia Midsummer Masquerade.

It was a wild ride, wasn’t it? And it shall be again! (And if you’re unfamiliar with the Midsummer Masquerade, the 2021 event can be handily found at @midsummermasquerade-archive.)

The Midsummer Masquerade is a passion project run by @vissentasenadz, in which they wish to bring to life the notion that the Palace of Vesuvia likely holds many parties, and some are for a decidedly... mature crowd.

This means that no minors are allowed. Absolutely none. 

The concept is quite simple: As the month of June winds down, in the week that coincides with the solstice (June 19-25), we post art and fics and whatever else we might create to celebrate the saucier side of the Arcana fandom. (Yes, late June is technically Midwinter in Arcanaverse canon. But the devs can’t even keep it straight for seasonal releases, so we’re playing just as fast and loose.) There will be a collection of prompts each day to pick and choose from (and perhaps even combine, if you’re feeling adventurous), all with the overall theme of what’s been affectionately termed “The Summer Kinktober Speedrun” by your dear mod. And in the lead-up to the event week itself, there will be some prompts (including the very popular outfit prompt) to get everyone properly warmed up.

As with last year, we’ll be using the hashtag #VesuviaAfterDark to help with tracking posts, and kindly ask that you tag the blog as well.

Do be sure to clear your calendar. The Midsummer Masquerade would love to see what you’ll bring to the party.

I find it interesting how the progression of the Protagonist as a character in Rejuvenation so far as I've gotten, in regards to how they react to major threats like team Xen

Like early in the game, before Melia's supposed death, they just don't wanna put their life's on the line very much, generally tries to avoid being murdered via getting sucked into dimensional rifts and whatnot, which is honestly, understandable. General risk is fine but dying would suck obviously.

By the Castle prison segment of the game? Zero thought, Zero hesitation, immediately puts themselves between Emma/Melia and Aelita, and the person in Edgy Purple Armor™ with a sword who just flew in with a giant, Level 100 death bird who rather explicitly wants to murder all of them (or, all of them before Melia's disguise is destroyed, at least).

Like sure doesn't particularly go well, and almost immediately needs to be protected in return after losing horribly. But quite frankly it shows how by that point they're not exactly much to hesitate the second their friends are in danger. And considering what happens after that scene, it's quite obvious where they get that trait from.

#though i suppose that's also the first directly taking on a head honcho of Xen goes that poorly #like every admin they've fought by that point was strong but ultimately defeated #of course this doesn't stop them from wanting ro put themselves in front of potential threats after that #lemon plays #pokemon #pokemon rejuvenation

It was a known fact that Kanata likes to sit in the fountain- or really any large body of water, but the fountain was the most accessible. So it's no surprise that you spend a lot of time there. Usually you and Kanata chat, just about anything and everything. Sometimes you do classwork, sometimes you just enjoy the ambience.

And today was one of those times. It had been a long day. Work piled on more work. You'd even stayed late after school to finish up some things.

Rubbing your temple to try and dissuade the oncoming headache, you flittered down the steps that lead to the courtyard of Yumenosaki. Kanata had said he'd wait for you to be done for the day, and you knew this is where he would be. Scanning the area you could spot his blue hair even against the water. He had propped his head on his hands, which rested on the rim of the fountain. As you approached, he seemed to start, eyes snapping open and gaze finding yours. He smiled and offered a little wave, You plopped down on the fountain beside him, exhausted. Kanata could tell and immediately began fussing over you- in his own way, of course.

Soon enough you were laying down on the fountain rim, your bag as a pillow, just listening to the ambience of the world around you. Kanata was floating in the water beside you, quietly humming a song he knew you liked. He began to drift, and you couldn’t have that. You stuck out your hand toward him and made a grabby motion, just like a child.

Kanata didn't even hesitate to take it and there was something soothing about having his hand intertwined with yours. His touch was cool against yours and it grounded you. It kept you present.

The two of you stayed like that for a long time. You were pretty sure both of you nodded off at some point, taking this moment of peace to rest, hands clasped together so you wouldn't drift from each other… just like a pair of otters.
