So Dobson is heterophobic? And he's STRAIGHT?? Is that for real or is it all just an act? But an act to what end? Like I know he does seem to think he's better than everyone else but he has also expressed a lot of self-loathing, too. Is being heterophobic just his way of lashing out because of his own loneliness and and self-loathing?

It’s not that Dobson is heterophobic, it’s that he’s so attached to this idea that almost all men are just “knuckle-dragging stupid dudebros”, and all women are “innocent pure chaste beings that can do no wrong”, him being obsessed with lesbians is the only way he can keep those “damn dirty males” from touching women.

Remember, even his lesbian obsession has nothing to do with them being “sexy”, it’s about them being shy, or coyly holding hands, or sweetly cuddling, or a chaste kiss on the lips, ect ect. It’s why I think he gets to viciously and spitefully anger at women online when they call him out: they’re essentially going against his perceived mindset of the world he’s chosen to believe as fact.

Dobson’s isn’t so much heterophobic as he is a bitter tryhard misandrist.

I know Dobson partly got caught for making inflation art and all. While I’ve never done that sort of thing (ew), it only heightened my fears of ever making webcomics or any material myself, even under a pen name. What good is it if my past of being stupid gets discovered?

Honestly?

Own it.

If it’s something kind of embarrassing that you did in the past, just admit it’s you. You might get a bit of teasing, but for the most part people will appreciate the honesty.

If it’s stuff you did in the past that you don’t necessarily agree with anymore, also own it. Just say it was something you used to do but have moved on from. Again, it’s better to just be honest about it rather than try and hide it or lie.

Obviously you don’t have to bring it up if no one else does, but all lying or pretending not to know about it will just make people think you’re hiding things or it’s something they can bring up to easily get a rise out of you.

Everyone has done stupid or embarrassing shit in the past. But it’s the past. There’s no reason it should control your present or future. People who enjoy your stuff won’t hold it against you, and anyone who does try and use it against you were never gonna be fans of your work anyway, and can therefore be ignored. Criticism is important, but it’s just as important to know who’s giving it and why.

Dobson’s problem was lying about easily proven facts and then doubling down hard or pitching a fit when someone brought it up to troll him.

It also helps to not be a Dobson and keep your ego in check, but the fact you’re asking for advice makes me confident you won’t have to worry about that much, Anon.

Are there any of Dobson's art pieces that you personally find decent?

I think a lot of his college work has some personality to it, but I feel like that has more to do with having his teachers essentially being over his shoulders telling him what to work on and correct. It’s also back when he still had some love for drawing and wasn’t quite as bitter about everything as he would soon be.

There was also a couple of Samus arts he did that I thought was leagues about what he was drawing near the end, but that my be because he was drawing her in the suit and not a person of some kind.

That’s not to say they’re perfect or anything like that, but I do find them more appealing than Dobson’s usual output around that time.

Apologies if this has been covered before, but did you happen to have any comments on the Dobson comic where (IIRC) he details his artistic process and the last panel has his stand in complain about how he feels incomplete or something because he used the paint bucket tool for coloring? I ask because I'm genuinely confused at the punchline. It strikes me that he was able to identify a shortcoming of his art but then never did anything to improve it, so I'm wondering if the joke was simple self-deprecation or he was saying something like "Ya, I know this sucks ass, but I'm not going to do anything meaningful about it and you'll still put up with it anyway, so haha". I just don't understand the joke and was hoping you had some thoughts on the matter.

Took me a bit of time to find it, but the comic is called “Souless Byproduct”

The joke seems to be “I like how my sketches look more than the finished product”, but he doesn’t seem to make the connection that “maybe the way that I color my art is the issue”.

The 'troglodytes' thing puts me to mind of Chloe 'Bushwah'. Troglodytes I can understand not knowing, it's not exactly a common word and if you're spelling it that badly then autocorrect and spellcheck aren't going to save you. But, like... There's a wiki for Miraculous Ladybug. You can double-check her name. As somebody who never watched Miraculous I can look at 'Chloe Bushwah' and tell there's something amiss with that name. Tchyoclodites is hysterical but misspelling Bourgeois as Bushwah with such absolute confidence is embarrassing.

I just got into the Dobson Rabbit Hole. One thing that I was always intrigued about was him writing that infamous comic about the Power Girl cosplayer only to get called out on it. I read on forums that Dobson or his followers at least harassed the cosplayer after he was called out. Did they really drive the poor girl out of the internet despite Dobson being the one who effed up?

That I can neither confirm nor deny. I know people contacted the girl on the picture and she confirmed that the picture was consensual and the comic was creepy. I was told she took down her social media due to harassment afterwards, so I don’t know how much connection is between that and Dobson’s yelling about how it wasn’t him in the picture when that particular tweet went viral.

I think most people just aren’t willing to give Dobson the benefit of the doubt. For obvious reasons.

I’m no fan of the film of the Snyderverse films in general, but it’s not like they invented the whole “Batman and Superman at odds with one another” thing. That comic just felt like a continuation of that shitty Batman one, where he claimed that the only Batman people like “nowadays” is the one that acts like a psychopath killer. He just creates a bizarre sounding argument to make himself look sane and reasonable.

The West Vs East post is extremely funny cuz Andrew’s ego is so large that he unironically thinks his characters represent the west when he was just a nobody artist at that time, like he could’ve chosen ANY other characters from Western Media (Superheroes, Cartoon characters, Comic Characters) but chose to use his gang of Garfield background characters instead

Yeah, he may not have gotten quiet the level of backlash if he’d drawn actual famous Western media characters rather than just his OC’s(that he drew ripping off an anime style, ironically enough).
