♡ ULTIMATE SHIPS MEME ♡:  Current OTP's
↳ Marcus Whitmore & Phoebe Taylor in A Discovery of Witches (2018 - 2022)
“But here’s the thing, Phoebe.” Whitmore lowered his mouth until it was inches from her ear and dropped his voice to a whisper. “Unlike the men who have taken you out to dinner and perhaps gone back to your flat for something afterwards, your propriety and fine manners don’t frighten me off. Quite the contrary. And I can’t help but imagine what you’re like when the icy control melts.”

You're asking me to believe in witches and blood-raged vampires? I mean, you realize how this sounds? I mean, sure, as a scientist, I'm trained to suspend disbelief until something is disproven, but without any evidence, you're asking a hell of a lot from me. I know.

FOR WANT OF A NAIL

Part Thirty-Two
Summary:  Baldwin Montclair had a string of ex girlfriends, a single child, and a  lifetime longer than most people could dream of to make all kinds of  mistakes. His family knew one which kept coming out of the woodwork to  irritate him every other century.
Also on AO3
Twelve months later..
Baldwin pinched the bridge of his nose and bit down on a long, angry sigh.
'A. Year. You lasted one year.'
Godfrey idly scratched the spot on his neck where the assassin's bolt had gone through.
'Yes. I am quite upset about it too.'
Godfrey and his retinue had been travelling back to Jerusalem from Caesarea when he had been ambushed. His guards had dispatched most of the attackers but one of them had gotten a lucky shot in with a crossbow bolt and there were too many witnesses and too much blood for Godfrey to pull off a miraculous recovery.
They had managed some damage control by claiming that Godfrey had succumbed to illness.
'I suggested that you take over from here'
Baldwin's head snapped up.
'Not Hugh?' He realised what he'd said and felt stupid. 'Not Hugh. Philippe's plans would die in five minutes.'
'I agree. I love our brother but he cannot manage a household, let alone a kingdom.'
'Very well,' Baldwin smoothed his tunic and stood up straight. 'I humbly accept your crown.'
________________________________________________________________
'Well done' Martin breathed.
Merula was inscrutable.
'Baldwin promises to be a fair and just ruler'
'Well, if he promises..'
They watched the procession growing closer.
'They murdered thousands'
Martin looked down at the ground.
'I want them gone. I want them out of my city, my country and my life.'
'...he's my best friend.' It sounded like whining  to his ears, even though it wasn't.
Merula's eyes flashed as she turned.
'You keep him then. And the rest of the family! In fact, I insist that you do.'

So Gerbert in ADOW is based on the man Gerbert of Aurilliac (Pope Sylvester II). The dude is credited as introducing the Arabic numerical system into Europe (the one we use today), re-introdicing the abacus and armillary sphere (old astronomical tool) to Europe, and inventing the first mechanical clock. Basically this French bishop-turned-pope was OBSESSED with learning things and traveled to Muslim Spain because he knew they knew things he didn't know and was DESPERATE to know them.
Meaning you could make an argument that the reason Gerbert wasn't really as huge of a villain in ADOW as Knox or Benjamin is because part of him kinda wanted to know what would happen. Part of his need to have The Book of Life could've been because he just wanted to know what it said for knowledge's sake.
Like he probably stops Diana after Council meetings like "What does the Book say about *insert topic here*?"

Marcus: This is bothering me. Phoebe: Well, you are digging up a corpse. Marcus: No, not that. That's, uh, pretty par for the course, actually.

A few story ideas. Don't steal.
1. Philippe survives, Matthew cannot bear to kill him. Though his mind is injured deeply, when Diana comes to France with Matthew she manages to heal him.
2. The book is not at the Bodleian, or Stephen retrieves it after Diana sees him and hides it at the Madison house. Diana shows it Matthew after they marry.
3. I want to write a P&P crossover with Adow. The Bishops are the Bennet's, the Clairmonts the Darcy/Fitzwilliam family, obviously. Ashmole 782 is in the Pemberley, Netherfield or Longbourn library. I don't have the rest of it yet.
4. ' Beware of the witch with the blood of the lion and the wolf. ' Can you see where I'm going with this? Tysan, GofT.
5. Downton/adow. Henry tells Mary the real reason why he is absent alot and it's not what she thought.
6: Edith tells Cora and Robert about Marigold from the beginning - there's a perfect moment in season three/four, can't remember precisely where - and or Edith brings Marigold back as a Swiss ward.

i finished watching ADOW seasons 1-3 (a discovery of witches) and here’s my thoughts
i love matthew. the relationship is rushed and somewhat misogynistic, but they somehow manage to make it domestic and fluffy to compensate. bad villain and antagonist so really it’s just about matthew and diana. they make a very, very pretty couple though. now i just wish i could read/watch the exact same show again but better.

EPILOGUE
Jeanine looked up from her desk and beamed.
‘Good morning sir!’
‘Good morning!’ Baldwin nodded at her, flashing a quick smile. She held a manilla folder out towards him as he headed into his office.
‘Mr Sadiq had some suggestions for the Holstead vs Maddock case’
Baldwin opened the folder and scrutinised it carefully. ‘Thank him for me, please, and let him know that I’ll keep this in mind.’
Jeanine nodded as Baldwin closed the door, and made her way downstairs.
‘Did he look at it?’ Kamal rolled his chair over to her eagerly. She nodded, and he pumped the air.
‘He said that he’ll keep your suggestions in mind’
‘Alright!’
Jeanine turned to Stuart who was arranging a slip of paper and a handful of crayons on a small wooden tray, along with a large coffee cup with World’s Best Boss written on the side.
‘Everything ready?’
‘Yes! All ready for The Boss’
________________________________________________________________
The gang crowded around Dennis’ computer as Baldwin headed down to the lobby to collect The Boss.
At five years old, Delphine de Clermont was the spitting image of her father, right down to the clothes. She took her visits to the bank very seriously; the first time Baldwin had brought her with him to work she had toddled into a company presentation and sat quietly through the whole thing, listening intently. Afterwards, through shrieks, squawks and violent waving, she got the point across, and Stuart spent the next hour breaking down equity research and asset management to the captivated two year old.
He had accidently called her ‘Boss’, and the nickname had stuck.
Delphine was wearing a miniature version of her father’s black suit with a red tie, her copper-coloured hair pulled up tight on her head with a black scrunchie. Her brothers were flanking her; Julian and Ambrose wore matching black and white tracksuits, and lace-up trainers that had seen a lot of action. Hugo, the quiet child, trailed behind the trio. The six-year-old liked to wear collared linen shirts and shorts, like an old explorer, and his hands were constantly sticky with drops of paint.
‘Look lively! The Boss is here!’ Dennis grinned and high-fived Delphine as she passed. She carefully pulled herself up onto the swivel chair next to Simon, who helped her pull the wooden tray on his desk towards her.
‘What are we reviewing today?’ Delphine asked, carefully holding up the piece of paper.
Behind them Julian and Ambrose wrestled Dennis into submission, and Hugo excitedly showed Holly a painting of a train he had done that Baldwin had had framed so he could hang it up in his office.
Simon leaned forward and pointed.
'This is a graph of the housing market-'
________________________________________________________________
Liv came to pick up her progeny at noon.
'Daddy's in a good mood' said Hugo, after he had run up and given her a hug. 'He made the ambassador for Sweden cry.'
'Some people never learn' Jeanine muttered quietly to herself.
Baldwin's personality had taken a massive leap forward in terms of being kind, but that didn't make him nice. He was still perfectly capable of doing something terrible to your career if he felt like it, but he was a lot more open minded these days, especially about employee work-life balance.
'Here' Liv fished a slim glass bottle out of her pocket and handed it to Jeanine. 'I had a few samples made up of our new perfume line and I thought you might like to try it.'
'Thank you so much!' Jeanine flushed, pleased. Liv's handmade perfumes had taken off; the demand for them was so high that she had invested in a bigger workshop. The rest of the business was going well too.
Baldwin approached, the triplets giggling as he carried them under both arms. Liv leaned in for a kiss.
'Shall we go to lunch now?'
'We shall.'
Author's Notes
The triplets' full names are:
Julian Jeffrey Cole Halaliel Sebastian
Ambrose Omael William Harry August
Delphine Circe Sabine Nanael Meredith
Halaliel - the angel of irony 😂😅
Julian is the oldest, Delphine is the youngest. Baldwin let Liv name them because he got to name Hugo. Liv picked names that she liked rather than a relative's name.
