It's Actually Adrien Dupain-Cheng Future Wayne. We Don't Talk About The Agreste Part.
Tumblr media
Thank you for your patience and idea! I may have taken it in a different direction than you thought, but I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: This is somewhat crack. Moving on:
.
On the morning before the class were set to leave for Gotham, Adrien took the time to remind his very forgetful father that his son had a life outside of him like a good son would have done.
"My class will be in Gotham for two weeks on a class field trip. I hope there will be no trouble in Paris while we are gone." There was a certain emphasis on that last sentence.
Gabriel didn't even look up from his tablet. "Of course. There's no use in increasing the butterfly population if ladybugs are gone."
"Hey! Cats are a formidable foe too."
"No, they're not." Gabriel wasted no time saying.
Adrien spluttered at the utter lack of hesitation in that statement (Chat Noir totally kicked Hawk Moth's ass multiple times) and normally, Gabriel would be amused at his son's absolute lack of decorum, but he wanted to have a peaceful breakfast for once.
"Is there a point to this conversation, Adrien?"
Adrien was still miffed about his earlier comment but answered. "I would like to have an uninterrupted date with my boyfriend and not worry about any evil butterflies for once."
Gabriel blinked. He had to look up at that, leveling an unimpressed stare at his son. "What?"
"Did I forget to mention? I'm gay."
"Oh, I'm not doubting the gay part. I am merely surprised you managed to get into a relationship."
Adrien was offended as fuck. "I totally got game."
"Adrien, I may not have been there for you much—"
"May not have?" He cut in. "You definitely weren't there for me at all."
"But even I can tell that your social and romantic skills are very lacking." Gabriel continued like he wasn't interrupted.
"Okay, first of all, rude. And second of all, I snagged a Wayne for your information."
Gabriel snorted. The child did always have a wild imagination. "Sure, you did."
Adrien was not in the mood to fight for his honor. Mari would not be happy if he came to class late. She might even withhold pastries as punishment, and he wants his pastries.
"Well, I'm off to school now. I hope you have a shitty day, Parental Figure."
"I hope you fall down the stairs, Problem Child."
"I'm your only child."
"And you're always the one giving me problems. What is your point?"
.
.
.
So as far as first impressions go, Gotham is certainly among the top for most memorable. The city was very gloomy and dark and edgy. No wonder Dami loves this place so much.
Anyway, the class was taking a tour of WE. Adrien was hanging in the back of the group with Mari. She was taking notes on the tour and redesigning the Bats' costumes like a multitasking queen.
He was pretending to pay attention while texting Damian and commenting on how Lila and the rest of the sheep was chatting up with the tour guide.
He felt so bad for Dami's brother.
Hot-And-Sexy: Don't be. Todd deserves to suffer in that harlot's presence.
Sunshine: That's mean, Dami.
Hot-And-Sexy: I am mean.
Well, he did have a point. He wouldn't be Damian otherwise.
.
A mind-numbingly hour later, they were finally able to escape to lunch.
No matter how bored he felt or how much he hated listening to Lila's grating voice on how she absolutely knows the Waynes (not knowing the tour guide was Bruce's infamous dead second son), anything beat having to suffer through evil butterflies and Father always ruining his day because he has nothing better than to do than to terrorize two sleep-deprived teenagers.
Man, his dad needs to get an actual life.
"Do you think hooking my dad up with someone will help him with his issues?" He wondered out loud.
"No." Marinette answered before leaning against Adrien and showing off her sketchbook where she was redesigning Robin's suit. "Mind showing your hottie what he thinks?"
"He would claim Robin already looks amazing."
"And I will disagree vehemently."
Before Adrien could respond, someone cut in.
"Oh hey. You're part of the French class touring, right?"
He looked up to see the infamous zombie known as Todd. And huh, he doesn't look like he eats brains. He actually looks really hot in a bad boy way. Not that Adrien was paying close attention to his appearance. He was a happily taken man.
"Yeah. My name is Adrien Dupain-Cheng and this is my sister, Marinette."
He watched Damian's brother sat down in front of them and made himself comfortable at the table. "Jason Peters, the tour guide but I'm sure you already knew that. I just wanted to see how you were liking the tour and all that."
Not really. But it was a convenient excuse. The only reason why he was wasting his free day talking to annoying high schoolers instead of reading Jane Austen was because he lost a bet against Tim.
He didn't expect much and he really had to hold back from confessing he was Brucie's son when that Lila girl kept going on and on about knowing his bosses personally and if he wasn't nice to her, she will report him to her boyfriend, Damian Wayne.
He almost laughed himself silly when he heard that. The demon brat will never date someone like her. He kind of wanted to be an ass just to see her bluff, but he promised Dickie he would be on his best behavior, and he didn't feel like being guilt trip by the disappointed Mom stare today.
He noticed the two students hanging near the back and away from the rest of the class. There was a clear distance between the two groups, and he didn't miss the animosity or hostile glares Lila and her flock of idiots shot the two. He also didn't miss the way the teacher just let it happen and only spoke up when Adrien and Marinette lagged behind.
He immediately picked up on how the Parisian teen model Adrien Agreste introduced himself. He was a Bat who was raised by a paranoid furry in a batsuit. He memorized the class roster and did a basic background check on them.
"The tour was great." Marinette said. "I liked the different social programs WE initiated to help a lot of people."
"Yeah." Adrien agreed. "I think I might actually want a career doing something like that."
He has always liked helping people out as Chat Noir but maybe plain ole Adrien can make a difference like that too.
Jason had to admit the blonde kid was adorable. He had innocent doe green eyes and a pure sunshine smile.
And huh.
"Have you guys gone sightseeing yet?"
"Not much." Marinette said. "You have any places to recommend?"
"Yeah. Do you guys like animals?"
Adrien immediately nodded. He and Damian already planned to get a dog, cat, and a hamster to keep Mari's future hamster company.
"Great." Jason beamed. "I know a few animal shelters you should check out. But there's one you should go to tomorrow. Let me write down the name and address."
If memory serves him right, the demon brat mentioned at breakfast how he was going to visit his animal shelter tomorrow.
Let it never be said that he did nothing for the baby bat and he was great at matchmaking. He was also bored and what's the point of having siblings if not to use them for your own entertainment?
.
Tim didn't expect to meet the mysterious Adrien Jason swears is a perfect match for their nightmare of a brother (Opposites attract Timberlina; it makes sense. Stop dissing on my amazing logic) at a coffee shop at 7 in the morning.
And wow, the kid was a literal sunshine. Who could look so happy at fucking 7 in the morning?
He only went to bed like three hours ago before he had to wake up because he had actual shit to do. Jason kept him up. Okay, he was already awake to finish up cases anyway but that doesn't matter.
Tim was only half paying attention to his brother as he talked about his perfect (ly shitty) matchmaking skills.
Jason was spying on them at the animal shelter yesterday and swore on his grave that he saw the little demon blush when he saw Adrien waked through the door.
Tim didn't believe it since it was common knowledge that demons only have spite and ill will in their veins, not blood, therefore Damian can't blush. Surprisingly, Jason anticipated his disbelief and showed him the pictures. And wow, Tim is going to need to update his file. Turns out monstrous hellions can show an emotion other than anger and stabby stabby.
Things got worse when Dick entered the room. And it turns out that Jason wasn't alone in his spying adventures. Dick was gushing to them about his baby brother and psuedo son finally growing up and finding love like a normal pubescent teen.
Dick proudly showed off pictures of the two hugging and Damian didn't even stab the kid.
Clearly, this was meant to be.
"Is something on my face? You keep staring at me." Adrien asked politely as he waited for his sugary sweet caramel coffee and Mari's bitter black one to be done. He really should have anticipated bumping into Damian's horde of siblings at some point.
He recognized the black haired, blue eyed stranger as that insufferable imbecile Drake that has no self preservation skills and should be benched until the fool actually knows how to function as a member of society.
Shit. Tim didn't mean to zone out and make a fool of himself.
.
.
.
Adrien was half paying attention when the class talked excitedly about the upcoming Wayne gala they got invited to. The class was crowded in the hotel room where Ms. Bustier was laying the rules and her expectations of how she wants them to behave.
Too bad she wasn’t taking the same feedback.
But Adrien was a good kitty who kept his mouth shut and spammed Damian with animal memes like a good boyfriend. When he glanced to the side, Marinette had a bored look on her face.
“Oh yeah, Adrien and Damian are totally fighting over me.” Lila boasted like a preening peacock.
Adrien would rather throw himself off a building.
“They couldn’t figure out who will be my date so I decided to go alone to stop the fighting.”
“Dami can have her.” Adrien didn't hesitate to say. Gabriel should be glad that his son is following after his footsteps even if he is a shitty anime villain.
"Damian would stab her." Mari pointed out as the only person with common sense and no evil parents to influence her actions. "You don't want to deal with that mess."
Damn, she had a point. "Yeah, you're probably right."
"I know."
.
Damian is not pleased with his family for ruining his dates with Adrien with their excessive spying and invasion of privacy.
His mood was not the greatest when the gala starts. Grayson and Father took away his good knives and daggers so he doesn't stab any guests as if he can't utilize a mere butter knife to vanquish any annoyances.
"Damian, for the love of god, please do not make a scene tonight." Father had a stern expression on his face.
The man then proceeded threatening to bench him like an unruly toddler if he did not behave so he is displeased with Father for that.
He overhears someone bragging about how Adrien and Damian are totally fighting over her.
And oh.
Oh.
It was that Lila girl he was warned about.
A plan formed in his head that made him proud to be his mother's son. He immediately headed off to find his Beloved and future sister-in-law.
They were by the food table looking every bit the part of high class in Marinette's original designs, unlike that witch sprouting lies in a secondhand dress.
"I believe a year has been long enough of a secret." Damian enjoyed pulling one over the supposed World's Greatest Detectives but he was growing tired of the assumptions that he and his Chaton were available to plebians.
"You want to go public?" Adrien whispered. "I mean I'm fine with it. But Damian Wayne isn't even out of the closet yet."
"I'm okay with it."
"Well, okay then."
"Okay."
Dear kwami, Marinette can't believe she like these idiots. She pushed them out of the shadows and into the wide open floor where the light is shining down on them.
"Make sure to kiss Adri really good in front of the cameras." She winked and felt accomplished when Adri blushed like a tomato and Damain smirked.
She pulled her phone out and set it to video, not wanting to miss a single shot of this upcoming masterpiece.
People stopped and stared as the youngest Wayne had his hands intertwined with an unknown pretty blonde boy. And once they arrived in the middle of the floor where everyone can see them, Damian turned and kissed Adrien, sweeping him off his feet like a prince charming.
Marinette kept her finger on the record button as the room erupted in loud gasps and screeching (she put her bet on Lila making that horrid noise).
Damian focused his entire attention on his wonderful, pure Chaton. But he did looked to the side for his family's reactions.
It was satisfying to see the gobsmacked expressions on his siblings and father's faces. It was always nice to get one over them. Serves them right for ruining his mood. He'll make a scene if he damn well wants to.
If Father tries to say anything, he'll just point out how Drake has been bringing a boy to his bedroom for the past month.
And Father will be too occupied dealing with the Super Clone defiling his son to worry about Damian's love life.
It was a perfect plan worthy of the best Robin.
"Well, that's one way of coming out I guess." Adrien's face was red and he was in a daze when Dami pulled back looking composed and dignified as ever that smug Hot-And-Sexy son of a bitch.
But he was smiling. Looking over, he saw Marinette holding her phone out. He hoped she got a really good video or at least pictures that captured his good side.
"Beloved, I'm a Wayne. Everything I do is dramatic. Have you met my father?"
"Yeah, I hope Batman doesn't kill me for dating his son."
"Don't be ridiculous. Father has a soft spot towards children."
At least that was good news.
"It's Nightwing you have to watch out for but Grayson has a soft spot towards me so you'll be fine."
Adrien was so dead.
Luckily, he has a beautiful and badass goddess of a sister willing to fight in his stead.
"You are so lucky I like your stupid handsome face."
Damian's smirk did funny things to Adrien's stomach. "I know, Beloved."
Fuck, can he be any more perfect?
He can't wait until Dami proposes to him in the future, but he knew Hot-And-Sexy will have to fight Mari for his hand in marriage first cause he was a classy guy like that.
I'm sorry if this was more bats than ML but I've been more into the batfam fandom than the ML one that it was easier to write the batboys. I just find it hilarious to have the bats try to set Damian up with his own boyfriend.

Adrien seeing that Marinette wore her pijamas for their date and going back to change so that he is wearing pijamas too is giving me Aquaman when Arthur gave Mera roses and she thought it was food and started eating the petals and offered him some and he didn't think twice before eating the petals too. Only gentlemen y'all. That's true love.

Fanfiction: Swimming in Circles, Chapter 1
Just a little fic in honor of Pride Month. University-aged Marinette encounters a new guy who turns her world upside down in a post-hawkmoth, post-Adrien(but still friends!) world.
Link to the fic on my AO3 page in bio, full test of the chapter under the cut. As always comments welcome.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng was in trouble, and she knew it. It was a familiar kind of trouble, but one that hadn’t come knocking in years. The flushed cheeks, the sweaty palms -even underwater- and the sudden lack of coordination that was all the more alarming in her current activity.  You see, Marinette was swimming, or trying to at this point, and making a bad job of it all things considered.
Normally her laps were peaceful, serene, a great way to unwind from classes. She would grab one of the two lanes set aside for laps at the pool and burn through her 1.5 Kilometers without incident. She’d been doing it for years, ever since conquering her fear. It also just felt good to know that not all of her physical prowess came from a pair of earrings. This time she’d bumped into the wall, fouled herself in the lane lines, and swallowed enough water to make herself feel queasy. She stopped at the shallow end and clung to the wall, barely daring to peek at the cause of her problems.
He was blond, so maybe I have a type, his hair was so feathery and light it made her fingers itch to run through it. It was cut just above the shoulders, and had body Marinette would kill for. Sunglasses atop his head, which wasn't uncommon for lifeguards, but he wore them like a tiara. Eyes bluer than the deep end, at least that part is different, and one of those cocky little easy smiles that flashed perfect teeth and made her toes curl.
Sleek and cuddleable, but with just enough firm muscle that she could imagine herself feeling safe in his arms. The cropped white T-shirt he wore with his red trunks gave a full view of abs she could lay her head on all day. Over all of it was body language that kept pulling her back. Some lifeguards were Lords, some were bored, some were just there to pick up, this guy felt like he both owned the pool and was glad people were enjoying it. It was casual confidence in a slouch that was disarming without being sloppy.
In her mind, he turned to her. Those deep blues widening slightly before one eyebrow arched in a playful smirk, and he said, ”hey.”
She knew it was only in her head, but still she was powerless. She sank lower in the water to soothe her inflamed cheeks. She was in university now, and so her brain had a lot more to work with than the last time she’d had this kind of a reaction to a guy.
“Hey.” the word echoed again; gentle, teasing.
“Hey.” Forceful this time, louder. His tone was rich, but the joke never left it.
“Lane 1!”
Marinette blinked and shook her head. She was lane one right now. She looked up, and.. He really was looking at her. Confusion and bemusement playing across his features. Marinette managed a juddering, ”Y-yes?”
He extended the arm he wasn’t leaning on in his high-backed Lifeguard’s chair. waggling the fingers of his hand towards the side of the pool, “Pauses are okay, but if you need a longer breather, could you get out of the lane and let someone else swim a few laps?”
"Oh!" Marinette sank slightly lower in shame, then slunk to the ladder.
As she climbed out another swimmer slipped into the lane and began their own exercise immediately. Marinette mastered her blush and glanced one more time back at the lifeguard, he gave her a tip of his head and a thousand watt smile before turning his eyes back to the pool. Marinette fast-walked to her seat, dried her hands and snatched her phone up in a heartbeat.
Marinette:OMG OMG OMG
Marinette:Hot guy alert!
She flipped to a second conversation and wrote something a little more coherent.
Marinette:I think I did it! Slump defeated!
A notification came in on the first conversation.
Alya: hot, or hothot? Are we talking another 'he's pretty Alya, but he's not…'
Marinette: Hothot. Clumsinette hot. All systems are functioning hot. What do I doooooo, hot.
Alya:Yes! Yesyesyes! Congrats, M! So, you gonna move in, or just bask in your revival?
That was a real question. Marinette was still too giddy to decide. It had been so long, since Adrien, for a guy to do this to her. She'd dated guys who were 'nice'. She still wanted a relationship in her life, despite assurances from all sides that there was no rush. Marinette knew she was a girl who liked having a partner, even if she could make it on her own.
After she and Adrien had broken up in the gentlest of ways, she had just lost the spark. Mourning first love, drowning in schoolwork, still Ladybug after Hawkmoth, there were plenty of reasons. That didn't make it hurt any less. Finding she could get this excited about anything, anyone again, it was a victory. Marinette's thumbs spend across her screen.
Marinette: Should I? I don't want to come on too strong and spook him. He might have a girlfriend! Maybe this is better just to admire from afar? I'm going to send you a picture!
Another notification came in while she was typing, from the other conversation.
Adrien: Woo hoo! I feel like I should be jealous but I'm just glad to hear it! Tell me about him, her, them?
Marinette: not that far yet! I just had to tell someone or I was gonna explode! How's Kagami?
Marinette exited out to open up her camera. Then a convoluted process began of trying to take a picture without looking like she was trying to take a picture. She got one she wasn't entirely happy with. Mr. Lifeguard was looking to the side, and there were shadows in the way, but she sent it off to Alya anyway.
Adrien: she's good, we're good. Don't think you need to reassure me, marinette. This is about you! I gotta go though, text me later! We still on for this weekend?
Marinette stuck her phone back in her bag and had a little war with herself. No. She decided. I'll just enjoy this, keep coming to the pool, and not wreck a good thing the moment I find it.
Resolved, Marinette walked back over to take up a spot waiting for one of the lap-lanes to be free. She even flashed Mr. Lifeguard a smile when he glanced her way. She got a playful eye roll in return over a smile in return, and it had her bouncing on her toes.
While she waited ideas started to creep in of their own accord. When it was her turn again, Marinette jumped into the water with possible scenarios coalescing in her mind. She swam her first lap to a candlelight dinner. Her second and third to talking on a rooftop -who cared if it didn't make sense. Her fourth through sixth were hushed whispers and sweet nothings. Her seventh was imagining something entirely too personal so so-
Light and pain exploded in Marinette's head. She'd missed her turn and powered full speed into the end of the lane. She opened her mouth, swallowing water. she darted for the surface but was turned around and careened into the bottom of the pool, scraping her shoulder. Chlorine was burning her lungs, forcing her mouth open again in a cough that spent the last of her precious air before she pulled in even more water. She flailed in a sudden desperation, for Ladybug of all people to drown in less than two meters of water.
A strong arm encircled her neck and shoulder. Marinette lashed out blindly in her panic but the grip held and she was yanked bodily from the pool.
Light, sunlight this time, blinded her. She was rolled onto her side firmly and spit up lungfuls of pool water. Someone was rubbing her back.
“Can you hear me? Not too waterlogged?"
Mr. Lifeguard's face swam into focus. Marinette's first thought: He's wearing eyeliner, blended into her second: His makeup game is on point. Followed by realizing what must have happened, and her old friend, humiliation, of course.
At least she was coherent, "Yes, I-I'm okay."
His eyes stared into hers for a long second then flicked up to her head. The hand on her back moved up, pulling off her cap and running fingers through her hair with a professional firmness. Marinette winced when he found the bump.
His eyes came back to hers. "No dilation, no bleeding, you can go to the front office and have a seat for a bit if you want, just to make sure."
Concussion, Marinette reasoned. She shook her head and the world didn't spin. She sat up, everything was still stable. "No, I think I'm okay. I've had worse."
That got a warm laugh out of him, and the pounding in her head lessened for it. "The walls can jump out at you. Take your time, no need to rush."
He sat back on his heels, then stood and offered her a hand up. Marinette took it without catching fire, which just showed how far she'd come since collége days. "I know. You'd think after years I would be able to do it in my sleep, but sometimes my head gets elsewhere and…" she shrugged helplessly.
"Some things never change."
Instantly their roles were reversed. Marinette's curiosity spiked, while Mr. Lifeguard was suddenly abashed.
Before Marinette could reply he stepped back, "Well, I have to get back to my chair. People complain if we aren't visible. Take care, and remember, swim safe." He was back up at his post while Marinette was still struggling with her thoughts. He knows me? How does he know me? Oh god, what does he know about me?

for @zodoods, I hope this lives up to expectations 🙏
Words: 4k Summary:
Marinette knew she tended to get tunnel vision when she was focused, but luckily her boyfriend Chat Noir was always there to watch her back as they fought Monarch. With their enemy having disappeared, however, they decided together that it was finally time to reveal themselves. In public. Face to face. It's a little silly to have to introduce yourself to your own boyfriend, but after all, it wasn’t Marinette’s fault that she never knew her boyfriend’s name. (Adrien has never been to school, and Marinette doesn't know him.)
Marinette hadn’t known her smile could be so wide. Staring at herself in the reflection, she couldn’t be bothered to worry about the awful dark circles under her eyes, or the frizzy mess of her hair. Everything could be covered or smoothed over, after all. None of that really mattered. Not when her whole world was about to change.
Today was the day.
“Today,” she breathed the word to herself. “Tikki, can you believe it’s today?” she asked, turning around to look towards her kwami.
Tikki giggled from where she sat atop the dresser. “You and Chat Noir have only been planning it forever,” she replied.
The smile was beginning to make Marinette’s cheeks ache. “We have.”
For months following the disappearance of Monarch, Ladybug and Chat Noir had been planning and mentally preparing to finally reveal their identities to one another, eventually coming to the conclusion that they were both ready for it just a week prior. She could still see Chat’s goofy smile in her mind’s eye, clear as day.
“So, we’re really doing this?” he had asked as they sat atop a rooftop together. “For real?”
“For real,” she had replied, excitedly nodding her head. Taking his hand in hers, she had pressed three rapid kisses to the back of it, trying to impress all of her enthusiasm and all of her love into his skin through the suit. “I can’t wait to meet you, mon Chaton,” she had promised him.
His face was rosy, with that big, beautiful smile of his stretching out his cheeks. “Neither can I, my Lady.”
Marinette let out a low squeal at the not-so-distant memory, pressing her hands against her hot cheeks.
She was going to meet her boyfriend. For the first time.
Well, not exactly the first time, but first enough.
They had plans to meet at a little café just a few blocks from the Grand Palais. He had surprisingly been a bit apprehensive at first, but she assured him everything would be okay. Marinette promised to wear the rose he had given her in her hair, and she was going to look for the boy wearing the scarf she had made him on his pretend birthday (and then he could tell her his real birthday!).
She couldn’t wait.
This day was a long time coming, and Marinette had plenty of fantasies to prove it. She wanted to hold her boyfriend’s hand in public, kiss him and go to the movies, all without a crowd of people taking photos of them. She wanted to goof off and be silly with him, all without worrying about being a hero, or acting like a good role model. She wanted to take him over to her house, and have him meet her parents, and stay for dinner without the threat of a supervillain interrupting the desert.
And after today, all that could finally be reality.
She got to work applying her makeup and wrangling her hair, not wanting to waste another second. Although she was notoriously late for most events, this was something she hoped to actually arrive early to. The ruby red dress she had laid out the previous night while she should have been sleeping was the last to slip over her head, perfectly matching the scarlet of Chat’s rose tucked behind her ear. The knee-length skirt fluttered to and fro as she took one last scrutinizing look in the mirror. Everything had to be perfect for her not-so-first impression.
Once she was finally satisfied, Marinette tossed her purse over her head. As soon as Tikki was settled and comfortable, she at last headed out.
There was a skip in her step the entirety of the walk, completely out of her control.
Although excitement was certainly at the forefront of her emotions, she would be lying if she didn’t acknowledge that little seed of nervousness. What if he didn’t like her? (He would.) What if he wasn’t as kind as she thought, and his personality was nothing more than a front? (Impossible.) What if his nerves got the best of him, and he didn’t show?
With her heart thundering in her chest, she turned the last corner to bring the café into view.
Her eyes zoned in on a mop of blond hair instantly. It was neat and combed back— completely at odds with the wild wind-blown look she was used to seeing on her boyfriend, but something in the way her stomach twisted and swooped inside of her told her that she may have spotted him. Taking slow steps closer, she traced the curve of his posture with her eyes as he sat hunched over the tiny café table, gasping slightly as she located the familiar shade of blue peeking from his collar.
It had to be him. It had to.
A chorus of giggles broke her concentration, drawing her eyes to a gaggle of girls a couple tables over. They were whispering excitedly and pointing in the direction of the same mop of blond hair, all with cell phones raised. A sudden wave of heat ran up Marinette’s spine as she realized they were ogling him.
She wasn’t surprised that girls were looking at him. Chat Noir was the cutest, most handsomest boy in the world, so of course they would. But that was her cutest and most handsomest boy in the world.
Her slow steps quickly evolved into a fast walk until she was right beside him, at which she practically threw herself onto the table, bodyblocking the girls’ view. The boy visibly jumped at her entrance. She glanced at his face for his reaction, but his eyes were covered by large sunglasses, effectively hiding any expression of recognition. Face feeling suddenly warm, Marinette stood back up straight and cleared her throat, casually drumming her fingers against the laminate surface.
“H-hi. I’m looking for my kitten,” she said, uttering the code phrase they had planned to use to confirm each other’s identities.
The boy smiled, instantly easing her worries. “I saw a little bug on the flyer.”
A grin spread across her cheeks before she could stop it, giddiness overflowing to the tips of her fingers. “I found you,” she murmured, just quiet enough to be just for him.
He stood from his seat, still smiling, and Marinette thought he was going in for a hug until he stepped around her. She was only confused for a second before he pulled out the chair on the other side of the table.
“Oh.” So the gentlemanly thing wasn’t an act after all. Accepting the gesture, Marinette turned to sit, feeling him push the chair in behind her as she did so. “Thank you.”
He simply hummed, before returning to his own seat across from her.
“So, um–” Not really sure where to start, (how does one introduce themselves to the boy they’ve been dating for two years?) Marinette figured the basics should go first. She almost wanted to laugh as she realized she was essentially on a blind date with her long-term boyfriend. “I’m Marinette,” she said, tugging at her bangs before pushing them behind her ear.
“Marinette,” he breathed. Breathed, as in he actually sighed her name when he said it. Marinette thought she might melt. “That’s a beautiful name.”
She wondered how dopey her smile must look to him. “Thank you,” she replied. “And you are?”
Thin blond eyebrows raised over the rims of the glasses, before dropping back down out of sight almost as quickly as they appeared. He laughed. “Okay,” he said between chuckles. “I’m Adrien.”
Marinette wasn’t quite sure what was so funny, but his laughter was just as contagious as always. With a giggle, she stuck out her hand. “Nice to meet you, Adrien.”
His returning smile was soft. “Nice to meet you, Marinette.” He took her hand, and turned it to rest atop his on the table, running smooth circles over the back of her palm with his thumb. The feeling of his warm skin on hers was foreign and exciting, setting off yet another flurry of butterflies in her stomach.
“You still wear your pigtails,” he stated.
Naturally, her free hand trailed to her hair. She smiled as her fingers brushed the velvet petals of the rose. “They’re kind of my armor,” she replied with a shrug. “All the better for you to recognize me.”
The corner of his lip twitched, but the soft smile remained unchanged. Part of her wondered if he was still nervous about meeting. Hoping to ease his worries, she grinned.
“And I’m glad to see you don’t wear whiskers,” she joked.
He laughed again, and that seemed to be enough to lower the tension in his shoulders, to Marinette’s relief. “You’re right, I don’t,” he said. “I have a clean public image to maintain, you know.”
Marinette furrowed her brows, trying and most likely failing to hide the confusion on her face. It was surprising; Chat Noir was definitely the type of person who would grow “whiskers” just to commit to the bit. To each their own she supposed. Mustaches did seem to be more supervillain-y than superhero-y, after all.
“I do have to ask, though, what’s with the glasses?” she asked, moving the conversation along. “They’re so big, they’re covering half your face. Any plans to take those off?”
“Well, I–” Adrien’s head turned minutely towards the girls at the table behind her, barely perceptible to anyone who wasn’t looking for it. “I don’t know.” His hand pulled at the scarf where it crossed over his black t-shirt.
“Please,” she insisted, putting on her best baby-doll eyes. “How unfair you get to see all of my face and I can’t see all of yours.” She held his hand tighter, imploring but hopefully he knew it was still light-hearted.
“Marinette, it’s just–”
She pulled out her secret weapon: the pout. His mouth instantly stopped moving.
“I’ve never really seen your eyes before,” she added. At his answering sigh, she felt a bout of pride swell in her chest. Victory.
Hesitantly, he removed the sunglasses and folded them on the table, all the while looking shyly up at her through golden lashes.
Marinette’s pulse quickened as she finally— really— met his eyes. Such strange feelings of déjà vu ran through her when she caught sight of how green they were. It was the first time she had seen his whole face, and yet it already felt so nostalgic and familiar. It was almost as if she had seen him before, and she supposed she had, in her dreams at the least.
“Gorgeous,” she sighed, unable to stop her tongue from embarrassing the rest of her.
All the regret she might have held drained out of her, however, when she saw how pink his cheeks went in response. His dropped jaw slowly curved into a small smile, and those pretty green eyes closed in half moons as he replied, “Thanks for the compliment.”
Was this really the same boy?
Marinette snorted. “What? No cheesy remark about how you knew I wouldn’t be able to resist you?”
“I’m just far too stunned by the beauty in front of me to think straight,” he said, mouth pulled sideways. “I daresay you could outshine me anyday.”
There he is.
She rolled her eyes in response, but she couldn’t deny the coils of warmth that spread across her skin. With a fond shake of her head, she brought one elbow to the top of the table to cradle her chin in her hand.
“You know, you’re taking this really well,” Adrien said, the smirk fading back to a humble smile. It was odd seeing him so reserved. “Better than I thought you would.”
“Taking what well?” she asked. Her heart squeezed in her chest as she recalled his apprehension from the night before. She attempted to keep things light, sliding into a teasing tone as she conspiratorially whispered, “Did you think I wouldn’t like you without the cat ears, mon Chaton?”
“Well, no, that’s not exactly—”
She cut him off, making sure to speak with all the sincerity she could muster, “Because there is no universe where I wouldn’t like you.” With a coy wink, she added, “Believe me. I checked.” She grinned with pride as her fingers squeezed his on the table, feeling as though she had one-upped him in cheesiness.
Again, his mouth hung open slightly as he processed her words, but soon morphed back into the soft smile. His head tilted to the side. “You always know what to say to make me happy, my–” The corners of his lips twitched, his intended endearment clear to both of them— “my Marinette,” he said instead, pulling their joined hands up to brush his lips against the back of her palm.
Dimly, Marinette registered the sound of a squeal from somewhere behind her.
“But, um, no.” His countenance took on a much more nervous expression, his free hand drifting back to play with the nape of his neck. “I meant more–” He paused, waving his hand awkwardly towards himself.
“What?”
His brows furrowed, mouth open and clearly poised to explain himself, but he was interrupted by a waiter arriving to take their orders, and the moment was surreptitiously forgotten.
As the date went on, conversation flowed freely between them. Marinette learned so many of his favorite things, what he was studying in school, that he was an only child just like her, and of course, his birthday, time and year. So many things that she would normally have naturally learned over time, which was something that she took for granted in her other relationships with family and friends. It was odd, but wonderful that this absurd blind date was just another unique experience that they could share together.
She would have been more than happy to talk to him forever if she could, but a trill from Adrien’s phone stopped their conversation short.
His eyebrows turned down as he read the screen. “How did it get so late?” he pouted, just as cute as before when he wore cat ears on his head. “I’m sorry, Marinette, but I have to go.”
Her smile was sympathetic, barely holding herself back from mirroring his pout. “That’s okay,” she replied. “We’ll just have to have our next date sooner.”
The answering smile on his face made it all worth it.
Adrien’s fingers flew across his keyboard for a second, before another trill responded. “My bodyguard says he can take you home, though!” he announced happily. “So we can spend a little more time together.”
Marinette couldn’t stop the confused noise from escaping her mouth. “Your…bodyguard?” she repeated slowly.
“Yeah!” He looked up from his phone, lips softly quirked upwards. “And don’t worry; he may look mean but he’s the kindest man I’ve ever met.”
That certainly wasn’t something Marinette was worried about, but now she felt like she needed to be.
She tried to cross the appropriate wires in her head. Okay, so Chat Noir, famed superhero of Paris and wielder of the power of destruction, had a bodyguard in his everyday life. And that bodyguard apparently drove him places?
Perhaps she needed to collect more evidence.
Too busy thinking to come up with anything to say, Marinette mutely nodded her agreement.
Having already paid the bill— well, Adrien paid, despite her protests—, the two stood from their seats and headed down the sidewalk. Marinette followed Adrien closely, too busy sweeping her eyes across the busy street to spot this ‘mean-looking’ man to notice Adrien’s knuckles bumping into hers. She finally looked up at him when he laced their fingers together and squeezed. His green eyes almost seemed to shimmer as they looked into hers, and Marinette could feel all that wound-up tension melt away in response.
The spell between them was broken by a sudden honk.
Adrien was the first to break eye contact, turning back towards the street. “Oh! There he is.”
Marinette followed his gaze. Her eyes widened as they landed on the sleek sedan that had pulled up to the curb in front of them. She didn’t know much about cars, but she knew enough to identify the logo of a luxury brand. The car was well-washed and shiny, unlike most of the vehicles that parked along the dirty city streets.
A burly man emerged from the driver’s side door, and walked around the car. To Adrien’s credit, he did seem a bit scary, based on sheer size alone, but Marinette supposed her Papa was probably about the same size. She figured if the man smiled a bit more, he would come off much friendlier. He greeted the two of them with little more than a low grunt and a nod, before briskly opening the rear passenger side door.
Marinette froze in place as she waited for one of the others to move. She couldn’t for the life of her understand what was going on. Was Adrien going to drive and this man was graciously letting her have the front seat?
“Marinette?” Adrien cleared his throat. “Are you ready to go?”
She blinked a few times, looking back and forth between the open door and her boyfriend’s face. “Um, yes,” she replied nervously. “I’m ready.”
He bowed his head, gesturing with his free hand towards the open door. “Then, after you, my lady.”
The familiar name quelled the voices in her head long enough for her to step forward. “Thank you, my prince,” she teased in response.
Though she did step in first, she held fast to his hand, pulling him along with her. The inside of the sedan was just as clean as the outside. Small tablets nestled into the back of both front headrests, and a far fancier screen than Marinette had in any of her devices at home was centerstage on the dashboard. She could feel her eyes widening as she took it all in.
Chat Noir was rich.
Chloé Bourgeois rich, maybe.
That was… unexpected. Admittedly, she never imagined Chat to have a high-class upbringing (if she could even call Chloé’s that). She had always envisioned him as a rough and tumble sort of kid. He would take soda over wine any day. Canned tuna over caviar. He had never turned up his nose to fast food, or cheap nosebleed seats at a concert, or acted like he was any better than anyone else.
No, Chat– Adrien— was amiable, gracious, and an appreciator of the little things–
“Marinette?”
She whipped her head around to meet her boyfriend’s gaze, having been yanked from her thoughts. “Yes?”
Adrien seemed to be holding back a laugh, clearly having recognized her thinking face. “Your address?”
“Oh!” She leaned forward in her seat, directing her attention to the driver. “12 Rue Gotlib, if you’re sure you don’t mind.”
Adrien’s face lit up in the rearview mirror. “That’s just around the corner from us!”
“Really?” She was reminded of that flash of déjà vu she had felt upon seeing his face for the first time. Maybe they had met before. Most people who lived in the 21st arrondissement got their baked goods from her parents’ bakery, and Marinette often worked the front counter. They must have had at least one encounter before as their civilian selves.
It was almost a shame.
She would have loved to know that her favorite person was just around the corner.
He tightened his grip on her hand as she turned back to face him. “Almost too good to be true,” he said, echoing her thoughts.
All lamentations of lost time were forgotten at that, and she chose instead to be happy in the moment they had now. She smiled, squeezing his hand back.
They were content to spend the short ride in comfortable silence after having spent the majority of their time together with endless conversations. Adrien’s bodyguard didn’t ask any questions after Marinette gave her address, so she saw no reason to try chatting with him when she could cuddle into Adrien’s arm instead. The world was pink and fuzzy, and the only leather pressed against her skin was that of the car seats. Feeling the rise and fall of Chat Noir’s breaths through warm cotton was a wholly different, welcome experience.
The ride was too short, however, and before she knew it, they had pulled up in front of her family’s bakery.
Adrien’s short intake of breath pulled her eyes upwards, and she noticed him staring at the sign with eyes full of wonder. “Whoa, you live so close to the boulangerie,” he noted.
Marinette grinned. “Well, yeah, I live above it,” she said, delighted when his head whipped back to face her. “My parents own it.”
His eyes looked about ready to bulge out of their sockets. “You do?”
She pointed to the sign. “And I designed the logo. Tom and Sabine Boulangerie,” —she turned the finger towards herself— “Tom and Sabine daughter.”
Adrien’s face was painted with the most excitement she had seen from him all day. “That’s so cool! They have the best macarons— I’ve had some at events when we get catering— and I’ve asked Nathalie a few times, but, well–” His face was a bit pink as he paused. “You’re amazing, Marinette.”
“I’ll have to bring you some macarons next time I see you,” she giggled.
His eyebrows danced over his eyes. “Now I know why you’re so sweet.”
“Oh, hush.” She lightly shoved his shoulder. “Takes one to know one.”
Following some pointed clearings of the throat from the driver’s seat, they eventually got out of the car and Adrien walked her to her door. She left him with a quick kiss and a promise to text him later.
The remainder of the day went by in a blissful blur. Dinner, homework, and television with her parents faded into the background as she slipped lovingly into her daydreams. Adrien was too busy to talk, but he had sent her a few hearts and memes throughout the evening, and she looked over all of them with her chest fit to burst. Before she knew it, it was time for bed and they were texting each other good night.
It wasn’t until the next morning that Marinette realized the true shift the world had undergone.
The incessant buzzing of her phone was an unwanted wakeup call. Marinette blindly slapped her hand against the mattress until her fingers met the smooth plastic of her phone case. She slowly cracked her eyes open as the screen lit up again with notifications.
New Message - 🦊Alya🔥(32), Missed Call - 🦊Alya🔥 (2), New Message - Adrien ♥️🐈
Wondering what was so desperate for Alya to be blowing up her phone so early, Marinette quickly responded to Adrien’s “Good morning <3” in kind before opening the floodgates. She was immediately treated to a number of news articles, all caps messages, and photos. Photos of her and Adrien.
Her fingers flew through the slideshow of photographs: Adrien waiting alone with those ridiculous sunglasses, herself haphazardly draped over the table, Adrien kissing her hand, the both of them stepping into his car. She paused on one of the last photos. It was of the two of them, hand-in-hand as they waited for their ride. Adrien’s soft eyes that had mesmerized her up close were just as soft from a careful distance.
She blinked rapidly as she processed it all.
How did Alya get these?
Scrolling back up in her conversation history with Alya, she looked at the articles again, scanning over the headlines: “Adrien Agreste - Dating?” “Adrien Hits the Town with Mystery Girl!” “Who Caught the Eye of Adrien Agreste?” “Agreste Son is Growing Up!”
…Agreste?
The conversation shot down to the bottom as another text from Alya came in: CANT BELIEVE YOU DIDNT TELL ME????
Faster than she could process, Marinette swiped away from her messages to plug “Adrien Agreste'' into her search engine. A shocking thousands of images popped up, all of her boyfriend in various poses and campaigns— including one with the bowler hat she had designed for a competition run by Gabriel Agreste.
A banner notification popped up at the top of her screen, Marinette’s finger tapping it automatically.
Adrien ♥️🐈: I have a photoshoot until around noon, but do you want to get ice cream after?
Marinette dropped the phone as everything suddenly became clear.
Perhaps maybe their civilian relationship wasn’t about to be quite as low-key as she thought.

"YOU JUST WANT HER TO STAY THE SAME!" - A short essay on the misconception of why people wanted Chloe to be redeemed.
Interpretations are important when it comes to understanding media and despite what some people may say, there's never "one true interpretation" of a piece of media. At this point, it's been at least a couple months since the fifth season of Miraculous had ended and it's been at least a month less than that since the movie had premiered. In both cases, even though she just barely qualifies as being a main character in the franchise, Chloe had become a hot topic in both iterations. In the show, she started out as your stock mean girl archetype, started to gain some depth in Seasons 2 and 3, and then suddenly nose-dived into being the resident Hate Sink come Season 4 and onwards while any bit of depth she had was stripped away from her. In the movie, she started out as relatively the same as she did in the show, but what's interesting is how her progression in the movie was handled in that there barely was any progression for her in either path. There wasn't a path of redemption written for her, but she wasn't thrown into the Hate Sink like what the latter half of the show did with her. In fact, even though the movie gave her an extremely petty motivation to bully Marinette, she's somehow better than how the show depicted her because she actually has a motivation, albeit a petty one, and yet she's somehow shown to be less of a monstrous psychopath that the show tried desperately to make her out to be. Granted, I do feel like something is lost with Zag retconning out most of Chloe and Adrien's past friendship, but the rest of the writing for Movie Adrien more than made up for that because Adrien actually feels like his own character instead of someone morphed into an accessory for Marinette. Same goes for Movie Marinette for that matter because even though they don't have a backstory together, Chloe's bullying of Marinette actually holds weight and Marinette felt more like a genuine introvert than the neurotically creepy mess she was in the show and to whom the writers spent the last season desperately attempting to justify the questionable actions of. All that said, the movie did a lot of right in terms of characterization and while Chloe, Nino, and Alya had reduced roles, they were still written pretty nicely and I hope to see this version of these characters again should Zag pen another sequel.
Even so, it led me to think about something that's been bothering me concerning Chloe and the discourse surrounding her. Even now, especially after how the fifth season's finale played out, the debate for whether or not Chloe should've been redeemed is still ongoing and it's very clear that the show had only served to strengthen those who said she never deserved to be redeemed to begin with. While there's a lot to debate over this, I do feel like there's one particular idea among those who are against a redemption for Chloe that's just completely wrong and deserves to be called out. Namely, a lot of people who argue against Chloe being redeemed seem to have this assumption that those who do want that are defending all of Chloe's actions or worse, that those who are pro-redemption actually just want Chloe to remain the same character-wise while she gets to be a hero again. Honestly, it's baffling that people would believe that Chloe fans who wish for a redemption just want Chloe to remain the same bully she always was even though that is literally the opposite of what most Chloe fans want and completely goes against the point of her having a redemption arc to begin with.
Now the reason I said this is the opposite of what MOST Chloe fans want is because there are indeed some fans of Chloe who do think she did nothing wrong and that she should be given the hero spot because Marinette is just being stupid. These fans usually come from people who get most of their ideas for Miraculous from watching goons like CyrusLovesOwlCity and to put it simply, these people are wrong and should not be taken seriously. Frankly, they're no different from any Marinette stan or Adrien stan who argue until they're blue in the face about how their respective characters did nothing wrong while violently salting any other character, including each other, that did something even slightly negative to their favorites. Those people do not deserve to be allowed in any polite conversation involving Miraculous regardless of which character they do it for.
In any case, despite what people might think, a lot of Chloe fans do want to see her change and stop being a bully. They want to actually watch her learn that what she's doing is wrong and thus improve herself. Of course, the showrunners seem to vehemently disagree with the concept of her ever becoming better and actively shoot down any possible hint of that happening. People will argue that there were never any hints to begin with and that Chloe fans are just being delusional, but that's where interpretations come in. While one could easily just say that Chloe is just impossible to redeem and one can even dive deep to even find reasons as to why that is, people can also look deep enough to find reasons as to why Chloe CAN be redeemed. While there's no true evidence that Chloe had a hidden heart of gold, there is evidence to show that she's much more sensitive and insecure than she lets on, primarily seen in any episode where Audrey is a primary character. Moreover, while Chloe is more of an overt bully in the movies, the scene of the ball towards the end of the movie does indicate that while Chloe still has a front, she does respect Marinette to an extent to the point of allowing her to dance with Adrien. This latter scene does seem to lean more into what Chloe fans actually want in that even though she is a bully, she's also starting to grow and it does seem like there's hope that she could get out of that role instead of just getting worse and being treated as a worse person than someone who attempted genocide and someone who wanted to erase reality.
With all that said, I feel like one more thing that needs to be addressed is that some people seem to believe that Chloe fans only complain about the show's writing when Chloe looks bad. While it may seem like cope, when people are complaining about it for multiple characters that arguably span the entire show, I don't think they're just complaining because one character is written in a bad light. Kagami, Nino, and Alya are just some of the other characters that come to mind when talking about how bad the writing is and of course, when Marinette and Adrien get their awful moments, a lot of their fans seem quick to jump to bringing up "bad writing" as a complaint as well with them often rewriting these characters to fit how they themselves view them. Frankly, if those fans are allowed to just create their own versions of these characters, I don't see why Chloe fans shouldn't be granted that same luxury for Chloe herself.
Overall, while the future of the show is uncertain, it's clear that Chloe's fandom is never going to truly disappear no matter how much people try to make that happen. All that said, you shouldn't just assume that a Chloe fan just wants her to get away with everything and be treated as a hero without having to change. Ultimately, you shouldn't just accuse a fan of Chloe of defending all of her bad actions just because they want her to be better. Save that negative energy for the people who unironically say that she did nothing wrong and then actively salt other characters for her. This is a lot to write, but I really wanted to get my thoughts out there and hopefully clear some things up.
Also, people who say that Marinette is somehow the true bully do not belong in the Miraculous fandom. Simple as.

(for monologue ask game) Post Face-Heel turn Marinette (as BugNoire) tells dying Gabriel that "it's time for Paris to be ruled by someone that 'deserves it'" after taking away his "Infinity Gautlet" (you know what I mean)
Bug noire held the hand of a desperate Gabriel, he tried to use venom but she stopped him. One word and the rings would be destroyed.
“I can just say the word and the rings will be destroyed. You'll be powerless. The Kwamis will be free. Thanks to my magic ladybugs, I'll repair the chaos YOU created. Then, I'll send Plagg out to give the Black Cat Miraculous back to its holder, and everything will be back to normal. Checkmate.”
She could read the desperate expression on Gabriel’s face.
But instead of feeling pity, her emotions shift. It’s a red hot anger. How could he go to such lengths, how could he manipulate his son? How could he let himself do this.
Mercy? Compassion? Her nightmare made her think that killing him accidentally or letting him die would sadden Adrien. But maybe that was the wrong thinking. She has the power now. She Could fix everything.
With a quick motion, she yanks the rings off his fingers, causing them to fall on the floor.
Gabriel tried to grasp at them, but Bug noire grabbed his throat.
“You know, ever since I got the Miraculous. All I’ve seen are the adults in my life let corruption run rampant and cruel people get their desires. No matter how many akuma i fight, it only seems to get worse. And letting you go would be the biggest mistake.”
She tosses him into the glass coffin. Leaving a crack.
“Tikki Spots off, Plagg Claws in.”
The two kwami pop out.
“Marinette what are you doing?” Tikki said in fear.
“Reveal yourselves.”
The small kwami transformed into their true forms. Tikki the Kwami of Creation. everything that isn't yet and is yet to be. Plagg the Kwami of Destruction, everything that is and no longer will be.
Gabriel stumbled trying to get up.
“Gimmi, reveal yourself.”
Plagg and Tikki merged into a giant kwami, the kwami of reality, Gimmi.
Marinette looked at Gabriel.
“I should thank you, it’s only after seeing your depravity that I realize this mess can’t be fixed with a good attitude and hope. True change takes power. It’s Time for Paris to be ruled by someone that deserves it.”
Gimmi looked at Marinette. Knowing that they were only summoned to grant a wish.
“What is your wish?”
Marinette smiled
“Read my heart.”
“What do you exchange?”
Marinette’s gaze fell onto Gabriel
“Read my soul.”
“So be it.”
Gabriel noticed he was being lifted into the air. He realized what was about to happen.
“Please… not this.” He begged
“Goodbye Gabriel. No one will mourn you.”

With all this talk of the new Velma show I went back to rewatch Mystery Inc. bc I hadn’t seen it in forever…
And I swear Fred with his “I didn’t want to mess up our friendship” is even worse than Adrien with his “really good friend Marinette”
We love hot, dumb, oblivious, blondes.
