Chelsea is from Michigan (U.S.A.). She was flown to California where the Specialized Videos SF model was shot by Trevor Spiro, the web-master/web producer sensation from SmokinStyle based in London!
THE VIDEO OF THE WEEK (HONORABLE MENTION) | POST NUMBER 7 (No. 7)
For the Week of 100923-101523
★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ | Four-and-a-Half "Stars"
From vs120shound staff | ★★★★★ (9 total: L)
Tri-Media 8-Post, 27-Pack (Megapost)!
Beautiful Chelsea with Marlboro Lights 100s!
Two worlds collided and when the dust settled . . . when the smoke cleared from our Smoking Darling's lips . . . we were left with this masterpiece that falls shy of perfection only because the inspiration, agreement and execution of this outside-the-"motha phuquing"-box concept was conceived before the advent of High-Def videography!
. . . well, this is one of the prime examples of a collaborative effort between two leading SF websites, each with tremendous followings in the first decade of this century and into the midway point of the next decade, the one that finished at the start of 2020. Chelsea, from Specialized Videos (Michigan, U.S.A.) met with Trevor Spiro, the driving force of SmokinStyle (London, U.K.), somewhere in California. There, the SmokinStyle web-master/web producer, did his magic. Spiro is regarded by many as the pre-eminent cameraman for Smoking Fetish. He was a fashion model photographer among the many roles he's had in his professional career. Pure magic, this! The equipment in the 2000s and into the early 2010s did not feature High Definition (High Def). Just beginning to take root within the photography/videography world after this joint project. Great video scenes captured by Spiro. But we can assume it did not quite go swimmingly for not another shoot was arranged among Spiro, Chelsea and Scott, the web-master/web producer for SV. What a shame! So for as outstanding as this work was -- still is, despite the lack of High Def -- it kind of serves as a teaser to a degree, giving those who marveled about the finished product, it left those fans wanting more. Naturally.
Scott was no slouch behind the camera but he did not have the background to bring SV's quality to a higher, better level . . . anything along the lines of what Spiro was producing on a regular basis. Did not have the training or the ingenuity or experimental nature to try different approaches from the standard way he went about shooting his beautiful SF models. He got the best out of what he could offer on the technical end -- videography, photography (SV had plenty of stills offered for sale on its website, www.specializedvideos.com) -- as well as with editing and production values used. Where Scott stood out among rival web-masters/web producers was his strong, penetrating interview style that he conducted nearly on a consistent basis. And his approach was gentle, not like a journalist grilling a politician. Friendly manner was employed in all of his interviews. He asked all the basics -- how did you start; who was there with you offering advice and support; what was the reaction of friends and family; what has been the history of brands; has there been an attempt to quit smoking yet; have you gotten into trouble by smoking -- and his follow-ups flowed; they did not come from a pre-arranged line of questioning from a list. Actually, our favorite interviewer, and by a wide margin. That style and those methods helped him, we're sure, in developing rapport with his great (beautiful, strong-smoking, personable, down-to-earth, plentiful) stable of SF models.
Chelsea is strikingly beautiful, so pretty. Cute, too. Knockout body but probably never considered entering a "Ms. Boobs!" contest. Warm personality. Friendly. Down to earth. Quite pleasant. Many comments about her videos close to two decades ago often centered around her looks and the belief of many that she could have had a future as a fashion model, if she so chose! We never know what she gravitated towards in her post-SF modeling days. One thing's for certain: She is pushing 40 y.o. by now. Definitely in her mid-30s in the very least. Chelsea is in a different chapter of her life nowadays from her Specialized Videos (and combined Specialized Videos/SmokinStyle) days. That's for sure. Perhaps she's moved into and through various stages of adolescence and adulthood. If she's on the cusp of the Big-4-Oh threshold, then middle-age will be beckoning soon. That's the deal. We just remain grateful she contributed on to the Greater SF World Community scene for as long as she did, with as many videos of her that were produced and distributed! Chelsea rocks!

The Way to Start the New Year by glass_rose_paperweight (G, 4,251 w., 1 Ch. || New Year's Eve, Fluff, Pining John) – On New Year's Eve, Sherlock drags John to America for a case, much to John's frustration. However, a mistake in booking looks like it might lead to an even worse New Year's Even than John originally thought ... or, maybe it's just what the boys need.
This Year by DiscordantWords (T, 6,283 w., 2 Ch. || TEH Divergence / No Mary, New Year’s Eve, John’s A Mess, Jealous John, Awkward Conversations, Trapped in a Closet, Estranged After Return, John POV, Semi-Reunion, Angry John, First Kiss, Reconciliation, Clueless Sherlock, Happy Ending) – Last year, Sherlock Holmes showed up at the Landmark with a fake moustache and a bad French accent and threw John's entire life into disarray with two words: "Not dead." This year, there are more surprises in store.
Wonderful, Etcetera. by VictoryCandescence (T, 16,955 w., 3 Ch. || Wonderful Life AU || Alternate Timelines, Brotherhood, Homophobia, Suicidal Ideations, Mentions of Drug Use, Friendship, Different TRF, Sherlock’s Past, Victor Trevor is Past Boyfriend, Depression, Hallucination?, Love Confessions, Christmas, First Kiss) – Sherlock thinks everyone would be better off if he had never existed, including and especially himself. When he finds himself in a world in which his wish has been granted, he begins to think perhaps even he could be wrong – but it takes an unlikely chaperone to make him not only observe, but understand.
Deck the Halls by itsalwaysyou_jw (T, 31,018 w., 24 Ch. || Advent Fic / Multiple One-Shots, Assorted Tags) – One Johnlock ficlet for every day leading up to Christmas. Who is ready for pining, first kisses, established Johnlock, and everything in between? This collection of stand-alone ficlets will have it all.
Not Broken, Just Bent by Schmiezi (E, 87,585 w., 43 Ch. || Pining, Love Confessions, Rape/Sexual Assault, Torture, Hurt/Comfort, Heavy Angst, Villain!Mary, Suicidal Ideations, Main Character Death, Sherlock First Person POV, Parentlock, Sherlock’s Mind Palace, Grief/Mourning, Emotional Love Making, Possessiveness, Depression, PTSD, Kidnapping, Virgin Sherlock, Eventual Happy Ending) – "For a second, I allow myself to remember teaching John how to waltz. There is a special room in my mind palace for it. A big one, with a proper parquet dance floor. For a second, I go there. I remember holding him, closer than the World Dance Council asks for, excusing it with the fact that we are training for a wedding, not for a competition. For a second, I feel his hand on mine again, smell his sweat, hear the song we used. For a second, I allow myself to love him deeply. For a second, only a second, that love reflects on my face." Fix-it for S3, starting at the end of TSoT. Evil Mary.
Bakers with Benefits by Raina_at (E, 88,130 w., 14 Ch. || Great British Bake Off AU || Strangers to Lovers, Switchlock, Friends with Benefits, Mentions of Alcoholism / Past Drug Use, Banter, Flirting, Fluff, Light Angst, Semi-Public Sex, Past Sherlock/Victor, Mutual Pining, POV Sherlock, Obsessive Sherlock, John’s Bum) – Sherlock Holmes has a successful YouTube baking channel, but what he really wants is his own bakery. When an old friend sends him a call for the very first Great British Bake Off, he seizes the opportunity to finally win a sponsor for his bakery. Here's the plan: Win Bake Off, get the bakery, don't fall in love with the handsome Army doctor at the neighbouring station. Easy.
The Lost Special: Family Matters (As Do Relationships) by ShirleyCarlton (M, 144,688 w., 40 Ch. || S4 Fix It Fic / Meta Fic, Unreliable Narrator, John’s Mind Bungalow, Friends to Lovers, Happy Ending, Demisexual Sherlock, Holmes Family, John Whump, Gay Mycroft, Misunderstandings, Drug Addiction, Parenting, TFP is a Nightmare, Virgin Sherlock, Slow Burn, Minor Character Death, Switchlock, John’s Past, Sherlock’s Past, Eurus, Love Confessions) –Sherrinford is not really the name of some high security prison. That was just a figment of John’s frantic coma dream. And Eurus is not actually Sherlock’s sister. That’s just something random she said to John before shooting him. Sherlock and John were never actually estranged. That was just their act to cover up what really happened to Mary – or Rosamund Moran, as her real name has turned out to be. Sherlock does have a secret sibling, though, and his name is Sherrinford. After finally eliminating Moran – though in a rather dramatically different way than they had envisioned – and exposing the truth about Eurus, John encourages Sherlock to delve into his past and to find out whether the reasons to keep Sherrinford away from Sherlock were the right ones, and to discover what really happened in 1981. Along the way, Sherlock and John gradually, finally, stop keeping each other at a distance, and eventually become a proper family of their own.
WORKS IN PROGRESS
Christmas with You by hey_there_buddy (NR, 3,258+ w., 11/? Ch. || WiP || Christmas, Marriage Proposal, Tooth-Rotting Fluff, Established Relationship, Waltzing, Morning Kisses) – Sherlock wants to propose John and he came up with his own idea.
From the First Time That I Saw You by BookGirlWithLove (E, 6,813+ w., 4/16 Ch. || WiP || Actor John AU || Christmas, Meet Cute) – Sherlock Holmes very rarely paid any attention to popular culture. He didn’t listen to the radio or watch telly. He seldom watched films. Unless that film had a certain actor in it. A certain actor who, while he might not be on everyone’s favourite list, was most certainly on Sherlock’s. In fact, he was the only celebrity to ever give Sherlock pause, which said a lot. That actor was John Watson. Who was currently standing in Sherlock’s sitting room, awkwardly holding two bottles of wine.
Christmas in Honeycutt by helloliriels (T, 25,768+ w., 12/16 Ch. || WIP || Christmas in Connecticut AU / WWII AU || Kidnapping, Spies / Secret Agents, Codes & Ciphers, Past Relationships, Developing Relationship, Fake Marriage, Fluff and Angst, Happy Ending) – John's publisher asks if his family could entertain a war hero at their idyllic estate in Somerset for Christmas. Only ... John doesn't have a wife ... or a daughter. Or an estate. He has a bedsit. In London. And some wounds of his own to recover from ... but he can't tell his publisher that or he'll get fired … What's a writer to do? Cracking Codes. Super Spies. Sherlock in Disguise. A wild Christmas romance set in the countryside! Just what the doctor ordered! Part 6 of the Liriels Chaptered Fics series
The Prince of Hearts by prettysailorsoldier (M, 46,206+ w., 12/? Ch. || Modern Royalty AU || WiP || Matchmaker Sherlock, Prince John, Enemies to Friends to Lovers, Sexual Tension, Mutual Pining, Christmas, Fluff) – Sherlock Holmes is making big waves in London as the head of a thriving matchmaking firm, his unconventional approach earning him the title 'The Chemist'. To Sherlock, love is in the data, a collection of variables plugged into equations to calculate the perfect match, but, when the royal family of the small country of Galerre hires him to find a spouse for the crown prince, he will find that some matters of the heart are not so easily solved.
Since First I Saw Your Face by Stavia_Scott_Grayson (M, 398,966+ w., 19/22 Ch. || WiP || ACD Canon / 1884 Victorian AU || Friends to Lovers, Pining, UST/URT, POV Sherlock, Christmas, Developing Relationship, Turkish Baths, Victorian Attitudes, Sussex Holiday, Cocaine, Holmes’ Childhood, Cold Cases, References to Canon) – During the Great Hiatus, Holmes, studying in Tibet, reflects on his first meeting with Dr John Watson.

Midwinter fic masterlist
Because I've written a bit about this time of year, as part of various exchanges and my own prompting events, and it's probably about time I brought them all together...
Set in Imladris:
Firelight, G, Glorfindel, in the Hall of Fire close to Midwinter, thinks this might possibly be his favourite time of the year in Imladris. (Glorfindel, mentions of Erestor, Elrond, Lindir, Arwen, Elladan and Elrohir, very faintly implied Glorfindel/Erestor if you squint), @officialtolkiensecretsanta advent calendar 2020
Come Home, G, Elrohir has always been fascinated with the story of Maglor. One Midwinter, he finally has the opportunity to do something about it. (Elrohir, Elladan, Elrond, Maglor, Arwen, Erestor, Glorfindel, Galadriel, mention of Celeborn (he's there but he doesn't actually say anything XD )), @officialtolkiensecretsanta gift 2020
Flowers in Winter, G, Glorfindel, it turns out, does not particularly like the winter. Erestor resolves to do something about it, and to remind him that spring will come again. (Erestor/Glorfindel, Arwen, Elladan, Elrohir, Haldir, mention of Orophin and Rúmil), @officialtolkiensecretsanta gift 2021
Sugar and Diamonds, G, Celebrían, visiting Imladris for Midwinter with her mother, has a very important conversation with Elrond. (Celebrían/Elrond), @officialtolkiensecretsanta gift 2022
Through Storms and Nightmares, T, When they are ambushed by Orcs on the way from Isengard to Imladris, and Glorfindel is injured, Erestor has no choice but to defend his beloved. Once they are safe, Erestor must learn to let Elrond and Glorfindel help him face his demons at last. (Erestor/Glorfindel, Elrond, Elladan, Elrohir), @officialtolkiensecretsanta gift 2022 (not super Midwintery, but it is set at that time of year)
Pockets At The Ends, G, Arwen wants to cheer up Erestor when she works out that he's extra-grumpy because he doesn't like the winter, and Elladan and Elrohir lend a hand. (Erestor, Arwen, Elladan, Elrohir, Elrond, Celebrían, mention of Glorfindel)
Set in Dale:
Should All The Stars Shine In The Sky, G, It is the first Midwinter celebration in Dale, after the Battle of the Five Armies. Bard and Thranduil are in the thick of the festivities, and Sigrid and Tauriel are stargazing on a rooftop; there are all kinds of magic abroad on this, the longest night of the year. (Bard/Thranduil, Sigrid/Tauriel, Bain and Tilda are there too), @haveahappyhobbitholiday gift 2020
Caught Like Stars, G, Thranduil has his reasons for accepting Bard's invitation to celebrate Midwinter in Dale, but he isn't quite expecting anything that happens after he arrives. (Bard/Thranduil, Sigrid, Bain, Tilda, Legolas, Tauriel), @haveahappyhobbitholiday gift 2021
Hilda's Grandma's Special Secret Recipe, G, Thranduil spends Midwinter in Dale with his new family for the first time, and is horrified to discover what they do to wine. (Bard/Thranduil, Sigrid, Bain, Tilda, Tauriel, Hilda), @officialtolkiensecretsanta advent calendar 2021, part of My Heart Is An Empty Vessel-'verse
See This Storm Through chapter 6, T, The family celebrate their first Midwinter without Bard, Bain steps into his Da's shoes…and a few days later, Legolas and Thranduil set out to return to the Woodland Realm. (Legolas, Thranduil, Sigrid, Bain, Tilda, Lotta (Bain's wife), Brand, Astrid and Ingrid (Brand's sisters), Erik (Bain and Lotta's childhood friend), Einar (landlord of the Golden Dragon, best tavern in Dale)), part of My Heart Is An Empty Vessel-'verse
A Different Idea Of Magic, G, Tilda discovers that the snow reacts to her Ada in a totally different way than it does to her. (Bard/Thranduil, Tilda, Sigrid, Bain), part of My Heart Is An Empty Vessel-'verse
Home At Last, G, Legolas makes his way to Dale for Midwinter, hoping to surprise his family. (Legolas, Bard/Thranduil, Sigrid, Tauriel, Tilda, Bain, Lotta (Bain's wife), Brand, Astrid and Ingrid (Brand's sisters)), @officialtolkiensecretsanta advent calendar 2022, part of My Heart Is An Empty Vessel-'verse
Modern AUs:
It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like..., T, Bard can't work out why he keeps having to deliver parcels to Greenwood Hall. Thranduil feels strangely drawn to the handsome delivery driver. It's nearly Christmas, and a few of Santa's little helpers decide to give the two of them a bit of a shove in each other's direction… (Bard/Thranduil, Sigrid/Tauriel, Bain, Tilda, Legolas), aka that one time I wrote a daft Christmas movie AU and it spiralled into a full-blown AU...
All I Want (for Christmas) is You, G, The Bowman-Greenwood family are celebrating their first proper Christmas together as - well, as the Bowman-Greenwood family. (Bard/Thranduil, Sigrid/Tauriel, Bain, Tilda, Legolas/Kíli (only just but still)), aka that one time I asked for a load of prompts and ended up writing a Christmas special for the daft Christmas movie AU...
a kiss in the cold and dark (i should have kissed you that summer), M, Watching his kids on the ice rink at the Christmas market, Bard sees a familiar face, someone he hasn't seen for over twenty years. Someone he never quite resolved things with, all that time ago… (Bard/Thranduil, Sigrid/Tauriel, Bain, Tilda, Tauriel, Legolas), @officialtolkiensecretsanta gift 2021
Other fandoms:
Do I Have To?, G, MCU - Hawkeye (TV), Clint takes a couple of waifs and strays home with him to Iowa for Christmas. (Clint Barton, Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, Laura Barton, Cooper Barton, Lila Barton, Nate Barton)
Holly and Scratches, interlude in A Quiet Understanding, T, King Arthur (2004), The knights celebrate the Winter Solstice at the Wall, a couple of years before the events of the film (Gawain/Galahad)

Hidden Gems by oldenuf2nb
Another author who’s been around for a long time - and lucky us, they’re still active in the fandom! 🙌 Their advent fics are among my favourite comfort reads, and I love how easily they go from short form to long form, always delivering original plots and amazing world building. It’s humbling and comforting to think we have someone so talented dedicated to raising the number of 50k fics (a perfect length imho!). I especially recommend olden if you’re into kid fic and established relationship, there are many lovely tales including these tropes in their catalogue. Here are some of my faves:
The One Where Draco Loses his Mind and Gains a Boyfriend collab with sassy_cissa (2020, E, 19k) - pretend relationship, snarky Draco, get together, super hot smut!!
“How is it Potter can manage to drive me crazy and yet make me want to help him? I have to have lost my mind to even consider this insanity." Read my rec here.
The Deeper Symbolism Behind Golden Apples (2015, M, 26k) - Head Auror Harry, Sculptor Draco, getting back together, Harry & Pansy friendship!
When the Wizengamot insists Chief Auror Harry Potter pose for a statue for the Ministry Atrium, why are his friends reluctant to tell him who the sculptor is?
What You Do With Your Life, A.H.K.B.C.B. (After the Hero Kills the Batshit Crazy Bastard) (2008, E, 39k) - my personal favourite! Peak enemies to lovers romance with fluff & humour & smut, a delightful Draco and an even better Pansy!
Draco Malfoy had waited years in hope of seeing Harry Potter utterly humiliated....
The Kisses Don’t Count, If No One Else Knows (2020, E, 41k) - Politics & Love! Minister for Magic Harry, Quidditch player Draco, badass security detail Ron! And also fwb to lovers, secret relationship, banter, pining Harry and scorching hot smut 👌🏼
Minister for Magic Harry Potter does not love his job. The one bright point in his life is his secret relationship with Quidditch Super Star Draco Malfoy. When they're 'outed' by a peeping tom with a camera, Harry has to decide what's really important.
The Magic Behind the Camera (2021, E, 55k) - recluse photographer Harry, magazine editor Draco, identity porn, slow burn
Magical Photographer Evan Peverell is an enigma, one magazine assistant editor Draco Malfoy finds fascinating. The 'rock star' photog, with his purple hair streak and assorted piercings, is not remotely Draco's type. And yet there's just something about him…
The Sinner’s Redemption (2019, E, 55k) - soft dads falling in love, down and out Draco, protective Harry
When Headmaster, Harry Potter, loses his Potions Professor - is he willing to fight the system to employ the one person he knows will excel in the position? Read my rec here.
Special Gifts (2007, E, 129k) - Seer Harry & Professor Draco slow burn, past Harry/Ron, ghost!Ron, Hermione bashing
Ten years after a devastating accident costs Harry Potter the love of his life and leaves him with life altering injuries, he is asked to return to Hogwarts to help the child of an old friend, with the help of an old adversary.

'Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy as the titular leader of the Manhattan Project and father of the atomic bomb, hits theaters on July 21, 2023. News broke in 2021 that Oppenheimer would be Nolan's next project, following the director's tradition of action-packed blockbusters like The Dark Knight, Inception, and Dunkirk. And given that his last feature, 2020's Tenet, was met with mixed reception, all eyes are on Nolan for how Oppenheimer will unfold.
Though it's opening against Greta Gerwig's IP-epic Barbie, Oppenheimer is generating plenty of buzz in its own right, with many theatergoers even planning for a "Barbieheimer" double feature despite the stark differences in content and tone. But one thing the films do have in common is their large, star-studded casts.
"Even though Oppenheimer is at the center of it, we had this incredible ensemble of actors bringing so much to the table," Nolan told EW, adding, "We have to be really on our game, we have to be faithful to the history here, and really know what we're up to."
As we anxiously await its release, EW has compiled everything you need to know about the cast of Oppenheimer.
Cillian Murphy (Robert Oppenheimer)
After a successful run in professional theater, Cillian Murphy was cast by director Danny Boyle in the seminal 2003 zombie flick 28 Days Later. That same year, he appeared in Intermission and Cold Mountain. The actor later reunited with Boyle by starring in the 2007 sci-fi flick Sunshine.
In 2005, he had his first of many collaborations with Nolan by playing the Scarecrow in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Trilogy, followed by a role in Nolan's Inception (2010) and a cameo in Dunkirk (2017). In 2013, Murphy joined the cast of the television show Peaky Blinders, which concluded in 2022. More recently, Murphy was paired with his Oppenheimer costar Emily Blunt in A Quiet Place Part II (2020).
Murphy and Nolan sat down with EW to look back on their many collaborations, but both agreed the advent of Oppenheimer was notably special. "To be able to pick up the phone, and call [Murphy], and be like, 'This is the one where you carry the movie and really get to show what you can do."
That memory is cherished by Murphy as well, who added, "It was one of the best days of my life... I'll always turn up for Chris, no matter what the part is, but, secretly, it's a dream to play a lead part. The thing was, I had no idea. There was no preamble or anything, I just got the call. So it was incredibly exciting, and daunting, and terrifying, all at the same time."
Emily Blunt (Kitty Oppenheimer)
London native Emily Blunt, who plays fellow scientist and wife Kitty Oppenheimer, began acting in theater before moving to film with Paweł Pawlikowski's My Summer of Love (2004). Her next major role is perhaps the one that's stuck to her the most: Emily, the catty assistant to Miranda Priestly in 2006's The Devil Wears Prada (she later became the sister-in-law to costar Stanley Tucci when he married her sister, Felicity).
After her scene-stealing turn in Prada, Blunt began landing more prominent parts. She starred opposite Steve Carell in Dan in Real Life (2007), with Tom Hanks in Charlie Wilson's War the same year, in the indie hit Sunshine Cleaning (2009), and in the big-budget flop The Wolfman (2010). Blunt next moved into action with a role in Edge of Tomorrow (2014) and anchored Denis Villeneuve's gritty thriller Sicario (2015). She then became one of the few actors to embody Mary Poppins with 2018's Mary Poppins Returns, and returned to the Disney fold in the amiable adventure Jungle Cruise (2021).
Blunt previously dated singer Michael Bublé from 2005 to 2008 before she met actor and director John Krasinski in 2008. The couple married in 2010 and share two daughters. Krasinski and Blunt have worked together on both A Quiet Place films, which starred the couple and were written and directed by Krasinski.
Robert Downey Jr. (Lewis Strauss)
Robert Downey Jr. began acting at 5-years-old, but things didn't start taking off for him until he was an adult. His early notable roles include Charlie Chaplin in Chaplin (1992) — for which he was nominated for an Oscar — and Wayne Gayle in Natural Born Killers (1994). Around this time, Downey also began to fall into a spiral of substance abuse and addiction, leading to a number of arrests in the late '90s. In 1999, he was sentenced to three years in prison but served just one before a judge ruled that Downey's combined time spent incarcerated since 1996 counted as his full term.
After his release, Downey began his comeback tour. He joined the cast of Ally McBeal to much acclaim, starred in Mel Gibson's The Singing Detective (2003), terrorized Tim Allen in Disney's The Shaggy Dog (2006) remake, played reporter Paul Avery in David Fincher's masterpiece Zodiac (2007), and joined up with director Jon Favreau for his career-defining role as Tony Stark in Iron Man (2008).
In the midst of his professional renaissance, Downey met his future wife on the set of 2003's potboiler Gothika. Downey married film producer Susan Downey (née Levin) in 2005. They have two children and co-parent Downey's first son, Indio, from his previous marriage to Deborah Falconer.
After joining the MCU, Downey's career took a significant upswing. He appeared in 10 Marvel films, along with two of Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes pictures as the titular detective. Along with his wife, Downey founded Team Downey, a production company that has produced films such as The Judge (2014) and Dolittle (2020).
Downey reports that he has been drug-free for two decades, thanks to his wife and his proclivities for meditation and kung-fu. When asked by Oprah Winfrey how he has been able to stick to his sobriety, Downey told the host, "It's really not that difficult to overcome these seemingly ghastly problems. What's hard is to decide to do it."
Matt Damon (Leslie Groves Jr.)
Practically everyone knows the story of Matt Damon, who with his childhood buddy Ben Affleck went on to script and star in Good Will Hunting (1997), win an Oscar, and kickstart a career of big-budget tent poles and respected awards pictures alike. He went on to give a thrilling performance in 1999's The Talented Mr. Ripley, and shortly thereafter joined the star-studded cast of Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's Eleven and its sequels, Twelve and Thirteen.
The actor soon earned his franchise credentials with four turns as Jason Bourne, beginning with The Bourne Identity and culminating in Jason Bourne (2016). He also worked with Martin Scorsese in The Departed (2006) and re-teamed with frequent collaborator Steven Soderbergh for Contagion (2011). Damon soon won universal acclaim for his turn in The Martian (2015) a year after his first collaboration with Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan, when he played another stranded spaceman in Interstellar (2014).
Recently, Damon starred in the gripping thriller Stillwater (2021), the historical epic The Last Duel (which he also produced and co-scripted with Affleck and Nicole Holofcener), and the 2023 feel-good sneaker biopic Air. As a producer, Damon has worked on Manchester by the Sea (2016) as well as the HBO show Project Greenlight.
The actor shares four daughters with wife Luciana Bozán, with the eldest, Alexia, from her previous marriage.
Florence Pugh (Jean Tatlock)
While still in school, Florence Pugh made her acting debut in Carol Morley's film The Falling (2014), where she earned rave reviews and quickly went on to give a searing performance in Lady Macbeth (2016), as well as in Marcella (2016) and The Commuter (2018). Pugh then earned mainstream acclaim with 2019's feel-good sports comedy Fighting with My Family. The same year, she starred in Ari Aster's psychological folk horror film Midsommar. At the end of 2019, she played Amy in Greta Gerwig's tremendous adaptation of Little Women.
Pugh next starred as Yelena Belova in Black Widow and the Disney+ series Hawkeye before taking a much talked about role in Olivia Wilde's Don't Worry Darling (2022). In 2022, she also appeared in The Wonder and as Goldilocks in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, followed by a starring turn in her ex-partner Zach Braff's directorial effort A Good Person.
As for playing Jean Tatlock, fellow scientist and lover to Oppenheimer, Pugh told BBC Radio 1,"Working with Christopher Nolan was quite possibly one of the most thrilling experiences in a different way, partly because he works with professionals. He is a professional. But his dedication to the craft of filmmaking and old filmmaking is just magical to watch."
She continued: "To just watch every single crew member on that set work so hard for him, to get his approval… Everybody is constantly trying to be better the next day. And I've never seen that feeling on set before."
Dylan Arnold (Frank Oppenheimer)
Dylan Arnold made his acting debut in 2012's Fat Kid Rules the World before going on to act alongside Keira Knightley in Laggies (2014). He appeared in Mudbound (2017) and on episodes of SWAT, The Purge, and Nashville before netting a key supporting role in David Gordon Green's 2018 Halloween reboot and its sequel, Halloween Kills (2021). In 2021, Arnold joined the third season of You as Theo Engler. He'll appear in Oppenheimer as Frank, younger brother to Robert and physicist in his own right.
Benny Safdie (Edward Teller)
Director and actor Benny Safdie has collaborated with brother Josh Safdie on several feature films, including Daddy Longlegs (2009), The Black Balloon (2012), Good Time (2017), and Uncut Gems (2019). With Good Time, Safdie moved in front of the camera to give a critically acclaimed performance as Robert Pattinson's brother. More roles in Pieces of a Woman (2020) and Paul Thomas Anderson's Licorice Pizza (2021) shortly followed.
In 2022, Safdie appeared in Claire Denis' erotic thriller Stars at Noon, and later gave an astounding performance in one of the 2023's best films, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, playing Margaret's father. He has been married to Ava Safdie since 2013, and the couple shares three children.
Gary Oldman (Harry S. Truman)
Gary Oldman is no stranger to working with Christpher Nolan, having appeared as Commissioner Gordon in the director's Dark Knight Trilogy. The actor began his career in London theater in the late '70s, appearing in Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet, before moving into film, essaying memorable roles in Mike Leigh's Meantime (1983) and as Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy (1986).
The next decade brought Oldman acclaim overseas for his performance of the title monster in Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), as well as the amped-up villain in Léon: The Professional (1994). Oldman has since been nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars three times for his roles in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011), Mank (2020), and Darkest Hour (2017) — the latter of which he won.
He was previously married to actress Lesley Manville, and the two share a son together. Oldman married Uma Thurman in 1990, but they were divorced two years later. Since 2017, Oldman has been married to art curator and writer Gisele Schmidt.
Tom Conti (Albert Einstein)
Scottish actor, director, and author Tom Conti got his start in the theater in 1959, later winning a Tony in 1979 for Best Actor in a Play for Whose Life Is It Anyway? After transitioning to film in the '70s, his noteworthy early roles included Reuben, Reuben and Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, both in 1985. Conti also appeared alongside Jennifer Aniston in Derailed (2005), in Julie Taymor's The Tempest (2010), played a prisoner in Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises (2012), and appeared as Judge Gerald Biggleswade in everyone's favorite movie, Paddington 2 (2018).
Conti has been married to actress Kara Wilson since 1967. The couple shares one daughter, Nina, an actress and ventriloquist.
Jack Quaid (Richard Feynman)
Son of Hollywood royalty Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid, Jack Quaid made his film debut in The Hunger Games franchise as Marvel. He appeared in Logan Lucky (2017), rose to fame as Hughie Campbell on The Boys (2019-present), and blew the roof off of Scream (2022). He's also racked up an impressive list of voice credits in Batman: The Long Halloween as well as Star Trek: Lower Decks, not to mention as one of the Peter Parkers in 2023's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Playing Manhattan Project physicist Richard Feynman, Quaid shared in an interview with GQ (via FandomWire) that even just being on the set was intoxicating for him as an actor. "Shooting that was such an incredible experience. Like, I'm like a blip in that movie, but it was just so incredible to sit there and watch true masters do what they do."
Michael Angarano (Robert Serber)
Michael Angarano has enjoyed memorable roles in the films Almost Famous (2000), Seabiscuit (2003), Sky High (2005), and The Forbidden Kingdom (2008), as well as the television show Will & Grace in which he played Elliot, the son of Jack McFarland (Sean Hayes).
Angarano appeared with his Oppenheimer costar Olivia Thirlby in Snow Angels (2007) and had a memorable role in Steven Soderbergh's brilliant actioner Haywire (2011). In 2015, he starred in Wild Card and reunited with Thirlby in The Stanford Prison Experiment. More recent roles have included guest spots on series such as PEN15, Minx, and Angelyne.
Angarano is currently directing the upcoming film Sacramento, which stars himself, Kristen Stewart, and Michael Cera.
Josh Hartnett (Ernest Lawrence)
Josh Hartnett made his film debut in Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998), and starred in The Faculty the same year. He appeared in dueling war films (Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor) and a raunchy teen comedy (40 Days and 40 Nights) before recalibrating with roles in Brian De Palma's The Black Dahlia (2006), Lucky Number Slevin (2007), 30 Days of Night (2008), and the indie drama August (2008).
More recently, Hartnett has starred on the Showtime series Penny Dreadful (2014–2016). In 2023, he appeared in Guy Ritchie's Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre and an episode of Black Mirror's sixth season as a disturbed astronaut opposite Aaron Paul.
Hartnett has been married to English actress Tamsin Egerton since 2021, with whom he shares three children.
Matthew Modine (Vannevar Bush)
Matthew Modine made his film debut in 1983's Baby It's You, followed by an ensemble role in Stanley Kubrick's anti-war film Full Metal Jacket (1987), and a lead part in Married to the Mob (1988). Starring roles in '90s staples such as Bye Bye Love and Cutthroat Island gave way to supporting parts in Any Given Sunday (1999) and Spike Lee's Bamboozled (2000).
The actor later appeared in the high-octane sequel Transporter 2 (2005) and in the rom-com Girl in Progress (2012). That year also marked Modine's first collaboration with Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight Rises, where he played Foley of the Gotham City Police Department. More recently, Modine has appeared in 47 Meters Down (2017), Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018), and the reboot of Wrong Turn (2021).
Modine has been married to makeup and wardrobe stylist Caridad Rivera since 1980. The couple share two adult children, ballet dancer Ruby and assistant director Boman. The actor is also the head of an organization called Bicycle for a Day, which encourages people to abandon motor vehicles for a bicycle, if only occasionally.
Josh Peck (Kenneth Bainbridge)
One of the few child stars who parlayed massive stardom at a young age into adult success with a refreshing lack of controversy, Josh Peck rose to fame as a cast member of Nickelodeon's The Amanda Show and in the film Snow Day (2000). He took a successful dramatic turn in the chilling drama Mean Creek (2004) before going on to anchor his own Nick series, Drake & Josh (2004–2007) alongside recently embattled costar Drake Bell. Peck moved into more adult fare with roles in Drillbit Taylor and opposite Ben Kingsley in The Wackness (both 2008). He appeared in the remake of Red Dawn (2012), with Al Pacino in Danny Collins (2015), and in Netflix's 13: The Musical (2022).
Last year, Peck revealed to PEOPLE that he used to rely on drugs and alcohol to combat social anxiety. "I had this illusion of becoming more confident and attractive when I was partaking," he shared. "I was trying to quiet that voice that woke me up every morning and told me I wasn't enough." He stopped, however, when his substance abuse led to those in the industry labeling him as unreliable on set. "I had worked so hard for this thing and I was getting very close to losing it," Peck said.
The actor still cannot believe his good fortune to be cast in Nolan's latest epic as Kenneth Bainbridge, director of the Manhattan Project's infamous Trinity nuclear test. On the YouTube talk show Chicks in the Office, Peck revealed: "I have this really small part in [Oppenheimer]. I was on set two days ago going, 'I'm the guy from Drake & Josh, like what am I doing here?' But I'm soaking it up."
Olivia Thirlby (Lilli Hornig)
Olivia Thirlby made her feature film debut in Paul Greengrass' real-time 9/11 thriller United 93 (2006), in which the actor portrayed United flight 93 passenger Nicole Carol Miller. She then had a small part in David Gordon Green's Snow Angels before rising to stardom with her role in Juno (both in 2007), playing the best friend of the eponymous pregnant teen. In 2008, she starred opposite her Oppenheimer costar Josh Peck in The Wackness, a sweet NYC-set summer fable.
Thirlby laid low for a few years before returning to cinemas with key roles in the rom-com No Strings Attached, Kenneth Lonergan's Margaret, and The Darkest Hour (all 2011). She played Judge Anderson in Pete Travis' remarkably depraved and highly entertaining Judge Dredd reboot, Dredd (2012), before starring opposite yet another Oppenheimer costar, Michael Angarano, in The Stanford Prison Experiment (2015), and appearing in the bio-drama Chappaquiddick (2018).
In 2011, Thirlby came out as bisexual. She was married to Jacques Pienaar, whom she met on the set of Dredd, from the end of 2014 until early 2021 when he filed for divorce. In 2023, Thirlby's Juno costar Elliot Page revealed that the two had a physical relationship during filming.
Kenneth Branagh (Niels Bohr)
Oppenheimer is Kenneth Branagh's third collaboration with Christopher Nolan, after appearing in Dunkirk (2017) and Tenet (2020). Brannagh is a celebrated director in his own right, having been recognized by the Academy for helming Belfast (2021), along with nominations for his Shakespeare films Henry V (1989) and Hamlet (1996), both of which he starred in. (EW declared Much Ado About Nothing to be "not just the greatest Kenneth Branagh Shakespeare film," but "perhaps the greatest cinematic Shakespeare adaptation ever," Oscars be damned.)
He also helmed recent Agatha Christie adaptations of Murder on the Orient Express (2017), Death on the Nile (2022), and the upcoming A Haunting in Venice (2023). Many viewers may recognize him for his turn as Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) as well.
Brannagh was married to actor and writer Emma Thompson from 1989 until 1995. He then entered a relationship with Helena Bonham Carter until 1999. He has been married to art director Lindsay Brunnock since 2003.
James D'Arcy (Patrick Blackett)
Like many famous faces in Oppenheimer, James D'Arcy has worked with Nolan once before on Dunkirk. A renowned character actor, D'Arcy is best known for his MCU turn as Edwin Jarvis, butler to Howard Stark, in the series Agent Carter and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Other notable works include Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), Exorcist: The Beginning (2004), and Cloud Atlas (2012). He also played the legendary Psycho actor Anthony Perkins in the playful biopic Hitchcock (2012) and directed the 2020 drama Made in Italy, starring Liam Neeson. D'Arcy can be seen next in the upcoming sci-fi series Constellation.'

Final Fantasy VII has been special to me since I first played it over two decades ago. The inner struggles of the main characters resonated with me and I have continued to reflect back on them as the years pass. I wanted to pay homage to the game, and while I liked Case of Tifa (and tolerated Advent Children / AC:C), I felt both lacking in emotional relevance. So, this fic was born.
This iteration is technically Version 3. I wrote the original draft for this back in 2009 and sat on it for several years until I polished it and posted it on fanfiction.net in July of 2013. I posted it on AO3 in 2017. And then, in 2020, when I played the FFVII: Remake and decided I had horribly mixed feelings about it (very strong, horribly mixed feelings, to be specific), I eventually decided to re-read this fic, thinking that I had nothing else to say, and that it was a complete work. I was wrong - I had room for a little more.
So, here it is. I've added 16,000+ words and reworked a lot of parts that either felt incomplete or wrong. If you're an old reader revisiting this, I would like to thank you profusely for your time. The kudos, faves, and reviews I've received on the earlier version have all made me more happy than y'all can ever know.

Best and Worst of 2022
Tumblr media
Remember last year when I thought 183 new Christmas movies were too many?
Well, the joke is most definitely on me, because this year there were so many more. 243 to be exact, a 33% year-over-year increase, and that's just across broadcast, cable and streaming. If you add in new holiday titles available via digital purchase/rental, DVD and/or theatrical-only, the total jumps to 316 all-new Christmas movie offerings for 2022, the bulk of which premiered in the final 9 weeks of the year, across a record 53 linear networks and streaming platforms  (see below).

Amidst all that content we got some real gems. Not only did I watch more new movies than ever before—in large part because my kids told me they were getting too old for our annual animated special advent calendar (sob)—and once again ranked them in real-time as I did so, but found more I loved than ever before, too.
After 2021 saw zero made-for-TV movies I felt were truly "four paw" worthy, this season saw 3 debuts that I felt strongly enough to include in my all-time favorites list, the most since 2018, and a record 11 movies that I'd give my personal highest 🐾🐾🐾🐾  rating to.
Since I never, ever strived to watch everything new, even when there was a lot less of it, my picks below aren't meant to be the unequivocal best or worst of all that’s out there, just the new holiday fare I managed to sample this season. And even though I watched almost no non-festive content from November 6-December 25 that was still only a drop in the bucket considering the absolute avalanche of Christmas content that now drops annually.
Since I only watch what I hope to enjoy, there's a whole lot of holiday dreck never even considered sampling, as well as plenty of stuff I was interested in that I just never found time for. But of what I did watch in 2022, here's what I liked most, and least this holiday season…
Best Made-for-TV Holiday Movie
Tumblr media
With the trips to theater more rare than they were pre-2020, and streaming services having more widely varying budgets than your average cable channel's "movie of the week" model, this category can be a little hard to contain, as it's not really fair to compare even a mid-budget streaming title with shot-in-15-days Hallmark fare, but for my head-to-head comparison purposes this category consists, broadly, of movies with a no more than a 7-figure budget, and shooting schedule of a month or less.
There are definite quality variations within that range—you will for sure notice the budget differences between a $1 million and $6 million production, or 10 versus 25-day shoot—but it at least feels fair to rank those movies against each other, rather than, say, the $100,000,000 estimated production of something like Spirited.
My favorite of the season ended up being not only my first watch of the year, but one that had premiered in 2021 in the U.K.. The Sky original, A Christmas No. 1 (a.k.a. A Christmas Number One), which quietly made its U.S. debut on Tubi in early November. Starring Frieda Pinto and Iwan Rheon, the story of a music exec desperate for a holiday hit, and a musician who doesn't want to sell his song to her cheesy boy band, took turns I wasn't expecting based on that basic premise. Knowing little going in probably helped sell this one for me, as did the high-caliber acting, some genuine laughs, and really good original music. Not without its own well-worn formula, A Christmas No. 1 just felt so much more like a "real movie" than your typical U.S. made-for-TV holiday title, even if they were awkwardly attempting to hide Pinto’s obvious real-life pregnancy.
Tumblr media
My second-favorite of the season was also somewhat unexpected.
VH1 entered the holiday movie fray in 2021, with forgettable results in terms of both ratings and quality, not to mention the baffling decision not to stream titles on Viacom-owned Paramount+, so was somewhat surprised to see them putting out more movies in 2022, but they finally made a good one in All I Didn't Want for Christmas, one of the few VH1 holiday titles that didn't rely on existing VH1/MTV talent and/or IP.
Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe was fantastic as a woman frustrated with her stagnating life and career who writes Santa a drunken letter, Loretta Devine great as her well-meaning, but overbearing, mom and Kel Mitchell charming as the elf sent to help her. All I Didn’t Want for Christmas was funny, heartfelt and a truly original ride.
Sidibe has fantastic comedic timing and this story offered a rare fresh take on a classic Christmas set-up. A shame that just as they're finding their Christmas movie feet, VH1, which underwent a massive corporate shake-up in early November, is unlikely to produce any further originals. Glad we at least got this gem and hope to see Sidibe in more holiday movies.
Tumblr media
No. 3 on my list is Hallmark's big swing, Three Wise Men and a Baby, starring Andrew Walker, Tyler Hynes and Paul Campbell, who also co-wrote the script with Kimberley Sustad.
This was a laugh-out-loud funny comedy that even cleverly carried over Margaret Colin, here playing the adult sons' mom, from its Three Men and a Baby inspiration. Just a joyful holiday watch that both played with the Hallmark formula and reveled in it.
Others worthy of extra mention from Hallmark, Hannukah on Rye, their first truly good Hanukkah romance (to my mind anyway), the almost-great Ghosts of Christmas Always, which I enjoyed very much  as is, but could have been an all-timer with a different ending, and Hallmark's first-ever lead, same-sex holiday romance, The Holiday Sitter.
In just a few years Hallmark has gone from a network whose fare I found ever more bland and uninteresting, to dominating my top 10 of the season list. Every one of which I would, by the way, wholeheartedly recommend to fellow Christmas movie fans.
A Christmas No. 1, Tubi
All I Didn't Want for Christmas, VH1
Three Wise Men and a Baby, Hallmark
Hanukkah on Rye, Hallmark
Haul out the Holly, Hallmark
Ghosts of Christmas Always, Hallmark
Falling for Christmas, Netflix
Reindeer Games Homecoming, Lifetime
Lights, Camera, Christmas!, Hallmark
The Holiday Sitter, Hallmark
Worst Made-for-TV Holiday Movie
Tumblr media
It wasn't all accolades for Hallmark. A Holiday Spectacular was reportedly Hallmark's most expensive movie ever, and while it looked relatively lush, filming in the real-life Radio City Music Hall and filled with period cars and costumes, the whitewashing of the Rockettes’ shameful racial history more than just took me out of the story, it ended up making me actively angry.
Hallmark has made so much progress in the past three seasons, to see them running cover for what was once called “one of the most racist organizations in American entertainment,” made me queasy.
Tumblr media
Discovery+ started making holiday originals in 2021, and their first effort, Candy-Coated Christmas, was one of my least favorite movies of the year. This year they delivered four originals, and while I had higher hopes given the talent involved, bowed out of two others before (barely) making it through Designing Christmas. A charming cast really couldn't save this very rote, and oddly infomercial-feeling, home design story, that felt like you were watching an extended commercial for other HGTV programming.
Tumblr media
As Hallmark rises in my estimation, Lifetime falls. Once a reliable provider of my holiday favorites, Lifetime's last three seasons have been subpar, at best, with this being their worst-ever. Stopped watching so many of their movies this year, eventually just gave up on the network altogether. Only Reindeer Games Homecoming stood out as being worthy of what was once my holiday go-to network. Even their marquee movies with bigger stars no longer provide a reasonable expectation of quality. Didn't make it much past the 15-minute mark for either A Christmas Spark or Santa Bootcamp, despite strong casts, and while I watched all of Steppin' Into the Holiday, couldn't exactly tell you why, since the Mario Lopez-Jana Kramer joint was painfully lifeless and ultimately dumb, as well as boring.
Tumblr media
Netflix also had some real clunkers this season, including Christmas with You. I was really looking forward to the streamer giving us a bigger budget, Latino holiday story, but should have known when they changed the name from Christmas Quinceanera to something this boring, the movie would follow suit. Chemistry free, nonsensical story with lifeless performances from usually charming leads. Snooze.
Best Theatrical Holiday Movie
Tumblr media
This category could more accurately be called “bigger budget,” as higher-end streaming productions tend to dominate this category now. Though most of my 2022 faves did get a theatrical run, that’s just not where I personally saw them. And, as I said in the made-for-TV category, as streaming originals start to dominate the Christmas movie conversation, the distinction between what is "made-for-TV" and what's "theatrical" can start to feel a bit arbitrary, especially when you're comparing movies that cost $100 million to make, with those that filmed for $10 million, but still far exceed a typical Hallmark or Lifetime movie-of-the-week budget.
In total, I saw 10 holiday movies this year that I think mostly fit into the "theatrical" category, even if only half of them played in theaters. (Being the homebody I am, I saw them all from my sofa.)
Spirited
Violent Night
This is Christmas, Sky/Epix
Your Christmas or Mine?,  Prime Video
Something from Tiffany's, Prime Video
About Fate
Spoiler Alert
Bar Fight, AMC+
A Christmas Story Christmas, HBO Max
The Noel Diary, Netflix
Spirited was not only my favorite of the season, but one of the best modern musicals I've seen. Watched it twice this year, and anticipate it becoming a regular part of my annual Christmas movie rota, as it's already one of my all-time favorites.
Tumblr media
The unexpectedly entertaining Violent Night brings together gruesomely cartoonish violence (not usually my thing), humor and Christmas cheer in a completely unique package, despite it cribbing from, and even actually name-checking, so many other holiday classics—altogether an extraordinary and impressive feat. Think David Harbour can now claim the definitive world-weary Santa with a heart of gold portrayal, at least in my book.
Tumblr media
British charmers This is Christmas and Your Christmas or Mine? were both sweet, lovely and a true cut above the made-for-TV fare we usually get on this side of the pond.
This is Christmas, like my made-for-TV favorite, A Christmas No. 1, was a Sky TV original in the UK, but it's slightly bigger budget (as a co-production), and same-day U.S. debut, slipped it into the "theatrical" category for me.
Your Christmas or Mine? had a fantastically fun premise—college students in love each decide to jump off their respective trains home to surprise the other for the holidays, only to each be stuck with the other's families instead—that wasn't pulled off quite as well as I'd hoped, but was still lovely and fun, with a great cast.
Tumblr media
Also mostly liked About Fate. The New Year's-set remake of Soviet classic, The Irony of Fate, wasn't perfect, but Thomas Mann and Emma Roberts are winning enough to make it work, and I can definitely see myself watching this again in the future.
Even the middling Bar Fight had its moments, thanks mostly to its great, game cast—and that it wasn't a romance (the opposite, as it's a break-up movie) was a refreshing holiday twist.
Worst Theatrical Holiday Movie
Tumblr media
So, that leaves my picks for “worst” as the mundane, fan service-laden A Christmas Story Christmas, which made little sense and had far too little of the humor and heartfelt moments that has made the original a lasting classic.
But even worse than that mostly dull sequel was The Noel Diary, which has convinced me that Richard Paul Evans isn't just the Nicolas Sparks of Christmas movies, they might be one in the hacky same. Poorly edited, woodenly acted, and a plot so dumb it made me want to throw things at the screen. Not quite bad enough to be "fun bad," but very bad indeed.
Best Stealth Christmas Movie
Tumblr media
Bily Eichner’s big screen, R-rated rom-com Bros was my favorite rom-com of the year, and it's pivotal Christmas scenes, plus constant name-checking of "Hallheart" movies, makes it a stealth Christmas movie.
If you’re unfamiliar with the genre, that’s what I call a movie set during the Christmas season, or containing key holiday scenes, that isn’t specifically thought of as a Christmas film.
The holiday heavy Spoiler Alert, and more lightly holiday The Good House, which has significant Thanksgiving and Christmas scenes, are also well worth a watch.
Worst Stealth Christmas Movie
Tumblr media
I must pick The King's Man. Yes, it came out in late 2021, but I watched it in 2022, and this franchise spin off is awful enough for its Christmas-scented stench to pollute two years. Even the lesser-than Kingsman sequel looks like a masterpiece next to this dreck.
Best Animated Holiday Special
Tumblr media
Apple is doing a fantastic job preserving Charlie Brown’s legacy, and this year's new holiday shorts collection Happiness is a Gift Worth Giving, part of season 2 of The Snoopy Show, are absolutely in line with the heart and soul of the original Peanuts specials.
Honorable mention to the Autumn of Mickey Mouse, the latest in Disney's series of retro-look, seasonal specials that, like The Snoopy Show, really hew to the original ethos of the characters and all are smart, funny and sweet.
In case anyone wants to be a stickler and not count either of the above for being, respectively, not-Christmas centered, or part of an animated series, CBS gave us the amiable Reindeer in Here which was an original story with a good message, that I can see being added to many family’s annual rotations. Far from groundbreaking, it was still a pleasant, festive watch.
Worst Animated Holiday Special
Tumblr media
Cannot say the same for the much more popular, Mickey Saves Christmas, which ran on ABC and striped across the Disney Channels and is now on Disney+. The story is almost non-existent, and even the animation seemed sub-par, a mix between low-budget computer generation and stop-motion.
Little kids liked it enough to make it pop in the ratings even after endless repeat airings, so I'm sure we'll see it again and again forever, but Disney knows how to do this so much better, and it feels like they just didn't bother here.
Best Live Action Holiday Special
Tumblr media
We go from something Disney did poorly, to something they did quite well, the Marvel one-off Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. This James Gunn-written and produced mini-movie was so much fun, and even gave us two great new original songs for the holiday canon.
Did Chris Pratt frequently look like he’d rather be anywhere else? Sure, but Mantis and Drax’s capture of a very game Kevin Bacon more than made up for Pratt’s pout.
Tumblr media
Honorable mentions here to Who Killed Santa? A Murderville Murder Mystery. The improvised offshoot of Will Arnett’s Netflix series paired the comedian with his Smartless podcast partners Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes, as well as Maya Rudolph.
It's very silly, often veering into stupid, but I laughed a lot. Would probably have liked it even more if not for the third act Pete Davidson appearance. Luckily, Davidson did very little. Per usual.
Also enjoyed Showtime’s tongue-in-cheek Matt Rogers: Have You Heard of Christmas? This parody of an old-fashioned musical holiday special, featured Rogers singing hits from his fictional holiday album. A good enough singer to make the comedy songs work, Rogers has impeccable timing and style, and between this special and Fire Island, as well as his hit podcast Las Culturistas, had one heck of a 2022.
Worst Live Action Holiday Special
Tumblr media
Disney’s streaming original Best in Snow was a weird combination of competition and storyline. While this could have been interesting as strictly a snow building competition, Titus Burgess' commitment to his weird “mayor” character, a handful of seemingly unrelated animated segments, and truly bizarre pacing made this a mish-mash that simply did not work.
Best Holiday Series
Tumblr media
The past few seasons have left us spoiled for choice when it comes to holiday series. This season saw a dearth of new, specifically holiday-set series to explore—with the caveat that I never quite found time for Per-Olav Sørensen's Storm for Christmas on Netflix—but season two of Starstruck, the lovely British rom-com on HBO Max, both incorporated the holidays and was one of my favorite watches of the year.
Worst Holiday Series
Tumblr media
The Disney+ series sequel to the The Santa Clause movie trilogy, The Santa Clauses, was unfunny, unfestive and absolutely unnecessary. This tired Tim Allen vehicle filled with “jokes” sourced straight from Fox News held no appeal, even though I slogged through two episodes hoping it would get better.
The Santa Clauses has already been renewed for season, so clearly people are watching, but to say this isn’t my cup of cocoa is putting it lightly, so to feel free to pencil season two in as my worst of 2023 already.
Best Holiday Reality Series
Tumblr media
FOX’s Lego Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular paired past LEGO Masters players with celebs competing for charity for a fun family watch that, at just four episodes over three nights (two regular episodes, and a double-length finale), didn’t have time to wear out its welcome.
And, though it wasn't as prominent a tribute as I'd hoped and expected, it was also still very nice to see Leslie Jordan being his hilarious, amazing, and charming self, one last time, following his untimely October death.
Worst Holiday Reality Series
Tumblr media
Silos Baking Competition: Holiday Edition, on HBO Max, is the latest entry in the constant self-promotional churn of the insufferable Chip and Joanna Gaines, who I don’t recall hating before they turned themselves into a 24/7 brand. This dull as dishwater "competition" was a basic retread of better baking shows and barely even qualified as Christmas-y, despite the title.
Best Holiday TV Episode of an Ongoing Series
Tumblr media
Abbott Elementary is the best show on traditional broadcast TV, and their “Holiday Hookah” episode delivered a sweet, holiday tale that also pushed forward major ongoing plot points, like the will they/won't they flirtation between Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams, with Janelle James predictably stealing the show.
Worst Holiday TV Episode of an Ongoing Series
Tumblr media
Animation voice work is clearly a sweet celebrity gig, so I don't blame folks like Lisa Kudrow, Clea DeVall and Nat Faxon for cashing the checks, but both new Housebroken holiday episodes on FOX, my first brush with the series, left me seriously underwhelmed. Lots of poop "humor" and exceedingly little heart, even in what should be the most sentimental effort(s) of the season. Sad that so many talented people are making something so uninspired.
Felt like there were fewer holiday series episodes in general than in year’s past, probably in part due to smaller season orders leaving less time for holiday hijinks.
Best Christmas Advert
Tumblr media
Watching these bite-size servings of holiday joy has long been a part of our family’s Christmas tradition. We now have a fairly well established list that we revisit annually, just like any other beloved Christmas special. Though there were plenty of note, overall 2022 seemed like a lesser year for the corporate Christmas mini-movie, though there was at least one that made me sob like a baby…“El Ruso de Rocky,” from Spanish company J&B, shows a grandfather modeling acceptance in the most selfless, nurturing way possible.
Honorable mention to Kroger’s Up inspired “The Magical Cookbook,” which poignantly captured the connection between holiday meals and memories.
Worst Christmas Advert
Tumblr media
Old Navy’s endless variations on their hyperkinetic “Matchy Matchy” ads were a true waste of the great Jennifer Coolidge. But good for her for getting that holiday green, though.
Best New Christmas Song
Tumblr media
2022 wasn’t quite as quite as strong a year for new holiday tunes as 2021, but I still found plenty to add to my ever-growing "Christmas Favorites" playlist.
“Night Before Christmas,” Sam Smith
“Here it is Christmastime,” Kevin Bacon and the Old 97′s
“The More You Give (The More You’ll Have),” Michael Buble (Listen, the man has an endless well of holiday originals inside of him, and will release one annually till the earth's core melts)
“I Don’t Know What Christmas Is (But Christmastime Is Here),” the Old 97′s
“Almost Too Early for Christmas,” Dolly Parton and Jimmy Fallon (Is it unbearably cheesy? Sure. But, c’mon, it’s Dolly)
“12 nights,” Sia
“Snow in L.A.,” Noah Cyrus and PJ Harding
“So Much Wine,” Phoebe Bridgers
"This is Christmas,” Annelise Cepero (Didn’t see Holiday Harmony, but the song ended up in my playlist anyway.)
“Naughty and Nice,” Sia
With an honorable mention to the new-to-me music from A Christmas No. 1, especially “Christmas Morning,” in both its Iwan Rheon acoustic and Scurve versions, which were probably the tunes I actually listened to most this season.
Worst New Christmas Song
Tumblr media
Jeff Goldblum’s “The Christmas Waltz” felt like a parody where he wasn’t in on the joke, unlike his much better, actual parody holiday gig.
Best New Christmas Album
Tumblr media
Spirited was the soundtrack I just couldn’t stop humming. Hard to pick just one standout, but did I dance around singing "That Christmas Morning Feelin'" into a candy cane on December 25th to the embarrassment of my family? 100%. And I regret nothing.
Worst New Christmas Album
Tumblr media
Alicia Keys’ Santa Baby, while not terrible by any means, was a disappointment. I expected a standout from someone with as powerful a presence as Keys. The original, "December Back 2 June," was meh, and the standards didn't really stick either. A very ho-hum effort from a singer who is usually anything but.
Best Holiday Book
Tumblr media
Lindsay Kelk’s cozy and romantic The Christmas Wish was my favorite holiday read of 2022. Sweet with just enough edge to make this Groundhog Day take interesting. (And, yes, my 2021 favorite read was another stuck-in-a-Christmas-time-loop tale, Holidazed, so guess I have a type.)
Best Holiday Podcast
Tumblr media
Going to sound like a bit of a broken record here, because while the hosts changed, my holiday favorite podcast did not. Deck the Hallmark continues to be my holiday listening go-to, maybe because they put out so much content I don’t have time to try and tackle anything else 😝
Of course, always make time for the ladies of All the Feels and their holiday movie bracket, as well as Alonso Duralde’s “Christmas Movie Minute” on Maximum Film.
Favorite New-to-Me Holiday Content
Tumblr media
With so much new this season, didn’t get to sample too much I’d missed from the past, but Hallmark’s 2020 Project Christmas Wish, starring Amanda Schull and Travis Van Winkle, was one of the more actually romantic Hallmark romances of recent years. We got to see the characters fall in love, rather than just go from "hating" each other to "being in love" in an instant. Just a well-done entry in the genre I’m happy to have caught up with.
Top 10 Non-Holiday Movies of 2022
Tumblr media
Glass Onion, A Knives Out Story, Netflix
Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, Hulu
Hustle, Netflix
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
Bros
The Sea Beast, Netflix
Top Gun: Maverick
Confess, Fletch
The Valet, Hulu
The Good House
Though there are plenty of awards contenders still haven’t managed to see, making this list subject to future amendment, Rian Johnson’s return to the world of Benoit Blanc was smart, funny and a whole lot of fun to watch.
Top 15 Non-Holiday TV Series of 2022
Tumblr media
Trying, Apple TV+
Hacks, HBO Max
Derry Girls, Netflix
Starstruck, HBO Max
Peacemaker, HBO Max
Heartstopper, Netflix
Reservation Dogs, Hulu
From Scratch, Netflix
Barry, HBO Max
Julia, HBO Max
The Crown, Netflix
This is Going to Hurt, AMC+
Reboot, Hulu
Single Drunk Female, FX
Abbott Elementary, ABC
As with movies, there are a long list of series I still need to catch up on, but even with those viewing blind spots, could easily have made a list twice this long with shows I really loved (for instance, ran out of room for things like my beloved Never Have I Ever, and very good The Best Man: The Final Chapters), but no show made me laugh, or cry, more regularly in 2022 than Apple’s absolutely brilliant Trying. By the way, Trying’s regular director, Jim O'Hanlon, also made Your Christmas or Mine?
Worst Non-Holiday Movie/TV of 2022
Tumblr media
No movie I watched all the way through in 2022 stunk worse than Netflix’s execrable Purple Hearts. The reason I kept watching is because I mistook it for the kind of cheesy, sentimental military romance I usually kind of enjoy, instead of the just plain awful, poorly acted and seriously stupid story it actually was. Literally laughed out loud at the ending. If it was slightly less polished, this one almost tips over into The Room-like cringe that could make it almost fun, but, alas.
In bad TV, Hillary Swank’s achingly earnest Alaska Daily, with its bonkers depiction of journalism-ing and overwhelming white savior narrative, made my eyes roll so often I thought I might have sprained something.
Favorite Advent Calendar
Tumblr media
Those who follow me on Twitter, know I have a slight advent calendar obsession, particularly beauty advent calendars, so now that I’ve opened my [redacted number] of 2022 calendars, thought I’d share my favorite of the season…The 12 Days of Harrod’s Fragrance calendar contained several bottles that were each worth more than the calendar’s cost. No tiny samples here, all purse size or larger, truly high-end scents to more than sample, simply but beautifully packaged.
Honorable mention to my favorite beauty calendars, which included the companion 25 Days of Harrod’s Beauty and Liberty London, both of which featured a lot of seriously high-end skincare products, many of them full size.
And while I’m not sure I would want to monetize my Christmas movie musings, even if I could, I am open to anyone who wants to send me luxury beauty advent calendars to review in 2023 😜
Best Holiday Network
Tumblr media
Hallmark Channel has gone from my worst to first in just three years. Their new Peacock ad-free availability meant I watched more of their movies than ever before, and they were mostly quite good.
Hallmark's newfound diversity, forged under new leadership, not only in casting, but storytelling too, means that the 43 movies they made this year actually have distinct differences from one another, instead of identical copies of the same story retold every weekend of the season. It's a breath of a fresh air and, honestly, given the quality and quantity of the content, paired with increased streaming availability, there's probably never been a better time to be a Hallmark Christmas movie fan.
Worst Holiday Network
Tumblr media
Great American Family spent most of the year not making movies—broadcasting from early February to the end of August with zero new or original content—instead opting to fiddle with their name, after realizing the acronym GAC sounded like a cat trying to get up a hairball, only to change it to GAF, which sounds like either a mistake (gaffe), or R-rated shorthand (as in IDGAF) that doesn’t seem in line with the network’s stated "faith, family and country” theme.
But naming confusion was just the tip of the iceberg for Great American Family’s issues, many of which were unforced errors, like CEO Bill Abbott calling convicted felon Lori Loughlin, "Someone who has a track record of doing the right thing in the world at large." and “America’s Sweetheart.”
To pulling one of their holiday movies just days after announcing it, saying it didn’t “meet their standards.” Or endlessly changing their Christmas schedule, which they claimed contained “18 originals,” but actually featured movies that had debuted years ago they renamed and passed off as new, as well as several that dropped on free streaming services before coming to GAF.
But GAF’s biggest, well, gaffe of the year came when Candace Cameron Bure accidentally said the quiet part out loud to the Wall Street Journal, and admitted Great American Family’s main mission was pretending queer people don’t exist—at least not in front of the camera. Of course, when everyone acted properly horrified by her hate speech, Cameron Bure blamed “the media” even though she’d been perfectly happy to repeatedly promote the WSJ story on her own social media…Right up until she realized it wasn't going well for her online.
The good news is that Great American Family’s ratings remain absolutely dismal. The network finished 103rd out of 159 Nielsen-tracked TV networks, averaging a meagre 79,000 viewers, behind every single other Christmas movie-making network. GAF’s so-called “signature franchise” Christmas movies averaged less than 225,000 viewers and a paltry .02 (that’s point 2) in the all-important 18-49 demographic. Their highest-rated movie to date, Christmas at the Drive-In, only managed 482,000 viewers and a .04 in the demo. Just all around disastrous ratings for an ad-based network that doesn’t even have On Demand or streaming options to boost their viewership.
Of course, rock bottom ratings didn’t keep Great American Family from rolling out a “Mission Accomplished” press release that, at best, fudged the stats.
With just 7% of Hallmark’s average viewership, it’s long past time for reporters to stop credulously reporting that GAF is Hallmark’s Christmas “competition.” And shout out to Decider’s Brett White for making that point with a lot of math.
Anyway, yeah, Bill Abbott, marketing genius.
Worst Holiday TV Trend
Tumblr media
TOO MUCH! For real this time.
Since I felt the holiday movie pace was unsustainable at least 100 movies per year ago, won't make any predictions, but does seem hard to imagine how this exponential annual increase can keep going. As cable audiences dwindle, and streamers tighten their belts, we must, sooner or later, see the holiday movie machine contract.
Yes, these movies’ annual rewatchablity, relative low cost, and ad-placement-friendly subject matter is a big part of what made them so popular, and profitable, but at some point, we'll simply run out of places to put them all, not to mention more movies fighting for fewer eyeballs in an increasingly smaller marketplace.
Well, that’s a wrap on 2022!
As for me, since I've talked about abandoning this hobby turned unpaid part-time job for several seasons now, won't make any predications there either, but do know that while I'm still interested in the inner workings of the industry, as well as still personally enjoy watching Christmas content, trying to follow the now non-stop production is way, way too much for me to promise to keep up with. For updates and info you can visit me on Twitter at @sleepykittypaw if you wish, at least as long as that platform is around/usable.
But, no matter what 2023 brings, cheers to you and yours in the New Year, and know that next year’s holiday movies are already just around the corner.

📥 📝 and 🌈 for Hourglass
Hi Divi ~
📥 What is your fave fic to receive comments/messages on?
I love receiving comments on all my works..? But if I really have to chose one, I would say Are you Alright? Not because it's my favorite or anything like this -I don't have a favorite to be honest xD- But because I think it's both "easy" to read and "difficult" to leave without feeling something about it. Or at least it's how I tried to write it xD And I think that strangely, I thought the form of the One-shot for it to serve the story, where I had to think the story for the form in Hourglass or I had to sacrifice it for The Story of Yesterday. There's some kind of creator's curiosity in me when it comes to Are you Alright?. Something like "Did it work? QQ" And the more feedback, the more I know if I achieved my goal -says the Fanfictions' writer xD-
📝 What is one growth area you have for your writing?
I will answer something strange, but I think I got better in letting go? I sometimes just let the characters do things that I'm not really okay with but I'll go with it because the flow of the story is better thanks to that. Or I just try to get what the reader might have seen in the story, that I intended to put that here or not. And it's strangely relaxing and scary in the mean time but it's also extra cool. I'm sometimes surprise by what I end-up with and yeah, I got better at letting things happen and writing things that I might want to write.
🌈 What inspired you to write Hourglass?
Well, I asked Maryflower for a word and I intended to do a short story about that theme, around Christmas Eve. I knew that Froggy1988*, Adi*, Kai517* were working on a Avent Calendar and I thought that it was a fun idea. I had a busy moment, it was like hell in my life and I decided to do my own calendar because it would allow me to deal with some of those problems, while being focused on something and it would also make one Advent Calendar for the other authors who were working on theirs -so you know, they could join the fun of having something new to read each day. And also because I woke up at three in the morning with the two finales sentences of the story and I needed to write them down and do something about it.
I wanted to do something realistic and warm, and "edgy" and loving and most of all, a story with character's growing, understanding, a work in progress with a key moment to end. I created events in mirror, chapters replying each-other, elements linking everything together while following the idea of Maryflower's Snowflake everywhere and tadaaa.
I'm not sure that it answers the question xD But to make it shorter, I would say that I was inspire by Maryflower choice of Snowflake and my annual Christmas badmood linked to special depressing events in 2020 xD
I didn't add anyone in this with a link because it's an answer to an ask and I don't think they have interest in it, but if it's seem more fitting then I think I can look for a way to link them ><

The Power of Data: Unveiling the Truth with Hard Facts and Numbers
Welcome, dear readers! In this article, we will delve into the fascinating world of data and its immense impact on our lives. Brace yourself for a journey through numbers and facts that will change the way you see the world.
Introduction: The Role of Data in the Digital Age
In the digital age, data has become the lifeblood of our society. It shapes our decisions, drives innovation, and empowers businesses to thrive. But what is data exactly? Data can be defined as a collection of facts, statistics, or information that can be analyzed and used to gain insights and make informed decisions.
From the vast amount of data generated every second to the complex algorithms that analyze it, data has permeated every aspect of our lives. It informs our purchasing decisions, helps solve complex problems, and enables organizations to optimize their operations.
The Rise of Big Data: A Revolution in Information
The advent of the internet and advancements in technology have led to an explosion of data like never before. This phenomenon is known as Big Data. It refers to the massive volume of structured and unstructured data that is generated across various sources.
Let's look at some mind-boggling numbers:
Every minute, over 4 million Google searches are performed.
By 2025, it is estimated that there will be 463 exabytes of data created each day globally.
In 2020, the amount of data generated worldwide reached a staggering 59 zettabytes.
These numbers highlight the sheer scale of data that exists in the digital realm. Harnessing this data has become crucial for organizations to gain a competitive edge, optimize their processes, and predict future trends.
The Real World Applications of Data
Now, you might be wondering, how does all of this data impact our everyday lives? The applications are numerous and varied. Let's explore a few real-world examples:
1. Healthcare:
Data analysis plays a vital role in healthcare. It enables doctors to make accurate diagnoses, identify trends in patient outcomes, and predict disease outbreaks. By analyzing vast amounts of medical records, researchers can also uncover new treatments and therapies.
2. Business and Marketing:
Data-driven marketing strategies have revolutionized the way companies promote their products and services. By understanding consumer behavior, organizations can target their audience more effectively, personalize their offerings, and optimize their marketing campaigns for maximum impact.
3. Transportation and Logistics:
Data analytics has drastically improved transportation and logistics operations. From route optimization to demand forecasting, companies can leverage data to streamline their supply chain, reduce costs, and deliver products more efficiently.
4. Education:
By analyzing student data, educators can identify areas where students may struggle and tailor their teaching methods accordingly. Data analysis also helps educational institutions optimize their resources, track student performance, and make data-driven decisions to improve overall educational outcomes.

Lightning Returns was a brilliant way to wait while SE fixed the previous patch for Rebirth due to a certain quest, aka, getting the platinum. Was in hiatus for almost a month, and soon to be over. After I have my nostalgic moment with FF13 Part 3 till the end. It's been actually a decade since I'd last played and it's released year. My intention wasn't ever to celebrate it's 10 anniversary. It was a bless since I thought about it. Not a type of person to replay from scratch. Doing this because I was not aware of backing up the save data and now it's unfortunately lost, out of the PS3 saves from 2012- fall 2015. Due to the hard drive crash, while I was checking out FF14 online demo. It causes to lose the save data, was I didn't safely shut down the PS3 console. I shut down through the PS icon button, instead exiting to the menu. Which I currently doing it that way. To be safe and avoid crashes. I did mention something like years back from my old post. My last PS3 replay was FF13-2, Tales of Graces F, and Xillia back in 2020-2021. Now I'm back for FF13-3 and take what was mine.
Decided to play LR, while I was in the livestream. My Youtube Subscription was discussing about Rebirth and somehow lead to LR in it. We were just having a great chat and vibing. I'm beginning to think they used LR and Advent Children, they putted together and we got FFR. Which I can feel this is definitely relevant to me. I kept using Cloud Suit and it's special ability on LR. Once again, cool way to wait for the Patch to be fixed. If I remembered correctly, I think it was Nomura who claimed Lightning is a female version of Cloud. NOW that is brilliant. I'm ready for Rebirth comeback more then ever. We aware FF13 saga is over a decade back. But not the FF7R yet.

Run Rudolph Run: Clint Curtis and The Reflectors
youtube
Whenever I hear ‘Run Rudolph Run’ I’m immediately transported back to my teenage years and the first A Very Special Christmas compilation album. It featured a version of the song performed by Bryan Adams. I played it a lot. So much actually, that despite it being a Chuck Berry song, I’ll forever compare every version with Adams’ cover.
In 2017 Clint Curtis & The Reflectors covered the track for their Rock and Roll Christmas album and, I have to say, it compares very favourably. So much so, that this is the version on my Christmas playlists now.
Sorry, Bryan.
You can get Clint Curtis and The Reflectors’ Rock and Roll Christmas album at the Sevenview shop and on major streaming services.
You can also check out Clint Curtis and The Reflectors’ 2020 Christmas Special on Youtube — they don’t perform ‘Run Rudolph Run’ but the set list is full of other rock-infused Christmas classics.

More Christmas and Holiday Music from Newfoundland & Labrador
Stay tuned for more great Christmas songs from Newfoundland and Labrador.
I'm a big fan of traditional Christmas music, I love to hear a modern rendition of a 300 year old carol but, occasionally, a brand new song comes to my attention and dominates my Christmas listening. Newfoundland and Labrador's musicians have been holding their own in both regards. I’ll be sharing local songs —both old and new— from now until Christmas in my 2023 NL Music Advent Calendar.
Follow along on Instagram stories and get playlists here.
Check out: 2022’s NL Christmas music calendar.

From Oven to Doorstep: How Pizza Delivery Became a Culinary Convenience
Tumblr media
Few culinary experiences, in the age of modern convenience, better capture the union of speed and satisfaction than pizza delivery. From the sizzling oven to your door, there's an incredible story of invention, progress, and the never-ending desire for a hot, flavorful slice. Let's examine the development of pizza delivery and how it went from being a local convenience to a global culinary favorite.
A Bite of History: How Pizza Delivery Started
Pizza delivery services first appeared in the middle of the 20th century. According to legend, Queen Margherita of Italy placed the first-ever official pizza order from Pizzeria Brandi in 1889. However, pizza delivery did not really take off in the United States until the 1960s.
The Ascent of Chains: Controlling the Landscape of Delivery
Pizza chains began to flourish in the 1970s and 1980s, when businesses like Domino's and Pizza Hut introduced widespread delivery services. Along with standardizing the delivery process, these chains also brought in novel ideas, such as the guarantee of "30 minutes or it's free." This dedication to speed turned into a brand identity for pizza delivery services.
Technology Takes Over: Apps and Online Ordering
The late 20th century saw the rise of the internet, which completely changed how we order pizza. With the advent of specialized pizza delivery apps and online ordering platforms, clients could now personalize their orders, follow deliveries in real time, and even make payments online. The convenience of pizza delivery was greatly increased by this technological advancement.
Deliveries Aggregators: Increasing Choices and Availability
Delivery aggregators such as DoorDash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats have changed the pizza delivery scene even more in recent years. These platforms offer a vast menu of options beyond the conventional pizza chains by connecting patrons with a variety of neighborhood pizzerias and restaurants. Exploring a wide range of culinary options has never been easier.
Contactless Distribution: Changing with the Times
The adoption of contactless delivery practices was expedited by the global pandemic that occurred in the early 2020s. Pizza delivery services have prioritized safety by providing doorstep drop-offs and contactless payment options, much like other food delivery platforms. This adaptation demonstrated the pizza delivery industry's tenacity in the face of extraordinary difficulties.
Packaging Innovations: Maintaining Pizza's Heat and Freshness
In order to guarantee that pizzas reach your door hot and fresh right out of the oven, the industry has witnessed advancements in packaging. These days, standard features like heat-retaining materials, vented boxes, and even reheat instructions improve the overall quality of pizzas that are delivered.
