sometimes you’re a normal dm with a homebrew campaign and sometimes you’re making constellations that literally have nothing to do with the plot or the story other than it’s just fun

Allow me to tell you the tale of my first time Dming.
I was in grade 10, and my drama teacher had wanted us to trying ttrpgs since he grew up with them. I was one of 3 people who had ever played DND before (one session at a friend's house), so I volunteered to DM.
I spun up characters and a lovely campaign where my characters would sneek up a mountain to fight a dragon.
I thought I planned plenty, since the session was only 5hrs.
But oh dear readers how wrong I was.
The first problem came at a crossroads. I had planned it so that down on path was one encounter and down the other was a different encounter, thinking the party would choose one.
Oh no. The party of 4 split and two members took each path.
So I frantically made a map out of detritus from our snacking and ran both encounters.
My dragon born scared off the attackers on his path, leaving half the party with a lovely walk in the woods and the others one hp from death.
The reunited eventually,.but that causes another problem. I'd run out of things for them to do and theyd passed the door to the dragons cave
In a moment of sheer desperation, I jumped from my seat and ran to where we kept the DND rule book, which our teacher brought in to show us
(all of this took place on a Saturday at the school)
I flipped to the monsters section and began to improvise the remaining *2 hours* of the campaign
It worked, but I swore off Dming till I had played more then 1 sessions

DMing is a ton of fun, and one of my favorite activities, but GOD is it mentally straining sometimes. I have sessions that everyone enjoys where no matter what I’m going to see the flaws in and berate myself over. feels bad

I need to start posting about my adventures as a pathfinder DM because I need more people to revel with me in how much fear I instill in both players and characters for what I have in store for them.

oh the woes of running a dnd game
so i introduced the BBEG to the party in the guise of a helpful NPC happening to travel in the same direction as the party that they rescued from a burning building
and the warlock decided to flirt, and i thought it would be funny to play along
charisma rolls were made
and now the fucking BBEG is in love with the warlock

Since none of my players have an account on here, hopefully, here's a list of random things I've added into my Homebrew D&D universe:
The step-son of Cthulhu is running a vacation lodge/town for cryptids
The "Hat Man" and The Boogeyman are canonically brothers
A inter-dimensional, inter-planetary, and inter-timeline train is traversing space. It's traveling on the skeletons of a long dead race of ancient planet-sized space snakes
The human embodiment of chaos is simply walking around, munching on bags of aquarium gravel like potato chips
The moon is haunted. Seriously. That's why werewolves are scarce and the oceans are... strange
There is a god of Furbies. Whether or not they're also the previously mentioned "human embodiment of chaos" is undecided
There's an organization of assassins infiltrating people's dreams, fighting off The "Hat Man"
An ancient planet, based off of Saturn's design, was the original home to all previous D&D knowledge and old campaigns
This same planet crashed into earth, and was the asteroid(s) that killed the dinosaurs
I'll add more as things progress and the players interact with the world!

DMing the end of my "oneshot" tomorrow (only a whole month later), and I really really hope it goes as well as I want it to. I mean, I know everyone in the party is great and I trust them all and I know they'll be kind to me. I'm just hoping that I genuinely make it as fun as I know it has the potential to be.
And I'm also excited to potentially start plotting my next oneshot!! I am exceptionally bad at organization so DMing takes a TON of effort for me, but I really really really do love it. My ultimate goal is to DM a campaign someday, but I know I'm nowhere near ready for that. But I'll keep practicing and keep getting better and someday I will give it a shot.

When you have a dramatic player killing moment and one of your players points out that backstabbing wizard only has one attack per turn... and the pc she's trying to kill has a periapt of wound closure.
Like a Looney Tunes skit, the pc is now stabilizing every round, because the wizard can only ever slash 2/3 death saves necessary to actually kill her.

Me, DMing a campaign where the party has been hunting a cult for the entire campaign: I’m gonna make an NPC that hates this cult so the party can ask him questions and get helpful info!
Party member: thinks NPC is acting suspiciously and flashes stolen cult symbol to try and get an in with this ‘cult member’
Me, here we go, gotta show them that he doesn’t like the cult: he immediately tells them to leave and wants nothing more to do with them after seeing the pendant.
Party member: yep! Definitely a part of the cult.
Party member: better grab this man and drag him, kicking and screaming, into the back room of his shop
Party member: gets the guards called on them by concerned NPCs in surrounding shops
Party members: yep. The cult has control over this city.
Part member: thats why this is happening. Yep.
(To be fair, they did sense an imp in the shop. But it was a spy for the cult watching the man XD)

I have recently started Dming, and this is what happened in one of the one shots I made the gods Hírtae and Rayta are made up, their names being backwards and somewhat switched around,
With the one shot two players showed up, so I introduced an NPC named Zymoria—a dark elf Warlock with Hírtae as his earthy patron, the very god the party seeks to prevent cultists from raising. Heading to the nearest cult hideout, they encountered a bridge by a lake, wisely opting for the bridge (I added a twist with a lurking Leviathan in the lake). As they reached the bridge's midpoint, a shocking revelation unfolded—the entire structure was a mimic, prompting them to battle and overcome it.
Continuing their quest, they reached the cultists' meeting spot, patiently waiting until nighttime. As darkness fell, Zymoria, propelled out of a tree by magical forces, disclosed his rejection by his patron and revealed his new identity as a Warlock Cleric multiclass. When the cultists finally convened, the party was ambushed, uncovering Zymoria's betrayal. Despite the odds, they emerged victorious, aided by the timely intervention of Rayta, the water goddess, who healed their wounds.

Had my first DM session and it went pretty well! Currently ended in a cliffhanger of Seam and Gwen hearing some screams and running from the alley way!
Note, none of the characters have officially met except Gwen and Seam. Luna (the Bard) is sort still running her little market stand).
There was a whole side story of Brad the Doorknob Guy, but I think I’ll talk about that a later date!
