Okay but. Geralt with auditory processing issues.
The mutations wreck havok on the senses. Sure, they make his hearing range incredible, but they don’t help with the processing, and he’s constantly hearing everything at once. It’s worse for Geralt than the other witchers because he’s had the Grasses twice. (Or because he’s autistic, duh.)
It’s half the reason he communicates so much with grunts, because most of the time he’s only got half of what the other person said and he just lets them interpret his grunts however they want.
And sure, he’s heard Jaskier sing so many times in taverns and courts and his songs are catchy enough, but he’s never actually managed to catch the lyrics. It’s just all gibberish to him. As soon as there’s the lute, and noise, and they’re in a city or a town so there’s people around, he just doesn’t understand any of it. It doesn’t make his “fillingless pie” comment any less insensitive, but it does give it some context.
Every winter the other witchers will make comments about the songs they’ve heard on the Path, about this or that adventure, and Geralt is just like. That. That’s what the song was about. Oh. Eskel isn’t great at auditory processing either but he’ll ask the bards to play over and over until he’s got most of it, and since they’re songs about witchers, the bards usually comply. It’s nice to hear good news of his brother. Then he’ll tease Geralt mercilessly all winter about it. That’s the only reason Geralt even knows so much of what Jaskier sings.
However, he likes hearing snatches of song while Jaskier’s composing, when they’re camping out in the open or in a forest and there isn’t too much noise around. Then he can actually understand the words, sometimes.
He’s very, very good at pretending he can hear just fine, and he’s been doing for so long, but he does feel a little guilty about making Jaskier think he doesn’t like his music. He just doesn’t know how to explain, doesn’t think Jaskier could get it, because no one ever has. Then while they’re all in Kaer Morhen after the mess with Voleth Meir, the other witchers start asking Jaskier to sing, even though he doesn’t have a lute. They’re all completely quiet during his performances, and every time Ciri or Yen or anyone makes a noise and they miss a line, Eskel will ask Jaskier to start over. (Eskel isn’t dead, obviously.)
And one day Geralt finds Jaskier hunched over a desk, with a pile of parchment beside him and his notebook open in front of him, frantically copying something.
“What are you doing?” he asks.
“I’m making copies of my songs,” Jaskier answers. “I’ve actually published the whole songbook in Oxenfurt, you know, but we can’t get it here, and Eskel said that having the lyrics would help, so I’m trying to make enough for everyone.”
Geralt’s mind is boggled because yes, having the lyrics written down would help immensely but he would never have thought to ask, let alone that Jaskier might actually be willing to write them down for him, and what’s that about a songbook? He almost just grunts and leaves him to it, but he remembers that he promised himself to at least try to communicate better with Jaskier after the mountain, so he asks in a very small voice, “Can I have one?”
And Jaskier’s jaw hangs slack for a moment before he coughs and hands him a stack of parchment. “I wasn’t sure you’d want it,” he mutters almost to himself.
“I always want to know what you’re singing,” Geralt says.
Jaskier’s eyes are wide and shining when he hugs Geralt, and his voice cracks a little. “I wish I’d realized sooner that you couldn’t hear it.”
That night he sings his entire song cycle a capella in front of the fire, his eyes boring into Geralt the entire time, as Geralt follows the lyrics along for the first time.
And Jaskier’s songs are really fucking good, actually. Geralt is hardly an expert, but he can see the way he bends and stretches language to make it flow and how he weaves the stories together and he can feel the love in how Jaskier sings about him, about them, and---
Is that what he’s been missing this whole time?
Brought to you by: the long-ass time it took me to get into The Amazing Devil’s wonderful music because I couldn’t fucking hear the words until I sat down and listened to every song while following along with the written lyrics.

Beware the wrath of a Nymph, especially if you harm their forest or their beloved. The Nymph's fury fuses with the forces of nature, and nothing can deter their vengeance.
Juilan, a unique being, is born of a human father and a full Nymph mother who fell in love. Raised in two worlds, he divided his days between Lettenhove, learning to be a Viscount, and the forest, where he connected with nature. It was a constant lesson for him to control his anger.
As time passed, Juilan became the Bard known as Jaskier and joined Geralt on his travels. During their adventures, Jaskier fell in love with Geralt, empathizing with his parents' feelings. Although he concealed his Nymph heritage, Geralt always sensed something extraordinary about his companion.
Their relationship takes a painful turn when Geralt, in a fit of rage, hurls hurtful words atop a mountain. Heartbroken, Jaskier retreats to Lettenhove, seeking solace in nature.
Upon his return, he discovers a devastating scene. Nilfgaard, in its quest for conquest, has ravaged Lettenhove. Nifflgaardian soldiers have taken his home and killed his parents.
In that moment, Jaskier's rage engulfs him, and he becomes one with the forest, using his powers to exact vengeance upon the Nifflgaard soldiers. But the price is high; he loses all memory of his human life.
Meanwhile, as Geralt and Ciri journey together, they hear rumors of Lettenhove. A town claimed by nature, guarded by a vengeful Nymph who slays any human who enters. Curiosity piqued, Geralt and Ciri investigate Lettenhove, hoping to quell the Nymph's rampage.
To his surprise, Geralt discovers that Jaskier is the Nymph but is heartbroken to realize that Jaskier no longer recognizes him, perceiving him as just another intruder in his forest. Unable to harm Jaskier, Geralt and Ciri withdraw from Lettenhove.
Now, Geralt and Ciri embark on a quest to find a way to calm the enraged Nymph and reunite with the Jaskier they once knew.

||The Witcher tarot | The Fool | Jaskier||
[Other cards of the Witcher tarot can be found here and on my Instagram art account]
[DO NOT REPOST OR REUSE WITHOUT LEGAL AND EXPLICIT AUTHORIZATION]
First piece of my new project of making a Witcher-inspired major arcanas
I’ve decided to draw everyone’s favourite bard as The Fool for the first card. This card is considered the protagonist of sorts of the major arcana; so at first I thought I’d draw Ciri, but thinking about it, the keywords generally associated with it matched Jaskier more. Plus, Jaskier is writing down his memoirs and Geralt’s adventures in the books, and even in The Witcher 3, he’s the narrator, so it just made sense.  For Jaskier’s design, I think I restarted the sketch like 6 times. I wanted to do a mix between the canon description in the books and the third game’s design. A blend of his long hair in the books, but I kinda liked him as a brunette. I wanted to give him a really pretty and sophisticated minstrel look, inspired by his outfit in TW3. I added some traditional Polish embroidery patterns on his sleeves and dandelion patterns on the background, as a reminder of his artist name in the books.
Hope I'll finish it quickly and post more cards soon!

His home is them
I loved this season that we see Jaskier part of the found family. Weird uncle Jaskier 😊. But there is a point that seems recurrent in S3, but that roots in S1 and S2 : Jaskier doesn't have a house and doesn't seem to want one. He never speaks about his family, only places to go.
The wandering bard
The Book!Jaskier (lets give him his english name for practical reason - Dandelion) is a travelling bard also but he seems to enjoy city's comfort way more than Netflix one. Like, Jaskier is at ease in cities with all the comfort he wants and so, but way more adaptive to all kind of fields. Also in his design, he feels more like a wandering bard.
Dandelion is more like Valdo kind of wandering bard in his appearance, with bright colors. He adapts surprisingly well to tougher moments and places, but to the court environment also. Jaskier can do that too (S1) but to the point where we find him in S3, like not anymore. He barely remembers how to act in front of a prince.
When we see Valdo, we can see glimpse of the former Jaskier pursuing fame, in his sofisticated outfits in S1, yet even the Jaskier back then was not afraid of not been clean all the time. By the end of the mountain episode, he had durt on his face and his outfit, and didn't seem to bother much. What mattered to him was his friend.
But after the mountain, Jaskier turns into a more adventurous person on his own. And the contrast with Valdo is more visible.
Tumblr media
Valdo has a rich doublet, very clean clothes and hairdo. Everything is for parade. Jaskier has rich clothes too and some jewellery but he is more in a kind of free style and his trousers and boots have clearly seen many roads. His outfit is now more practical.
No fixed home
This is something that come across several times in S3 (vol 1 to date).
First Vespula throws him out of her home. Before the reconciliation. Still it's her place. A recurring one, as Geralt knows where to find him. On a side note, I guess Vespula is one of his muses, as she throw his music sheet out of the window. So he is probably composing at her place.
But then, still with Vespula, she jokes giving him bad titles for other countries because he is having affairs everywhere. So he is still wandering the Continent, even with her as an anchor.
When Radovid proposes him to become Redania's royal bard, he laughs. "No, a staid life at court is not for me". Later when he chooses to accept the proposal in exchange of Rience death, he grins while saying that he could maybe settle there.
But why does he say he could stay at one place ? It's clearly not for Radovid at this point. He is intrigued but has not fallen for him yet. The answer is : if Redania welcomes his found family then this is where he belongs 😭.
The found family is his home
Since S1, being with Geralt seems his natural habitat. As long as he is with him, he seems thriving. Also Geralt is a wandering man himself, a hard life for a soft boy but going everywhere, anywhere, is kind of his thing, innit ?
Sleeping outside, no problem. Washing in a lake, no problem. Going to the hunts, or near, no problem. As long as he is with Geralt...
We also see him trying to bound with Geralt's world, the dwarves, the others witchers... But it doesn't work at first.
In S2, we see him opening his heart to Yennefer. They are still frennemis but there is respect and acceptance, deep down. And she learns that he is a true friend.
This season, we see him earning respect from Yarpen Zigrin, like he has become strong enough to run into battles and help those who need. He is no warrior but he has a knight heart.
But most of all, we see how he has bounded with Ciri. The last member of the found family. He can't protect her like Geralt or Yennefer, with magic and swords. But he protects the last glimpses of true childhood she has left. He doesn't cary the gloom accompanying her destiny. He sees her like she is without any judgment over her capabilities and powers. She is just a little girl who needs her laugh and ray of sunshine. And he gives that to her without restrictions.
His home is where his White Wolf goes. His home is where his mama Witch need his shoulder. His home is when he can make his pocket sized Princess giggle and smile.

The Witcher AU where everything is the same except Jaskier and Radovid have been married the entire time.
Like, that day that Jaskier and Geralt meet for the first time Jaskier has just recently run away from the Redanian court and is desperately trying to get as much adventure as possible before he is inevitably dragged back to his husband. Which is exactly what happens when one day Radovid - a very disappointed and exasperated Radovid - shows up in the inn they are staying and asks nicely (ok, demands) that Jaskier stops this idiotic temper tantrum and come back with him. Has he not humiliated him enough? Even the king noticed that Julian has not been around lately and given the amount of interest the king has in anything that Radovid has ever done (which is near zero), that is saying something.
So Jaskier leaves, leaving a stunned Geralt behind not to be seen again… until several months later when he is is once again “out and about”, bothering Geralt. Court life is grand and splendid but if he had to sit in the castle for one more day, he’d jump out of the highest tower.
And so the cycle continues. Sometimes Jaskier is the one that leaves, sometimes he announces that him and Radovid had a falling out and he’s being exiled (temporarily), sometimes he says nothing just… shows up and stays until he’s once again summoned or decides to go back.
Pretty much all the events happen as they happen until s2 and 3 where all the politics and intrigue starts to catch up with Jaskier. His work as Sandpiper is twice as dangerous and carries a lot of political implications for Radovid (how easy would it be to say he’s complicit, get him executed for treason, shift the balance of power a bit, set up some worthy cousin as the heir). Dijkstra and Philippa cackling in glee realising that they have the husband of heir presumptive to the throne of Redania in the palm of their hands. S3 comes and the mess gets even worse. Suddenly Radovid and Jaskier have to spend time together actually talking and not just politely existing in the same spaces at the same time, and, to make the matters worse, after 20 something years of marriage they are suddenly, inexplicably starting to fall in love with each other? Like, for real? The hell??
And then Vizimir dies. Radovid ascends to the throne. Lord Julian, Duke of something or other becomes Prince Consort Julian. And you know what is the one thing that everyone would very much like to see? Radovid marrying Ciri. Alas, he’s married…
Unless… 🔪 👱‍♂️
Jaskier once again has to run but this time not because he wants to go on an adventure but because he’s literally hunted by a lot of interested parties with a lot of clashing interests and Radovid can only help him as much.

Calm in the Storm
Someone spotted Sam the Baker in the background of the ferry scene and I had to write this. It's just Jaskier and Sam talking about their new relationships, so it's mostly gen with background Jaskier/Radovid.
Gen. Warnings : Canon Typical Violence and Season 3 spoilers. 1,200 words.
Jaskier & Sam the Baker, background Jaskier/Radovid
---
Geralt and Ciri should be here any moment now, but Jaskier spots another familiar face while he scans the crowd.  He waves in greeting and the man smiles wide before making his way over to him.
"Jaskier!" He cries out, dragging him into a tight embrace.  "How are you doing?  Why are you all the way out here?  Are you helping with the ball, too?"
"One question at a time, my dear Sam," Jaskier says, laughing as he pecks him quickly on the cheek.  In days past, it would have been on the mouth, but Jaskier’s heart seems to have latched onto his little prince.  Radovid and Sam lead as different lives as possible, but they're so similar; both kind and caring and so sweet to him.
"Glad you aren't pushing for more," Sam says with a shy smile.  "I've finally taken a husband."
"Congratulations, my dear friend!" Jaskier exclaims before hugging him tighter.  "Tell me all about him."
"Teddy is the miller's son, and apparently I was spending more time there than even a baker needs to.  He took the initiative and started courting me.  Sadly, it took me far too long to notice what he was doing.  But we got there eventually, and we'll be married half a year by the time I get home from this ball."
"That sounds perfectly you," Jaskier tells him with a snort.  "I find myself a bit enraptured with someone myself.  He seems to be a good man, but we have yet to figure things out.  He is…incredible.  Just truly brilliant and funny and yet there is a softness under the armor he's put up to protect himself from life at court."
"Ah, a fellow nobleman, then?  That sounds like a good match for you.  I have never seen you look so smitten, so I hope it works out for you," Sam says.  Then he looks back at his travel companions, shaking his head at the man waving at him.  "Looks like my apprentice has a problem again. You'd think baking for a large party would be an adventure and not so worrisome."
"I look forward to seeing you again," Jaskier pats him on the back and watches him wander away.  He tries to keep in touch with past lovers, and has always made a point to swing by Sam's bakery whenever he could.  Normally they fell into bed together, Jaskier playing his body like a fine instrument all night long followed by Sam spoiling him with sweets come morning.
Usually moving someone from lover to old flame tugs at his heartstrings considerably  more than it does today.  He knows a certain cheeky prince has a lot to do with that, and he vows to find an excuse to visit after the ball.  He sits back down and waits for Geralt and Ciri to arrive, feeling a tad lighter than before.
Jaskier holds back his tears as he leaves Radovid, not ready to process everything that just happened.  A fucking prince would give up everything he has to follow him around the continent?  It’s a heady kind of power, and not one Jaskier is sure he deserves.  However hurt he was this morning, his heart still yearns for Radovid.  The pain on his face when Jaskier gave him an escape route and said they couldn't be together yet was enough to convince Jaskier that his actions were driven by fear and his feelings are true.
But right now the building is in ruins and there’s a fucking bloodbath surrounding him, so Jaskier has to lock down his thoughts and focus on the present.  He’s going room by room, frantically looking for Geralt or Yennefer, and doesn’t notice the familiar face at first.  He stands in the doorway and looks at Sam peering around an overturned table.
“Sam?” he asks, and the man stands up slowly.  There’s no blood on him, but his eyes are wide with fear and Jaskier’s heart goes out to him.  Jaskier is more indifferent to violence than the average person, and Sam most likely never left his home before.
“Jaskier!” he spits out, voice trembling as he crosses the room and pulls Jaskier into a tight hug.  “What the fuck happened here?  One minute I’m in the guest room they provided and the next I’m running for my life and stuck in the middle of a battle.  Is it safe now?”
“Not exactly, though it is better,” Jaskier assures him while thinking how he can help.  He trusted Radovid to handle his contacts and travel alone, but Sam is different.  “Wait here, and I’ll come back with help, can you do that?”
“Sure thing,” Sam says with a laugh.  “I’ll go back to cowering behind the table.”
“I may not be back, but I promise I’ll send someone to get you out of here,” he says, hugging Sam one last time before leaving the room and walking back out into the chaos.  He’ll get Sam back to his miller’s son one way or another.
He tries to avoid looking at the bodies strewn about, but it’s hard not to.  So much loss and all for no reason.  He sighs and pushes on until he distractedly runs right into someone.  “So sorry!” he mumbles before he recognizes the person in front of him.  “Keira!”
“If it isn’t Yennefer’s bard,” she says with a grin.
“More of the mages’ bard at this point,” Jaskier tells her softly.  And it’s true.  He may have started out with just Yennefer, but he makes sure to introduce himself to any mages he comes across on his travels.  Sometimes it’s a way to get news of his friends, and sometimes it’s simply a way to find a friendly face in the middle of this gods damned war.  He has always had a soft spot for Keira and her fiery personality.
“I am so glad you are here.  You look relatively unharmed?” Jaskier asks hopefully.
“Just so fucking tired my bones ache, and I’m ignoring everything else until we get to safety.  There may not be many survivors, but it’s our job to protect them and lead them out of our home,” Keira tells him quickly.
“I hope you have the strength to help one more.  I left a friend at the first doorway on the left, and he was here to help with the catering.  He won’t know how to get himself home without a little help,” he explains and thankfully she nods quickly.
“Go find Yennefer, and I’ll see to your friend.  I’ll even work for free this time!” she jokes, and Jaskier clings to the way they can both still find joy in a time like this.
“I’ll write a song about you,” Jaskier promises, “Something sultry and mystical.  I’ll have it ready before we meet again.”
“Take care of yourself, bard,” she tells him before heading towards Sam’s room.  Jaskier watches her for a moment before continuing his search for Geralt and Yennefer.  He’s taken care of as many people as he can, and he needs to make sure his family is safe now.

Okay, while I most definitely find every way the Witcher series portrays characters falling in love nonesensical (see Yeralt and Radskier), I actually love both of these ships a lot? 🤷‍♀️ Brain confused but I guess I love it.
So now I'm thinking about Radskier lots...
First and foremost, he's KING Radovid now. Slipped my mind. He's currently trapped in a horrible position in which, honestly, he's not safe or his life is threatened at any moment.
He lost his brother, and while, yes, his brother was the worst, I think he still loved him. And while he didn't care all that much for his brother's wife, seeing her beheaded (and knowing its from machinations within the castle) is brutal.
I get the impression that Radovid isn't comfortable with death and violence. He's a bit of a coward, that would probably learn to overcome his fears for Jaskier.
Jaskier is the first person Radovid has ever loved. The first person who's seen through Radovid's mask of drunk useless younger brother, who makes a fool out of himself, who will never be taken seriously despite his older brother's constant attempts to give him something of value to do.
Radovid has always been capable but he lacked the interest, except for Jaskier and his music. Something in Jaskier's music drew Radovid to him. (But from the druids crying - we can see that Jaskier's music brings that out in people)
Presuming Radovid hasn't ever seen Jaskier in person until they met this season, Radovid found Jaskier's lyrics to be the astounding part of him. Jaskier who talks so honestly about love and aching. About Geralt's adventures, in a way where everyone marvels and wants to see them or be there or can easily imagine them. Jaskier sings of heroes, and lovers. Honest men and women, while also being silly in some songs. Studying Jaskier's music, he can study Jaskier.
Jaskier, being able to see threw Geralt's mask, Yennefer's mask (once he didn't see her as a love rival anymore), through Ciri's troubles, and the hearts of people long dead. He can see through Radovid too, and whatever he sees in Radovid is something so strong, it combats his love for Geralt. What does he see in Radovid?
Radovid becomes King Radovid the Stern, a far cry from what we see of him in Season 3. How far does Radovid change? Will we see him become more vengeful and hateful to mages like he does in the games? He would have ample reason too, of course, his two confidants being who they are. Jaskier being the figure of peace he is to people, and how he sees life as well, how will they meet each other next time?
Radovid hearing news of Jaskier and Geralt's adventures and using his resources to help Jaskier specifically. Because Geralt, Yen, and Ciri are Jaskier's family so they get special treatment. So that Jaskier's enemies are Radovid's own.
Radovid under the thumb of Dijkstra and Phillipa, but hopefully not for long. Radovid is intelligent, but a coward, maybe we will get to see him overcome his fears in Season 4.
Anyway, I'm obsessed with them now. ❤️

One fateful day, while Geralt and Yennefer were away, they decided to entrust Ciri and Jaskier to Geralt's brothers. However, things took an unexpected turn when a sudden explosion shook things up.
In the ensuing chaos, Jaskier and Ciri went missing, and none of Geralt's brothers wanted to be the bearer of the news that they had lost the princess and the bard. Now, each of them is discreetly searching for the two, desperately trying to locate them before Geralt and Yennefer return.
As for Jaskier and Ciri, they are surprisingly unscathed. Ciri's adventurous spirit led her to Nerbay town, where she intended to engage in a knife fight. Meanwhile, Jaskier was eager to craft a ballad about this very knife fight.

Which Witcher is Witch?
Note: I know there are multiple-in universe Witchers. This post is specifically in regard to the title of the franchise. It's time to address something in The Witcher fandom. In the Witcher novels you have a monster hunter (called a Witcher) named Geralt of Rivia, who adopts an orphaned princess from a fallen kingdom. Her name is Ciri. Geralt had accidentally claimed Ciri via a magical invocation known as "Law of Surprise." When you call upon Law of Surprise in front of someone, whatever they gain next now belongs to you. It can be as random as a sack of flour or a puppy. But the thing about Law of Surprise is it invokes Destiny itself and once invoked it cannot be denied. The person who called upon Law of Surprise cannot decline what he has claimed and the person who has to give the thing cannot refuse to give it or Destiny will intervene to make it happen. Geralt had invoked Law of Surprise (without realizing it) in front of a pregnant royal. When he learned she was pregnant he fled rather than take her child. Twelve-years-later the kingdom was sieged and Princess Ciri was the only survivor, forcing Geralt to embrace his Destiny and accept her as his adoptive daughter.

Now, when I first got into The Witcher a fan boy scolded me that Ciri could not count as a "real" Witcher and that "the author said so." He insisted that because she never underwent the Trial of the grasses she would never count as REAL Witcher no matter what was said in the novels or video games. This was before I learned how the novels and video games actually end, mind you, or perhaps I would have had a better rebuttal for this totally-not-a-misogynist. Recently I saw some interviews with the showrunner and writer for The Witcher Netflix TV series. I am well-aware that there have been many deviations from the novels but I do find it a suspicious tell that the two main things that seem to offend certain fan boys are 1. The canonical realization that Jaskier is bisexual / pansexual and 2. The idea that Ciri will become a Witcher, herself...
The best scenario ending of the third Witcher video game (Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt) is Ciri becomes a Witcher, herself, and goes off on her own adventures. In the novels Ciri eventually ends up in another universe (possibly our own) where she rides off the Knights of The Round Table. The TV series is already hinting at going in the direction of Ciri becoming a Witcher, herself. And now the showrunners have pretty much confirmed that Ciri is the actual main protagonist of the show. But there are angry fanboys whining "But Geralt is The Witcher!" No. Not necessarily. The title may be subversive. You thought you were following the adventures of The Witcher this whole time when you were watching Geralt but the reality is Ciri is who the title is for. Ciri is also The Witcher. Now there are angry fans whining and bemoaning the idea that Netflix has "changed The Witcher" and made Ciri the main character even though "The title is for Geralt." Not necessarily. I'm not sure why so many of the fans seem to be reacting badly to this. It was kind of expected the whole time. It's how the video games end, which are actually set after the novels. And in the novels she rides off with some of King Arthur's men. She's pretty much The Witcher there too. I'm getting deja vu of the angry "My adventures with Superman" fans from just a few days ago who whined about what a "Simp" Clark is for Lois- meaning he's doting and devoted to her and wants for her happiness. Superman was always like this... Fanboys, this sort of sexism went out style in the sixties.
