Im writing a fanfic about log horizon and fell so hard in the rabbit hole that i just downloaded and installed ffxiv to get a "feel" for what mmorpg are. For authenticity sake. This is literally my first mmorpg inmy life and I was wondering, do you have any advixe to newbies about the game?
Take your time, do what interests you, don't be afraid to just mess around and goof off.
Learn your rotation and read your skill tooltips. It's not a big deal early on, but by level 50 or so you should understand how your job works.
Be polite to your fellow players and they'll most likely be nice to you in return.
Take breaks. If you're not feeling it, step away and do something else, don't feel like you *have* to keep playing to keep up or make progress for progress's sake.
And most importantly, be prepared to become utterly obsessed with your created character. It WILL happen.

Hi! Do you know any good media/writing sources with androids/robots or any writing advixe about it? I’m planning on writing an original fiction story that has two of the major characters as robot/androids, with one being a POV character, and I was wondering if I could see examples of how other people have done it.
…Actually, on that note, do you have any advice on how to write aliens? This is a really weird book.
I love your and Vinelle’s works - they’re really good and every time I think about How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love the Bacchanals I just sigh in awe of how awesome it is! Have a great day!
Ooh, look @therealvinelle, praise!
Writing Advice in General
The thing about writing is it isn't like art.
There are no guides on how to write specific characters the way there's guides on how to draw certain animals, people, objects, etc. If there were, I wouldn't trust them, as they wouldn't be written by anyone who has any idea what they're doing.
Writing advice kind of starts and stops with classic prompts, breaking down stories into the traditional structures (hero's journey, three-act tragedy, five-act tragedy) and noting well-known writing techniques.
And this is because what you're asking is what I'd call... advanced.
You're at the point of creating your characters to tell a story and want very specific things. You have to come up with what that is and why that works, people can't do it for you.
My Two Cents: It Might Not Matter
The thing about both robots and aliens is they're all over the place in terms of characterization. What you do and how you do it is dependent on what story you want to tell.
There's works where robots are very benign and essentially human, works where robots are not benign but essentially human, where robots are benign but not human, and where they're malicious evil.
Similar with aliens, some works have incredibly human aliens (in both appearance and behavior) some have wildly different aliens.
My point is that you can get away with almost whatever characterization you want, so long as you're consistent and it aids your story your readers will not care.
Whenever I do it, personally, I think of characters being informed by their society as well as... we'll call it biological imperitive. Machines are created to serve a person (one that may not align with human values/traditional human desires), aliens will have their own psychology that will greatly inform who they are and what actions they take.
Think at a base level what the characters want and value and that will inform both what they do and how they communicate.
Things with Aliens and Robots
If you're looking for examples though I suppose I can list out a few.
Alien (great inhuman/malicious aliens as well as androids, highly recommend)
Prometheus (the film by Ridley Scott) (great human/malicious android, less aliens)
I, Robot (the book) (not the best writing or the most interesting but Asimov laid the groundwork for thinking about robotics in science fiction, everyone has some nod towards Asimov and it's good to at least know of)
Blade Runner (great very human robots who aren't quite up to snuff)
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (not as much focus on the robots but one should always read PKD)
Ex Machina (the android and what they know is the focal point of the movie)
Casshern Sins (the entire cast is androids)
Pretty much anything by Philip K. Dick (not all his stuff is about aliens and androids but... it comes up a lot and it's very good)
The Left Hand of Darkness (the aliens are very human in this one but it shows a lot of nuance of a very different society and what that would mean for the aliens)
The Host by Stephanie Meyer (yes, bear with me, Wanda's very human but the aliens are very well thought out and make a lot of sense)
Dune and Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert (not on aliens, really, but Paul gets very out there in terms of his visions and it's very good at looking at why cultures develop certain ways due to environment and terrain)
And I suppose I'd be remiss/a coward not to note that I've written several fics that star inhuman/alien/robotic characters so you can see at least how I've done it.
The Seventh Seal (starring essentially an alien/android)
Of Shepherds and Kings (starring the personification of a nation)
Morilden (starring essentially an alien)
October (starring essentially an alien)
Finishing the Hat (starring an alien god)
The Wasteland (starring essentially an android)
Light and Shadow of the Distant Sun (starring an alien)
Most things I write have aliens or androids, actually.

i keep seeing the talking point of like "if someone upsets you, you need to bring it up immediately so you can resolve it as quickly as possible instead of sitting with it" and i think the crux of that is good advice, and I think it's probabaly juat generally good advixe to most people but i can't DO that because when someone upsets me, i never realize until way later. like my emotions have to ferment or some shit. like it's the weirdedt fucking thing. my brain will not let me process emotions in real time. like if i was in a social situation and someone said something awful to me and u pulled me to the side and asked me if i was okay, I'd be like "what, why?" because my brain is??? idk maybe too focused on navigating being around other ppl. so then i never notice like that someone hurt me or pissed me off until I've had some time alone and my brain finally catches me up on everything that happened. and at that point its like. how do i even bring this up? would brining it up at this point make it worse?
you know what i mean? like maybe these are just incoherent ramblings from a traumatized brain but ive been so BUGGED by that lately not because its like Bad or because people Shouldnt Do That but because i dont qant people to think that because I bring something up at a later date, ive been getting grudgy over it. its like no i actually only just realized it happened. to me, this IS bringing it up when it happened.
like its already hard enough to bring things up at a later date so im just nervous abt that mentality making the rounds and becoming the new Internet Life Rule that ppl ascribe to fully.

Oh wow I’m a love doctor now eh! 😎 I like it Picasso! Sweetheart, that’s 3 years! That’s not a bad age gap at all! Why do you think it’s weird? I don’t want to assume any genders and hurt feelings so please correct me if I say something wrong — but I would assume you’re dating a younger guy? from the experience I’ve made by dating a younger guy it feels a little strange when the roles are switched. BUT HEY PLEASE ELABORATE! IDK WHY YOU THINK IM FIT FOR HELP BUT IM HERE TO GIVE ADVIXE ANYWAY! — Belle

do you have essay advixe? i need to write about a theory that i think is most important for social work but i can't decide on anything bcuz i feel so underinformed bcuz i feel like i only get half of what they say in college
Can you pick anything? Like, anything at all as long as you can explain why it is important for us social workers? Because if so, I'd suggest writing about constructivism!
In case you don't know, let me tell you what it is and why: Constructivism is a theory on how people learn and process information. As the name indicates, the theory is that instead of picking up and processing information passively, people actually gather up information and use that to construct their own reality. This, in turn, leads to differences in how each individual views the world and its rules.
Constructivism has a lot of facettes and different levels, with some supporters going as far as saying that no two individuals can live the same reality. My world, my reality can never be yours simply because we built it entirely on our own. (That's radical constructivism, btw.)
There's a lot of sources for it in multiple languages and a lot of high ranking people have indirectly used or openly supported the theory of constructivism, so its not based on nothing and should be easy to properly support with good arguments and sources.
And as for the importance: As a social worker, it can be easy to forget that the client is the expert. Not us. We, we know all the how's, sure, but the client is the expert on their own life. What they want, what they need and how they need it might not always align with what society says it should and it can be easy to try and push for some societal norm when it doesn't concern yourself.
Understanding that our own reality and opinions don't matter as much as the clients simply by understanding that their reality can be entirely different from ours is really really important and helpful. It keeps us from riding too high on our expertise.
I don't remember everyone involved with constructivism, but I know Ernst von Glaserfeld was huge on it and so was Heinz von Forester. Maria Montessori, Jean Piaget and Paul Watzlawick also dabbled in it, but there's a ton more people so just hit up Google scholar and you'll find them.
Hope that helps!
