notes: not proofread, gender neutral reader, swearing, written in hc form so it’s short/weird, reverse isekai trope, written in one day

trusting tighnari with your plants.

he’s experienced in the botanical area, so have him tend to them. it’ll also give him an opportunity to study/observe said plant(s), so just have him watch your plants when you don’t have the time. he’ll be very happy.

but if he finds out that you haven’t been caring for them before the isekai fiasco, he will scold you. and then give you a lecture on why and how you should care for them.

if you have like a book on plants/biology/anything plant related, he’ll be thrilled to read such a book from you. he will spend sleepless nights reading it, and you have to remind him to take it easy.

nilou, yun jin, and eula playing just dance.

nilou’s having a great time, ended up getting high scores while eula is flustered but she still maintains her graceful stature when dancing.

eula didn’t want to play at first because she’s suspicious of the game, but she was dragged into playing so she didn’t have any other choice. she ended up liking it but of course she doesn’t admit it. and yun jin is just glad she gets to be a part of it.

having venti listen to your playlists.

as it’s known, he knows every song in existence. but listening to your playlists, he’s surprised he’s never heard of such a tune before. because, you know, he’s not from your world.

but even so, it reels him in wanting more. so he begs you to borrow your phone to listen to your playlists, especially new ones you just made.

when you left your phone somewhere unattended and venti came across it, he looked both sides before snagging your phone off of its place to listen to your playlists in secret. ehe.

aether & lumine being your errand buddies.

if you’re planning to go out to run an errand like buying groceries or something, these two are the first ones to volunteer to help. i know they do everything in teyvat; doing shit for everyone and all that but this is different. when they got isekai’d, they’re reunited! (i’m going to ignore the abyss sibling bullshit okay let me write in peace i want these two to be happy)

so they’re returning the favor by assisting you in anything! even in your house, they still help you with chores and whatnot! which made you worry for them, so you’ve decided to arrange a time where you all could sit and chat. they talked about their journeys to other worlds, and you could listen to them talk for hours.

introducing heizou to true crime documentaries.

ohhhhh boy you know he will binge the SHIT out of them. now that he doesn’t have to deal with missing pets, he has something interesting to indulge himself in.

he ends up figuring out who’s the culprit before the show could even reveal who. which shocks you, if you’re the type to take a long time trying to connect the dots.

if you show him some unsolved cases, you know damn well he’ll look/watch into it. you have a smart detective on your hands, and if he ends up solving them as well, you must be writhing in pride that you and heizou are the only ones who know the truth.

kazuha asking you to go out on a stroll from time to time.

one time when he accompanies you and your errand buddies because he wants to see what your world looks like in addition to lending another hand, he wants to see that again. the wind, the sky, the view, all of that. it’s all unique to him.

so, expect him to ask you if you’d like to go out on a little stroll for a while. it’s an excuse for him to feel what your world would be like, to digest its features and compliment it all in a poetic sense.

most likely points out the colors of the leaves you guys walk by. he’s just blabbering about nature while you’re out here digesting his words and your mind turns into an actual tree from listening.

teaching xiao everything you know about your world.

yes, this seems bland, but listen. xiao is oblivious to how teyvat works in terms of tradition/humans, and now that he’s isekai’d to your world, you have to teach this poor innocent individual.

he needs information in order to adapt to this new world he’s not familiar with, knowing there’s not really a way out.

xiao is listening intently and nodding to everything you say, asking questions at the same time.

this isn’t part of the headcanon, but he’s also cautious when you say you’re going to go out at night especially when aether & lumine are busy with other matters. if that were to happen he will be the one to step in. no danger will befall you when you have a yaksha by your side.

Archetypography

Now as some of you know, and as some of you loathe, I’m a pretty cruel B/W player at times. I got my Kambal EDH deck with all the wipes and draw and the double-infinite combo nonsense. And when I look up the B/W archetypes, things seems to fall into that vein pretty reasonably. Let’s be real: if it were aether instead of gold/treasure, Kambal as a character would be right at home among the Orzhov. Even the card wouldn’t feel out of place. There’s this recurring flavor of these aloof, authoritarian, self-satisfactory religious characters on so many B/W cards across sets. The vampires from Ixalan had an amazing feel but were still religious zealots. Innistradian vampires retain arrogant nobility.

So then we get to Silverquill. And honestly, I’m on the fence about this one, y’know? I’m a poet myself, and when playing a strong Silverquill deck, I’m still feeling more of the smug spirit wrangler than any kind of writer. I mean, Humiliate is a prime example. +1/+1 counters and pseudo-heroic is fun and fine. I’m just not sure it’s different enough.

But here’s the thing: it was new flavorful territory. It was still fun to play! And on the flip-side of my hesitation, Closing Statement was my favorite card to draft from that set for sure. It meshed the mechanics and the flavor of a closing remark plus the power of a reduced destruction spell. Awesome! So the question is: what will you write about? 

🛠 This week’s challenge: design a card that captures a unique flavorful feel for a color combination, an archetype that has not been seen in those colors before either flavorfully or mechanically.

✏️ NB: A winning submission will take their colors, find that unique new archetype, and demonstrate how mechanics/flavor can be presented.

✏️ You are designing for a standard-legal set, with the knowledge that your card will inform a draft archetype as well. You can choose to make this a supporting card, a bomb, a signpost, etc.

✏️ While you don’t have to completely dump your lore for a new plane, an as-of-yet-unseen world will probably be implied. Let your card speak to it as much as possible.

Printed examples:

Throne of Eldraine’s UR archetype was about drawing your second card each turn. Cards like Loch Dragon supported the primary signpost cards like Improbably Alliance. While Improbable Alliance plays well with Radical Idea and the love of U/R looting, the second-drawn-card archetype stands separate from traditional U/R spellcasting niches that define the Izzet and found their way onto planes like Ikoria (Lutri, the Spellchaser) and Amonkhet (Enigma Drake). Improbable Alliance is a good mechanical example with decent flavor.

Captured by Lagacs takes place, presumably, on Zendikar (considering), although Modern Horizons 2 doesn’t take place in a singular location. Regardless, Pacifism effects aren’t usually G/W but have edged there before, and with white it’s totally mechanically fine. The counters are a nice touch. My favorite part, though, the most memorable part? The flavor. Your creature, on this world, is getting whisked away by my lizards, my power. It’s a unique demonstration of that effect where it’s usually chains or magical restraints or someone arresting you. Animals as bonds and power! Captured by Lagacs isn’t the most mechanically unique, but it’s a great new flavor.

Your challenge then becomes: how do I marry the two?

What world have I created?

What can my colors do together and/or apart?

What’s fun to play?

What limits do I have to set?

How am I conveying flavor through mechanics without it being a gimmick?

This is another hard one, but I mean, there are 15 20, oh my god, I can’t count, combinations between two-and-three color combos. I’ll be curious to see if there’s overlap between people who aren’t in the Workshop.

summary: when you lose your job out of the blue, you're pretty sure this is the end of the road for you. at least until you reconnect with your childhood best friend aether and he offers you your ideal job and a place to stay. the only condition is that his office will be behind the store you'll be running, and under no circumstances are you permitted to enter. that's how you begin your new life as a florist, though you're not sure how to focus on working when aether seems to have too many pretty boys working both for and against him. your fresh start gets a whole lot more interesting when you discover just how many secrets these men are hiding, but somehow you think you'll still be able find the elysian ending of your dreams.

"y/n, come on! it's raining, shouldn't you be inside?" aether's concerned voice rings out as you laugh, spinning around in a circle until you're dizzy enough to flop onto the ground. "are you okay?!" your boyfriend panics, rushing over to you with paimon floating closely behind him. "yup!" you smile up at him joyfully, admiring how the raindrops collect on his eyelashes and make them shimmer, and enjoying the feel of the wet grass cooling you down. "ahhh, rain really is amazing after how hot liyue summers are," you stretch like a cat and reply. aether plops onto the grass next to you, "that's true for sure." "yeah! liyue's summer climate really isn't paimon-friendly," paimon chirps, doing a little flip in the air. she sticks her tongue out to taste the rain before spitting in disgust, prompting both of you to laugh, "ew! maybe the rain isn't either..."

you pull yourself up into a sitting position, and let aether lie in your lap while your hands run through his blonde hair. for him, the gesture has always been intimate and loving, filling him with warmth and reminding him how lucky he is to have you. his eyes slide shut as he relaxes into your touch, entirely tranquil, at least until paimon slaps him. "what was that for!?" his eyes snap open in surprise, a tiny red hand-print forming on the side of his face. paimon shrugs, "there was a bug!" aether groans, "you could have just told me!" "i was trying to help!" "whatever, floating child." "stop copying albedo!" you merely giggle at their interactions, which never fail to be hilarious.

aether's gaze travels upwards to meet yours, but suddenly he stands up quickly and stumbles away, a red blush darkening his cheeks. "aether...?" you tilt your head and ask quizzically, while noting how the rain still falls gently, dripping down your face and soaking your skin. "ah... uh, how do i say this?" your boyfriend rubs the back of his neck, unable to make eye contact with you, "ummmm...." paimon floats over to you and chuckles, whispering, "psst! y/n, i think it's your clothes." "my clothes?" you're very confused, at least until you look down at yourself and realise that your shirt has plastered against your skin, and the raindrops have drenched it so much it's become translucent.

seizing the opportunity to tease your easily flustered boyfriend, you move towards him and ask, "aether, what's wrong?" "ah! um, your shirt..." he still can't look at you for fear of embarrassment and he's clenching his hands into fists to prevent himself from hiding his face with them. "what's up with my shirt?" you intertwine your hands behind you, attempting to look innocent. aether's golden eyes dart to you for a second, "it's... kinda see-through." "is that a problem?" you raise your eyebrow in mock suspicion. "no! i'm just saying," he mutters, the tips of his ears beginning to burn.

"i'm just messing with you," you laugh and take pity on him, "sorry." aether pouts and crosses his arms, "hmph. now can we go home?" "wait, why?" aether swallows down his nervousness and presses a heated kiss against your lips, "i just... don't want anyone else to see you like this." your brain malfunctions upon seeing the mildly possessive side of aether, and now it's his turn to chuckle at your stunned expression. intertwining his hands with yours, aether beams, "let's go!" smiling at how the tables have turned, you nod, "yeah!"
