[🚨Save +Share] Road to the Sahara Desert 🐪 🌵 …………………………………. It has been a few years since I’ve been on the road seeking full fledge adventure while traveling. Something about this particular trip allowed me to tap right back into that energy. I’ve had my fare share of adrenaline rushing activities. From hiking the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, cruising on my motorbike through the deserts of Myanmar, crossing the Serengeti, or copiloting a plane over the Great Barrier Reef, I could go on. They have all been amazing and life changing experiences. However, I had never touched nor been near another famous jewel 💎 of Africa : the Sahara Desert ……………………………….. After doing extensive research on how to navigate to, at the very least, the beginning of the desert, I decided to tour with : @Marrakech-desert-trips I did a 2 night/ 3 day trip, starting from Marrakech to the Sahara Desert 🐪 🌵 🏜️. The sturdy old bridge held a heavy past while the water roared by its side. This trail held such fascinating buildings near and it felt like walking into a piece of the past. "What Lies Beneath" 🧊⁠

These are mock spot-illustrations I did as a class project for #gettingpaidtodraw and the article I worked from, "What Lies Beneath," is from the magazine Afar ( @afarmedia ). It's a fascinating piece about the effect of climate change on Greenland's language, but the magazine is also about travel, so you get tips on how to travel there, when to travel, etc. all while keeping in mind the impact travel has on the world. ⁠

The idea for these little icebergs came from the fact that, scattered throughout this article talking about glaciers and icebergs, are bits of Greenlandic vocab about said ice, snow, and water. I figured, what better spot-illustrations than to "float" those intriguing bits of vocabulary on their own icebergs! Swipe to see the icebergs with and without text. ⁠

I love taking pictures…if you haven’t figured that out by now. 😆 But I always find it hilarious how folks frequently tell me my clothes match the setting or country I visit. Rest assured that 90% of the time it’s completely by accident. 😂 But it’s that’s other 10%…your girl is plotting and planning again! …………………. Well when I visited Jardin Majorelle, I parked myself right in front of the Villa Oasis and asked another tourist to take some shots for me. As I’m getting up to leave, a crowd of other tourists came swarming in. I thought they were trying to get in their own shots of the place, but I was wrong. Lol One of them yells out at me in French to stand right there! A night filled with alcohol music and a performance! Flamenco is the authentic dance within Spain and we got an eyeful of that with the bright colorful dresses to the special moves. "What Lies Beneath: Greenland has a rich vocabulary for ice and snow. But what happens to language when those natural phenomena start to disappear?" ⁠

It's done! This is a mock illustration I did as a class project for #gettingpaidtodraw and the article I worked from, "What Lies Beneath," is from the magazine Afar ( @afarmedia ). It's a fascinating piece about the effect of climate change on Greenland's language, but the magazine is also about travel, so you get tips on how to travel there, when to travel, etc. all while keeping in mind the impact travel has on the world. ⁠

The idea for the piece was to show the receding line of the glaciers as time goes on and create a sort of ghost image laid over the present. It was a challenge, but very fun. I'll be posting some spot illustrations I made for it next week too. ⁠
