Hi, guys. Since I saw a hashtag #AfricansinUkraine I would like to share what the hell is really hapenning.

First if all - we didn't make it. It was our third or fourth attempt to leave Ukraine and we didn't make it. It doesn't matter which skincolour you are - WE ALL ARE STUCK HERE. Queues to boarders are long (WHICH I MEAN THERE'S 4800 CARS ON THE ONE WE STOOD TWO DAYS AGO), trains are not coming and even when they do - not everyone are able to get there (especially when you're a tiny woman)))

As far as I know, any foreigner who is not a citizen of Ukraine should first contact with their embassies so they could take them away. And since train station in Lviv is flooded by foreigners literally sleeping anywhere where's warm and they are still trying to get into trains for woman and children - I suppose embassies don't work.

There's a campaign to make us look as racists BUT BELIEVE ME, IT'S NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO LEAVE A COUNTRY FOR ANYONE. I WAS SLEEPING AT A FUCKING TRAINSTATION IN FROST AT LOCKERS ROOM AT A CARDBOARD AND WE EVEN HAD A TICKETS BUT OUR TRAIN DIDN'T COME. WE HAVEN'T SLEEP WE BARELY ATE WE WE'RE COLD AND WE STILL. DIDN'T. MANAGED. TO GET. ANYWHERE. AND WE ALL WERE WHITE WOMEN. IT DOESN'T. FUCKING. MATTER. STOP SPREADING BULLSHIT RUSSIANS ARE TRYING TO MAKE US LOOK AS MONSTERS WHILE IT'S JUST FUCKING WAR - NOTHING WORKS AS IT SHOULD BE.

oh hell, sorry for caps, I just... oh fuck, I'm so tired. I just want all this to stop. I just want, I don't know, all russian tanks and aircraft to make a huge *boom* and be destroyed so I could return home. or at least to the ruins of it lol. and I want people to stop calling us names. please. it's a shit situation here - but not because ukrainians are racists. yup, we have some racist stuff directed to romes, I should admit it, but not to other folk.

if you're a foreigner and you stuck here - well, we're in the same boat. try to contact with your embassy and PLEASE - don't. Go. To. Trains. For. Women. And. Children. If. You. Are. Not. A. ONE.

It's directed to all man who are trying to run to Poland by trains for WOMEN AND CHILDREN - don't fucking do that. That's low as hell, they need this train more than you, a strong man, do. And I'm talking about all woman and children, no matter their skincolour. If you need to be evacuated you can use these trains, there was one this morning though I'm not sure if it came already. But first of all - contact with your embassy.

Now for all people - stay fucking human, guys. You can do this dy either stop calling people names or helping whose who can't run from war. Stay fucking humans and check your freaking sources.

Some needed coverage of the violence facing black refugees from Ukraine once they escape to a "safe" country like Poland.

This doesn’t even touch on the many oncoming reports from refugees fleeing Ukraine & their relatives about the black men who go missing at the Polish border, or were forced onto buses & taken to detention centers. (They basically were, I gather, swept up into the Polish equivalent of those awful camps the US puts migrant children into, along with POC refugees from “less respectable” wars to be fleeing from than this one.)

! One man has already been released from custody because his home embassy in Africa got involved. !

Yet there’s so many more in this situation, and nobody is talking about this. The fact that this one release happened means that international pressure WORKS. It sucks that if these were refugees from other conflicts, that might not be the case. But given the popularity of the Ukrainian fight for their independence, we watching from afar have some leverage to get these refugees out safely.

Also, it breaks my heart, but the latest report from activists on the ground in Poland is that all the supports - meals, housing, etc - being offered by tons of citizens and organizations in Poland is (to some extent) excluding refugees of color. (This isn’t to say this is always the case. Some reports from those on the ground there say this is due, at least in part, to the fact that refugees of color are pushed to the back of the line and pushed to the outskirts of the refugee camps, which means further exposure to dangerously cold temperatures without even the warming facilities set up for the other refugees. If this is due to policy, calling your MP, senator etc could help a LOT with this and everything else outlined here.

And, in case you didn’t read the article, yes, in addition to all this hell facing POC refugees once they fled a warzone, there was a confirmed neon@zi attack against them in Przemysl and reports of NeoN@zi patrols roaming around trying to find & attack these refugees in various places in Poland.

That’s not to say there aren’t many decent people stepping up to help refugees and NOT excluding those with darker skin, but frankly there is a massive need for as much support as we can possibly get. 0f course, LGBT refugees are also vulnerable.

So far some of the only activists stepping up to help in Poland are black &/or trans, which means dealing with the trauma & threat of violence while trying to help & protect refugees.

Some of the most tireless people who have been helping from the beginning are black refugees who fled a warzone, faced racism whilst getting to safety - one even got sick due to extended cold exposure due to discrimination at the border - yet immediately dedicated themselves to helping others in the same boat. Which means they need others - us - to carry the torch so they can recover from their ordeals.

If you are not in Poland or able to get there - as some beautiful activists groups from Germany & Poland have done (they’re extremely burnt out, some even scared themselves of the neon@zi patrols they encountered while trying to help):

Please call your senator, your local embassy - ANY embassy - your friend with a bunch of followers, your MP, any media people about this.

This really can save so many from unnecessary additional trauma.

You have likely heard about the racist treatment of Africans from many nations being refused entry and blocked from safe passage. Context: It should be noted these scarves did not originate in Ukraine or Russia (some articles say Turkish + Arab influence mixed with Russian manufacturing abilities, some cite Romani peoples, some cite Romanian peoples), but floral scarves like this one are considered part of many people's folk costumes from Scandinavia to the "kokum" [grandmother] scarves worn by native peoples here on Turtle Island. This one is very similar to the kind worn by my ancestors in Sweden. Context: this war is a direct result in part due to the US involvement in installing a puppet government in 2014 with ties to far-right factions and white supremacists. White supremacy is alive and well in the Ukrainian military (and beyond), Chris Hedges and many others have documented this. I am not that educated about all the complexities of the conflict but I know it's always a good idea to materially support the most vulnerable.
