LS ✊🏾💡📺 Repost - Today I saw an article about a lawsuit from African Americans to stop the Benin Bronzes from being sent back. The reasoning was that the Bronzes are part of their heritage and this will prevent them from connecting to their culture. This ideology baffles me. Now I know for a fact this sentiment is not shared by all African Americans. Is this colonial mentality ideology? I can understand the diaspora is home but the Bronzes belong in their rightful home, which is Nigeria. They were stolen to begin with. It’s like if your prized possessions were stolen, you would want them back, right!!! Here’s the thing, if we want to be connected to our heritage and culture, it is important we learn about our history and more importantly travel back and actually see the continent. Instead of pouring time and money into a lawsuit, maybe we need to focus on visiting the motherland and seeing the bronzes in Nigeria and supporting our art back home. Travel to Nigeria and see the beauty and diverse wealth on display. The images are reflections and thoughts on the richness of our culture. I channeled Olokun Orisha deity of the sea and wealth. We are wealthy, our minds are wealthy, our culture is wealthy, our lands are wealthy, our skin is wealthy, our music is wealthy, we need to understand this state of mind and the value it brings. #africanstories #orisha #yoruba #olokun #deity #asiko #wealth #culture #identity (at Beverly Hills, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck60eMPvPuI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
For black history month, I worked on Omazimo books, and created a new section Omazimo Alkebulan Origins.
Omazimo Alkebulan Origins deals with short stories that have deep spiritual roots in the challenges faced by the descendants of the Alkebulan (Afrikan) people. It will also have a series named the Golden series, which will focus on magical items that the forefathers of the descendants used to…

I have no words for how emotional this debut screening was. The obstacles that have to be surmounted for a DEBUT feature film from an African female director to get into COMPETITION at Cannes is hard to put into words. Ramata-Toulaye Sy is only the second black woman to make it into Cannes Competition in the festival’s 76-year history and I can say I witnessed it. Her standing ovation was so well deserved and earned. Watching her receive the applause for her beautiful film #Banelandadama left us all in tears. And the fact that @realnessinstitute alum @s.kebe_bn co-produced it meant my tears couldn’t stop. I am so proud of you Souleymane! Well done to the entire team.
