nora revealing marissa lore is crazy in and of itself but the fact that it's "she used to be a fox striker" is specifically insane info when neil's inner monologue during their one (1) conversation was literally just "damn I wish she would talk about exy at least" LMAOOOOO

"I can give you my number." Marissa said. Neil didnt  remember asking for it at any point that night. "What for?"

Thinking nonstop about how Nora said that Marissa had been a striker but obv now she's a cheerleader. My best guess revolves around how hard it had been for the women on the team due to the misogyny not just of the fans, but of other teammates. She felt like she didn't completely fit in there and she didn't have the support to actually heal as a person. If she was a fox, then it meant that she was from a broken home somehow. Maybe she just wanted to belong to something and her main skill to offer up was that she was athletic. So at first, that was with exy.
I think one of the ways that being a fox is easier for some of the players is that it offers them a way to get out their aggression. Even if they don't seem like particularly violent people, they are under a great deal of stress and many grew up with the idea that the only way to alleviate any of that stress is through violence. For Andrew or Renee who might have gotten used to hurting people or for Matt who learned to manage his emotions through boxing or even for Aaron who doesn't know how to feel comfortable without family members that show their feelings physically.
But that can't be what every person from a tough background needs. It works well for some, but what about people who need gentleness? Who need compassion and to be uplifted? I think the vixens could offer that to people as an alternative to being a fox. And maybe Marissa saw this while playing as a fox, that there was an option where she could remove the parts of her life that were preventing her from healing while still maintaining a support system.
And maybe that's why there are the same number of strikers and backliners, even though, from my personal experience w lacrosse, you run a lot more and a lot harder on an offensive position and therefore would need to swap out more frequently. Maybe they lost one of their strikers to the vixens and it was too hard to recruit a new member in the first place, let alone replace one on top of that.
I know we rag on her a lot for not realizing pretty quickly that Neil's not interested (don't get me wrong, I think that scene is hilarious) but maybe Marissa is trying to reckon with not being a fox anymore. She used to fit there and now she doesn't and she's happier as a vixen, but it's hard to completely remove yourself from something that had saved you. It was easier when there was no contact between the two groups, but now she feels stuck. And here's this new guy who doesn't know how much of a mess she was as a striker, who's cute, and who's single. She just gave it her best shot and it didn't work and now she has to comprehend again that she gave up her connection to the foxes and that's okay.

In case you’ve missed it. Bombs Nora has dropped on AFTG Twitter in the last 48 hours:
- Katelyn’s last name is Mackenzie (and her role is being Aaron’s queen)
- Marissa’s last name is Baker and she used to be a Fox striker (how did this not come up before??)
- she has 1,584 files (84 folders) just filled with details about the characters and the plot of aftg (and she won’t let us see 😔)
- she said she didn’t give exact descriptions of the upperclassmen because they were meant to be mere personalities and the backbone of the fox line (however she did say she adores black Dan & Matt)

reading the aftg daily posts really makes me realize how long/short the time span aftg happened over,
like on one hand, everything in aftg happening over a school year is so fast paced and crazy
but on the other hand, i'm like wait we're only at the part where neil rejects marissa and andrew is gone and they're thinking of the holiday plans, like wdym evermore hasn't happened yet?????

What about an AFTG Stranger Things AU fic????? 🤔
I've thought about this!!! I mentioned it before here.
I think most people who have thought about this see Andrew as Mike and Neil as El, but I ship Byler so, in my version, Neil is Mike and Andrew is Will, because Andrew deserves to be the magical one in more fics (also it just fits better). Also I think I'd age up the characters. I think Andrew and Neil would be highschool freshmen, and Nicky would be the oldest as a Junior.
I have a whole outline written for a Stranger Things aftg au that hopefully I'll get around to actually making into a fic.
But as for characters...
The party would be Neil, Andrew, Matt and Renee. Andrew and Neil have known each other since Kindergarten, then Matt and Renee followed, although they are a bit older ( Renee and Matt are a year older). When Andrew goes missing, they'd find Kevin, who has just escaped Tetsuji and the Lab. Neil lives with Stuart, who adopted him when he was young. Before Neil though, Stuart adopted Katelyn as a baby, so Katelyn and Neil are step cousins (and the same age), but they're as close as siblings (a little distant at first, but as more supernatural stuff happens to them, they grow closer). Andrew, Aaron and Nicky, were all adopted by Abby Winfield. Andrew, Aaron and Nicky are all very close with each other and with Abby, who saved them all from abusive houses. Aaron and Katelyn don't really interact with the party too much, but they'll get to know everyone, and each other, more as everything happens. Nicky works to try to help Abby (who's raising three kids on her own) and he's kind of a loner. Abby kinda goes crazy when Andrew disappears and she goes to Chief Wymack, who she used to know, but they're not super close anymore (for now). During their search, they'd accidentally find out more about Kevin, and they'd find out that he's Keighley's kid (Wymack's old girlfriend). Robin would be Matt's adopted little sister, but she wouldn't really get involved until much later.
Eventually Dan would move to town and immediately Matt would be taken with her. Wymack would also take in Kevin, keeping him safe until he can work something out with the government. A few months later, Nicky would go to work at the mall, then Allison (a year younger than him) comes in as his coworker. When Renee goes to them for help, Allison seems to like her very, very much.
Much, much later, Andrew’s family moves away. After almost a year, Neil goes and visits and meets Erik, Nicky's friend (and maybe, eventually, more) from community college. Erik works at a pizza place and drives them all around in the company van.
Bonus: Betsy, Bee, Ms. Dobson, is a teacher at school and they're all very close with her. At the beginning, Katelyn's friend Marissa goes missing as well. She doesn't make it, but her parents don't know that, so they hire a man named Rhemann to find her. Later on, Renee meets a guy named Jean at a summer camp and brings back a radio to talk with him. He's super smart too.
I think this au would be interesting because the aftg characters are a bit more rough around the edges than the Stranger Things characters. They've already been through traumatizing stuff, so I'd love to play around with how they'd react to these supernatural situations.
Alright, I'm sure you weren't expecting this long of an answer, but I got excited. I definitely have many more ideas for this au though.
Thanks for the ask!

I’m currently reading Heartless for the first time and before I started all I knew was
1) It was written by the amazing Marissa Meyer
2) A lot of people have cried over it
I am on page 338/402 (I had no way of getting a copy so it’s online) and nothing terrible has happened yet but I’m afraid of what that means for the last 20% of the book

Book A to Z
I did this a few years ago, and as I was reading through my old answers, I wanted to do this again since I’ve read many more books since then.
Author you’ve read the most
- It’s a toss up between Jodi Picoult, Cassandra Clare, and Sherrilyn Kenyon. (I’ll read Picoult and Clare until I die, but I think I’ve officially denounced Kenyon. Maybe.)
Best sequel ever
- Still too hard to choose. So many good ones for different reasons
Currently reading
- Wandering Star by Romina Russell, part of the Zodiac saga
Drink of choice while reading
- Water? I don’t really drink anything else
E-reader or physical book?
- As much as I love going to a book store and buying a hard copy, I read mostly ebooks. It’s just way more convenient for me to read on my phone
Fictional character you probably would have actually dated in HS
- Absolutely no one . . . Maybe John Ambrose McClaren
Glad you gave this book a chance
- All for the Game by Nora Sakavic. Dove into that series without REALLY knowing what it was about and ended up REALLY enjoying it
Hidden gem book(s)
- The Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima. Seriously SUCH a good series
Important moment in your reading life
- OG answer: When I read My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult, I was fourteen, and it was the first time I’d read an adult fiction novel. The twist at the end was a lot for my young teen heart to handle. When I finished it, I literally declared I was never going to read another book again, but a day later, I picked up another one of her books and have been obsessed ever since.
Just finished
- Zodiac by Romina Russell
Kind of books you won’t read
- Never had an interest in the classics *shrugs*
Longest book you’ve read
- Still think it’s Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon (836 pages of WHY DID I READ THIS?!?!)
Major book hangover because of …
- Last one was definitely All for the Game
Number of bookcases you own
- One-ish . . . My headboard is a bookcase (and it’s a mess lol)
One book you’ve read multiple times
- I’ve read The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer and The Seven Realms by Cinda Williams Chima at least three times
Preferred place to read
- Toss up between my bed and the toilet tbh (Sorry!)
Quote that inspires you / gives you all the feels from a book you’ve read
- “We accept the love we think we deserve.” - The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Stephen Chbosky
Reading regret
- Chronicles of Nick by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Possibly Twilight?
Series you started and need to finish
- I guess Zodiac (but I need the world and Maggie Stiefvater to continue existing so I can finish the Dreamer Trilogy)
Three of your All-Time favorite books
- I don’t really have favorite books so much as I have favorite series, but the last books that I gave a five-star rating to were:
(1) Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater
(2) Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
(3) Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare
Unapologetic fangirl / fanboy for:
- Gonna have to go with The Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima again. Hands down favorite YA series. I’d buy so much merch if it was available
Very excited for this release more than all the others
- Nothing at the moment
Worst bookish habit
- Probably buying a hard copy thinking I’m gonna read it only to turn around and buy the ebook version later
X marks the spot: start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book
- My bookshelf doesn’t really have any order to it, but the way I counted, it would be Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Your latest book purchase
- ebook: Wandering Star by Romina Russell
- hard copy: Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare (that cover is SOOOO pretty!)
ZzZ-snatcher book: last book that kept you up WAY late
- I’m sad to say reading usually puts me to sleep nowadays, old age and all
