One thing I genuinely think the fandom forgets or underestimates is just how weird Neil is. Like we paint him to be this carismatic, flashy, cocky bad boy, but in reality he's stingy, skittish, balks at anything more personal then his thoughts on Exy and Cannot for the life of him socialize. Like in the Raven King, right after Seth dies, he straight up goes:

"Neil had to patch things up with [Allison] somehow, but he didn't know where to start. He'd never been good at winning people over. Someone like Allison wasn't likely to be his first success. "

Neil's spent his life living on the outskirts of "average" life. Ergo, he's cagey and flighty and so far removed from normal that even among the Foxes he'll always be a little unpredictable and odd. And you know what, good for him; we all deserve an antisocial introverted asshole to raly behind.

I really liked your post about the extra content, whenever I see posts that are like “fuck Nora, she says Andreil never get married or say I love you” or “the extra content says Andrew never heals” always made me like irritated? But I could never articulate why. You worded it so well though. It’s not that I have a problem with people ignoring or not liking the extra content, but I feel like it’s weird that they get genuinely angry or think it’s problematic when 2 characters don’t get married or saying I love you and act like that means their relationship is less meaningful bc of it. What’s so wrong with someone not smiling or not crying?

I genuinely think that Baltimore was the catalyst of Neil and Andrew relationship and if it hadn't happened Andrew would have kept gaslighting himself until Neil pushed for an acknowledgment that this was something more, giving Andrew an excuse to deny his feelings. But Baltimore did happen and Andrew was forced to realize that living without Neil would be worse than the alternative so instead of letting it crash and burn he reconciled with this fact and tried one last time to give himself over to another person, trusting they wouldn't stab him in the back this time. He let Neil in. And I think that just may be one of the bravest things we see a character do in the whole series
