What if Kaigaku-as punishment-has to be the demon guardian of his "nephew" Yoshiteru Agatsuma from birth? And only Yoshiteru can see and hear him?

(very interesting concept!)

-Right off the bat, Yoshiteru knew who Kaigaku was. He read about him in his grandpa Zenitsu's journals.

-Kaigaku tried to play it cool, saying he was an estranged uncle, and when that didn't work, he tried gaslighting him, also to no avail.

-Yoshiteru is an airhead but he's not that dumb, he asked why Kaigaku was there, only to find out that Kaigaku is being punished by his long dead adoptive great great grandfather, the former lightning hashira.

-Kaigaku didn't do much besides give shitty advice to Yoshiteru about things like life, an example would be: "You should steal that snake guy's pretty wife." "Why would I do that?!"

-Kaigaku also took joy out of making Yoshiteru seem insane, given his parents and sister could never see him.

-Though Kaigaku was an ass, he kept his promise and protected Yoshiteru from any harm, ranging from common bullies to criminals on the streets.

✎ KNY post-canon headcanons, demons are back because Aoba’s blue spider lilies didn’t wilt. Spoilers for chapter 205.5

Inspired by @darlingxdarkling post!

» Sumihiko notices the shift in the atmosphere, nights seem longer, people seem more impatient, he’s growing even more tired. He’s always been worn, but a strange melancholy has overtaken even him. He tries not to let it show, thinking it’s growing pains, but it follows him like a curse.

» Tanjiro’s memories are his inheritance. When he sees glimpses of two additional arms grasping the handle of his sword, the Kamados massacred, and a white haired man trying to coax him into abandoning the living, he assumes it's all just recurring nightmares. They stir something in him; he realizes his life is completely devoid of mysticism and fantasy.

» Touko sees them too, and when visiting Kanata she tells him about a dream, disjointed and rushed. Sumihiko finishes it for her.

»“It was so weird, I was crying, and someone was holding me back with this- giant… I don't know what it was, actually! But I was on my back- clawing at the sky, with these bird-like talons, terrified. I’m begging a woman for help, but any- I hear a guys voice go-”

“Little mountain rabbit, why are your ears so long? Why are your eyes so red?” Sumihiko climbs up the back of the couch and stares at her. There’s a secret relief that the dreams may mean something. “...Did you stop crying? Did it stop hurting, Touko-san? When you fell asleep… Did you stop hurting?” (I think Sumihiko would be really polite!)

» Touko is a bit more connected to Nezuko, she feels her emotions vividly as if for the first time.. Her eyes welled up with tears hearing her brother Sumihiko sing her lullaby again. She tries to justify it as allergies, but Yoshiteru knows the truth… A short-lived bout of menstruation induced hysteria.

No one liked that!

» Yoshiteru is spiritual and connected to the Earth. He knew before anyone that something bad was going to happen, he never would have believed it to be demons however. His plan was to marry a woman, and if she’s consistently with child, he may be spared from the world war 3 draft. Win-win.

» Like Zenitsu, his beloved Great Grandfather, Yoshiteru, Yoshi for short, knew when to be serious. He felt the metaphysical crack of Earth that demons crawled up through. He knew- hoped really, his time would come, sooner rather than later.

» When Sumihiko is attacked, he can rely on his inherent athleticism to escape and hide at first, but that’s not enough. it never is. toujurou, his running mate saves him to the best of his abilities. it’s not the clean cut that his ancestors are known for, it’s primal, and anger induced. The demon isn’t killed by him, instead pinned under the rubble until daylight hits. In awe of Toujurou, Sumihiko wishes he would have joined a sport.

» Touko takes the longest to come around to the idea that their dreams are connected. Partially because visions are spiritual nonsense, evidenced by Yoshi believing it immediately. Truthfully, Kanata, with eyes as sharp and precise as a dagger, knew she wanted them to share these thoughts and feelings. If it could have been any of Tanjirou’s descendents, why didn’t he choose the one she’s admittedly closer to? Touko and Sumihiko are now bonded in a way that most people can only try to understand.

» Conflict arises when Touko thinks she can’t rely on the younger, more aloof sumihiko, but at each turn he keeps up with her.

» Touko finds out that they’re related and things become weird around kanata, who still thinks she’s the cutest girl on earth. Hm.

» The Hashira come around at different times after being attacked. It’s muscle memory to them, with unforeseen twists and turns, their bodies just move on their own. When a three eyed, cynical, shadow of a person eats lead, disintegrating before his eyes, Shinagazawa feels like he just met with an old friend. He knows this.

» Ubuyashiki has no idea who to reach out to, but he knows that even in death and rebirth, his noble pillars will find him again.

» Not all pillars are capable of helping once they are made aware of the crisis. Most don’t want to help in the way they did before, relishing an easier life. Muichiro is a frakkin toddler, Gyomei is needed by his kindergartners, their winter play is coming up soon, Tengen’s retirement followed him, and Gilchi hasn’t even gone through puberty. It’s apparent that he can't ask them once again to die for him, that's too much. Time to start from scratch… that kamado boy never got a turn did he?

»That rude artist from the mountains goes to find the Kamados descendents. He’s linked to anyone who’s ever benefited from Lady Tamayo’s concoctions, he can feel them, just enjoying teenage life in Tokyo.

All the Next Gen Fanfics's making Sumihiko as the protagonist, which fair, but I'd like you all to hear me out.

Older sister time—

Touko— I want you to imagine with me Touko as the main character.

Because 1) Tanjiro was the oldest of the siblings and his life had already been too exhausting taking care for all his family so maybe the heavens decided that you know what? Let the kid rest he killed Muzan, let the boy rest.

2) Touko has three siblings to call forth upon and we can actually see all the differences yet similarities that Tanjiro and Touko shared even if Touko had one chapter of screentime. They both didn't believe in demons at first, both where the most dutiful between their siblings, they both cared for all their siblings–albeit Yoshiteru would say otherwise– and they both have an overprotective eldest younger sibling. Haha.

3) It feels more right that Touko, as a descendant of the only demon that managed to turn back into human, that the new threat would be centered around her and even her family. Maybe someone heard about the blue spider lily and decided to create their own but unlike Hashibira, they succeeded in keeping the plant alive long enough for the new demons to start rising, or maybe some historian recovers the medicine that the doctor used to cure Muzan and in the process there are new demons coming to hunt humans down but since they still want the perfect elixir of Inmortality, they gathered information about the past demon Muzan and find about Nezuko.

4) Touko would be really funny as she puts up with this new organization trying to hurt her family and she just needs to beat them up a bit before they go back to their secret hide out — and the demons are like why??? Is she some kind of superhuman??? Is it due to her demon lineage????— no it's cuz she has to keep up with Sumiyoshi, Tojuro and Yoshiteru everytime they try to ditch school. And breaths yeah too.

Bonus of her having to take a job as a kindergarten substitute to pay for Yoshiteru's medical bills after trying to be a hero and take a hit for his little sisters, but it says that she must be trained in some sort of martial arts (weird but that explains the buff teacher) , which she does not practice so she has no choice but to practice at an old dojo that is own by two old gramps that always like to play shoji in their backyard. She gets to meet the little trio that want to be professional swimmers, two cute baby twins that like to sleep together all the time and... yeah just that, and the little brother of that feminine botanist who Sumihiko found crying in the same park or smth like that.

Edit : 5) Guys she wants to be prosecutor, cue all the "Your honor this man is clearly a demon! He can't even touch sunlight!"

The legend of a demon guarding the Zenitsu bloodline fades away as soon as it once spread. It is surprising from those who spent a lifetime and many more hunting their specie down, but how else can it be if Kaigaku vanished the moment they were bound. After all, if Muzan’s death had called for the final burial of all of his kin, the once disciple of Jigoro Kuwajima could not be considered anything more than stone cold dead. He had been crafted by Muzan’s blood after all, and most figured that even if he was to return, for he couldn’t, he wouldn’t be able to do bring any harm along with his rage. None of the demon slayers were willing to hunt a ghost down, to open another book after what was meant to be the final chapter of their history made of blood and tears, and Zenitsu couldn’t blame them.

However, when Nezuko was with child, and their daughter after her, when Zenitsu’s hair turned to grey and his eyes became a blur, Zenitsu awoke his past.

He took his granddaughter away one day as she returned from the village with tears in her eyes because the other children mocked her grandmother who once lived as a demon and sat her on the edge of the stairs leading to his former mentor’s home, the one he had inherited from him, and told her all about the story of the mighty demon who could wield thunder, the lone child he once foolishly called brother, and the one who would come and protect his blood, were they to ever face danger.

Zenitsu hadn’t meant to share such white lie, but he figured if Kaigaku’s story ended with Muzan’s death, he could at least use it to cheer his granddaughter up. That letting her think a kind and powerful demon could come to her aid and sow unrest to the ones who wronged her could not truly hurt her.

And it worked, for a time. His granddaughter would join her hands over burning incense on days she felt resentful, demanding retribution. Her mother once caught her and asked what this was all about and laughed once she was told but still, she sat next to her child and prayed to the lonely demon for their health and home’s protection.

It became a tradition. Each child born into the Zenitsu household would be entrusted with the thrilling tale of the mighty demon guarding their home, and Zenitsu had the chance to bear witness to his great-grandson’s early years before he left them all behind in the bed he once shared with his late wife.

On the day of his burial, after the ceremony was thoroughly held and many did travel to pay their last respects, once his ashes joined Jigoro’s in the family grave and all had left to comfort each other’s grief, a friend old as a lifetime came to stand above his grave.

No words were exchanged, and no gift was left, but it is said that on this very night Zenitsu’s once-retired nichirin sword disappeared.

It is also said that from this day onward, bolts of lightning could be seen dancing above the family’s home, daring all living souls to try and rush them to their demise, if only they could bear to pay the price.
