It's been two months and five days since I've started Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Today, I finished the very last episode. (I know I'm making this more dramatic than it is, but idc)
So, it's been a lot. So many good, great things, but also a lot of weird, disturbing things. Characters I loved all the way through (Hunter, Piper, Davis, Sousa, every Koenig (I think)); Characters I almost loved all the way through, except for a few episodes where they made some choices I didn't agree with or so (Fitz, Simmons, Bobbi, Coulson, Daisy, May, Deke, Enoch); Characters about whom I wouldn't say I loved them but I still liked them very much (Mack, YoYo, Trip, Mace, Flint); Characters who weren't exactly the good guys but still were somewhat likable to some extent (Ward, Radcliffe, Cal, Gordon, Jiaying, Sunil Bakshi, Robbie, Kora), and of course Characters who were written to be hated (The Malicks, Garrett, Whitehall, Lucy Bauer, Ellen Nadeer, Ivanov, Kassius, the Hales, Izel, Sybil) and everyone who I don't know in which category to put, or what to name their category.
I am so glad, that the phase in season five where I couldn't stand Daisy, was over as soon as season six started. I was surprised by how MUCH I loved her in season seven.
Season six was definitely my least favorite (and of what I've read I'm not the only one with that opinion). But I can't say it enough, how much I loved the parts in space of Piper, Davis, Daisy, and Jemma (and later only Daisy and Jemma) searching for Fitz and Enoch. I can't think of one single moment right now from that space part, that I didn't like. But I really hated Izel and this whole shrike thing, and Sarge and his team, so I was really glad when season seven started.
Because season seven started off just absolutely great! I already said that I loved their clothes. Sending Jemma in as Peggy Carter in the 50s was perfection. Daisy saying she already has a sister to save, her name is Jemma Simmons. May falling through the ceiling, punching Sybil and saying "The Cavalry". Fitzsimmons naming their daughter after a star. Piper's wish from Jemma being getting Davis back. The team meeting up (at least) once a year to catch up and not losing each other. All of that is perfection.
There is so much more I want to write about, but first, I can't put everything into words (right now), and second, this post would be way too long.
I am so glad that I started Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and I'm even more glad that I continued watching even though the first five episodes or so didn't convince me at all, and at first I only stayed because of the characters.
I am thankful for everyone involved, but especially those who decided that these wonderful actors would get the role they got, because honestly? I couldn't have asked for a cast that was more fitting.
I will start re-watch soon (at least in parts), because friends of mine started watching, but I have yet to convince them that it gets better than it currently is (they are in episode four).

I honestly wish we got to see what transpired in the year between S5 and S6, with Daisy, Jemma, Piper and Davis in space. I would’ve loved to see them adventure through the galaxy and go to all those crazy planets/places on their mission to find Fitz. It would’ve been so neat to get to see all the different planets and people they encountered, and have some mini subplots about it and such, as well as possibly work through Jemma’s grief, and other big feelings that weren’t discussed in the insanity that was S5 (eg. maybe Daisy’s stance on Fitz after his psychic split and her working through that to forgive him- as the Fitz they inevitably get back would have no memory of it and such, as well as literally everything else). I’m genuinely sad we’ll never get that. It could’ve been so cool.

This one’s for the .2% of you who both loved Agents of Shield and Ted Lasso:
Davis lives, motherfuckers, and his new name is Zava.

Finished the final chapter of what started as a short fic to work through writer's block, a series of character studies on the different Agents of Shield resurrections. It was probably a given I was going to overthink the last one though, given it was about Davis.
I know some people don't like that they brought back Coulson at all, even less throwing Davis in at the last minute. I don't really mind, but I would really like a bit more exploration into the implications. Like, Davis is a somewhat rounded character, with a family. (Not a first name though, and I decided not to give him one partially because I thought it might be confusing but mostly because I'm lazy and bad at coming up with names.) Bringing him back couldn't have been a simple thing. How did he feel about it? How did integrating him back into the world work?
But then, I've found the question of humanity of robots and similar edge cases interesting at least since watching Battlestar Galactica years ago. Or even earlier, since Blindsight by Peter Watts sort of broke my brain as a kid.
Anyway, this chapter doesn't do much more than poke at some of the questions the show didn't have time to address. Maybe I'll poke around more in that space someday.

I can't believe that Piper started as a minor minor character who was kinda just there for May's development as a teacher and now she's only a minor character who has her own storyline, personality, friendships etc. I just think thats really cool.
Agents of Shield really is the series for giving minor characters a story and I love that :)

Best thing about Agents of Shield season 6 was the addition of the bullying lesbian (piper) and her straight bestie (davis)

kind of random but the entire lmd! coulson thing rubbed me the wrong way. Made worse when Davis was brought back as a favor to Piper, since those actually dead people did not consent to it at all.
Like Coulson is literally brought back from the dead, despite specifically accepting his death because he DIDN’T want to go through the whole ‘being back to life thing’ again, and for what? to help them out on a mission that no longer has anything to do with him since he’s...y’know, DEAD??
And let’s be honest, there is no possible way Simmons was truly capable of giving LMD Coulson all his memories back. Even if she had his brain scans from before and stuff, she’ll be missing things from s5. It’s why he couldn’t remember the letter he wrote to Daisy. LMD! Coulson was out here with gaps in his memories, with the knowledge that he’s actually dead and buried six feet under, and the knowledge that his team would do such a thing and it’s not fair.
He literally has to be ‘shut down’ and ‘charged’ which is horrifying and you can see the stress and how frustrated he is in 7x09.
Add on his relationship with May, and things are ten times more complicated.
Also, I get being upset that your ship didn’t really ed up together, but it just makes no sense to have May and Coulson end any differently? Like, how is she supposed to spend her days with a robot who’s like the guy she loves who she actually had to bury?
Their relationship was never going to work out the second he died and they both clearly knew that.
It’s why she was so dismissive and distant throughout the season and even after their few conversations together where they got to speak honestly, a happy ending wasn’t in store for them.
He’s painfully aware of the fact that he isn’t actually human. That he might feel like Coulson but he’s not.
And she knows it too. She has actual empath powers.
I get why the writers brought him back, since it was the final season and all, but his ending and arc could’e definitely been handled better.  Him sticking around and seeing the world alone is actually extremely depressing given all of this.
It’s kind of horrifying to think about and this leads me to Davis again.
Piper requested a robot version of her friend be made? before even speaking to Davis’ wife? And now this LMD is out there while the real Davis is dead?
Is that how grief will work from now on? Anytime someone dies it’s like ‘no worries! Let’s make an LMD!”? I understand the show is now over and so all of these are decisions the writers don’t ever actually need to deal with later on, but still. The ending was certainly better than many endings out there, but it could've used some work.

I don't know, I liked episode three of season six. It was so wonderfully different from all the episodes before, so much to laugh about, craziness. Fitz and Enoch as a duo alone is iconic, but then additionally Jemma and Daisy being high or whatever was even better. And of course Davis and Piper. (I hope there's more to come of this team within the team - with Jemma, Daisy, Davis, and Piper)
I don't know if that's actually an unpopular opinion, or if people tend to say the same.

Stilling sobbing over the fact that Piper could’ve asked for ANYTHING in S7 after helping Fitzsimmons, and the one thing she asked for was Davis back 🥺🥺
I love those chaotic best friends so very MUCH

Agent Davis deserved a better end.
This brings about my personal headcanon, that Piper sends some of her SHIELD salary to his wife and kid. She acts as an aunt and tells stories of their husband and father in space, even giving his space pen to the child as an heirloom, however stupid it may seem.
