“Why are we doing this again?” He yelled from across the room.
“Because it is our neighborhood duty to participate.” She called back.
“And who’s brilliant idea was that?”
“Yours!”
“WAS I DRUNK WHEN I SUGGESTED THAT?”
She looked up with doe eyes shaking her head and said, “No. You were your normal amount of drunk when you came and suggested it.”
“Oh.” He repiled looking surprised for a moment and turned back on track, “Well I’m not going.”
As he turned on his heels, she yelled, “They are serving free drinks and well made sandwiches.”
He stopped his tracks, amused by the latest news and began walking backwards, “What I meant to say was I’m not going without a quick shower to fresh up.”
She smiled and winked at the camera with a shrug. She crossed her eyes, “How about we did a little dance at the talent show tonight as well?”
He yelled from that bathroom, “Only if you wear that sassy little number that make your eyes pop and fit you in all the right places!”
“Now you sound like yourself.”
“Wouldn’t be if I wasn’t!”
“And it’s for the children.”
“We already got one, who needs more?”
“Niky!”
“I love you too!”
~~~~
At the town meeting, Nikolai was sitting down near the round table stuffing his face with a donut half listening to what Ji-Hoon saying as Marlene muttered his ear to share the food.
Herb was talking about the Jesters new playground in the front yard and how they should all invest in their lawns looking just as good.
That’s when Vision walked in standing all awkward and said, “I’ll just stay here and be as quiet as a church mouse.”
Nikolai yelped pulling up a chair, “Nonsense man, come sit! More the merrier. Maybe you can make the place more interesting. Uh, no offense Norm.”
He muttered, “None taken.”
Marlene snorted at the comment, handing Vision a box of doughnuts in which Nikolai stole from his grasp.
Tumblr media
She rolled her eyes instead passing around sandwiches and said, “You’ll love them. My wife made ‘em this morning.”
Vision kindly denied, “Oh no thank you. I don’t eat food.”
“Uh what?”
“..uhh what I meant to say is that I don’t eat food inbetween meals, but at meal time. I’m a regular eating machine.”
“Well more for-“ Ji-Hoon exclaimed about to put them a little to-go box for later but Marlene slapped his hand away, “-ow!”
“No more! Then you won’t be able to fit into your pants later.” Marlene respones scowled at him then turning back to Vision, “Would you like a stick of gum instead?”
Norm was about to say ‘is gum even food’ but one glare from Marlene shut the man up. Vision shrugged saying it couldn’t hurt and took a stick of gum from Herb which made him act kinda funny. They all assumed it was the flavor must’ve been different to his taste buds.
Nikolai and Herb smirked saying it would be great to have a game of horseshoe out back. Vision nodded excited which had Marlene and the others holding back their laughter.
~~~
The ladies however had an interest time at Dottie’s house. Amelia arrived somewhat easily carrying Milo in her arms as the the puppy playing patty cake with Geraldine. She thanked the women for keeping her company as they waited for the others. The girl said it was her pleasure to do so, she wasn’t sure why she came in the first place because she thought it would be more fun. Melissa arrived just in time, saying that her and her wife were having some exact fun that morning.
Tumblr media
Both girls laughed.
Dottie looked around counting head and raised an eyebrow, “Uh Amelia right?”
“Hm?” She asked.
“Uh I don’t remember saying dogs could come.”
Melissa smirks as she added, “And I don’t remember you saying that florals were on the list today. I guess we’re both disappointed.”
Dottie looks down at her loud floral dress, flowers rounding her tables set up and the floral curtains. She groaned and walked away as if she was fuming. Melissa smirked to herself as Geraldine and Amelia giggled, they liked florals but this was overkill. Agnes, Wanda and the other ladies finally joined in. Her puppy was being treated well by the staff members there, which made her smile.
Dottie was discussing the incident and plans for today, reminded them that this whole show was for the children. In which the other ladies repeated in unison.
“Did I walk into a cult or something...” Marlene muttered to herself as Amelia snorted.
Tumblr media
That earned a little smile from her other friends. Agnes was just drinking meanwhile Wanda was biting down on a cookie that she forgot what was happening.
She removed the cookie from her mouth to clap and repeat along, “For the children.”
Afterwards some ladies went to get ready for the show, but Amelia, Melissa and Wanda stayed behind to help clean up with Dottie.
“Thank you for helping us clean up today, we feel so lucky.” Wanda said with a smile, picking up plates.
“You are.” Dottie responded with a fake ass smile.
Melissa muttered, “I should’ve ran out when I had the chance.”
“You and me both.” Added Amelia with a smile.
The four of them wanted to correct the situation, trying to avoid any confusion and become friendly. Everything was going fine. Melissa was fixing fix up a few napkins hearing the girls speak when the radio started to turn into an oddly specific voice asking ‘Can you hear me, Wanda? Who’s doing this to you girls?’
Dottie got concerned asking who they are, in pure curiosity and shock the glass in her hand shattered as the radio returned back to normal. But she was bleeding a daring red as Amelia rushed over with some napkins to clear that mess up. Dottie was looking between both girls in confusion and slight embarrassment then calmly smiling like a perfectly good housewife should. Wanda stood there with no words coming out of her mouth as Melissa tried to defuse the situation.
“How do you know this much?” Dottie asked.
Amelia smiled, “Well, when your married for so long and had mishaps..you know when to stay calm..”
“Good. I’ll take care of this.”
“But you sure?”
“Do I look like I’m kidding?”
Dottie just walked away leaving the girls and Wanda to themselves wondering how uptight and strange the blonde could be. Amelia rushed over to see is the redhead was okay as Wanda nodded saying she was fine, having to get ready for the show.
———-
The show at the park was in full swing, as couples were in their fun acts. Marlene and her wife, Melissa, did a little balancing act for the whole crowd. Everyone clapped and cheered for their performance.
Tumblr media
Ji-Hoon was hosting the show talent show dressed in his trademark suit, as Amelia and Nikolai were up next doing their best dance routine yet. The two dance Jailhouse Rock on the stage, doing swings, kicks and twirls. Their footwork was excellent in their eyes, having the whole stage be their dance floor.
They finished off the dance with Nikolai dipping Amelia’s head with a classic grin and wink to the audience. She giggled and smiled across the crowd as they clapped loving their performance.
It didn’t matter if they won, they could all tell the couple had way too much fun. But winning would be nice of course.
The two raced off the stage watching Wanda and Vision getting ready. Amelia noticed that Vision looked like he was drunk, as she muttered if Nikolai had of them drink during their meeting. He just put a finger to his lips chuckled, when in reality he had no idea what happened to Vision.
But they got their answer once Wanda and Vision were performing on stage. It was honestly hilarious on their own magic act how silly Vision was out of the loop meanwhile Wanda was playfully showcasing their tricks.
Some of the crowd was confused, others were laughing meanwhile the whole time everyone was entertained piecing together the magic up.
Suddenly Vision walked off the stage and yelled, “Stand up, Shebert! Say hello to the crowd.”
Herbert stood up awkwardly, “Actually it’s Herbert..”
“Pipe down Sherbie and pick a card!”
Vision was fumbling around with his words, instructing Herbert to do as told. Afterward the tall blonde shuffled the cards then flipping one out with a confident expression.
“Is this your card?”
“Uh no.”
“I beg to differ.”
“No.”
“R-really?”
He threw the card over his shoulder and went to pick another one, as Hebert kept telling him, ‘no’. Vision made a grumping noise flipping across the card rapidly in front of the other man’s face repeatedly asking the same question.
All the cards went flying around the park until Vision held up the last one in frustration asking, “Is this your card?”
Herbert smiled, “It is!”
“It is what?!”
“It’s my card.”
Vision scoffed exclaiming, “Well pardon me, Herbert, have it back!” As he shoved the card onto his chest scrambling away and onto the stage saying he did the trick right. The crowd clapped and laughed.
Vision went on and on with tricks running around the stage like a maniac trying to get a hold of himself but failing. Marlene snorted as Melissa laughed. Poor Wanda had to deal with all of her husband’s mishap, covering it up with fake magic to go ahead his real magic act. Soon enough it was over.
Everyone clapped and cheered at their performance, as Ji-Hoon and Dottie called up all the acts to the stage for hand out awards. Everyone got a little ribbons or small trophies, but the real winner was Wanda and Vision.
All that mattered is that everyone had fun!
——————
Marlene took Melissa on a walk along the park afterwards then home for a special little treat of their own. All Amelia knew that Melissa was blushing after something her wife said in her ear before they left, Nikolai snorted loudly knowing those two were gonna have fun. He decided to take his wife home where he was greeted by their growing puppy Milo was leaping into his lap the moment he sat down on the couch.
“Sometimes I think you love that little mutt more than me.” Amelia joked putting their small trophy on the coffee table before taking a seat beside them.
Nikolai was kissing Milo’s face who was licking and curling up against him ignoring his wife’s jokes as he smirked. That was tall tale sign that she was right about that. He then pressed a kiss to her face as she tried to scurry away.
“You got dog slobber on you!” She yelled giggling.
“Really?! Can you remove it?” He shouted jokingly, picking up Milo who licked her cheeks as well.
“Ahh! You boys will be the death of me!”
“Take it back!”
“No!”
Nikolai and Milo were attacking Amelia with kisses and doggie breath, as laughter and yelling echoed the room.
The two heard a small rumbling sound coming from outside the house, pausing to look outside the window to see thunder and lightning coming. Nikolai’s eyebrows furrowed for a moment sensing something in the air, as Amelia stayed curious onto the sudden weather conditions.
Which meant a short stormy night for them, but a cozy one. As the pair looked at one around their respective features gleamed in the only bright lights of the living room.
The room temperature dropped then rising again for a moment as a wave of shifting sparkles washed over their home. The streets started to brighten up in brighter shades as well.
Every single house was turning into actual color. It felt completely natural and refreshing to the eyes of everyone in town.
~~~~
Tumblr media
Instead of black and white, they were all in color now.
Bonds were made | Agents of SHIELD Fanfic
Tumblr media
Pairing: Amelia Parker & Grant Ward
Timeline: Pre-Avengers (2012), Pre-Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013-2020)
Tumblr media
Summary: Sometimes the person you see so much respect and kindness for, isn’t the one who you expect it to be. Doesn’t matter how different you may seem, it’s this challenge to themselves and you are going through the process together.
Characters mentioned: Phil Coulson, Melinda May, Natasha Romanoff, Mockingbird, and others
Setting: During SHIELD Academy
—————
Her heart was racing. Pumping. Hunched over her knees as she squeezed her eyes shut. It was late. The sun was coming down. Close to the dead of night. Her phone was buzzing as she let out a deep breath and glared at the guy in front of her.
He chuckled, wearing hid dark clothes and shook his head watching her. Glancing over at the street light, choking on the heat as the world spins around as they’re frozen on the top of the street.
“What you looking at, Ward?” She yelled, as her glares softened as she tossed a water bottle and he lead her to sit down on the bench nearby.
“Nothing.” He repiled, placing a gentle hand on her back and gave her a certain amount of time to rest.
“I can’t do this. I give up. Can we go home? Please?”
“No, sweetheart. This is what it’s all about. You need to build up your own strength and stamina.”
“Now it just feels like I’m not getting everywhere. I’m done.”
“You just started! What are you gonna do when the real mission comes, huh?”
She gave him an odd look and scoffed chuckling, “Stand behind a set of computers and code my way across the hardware. Sitting!”
“Ames, you said it yourself last week. You want to be versatile! Be a field agent and get out there on the action. I’ve seen it before, you can run and give a good punch to defend yourself.” He replied with an certified look.
“That was different, Grant! I was trying to escape stores, get away from cops and stuff.”
“No, it’s the same thing! You gotta—no, we gotta make this a challenge.”
“More challenging than it is?”
“Yes! You gotta race me, y-you wanna race me? Make it a bet!”
“You’re serious? Your not kidding me, right? Cause you like to cheat sometimes to get me riled up!”
“That’s my point! I gotta find your center to get you moving and want to keep going. I think I know exactly what makes you go for the moment! You do too.”
“…I see your point! Make the connection, search for what they want and stand your ground. That’s how I get it.”
Grant just grinned at her words. He only spent a short few weeks with Amelia but she was something else, she always wanted understand the assignment and plays with the ball she’s given. Something he didn’t have to teach her, she just knows.
Just like him.
It surprised him how young she was but how she tended to keep herself grounded. It like playing a game with her, making sense of what she meant and wants. There was a difference she carried in the way she wanted to things and the balance she tried to keep.
However he always needs to keep her up float, it was his self defense and self doubt she carried but hid behind very well.
He respected it, a lot.
Amelia grinning ear to ear. It was this sweetness she carried, this childlike attitude towards others, wanting to see them in a different light. She always knew she saw something different in Ward. The determination, the guilt of challenging himself to do better for someone can give a chance and the away he treated others.
The self doubt, keeping everything leveled and an confidence she saw in him.
It amazes her how he balanced it all so young.
He carried this look on his face like he gave everyone the cold shoulder, but he really just wanted to see what they’re made of. It’s hard for him to let loose and not be so serious with her, due to way he were so different. But it’s this challenge Amelia had with him, to keep Grant bouncing around and smile where his shoulders dropped in relief, keep him in a position to breathe.
She respected him, so much. She seen the tapes of him in action and honestly she would trust Grant Ward with her life.
She love t—
“Amelia?” He asked with a smile, snapping her out of her thoughts.
“Hm?” She repiled with a little smile.
“Do you trust me enough, to race against me?”
“Well you do trust me enough to get the job done?”
His smile grew with a nod, “Yeah, I do.”
“Good. I do too.” She replied this time with a bigger smile.
~~~~
Do you trust me?
Little did they know that one line, would be the thing that chained the relationship they would have.
The bond that would make and break them..
~~~~
The bet, or more like the challenge, Grant made to race down 2–3 blocks and make a left onto a few streets as they would reach the step to the museum.
The Metropolitan Museum Of Art to be exact.
Amelia found it to be sounding easy enough, jumping in pace to hype herself up as she popped in her earbuds. Grant found it funny at first and sorta cute that she needed music to get the job done, but he couldn’t blame her. Music alway make everything better as he decided to join on the fun and throw on his headphones.
There a timer on both phones for 15 minutes tops.
Once the countdown started, Amelia speeded off a second half quicker than Grant who smirked at her pace. The two started out going down the same direction across the blocks, becoming careful for people who were walking around and watching traffic.
Tumblr media
It was going well. Hearts racing, beats pumping in their ears as Amelia glanced at timer and tried following Grant. He was more athletic than her, so it made it tricky for her to keep up.
“Keep up slow poke!” Grant yelled, flip to start pacing back and sending her a small wave.
His real test was to see her determination and agility to keep up with the task, like running towards a con artist for example. In his eyes, she wasn’t doing bad so far as he turned back to run the correct way.
She sighed taking a breath and grunted, “Ohh—not fair!”
She on the other hand was testing his strategy a bit, since Amelia thought of taking a short cut past a few people and across the street, since sometime you had to take a little detour to get somewhere.
So she whistled at him and pacing over to the around a group of people, sending way at Ward. He rolled his eyes as she then race off.
———
But Amelia Parker being well..Amelia Parker. She didn’t think her idea would thoroughly lead her towards an narrow end. There were buildings, fire escapes, people walking from different backgrounds, alleyways, dogs, and vehicles passing by her.
“Shit..” She muttered, whined as she started wondering where Ward went and added, “..stupid Parker..”
The girl decided to climb up a fire escape nearby an apartment complex close to a few store, such as H&M and Rainbow, hoping she can get a better look. It kinda stunk due to the dumpsters close by.
She took to the top of one of the buildings, feeling a little fuzzy and groans at the garbage.
However once she over the smell, using her phone Amelia zoned in and saw the somewhat crowded streets followed by, the lovely Metropolitan Museum so close. Her location wasn’t so far away, so she glad.
She even saw Grant running before noticing she wasn’t behind him. He looked confused for a moment, almost terrified he lost her amongst the audience of people and started playing back his latest memory as he run off.
Amelia on the other hand shrugged, texting Grant she was on her way sooner rather later. It was looking pretty good until Amelia started to get down the stairs to fire escape she saw it. Both guy, around the 18 or so, jogging up to the alleyway floor started to lock eyes with her.
She tried getting down as quick as possible and jump over to the dumpsters for higher level. But she was too late as they were speeding up towards, about to jump down when they started shaking the latter.
The girl paced herself, taking a breathing trying to fight them off using whatever was nearby to hit them as she jumped down the latter.
She was new to this whole thing, fighting off more than one person and finding their weak spots. But still Amelia tried her best, being pushed and tossed onto the groundwork by one of them guys.
“Guys, come on! C-can we talk about this? Huh?” She asked, douching a hit and grabbed a glass bottle to use as a weapon.
But before one of the guys could swing tightly over her face, he was pulled back against the top of his head and whacked hard stumbling backwards. There was one holding Amelia by the side, letting her go and tossing the girl onto the ground.
She stumbles, standing up against the dumpster and gagged at the smell balancing herself then swinging the glass bottle across his guys head. She hit him so hard he was knocked out cold.
“Ames?!” Yelled the rough voice of her partner of the race.
Tumblr media
She turned over to face him, as she connected the dots that it was him who whacked the first guy in the head so hard. Grant just finished fighting him off and grunted, racing over to her helping her stand.
“H-hey, hey, look at me. You okay?” He asked, worry in his eyes as he gently takes her face in his hand searching for damage, “Where did the bastards hurt you?”
“Heheh you really fought him for me, huh?” She replies, with a dry laugh giving him a half smile as she looked at his face.
All Amelia saw were the small bruises, snatches and shiner that could form anytime soon on his face. His hoodie fell off as his chest was still huffing. She never saw him worried before, but then again she just got attacked in an alley.
Grant didn’t realized he was taking her face in his hand and search for damages in just a concerned way. He saw the small bruises on her arms. As well as tiny snatches on her face.
Tumblr media
“Damn it, Ames!” He grunted, huffing at her humorous laugh and half smile, “You’re hurt. Where does it hurt?”
“I’m fine now and don’t be concerned or blame yourself. It’s part of..training, getting hurt and standing up right?” She replied, running her thumb over his jaw to notice the bruise there.
“You took a detour and got attacked in the process. Of course, I’m concerned!Are you sure you’re okay?”
“I’m okay! You saved me, didn’t you?”
“I’m serious.”
“So am i.”
“Always a humorous moment with you, isn’t there?”
“Mhm!”
“Ames, I’m not kidding!”
“I’m fine, your hurt too. A pretty strong attack to the face..a-are you okay?”
“I’ve been hurt far more worse than that. So I’m alright. Coulson’s gonna kill us..”
“He doesn’t have to find out, unless we don’t say anything..”
“At least we’re not bleeding to death, so that’s a plus..”
“I hate you, a lot.”
“Aw, i love you too.”
She huffed pushing the hair out of her face and smirked. He sighed deeply shaking his head, seeing the look in her eyes and returned the smirk.
“No, don’t. You are not going continue the race against me.” He told her with a certain look, smiling softly.
“Come on, we might as well get the job done. Do you trust me to keep going with your challenge?” She asked him with a small grin.
“Serious? Okay I’ll bite. Do you trust me when i say we’re gonna regret this in the morning?”
“Possibly. But um, are we still itching to get it done..i hope..”
“God. One last lap to the museum, Ames. I mean it.”
“Yes! Then off to 7-11 for pizza and extra water bottles…and um, thank you.”
“For what?”
“Having my back.”
~~~~
He smiled at that, hearing those words.
Parker was a wordsmith with a smile that can make or break something inside someone.
He understood that. It’s something that could help or hurt a person, make you want to watch your step.
Almost like Coulson.
Damn.
She returned the same smile, watching his face considering her words.
Ward was a engineer with his attitude that can sending you spiraling down a wormhole of questions and a smile that can lead you down a certain path.
She knew that. It was this skill level and an great balancing act with a mind that help or hurt you if you mess up.
As close to Agent May or even Romanoff.
Shit.
~~~~
And once again they were off.
Racing against one another, keeping up the pace watching the other person’s six and matching sure they’re alright after the attack.
It was more like jogging.
Sharing tiny smiles. Grant rolled his eyes at her silly little grin as Amelia scoffed at his cheeky wink he would give in return.
Reaching the street across to the location. He stood behind her watching over to see anyone was nearby and if there was space to make the jump up the steps.
A few steps up to the top of the stairs, kneeling to take a breath and nodding as they ran gently.
Tumblr media
Grant reach up the steps first, he smile holding out his hand for her to take. Amelia giggled softly, taking his hand gently as she was pulled into his embrace.
He was honestly proud of her and so was she.
“What you giggling at?” He asked with a smile, his arms wrapped around her shoulder as he looked down at the girl in question.
“You listened and kept going.” She replied with a smile, leaning into his embrace as she looked up at him.
“Your proud?”
“Yeah. You’re a good guy, Ward.”
“You make me feel like I’m a good guy. I’m proud of you. You passed my test.”
“Test?”
“Yeah, i wanted to see your determination and I made sure of it. You kept going even if i wasn’t on the same page about it”
“Of course, i took a page out of your book. To keep going and stop when you can’t anymore. And you passed mine, I think.”
“Hmm, i guess so. You’re gonna be a good agent some day.”
“As good as you or better?”
“Let’s not jump to conclusions, Parker.”
He walked away from her, nodding for her to follow him as he held out an hand.
She raised an eyebrow and added, “You didn’t answer my question!”
“I didn’t need to!” He responded, waving his hand waiting for her.
“You’re unbelievable.”
“Isn’t that my line?”
“Shut up.”
“Make me.”
“Not happening.”
“Good answer.”
Amelia paced up, taking his hand gently and walked with him down the path. Grant nodded, taking the lead glancing down at her every once in a while.
Tumblr media
As they walked down the street, he notice her smile and tiny bruises that started to take shape.
But she wasn’t angry about it nor upset with him about leading the way. It was her choice and she made a mistake, learning from it.
He knew why she is the way, she is and admired her for it. Hell, he thanked his timing and the position he was in to have her in his life.
Knowing that Amelia Parker would make a great deal of decisions one day and in result make people shine or question their tactics.
And he hopes he can be there to see it.
What happened today and the damaged that cause him to end up hurt—both of them to be hurt—it wasn’t his fault per say. He knew the risk and she knew the way he would think about it.
She noticed the smile on his face, making her own grow. She never expected to find someone like Grant Ward in her life and thanked the whole situation she was in for it.
He made a mistake not watching his back, but he will learn as the time goes and the keystone that follows along that path.
She admired that part of him, since Ward isn’t one to to make small mistakes very often and it shows her that it’s part of the job.
Knowing that Ward will have to become an leader one day, having to help a group during highly trained mission of some kind and make decisions that might cost his life or save it.
And something tells her that she might be there to see it.
___
Little did they know that those hopes and suspensions will become true.
Leading different paths within the same field and bumping into one another weather they like it or not.
But that’s an tale for another day…
Marvel OC #1
Aaron Johnson
Fandom: Marvel/Agents of SHIELD
Story: X Marks The Spot (Click here for the link to the story!)
Pronouns: He/Him
Short Bio: A boy born in New Orleans to a gunrunner, then sold off to HYDRA to try keep tensions between his father and them clear, Aaron has only ever known chaos and fighting. After being saved by SHIELD, he's drawn into a much larger and weirder world. He's given a chance to do some good in a life filled with bad. And maybe he'll even gain some friends and family along the way...
Personality: Aaron will have his witty comments, sarcasm being the main one. He's someone who is scared of love, but once you're in his heart, he'll fight tooth and nail for you. Any mistake he makes, he's on his own arse, in a constant state of atonement. He takes a while to warm up to most people. He's always ready for a fight, sometimes even accidentally starting them with his words. He wants a normal life for his friends and a happy ending for them but doesn't believe he'll get one nor deserves one himself.
Relationships with OG Team:
Daisy and Aaron Johnson
Daisy is Aaron's closest connection on the team. Daisy met him in the pilot, both being interrogated by Coulson. She saw parts of herself within Aaron, and so took him under her wing. She's always in his corner, fighting for him in any way she can. She's the older sister this time, she's sworn to herself to do a good job. To be a guiding light for him. She even gifts him her last name, to have him know he'll always have a home with her. In turn, he backs her up, no matter what. Best friends/Sibling Figures.
Jemma Simmons and Aaron Johnson
Aaron's second closest bond. Jemma has always been patient with Aaron. Allowing him to do things on his own time, and respecting his boundaries with needles and some parts of his history. She's always appalled by how Aaron was treated in life, and so does all she can to make him feel loved on this team, even being the first one to call him a friend. Jemma is the more rational and logical older sister. Making sure he doesn't drink too much, and always able to spot the signs of him relapsing. In turn, Aaron is more gentle with Jemma. More forgiving. Close Friends/Sibling Figures
Leopold Fitz and Aaron Johnson
While Fitz and Aaron don't have too many scenes together on their own, they have a solid friendship. While dealing with all the crazy shit they have to go through as a team, Aaron and Fitz ground each other. They talk about media they like, and other simple things to remind themselves of the real world. They tease each other. Ward is the one who calls out their brotherly nature, and neither denies it. Friends/Brother Figures.
Melinda May and Aaron Johnson
When May first met Aaron, despite her trying not to allow for connections, she was protective over Aaron. She comforted him when they both went with Skye to get Mike in the pilot. She hates her maternal side at first, but finds herself leaning into it the more the series progresses. She's got a sharp eye when it comes to him, especially with how he words things. She understands what he's trying to say, even when others don't. In 4a, she even goes behind SHIELD's back to make contact with Aaron, despite what he's done and his running away, to make sure he's at least alive and to try help him find some peace. She understands his self loathing and issues of trusting the self, so she does yoga with him sometimes. She's on a similar path that he's on, one of healing. He's one of her kids, and like hell is someone going to hurt one of her kids. Friends/Mother-Son Bond.
Phil Coulson and Aaron Johnson
Coulson was the first person Aaron ever spoke to in the pilot. Coulson had a professional look and sound to him, but he lets his guard down with Skye and Aaron, they are youngins after all. After bringing Aaron onboard his team, he tries to give Aaron a normal-ish life; comic books, late-night chats, and whatever else he can fit into the time on the BUS. As the series progresses, Coulson and Aaron talk to each other in more of a colleague sense, but anyone a mile away can see the parental love Coulson has for Aaron. He's highly protective of him. He's constantly holding a hand for Aaron to take to come back from his darkness. Aaron is loyal as hell to Coulson, even if he questions him as a leader. Friends/Father-Son Bond
Rebecca Sitwell and Aaron Johnson (another OC)
Rebecca and Aaron meet in "The Hub" episode. At first, they don't take too kindly to each other, but find a respect for one another as the mission progresses. After that, their bond improves, even into a friendship. They have a deep understanding with each other. Aaron shows Rebecca a world outside of SHIELD, and Rebecca keeps Aaron on the straight and narrow. They're good for each other. Even in their darkest moment within Season Three, they still care for each other. Rebecca even breaking the rules for Aaron. Close Friends.
Phil Coulson x Female!Inhuman!Original Character: For Everything There Is a Season [Ch. 1]
Tumblr media
Summary: "For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven." -- Ezekiel 3:1
Rating/Warnings: All (Inhumans references; X-Men references; Agents of SHIELD canon; Agents of SHIELD season 4 (I think); meet cute; SHIELD Academy; not canon compliant)
Requester: Shakespeare girl on Quotev.
Tag List: @imaginesfire
Request: "Phil meets her when he's recruiting at the Shield academy. He actually interviews her. While there there is an attack on the academy and a couple of the inhumans are taken. Phil while trying to help some of the kids escape is tazered (how ironic) and grabbed as they think he's also inhuman."
Notes: You might recognize the OC in this story as one from a previous Phil one shot I've written. She's received a major overhaul since then, so Kate's creator asked me to write another story about her. They've been a longtime follower, so of course I agreed.
Hooooo boy! I think this is the longest it's ever taken me to finish a request. This is actually a very, very small portion of the request, as what was given to me was enough to create a multi-chaptered story. Since I'm not really in the business of doing that as a request, I asked the requester to pick one scene. They picked the first one, which is listed above--with the caveat that it ended happily instead.
I really struggled with this one, guys. I lost count of how many times I've started over from absolute scratch. I even jumped forward in the story to try writing one of the later scenes. Every time I did, it just didn't feel organic coming without any of the previous scenes. And yet, writing the first scene with nothing more going on other than the meeting just kept coming across as pointless when I ended it happily! I started the story earlier. I started it later. Still it felt wrong, wrong, wrong.
I'm not sure that I really succeeded in writing what I set out to write. It did take me more words than I thought, however, and I figured if I just wrote the cliffhanger ending, then if the requester wanted (and is very patient), I could always go back and write other scenes from their request at a later time. I hope that they derive some enjoyment out of this, even if I am dissatisfied with the end product. At this point, I'm just glad to get it out of the way!
Chapter 1: A Time to Rend
The days that changed Kate Kane's life always seemed to her to come barreling at her right out of nowhere. For instance, there was the day she became an Inhuman. Her phone alarm went off; all she had to do was get to work on time; one tainted tablet of fish oil later, and bam! Look where she had landed herself: SHIELD Academy, a grown adult struggling to get through lessons all over again. If anyone ought to have seen the next earth-shattering event rushing full tilt toward her, it should have been the academy staff. But they didn't know. No one did, least of all Kate herself.
Her morning began much the same as her others at the academy; that is to say, miserably. She must have had bad dreams again, because she opened her eyes to find sunlight streaming through the window when her clock still read 3:30 a.m. Up too late to choke down breakfast, Kate had hurriedly got dressed, jammed an unwrapped breakfast bar in her mouth, ran her fingers through her hair, tossed her Captain America-themed backpack over her shoulder—and found a note on her door directly her to a meeting in the Director's office...
...that had started an hour before Kate even woke up.
Kate's long brown hair flew behind her as she sprinted up the hallway. The shield charm attached to her backpack's zipper swung wildly at her side. All the lights above her head flicked on and off, crackling and snapping as her anxiety hit dangerous peaks. She could imagine only one reason for the Director of the entire school asking to see her when everyone else would be in class. Her heart quailed at the thought. Sure, she hated it at SHIELD Academy. But where else could she go? Who else would take her in? Why—
Why were all of the other Inhuman students milling around the waiting room leading to the Director's office as well?
Kate skidded to a stop, but not fast enough to avoid attracting attention. The lights in this room flickered, too, and every single other eye in the room snapped over to her. She didn't doubt that their phones had turned off upon her arrival on top of everything else.
Kate gulped, smiled weakly, and held up one hand. "Hey, guys."
None of the group of ten or so greeted her in return.
"So...uh...what are we all in for?"
One by one, her fellows returned to their screens.
"Ms. Kane?"
An unfamiliar mild voice came from the Director's office itself. Kate threw one last desperate look around the group of her fellow Inhumans, but not one of them so much as glanced at her. Well, what had she expected? Even if any of them liked her, they couldn't do much to rescue her from a thorough dressing down from a SHIELD superior. She swallowed hard before heading for the open door.
"Thank you for being here, Miss Kane."
As soon as these words were spoken, the door snapped shut. Kate inhaled sharply as the well-decorated office around her turned pitch-dark.
"Electrical manipulation," the same voice from before said, in the same mild tone to boot.
Whoever it belonged to, they must have been standing very near to Kate. She couldn't see them at all with the thick curtains pulled over the windows. The stranger didn't sound threatening, though, or like he'd been hired to forcibly remove her from the premises. A wave of relief through her body accompanied a return of the overhead lights.
"Could still use some work," said the only person in the room with her. "But the promise is certainly there."
He sat on the corner of the Director's desk, his hands clasped in front of him. Although the man wore the suit common to the upper echelons of SHIELD, nothing else about him looked common to SHIELD. Kate would have pegged him for someone's accountant, or perhaps the newest literature instructor, before she ever guessed he worked as a secret agent. In fact, the longer she stared at him, the more out of place he looked. A quick look over her shoulder revealed no one else lurking about the office with them.
Phil held out a hand when she returned her attention to him. "I'm Phil Coulson. It's good to meet you."
Now Kate stared some more. Hand shaking? Normal introductions? Who was this man? Several seconds passed before she remembered that, in return for such basic kindness, he probably expected the bare minimum of polite normalcy in return.
"Kate," she said as she grasped the hand for a quarter of a second, then added, "Kane."
"I'm aware. Why don't you take a seat, Ms. Kane?"
He did not offer her a chance to decline. Before she could so much as hedge, he had walked around the cluttered desk, sat down in the Director's plush chair, and interlaced his fingers in front of him. Then Phil looked up at her without saying another word.
What other options did she have? She could hardly flee the confines of the office. This Phil would know exactly where to find her as long as she stayed on the campus, and trying to leave the academy grounds would only get anyone they sent after her hurt. Kate pulled off her backpack before dumping it on the ground and plopping herself into the hard-backed seat in front of the desk.
"Thank you," said Phil. "By the way, I like your zipper charm."
Such a bizarre compliment did not merit a response. The longer she stayed in this room with Phil, the stronger the buzzing in her stomach became. Kate felt that if she did not escape soon she might plunge the entire building into the Dark Ages for the rest of the afternoon. "What is this all about, sir?"
"Straight to the point. I appreciate that."
"I'm not trying to be rude. I just—I have to get to class. I'm in enough trouble as it without missing things, so..."
"I'll make sure to let your instructor know you were with me. This won't take long. You might even get back in time for the end of class. I just hoped to get to know you a little bit this morning."
Of all the strange things Phil had done that morning, suggesting anyone human might want to know her personally was the strangest of all. Kate tried to force a laugh at the obvious joke. The noise came out as more of a whimper. "And why is that, sir?"
"I run my own covert SHIELD team. What with the recent explosion in Inhuman numbers, we're looking to recruit."
Kate's second sardonic sounded a little more like the genuine article.
"You don't believe me?" Phil asked.
 "No offense, sir, but no one wants Inhumans saving the planet. We're not exactly Captain America."
"No one is." Was it Kate's imagination, or had Phil's tone suddenly turned a little bit reverent? When he went on, he didn't sound any different than he had when she'd entered the room. "My team is entirely pro-Inhuman. The fact that a lot of people aren't is precisely why we want to bring a few in."
"Well, even if that is the case, I can assure you your team doesn't want me."
"And why is that?"
He intended to make her say it out loud, didn't he? No matter how gentle and accountant-like Phil made himself out to be, Kate had worked one thing out during her stay at SHIELD Academy: SHIELD didn't hire idiots. No way had he missed the way everyone just outside the office avoided her. The Director could not have failed to give Phil an entire file on her many screwups. And she refused to believe he'd missed the sudden power outage from before either.
"I'm not very good at doing anything Inhuman," she said at last. "The rest of the Inhumans don't want anything to do with me either. If your team really wants someone to go spread good will and peace for us, the last person for the job is me."
"Really? It sounds to me as though you'd be a perfect fit."
"What, do you guys have a habit of taking in unwanted strays?"
"Something like that."
Kate opened her mouth to argue, but once again found herself completely unable to do so. It wasn't because Phil hadn't given her an opening, however. This time, she simply found herself speechless. He wore the sweetest smile on his face—the sweetest smile that she had seen directed at her in a long, long time. When he looked at her like that, she could almost believe that someone out there had faith in her to turn her life around.
And then he was right back to business: "It's not an immediate position. As you saw earlier, I have other interviews to conduct. I also expect all of the potential candidates to take several psyche evaluations before they're pulled from the academy. But—"
A tremendous crashing noise sounded from somewhere behind Kate. The ground shook. A few bits of dust and cobwebs fell from the high corners of the room.
Phil snapped his mouth shut. Kate's eyes went wide.
And then the screaming started. Pounding feet. Slamming doors. The unmistakable crackling of Mordis's energy beams. The acrid odor of Sammy melting a plastic chair.
Kate broke eye contact first to turn toward the door. "What the—"
"Stay put."
Phil appeared beside the door a moment later. As he moved closer to it, the commotion quieted. No more banging. No more stampeding. Just voices growing softer and softer.
"That was some training exercise," Kate said weakly. "Last week, they flooded a room to see how each of us reacted to water. But that was the pool room, so I don't think they broke anything. It's weird that they'd spring one us on a recruitment day, though. Do you think..."
She trailed away as she realized that he wasn't listening. The people outside had fallen silent, too.
Phil's eyes were riveted to the doorknob as he lifted his right hand. The motion drew Kate's attention to the dark object he gripped—and she felt the blood drain tangibly from her face. Her question of why he'd drawn his gun got stuck in her throat. No matter what she did, she couldn't seem to force the words out of her mouth. Her anxiety ratcheted ever upward; the lights above their heads flickered on and off so rapidly that they sounded like they were sizzling.
That Phil noticed. "Kate—"
The moment he turned toward her, the door slammed open, catching Phil in the back. He pitched forward. Still only twisted in his direction from the chair he'd directed her into, Kate let out a squeal. Was it of worry? Of fear? She didn't know. Outside the room she could see nothing but dust, debris, and the towering shadowy figure who had just sent Phil sprawling on the carpet. Whoever they were, they were dressed all in black, including what looked like a gas mask strapped to their face.
"Pack up anyone in here as well," the figure said.
Kate thought they must have been using a device to distort their voice, though she didn't have time to consider that. No sooner had the person commanded it than did two smaller figures dressed in the same uniform step around their leader and into the office. Phil stirred at last, but he didn't get as far as lifting his firearm a second time before the new arrivals moved forward, heedless of what they trampled underneath their thick boots. He cried out in pain.
For some reason or another, that sound above all the others drove Kate to her feet. "You leave him alone!"
"Kate, don't—"
One of their assailants jostled Phil roughly as they lifted him entirely off the ground by the back of his shirt collar. Kate gasped. No longer flickering unsteadily, every light in the room pulsed. She hardly noticed. The fists she lifted in front of her quivered. Meanwhile, several of the heavy pens behind her lifted several inches off the desk surface.
"Ah," the big one said. "We've lucked out. Here's another piece of refuse for us to take out."
"Excuse me?" said Kate.
"Grab her, too. And be quick about it. The truck's already loaded with rest of them, and backup's on the way."
The big one spun around. Kate knew they'd disappear in a matter of moments. Gritting her teeth, she flung her pens forward with all her mental might.  Each whistled through the air with a mighty crackle of electricity following in their wake. They neared their target—and fell to the floor with one swing of the person's enormous hand.
"What did I say? Filth. Five minutes. That's all you have."
The big one stomped off and disappeared into the haze of debris. Kate watched them go until something near her crunched. Stiffening, she looked up just in time to see one of the two remaining assailants lunging for her. She quickly kicked her vacated chair into their path. They went down like a sack of bricks. Another hand on her shoulder doused Kate's relief the second it arose.
"Five minutes?" said the second person in a voice just as distorted as their leader's. "This one won't even last two."
Maybe they were right. Already the first attacker had got to their feet and yanked Kate's arms behind her. She knew as well as anyone that she couldn't fight her way out of level three in the Academy's Danger Room. What good would she be in a real fight?
Then she saw Phil's prone body laying motionless by the door. Her breath hitched before she heard a moan from that direction. So he wasn't dead, but he was hurt. He was likely to be more hurt if these two dragged him off to the aforementioned truck.
Something in her hardened at that thought. Whatever these crazy people thought, Phil was just a regular guy—a regular guy that was so kind he had gotten hurt trying to protect her, the useless freak always one mistake away from being expelled from the one place that would have her. She swallowed. Then she forced every ounce of power inside her into her hands until electricity blasted from them in two enormous, fist-spanning sparks.
The two assaulters exclaimed. Kate didn't care whether it was in pain or surprise; she just cared that they released her at the same time. She leaped away.
Five minutes. That was all she had to last. Less than that now. Surely the rest of the Academy had reinforcements on the way. No one could ignore this kind of attack. If she just kept Phil safe that long, then someone better than her would show up to finish things up.
"Wrangle her! Now!"
Here they came. Kate never had been top in her class during battle lessons, even when the Inhumans were forbidden to use their power. She would try, though. For Phil's sake, she would try.
Kate darted between the two and back toward the desk. She pulled down anything and everything behind her just as often with her hands as with the electricity surging through her every molecule. Her skin blazed with an intensity just as hot as the lights in the office. All she could think of was keeping the other two away from Phil for as long as possible.
Suddenly, the room plunged into darkness again. But it wasn't the room. It was Kate's own eyesight. Her head spun. Goosebumps raised across her once-scorching arms and legs.
She had done what she had thought to be impossible. She had burned herself out.
Still she whirled. Still she tossed. Still she fought with all her might. The whole room looked like a roller rink in the nineties.
Another large hand seized her arm once more. Now Kate had not the strength to pull free, let alone to tase either of her opponents off of her. Though she tried, her remaining feeble shock waves seemed to affect them not at all.
"Five minutes on the dot. Right again," said one of the people in black.
"Leave...leave him alone," Kate panted. She could hardly keep her head up, but she didn't want to take her eyes off of Phil. "He's not..."
Her tongue stuck to the roof of her mouth. Was this an ability that one of them had? Or had she pushed herself far enough to die? They needed to know! They had to know they could leave Phil behind! But Kate simply couldn't get her mouth to move. With the last vestiges of her strength, she staggered toward Phil. She couldn't get far with the two heavy attackers latched to each of her arms. If she could just warn him, just wake him up, even just keep these two busy for one minute more, then maybe...
She never got to him. Before she could take a second step, she felt herself hoisted into the air. A stinging a pain in the back of her neck. A rush of cold through her veins.
Then...nothing.
History/Background:
Indy was found at a HYDRA base (about early/mid Season 2) by SHIELD agents; Agent Morse, Agent May, Agent Coulson, Agent Johnson, and Agent Hunter. According to her and HYDRA data, she had been there ever since she was 2-3 yrs old or as long as she could remember, as a lab rat for HYDRA’s experiments (they did not find any additional information on her, her family or where she was from). The agents who found her brought her back to SHIELD HQ, and after about six months of rehabilitation and therapy (and learning basic words/sign language), she joined SHIELD as a field agent.
The only clue they had to who she was was a scraggly teddy bear with a faded name written on it's foot- Daisy could make out the name Indy, so that's what they called her.
It was quickly discovered after her rescue that she had supernatural abilites- the ability to alter and manipulate her body heat to extreme temperatures, and even project it out of her own body. She has since learned to control her abilities and use them in combat situations.
Relationships: Daisy Johnson (big sister figure), Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez (close friend), Jemma Simmons (close friend), Melinda May, Leopold “Fitz” Fitz, Phil Coulson, Bobbi Morse, Alphonzo “Mack” Mackenzie (friends/adoptive family), Unknown biological family (deceased)
Aliases: SHIELD (Field Operative), Inhuman (by HYDRA experimentation), Firefly (Call Sign/Alias)
Additional Notes/Facts:
loves astronomy and Superman comics
Daisy was the first person to encourage her and train her while being gentle and not pushing her beyond her limits, and since Indy reminds Daisy so much of herself, they have an unbreakable sister bond
So Daisy became her main Supervising Officer and unofficial big sister
they spend most of their free time together, and if one is having a rough night they go stay in the other’s quarters and the two have a sleepover
Daisy will ruffle Indy’s hair and get a whined “Daisyyyy” out of Indy as she bats her hand away
they playfully tease and bicker like cats and like sisters before long and are inseparable
Daisy is, according to Mack and Coulson, a “bad influence” on Indy
they casually call each other bitch or asshole a lot (much to Coulson’s dismay), Daisy also calls her “little shit” or “little hellspawn” and Indy calls her “big asshole”
Indy loves stealing Daisy’s clothes even tho she’s half Daisy’s size, especially jackets and beanies. Daisy pretends that it’s annoying but she secretly loves it
“whoa whoa whoa- where did you learn those kinds of words? No no no, you will watch your goddamn fucking lang- Ohhhh…” ~Daisy to Indy at some point
Indy becomes a fan of punk rock music and fashion because of Daisy’s influence
has a deep love for Chinese food, especially egg rolls and dumplings
she and Daisy leave takeout boxes all over the base/Zephyr and it drives the others up the wall
She also loves pizza with pepperoni peppers olives bacon and onions
Hi y’all, my name is Kyra West. I am 16 y/o agent of SHIELD (long story). I’ve got the proper tragic backstory for my profession, but that’s not something to get into in an introduction. So for now, I’ll just tell you a little about my favorite people.
Caspian Morse is one of my best friends, and also an agent of SHIELD. You might have heard of his mother, Bobbi Morse. He’s an inhuman, with the ability to manipulate mirrors. It’s a lot more complicated and cool than it sounds, I promise. He’s also my boyfriend, but we’re best friends first.
Katiya Hunter is my other best friend, and Cas’s twin sister. While he was raised by their mom, Kat grew up in England with their father, Lance Hunter. She’s an inhuman too, and going through terragenesis is actually what prompted them coming to live at SHEILD. She basically has telekinesis.
Bobbi Morse is my godmother, and one of the best agents in history. I might be a little bit biased though. She’s been teaching the three of us self defense and weapons since we came to SHIELD three years ago. She and Hunter have been back together since just after the twins met, and are way more functional than anyone expected.
Maria Hill is my aunt. In case it wasn’t already blatantly obvious, I’m a SHIELD kid through and through, and I grew up around all the SHIELD legends. She and her husband Jim have been my legal guardians since my parents died.
As for the rest of the team, they’re my family. Some of them have titles, some of them don’t, but they’re my family just the same. I’ve got more family than what I mentioned here, but I don’t want to overwhelm you just yet. I’m sure I’ll be talking about them plenty in the days to come.
Ex in the flesh | Pre-Marvel Phase 1
Tumblr media
Uncle-Nephew: Jason Underwood & Tony Stark
Ex-romantic pairing: Jason Underwood x Sophia Trace
Summary: There are some faces you don’t expect to run into, in the middle of the day and sometimes it’s a feels a odd memory loss in the water.
Timeline: Pre-Iron Man (2008)
Character mentioned: Godson Rei Stark, Tony Stark, Pepper Potts, Maria Stark, Peggy Carter, Maria Winter and etc.
Note: Jason’s alias here is Thomas Logan Mitchell
——
It was early one afternoon when it happened. Their home in Malibu staying high on the rise as the windows were open bringing in the cold September breeze. Tony was in his lab as always tinkering with his toys as Pepper was given the afternoon to do some stuff for herself.
She definitely deserved it.
The household was mess. Goodness gracious how did they like that happen? Well that answer was the little menace, aka Anakin Skywalker Jr, Rei Stark. He was only 6 years old. But he was a little cocky dramatic tornado of a child.
The boy had so much energy it bewildered anyone who walked by him. He acted like he owned the whole house, technically he did due to it being his property one day, but that’s not the point—he didn’t care to do much. Always sending a tiny glare and a real cheeky grin to whoever he sees unfit to be in his area. He can could sense either a person’s attitude and godly annoyance from a mile away.
Thankfully he had people who he actually liked in his life, so it easier to find a comfortable ground with the kid.
Jason was in the kitchen sipping a glass of water and trying to figure out what to make for lunch.
He was thinking fries and chicken nuggets would work for his godson. Until he realized they were out of animal chicken nuggets and Rei favored those one than the normal nuggets. He couldn’t blame him, he liked those one too.
“Bubba?” Jason called out, hoping he would take the normal ones today, “Come here for a second!”
The pitter patter of sandals can be heard, the brunette came to stop and yelled in return, “What?!”
“You want chicken nuggets for lunch?”
“Yes. With fries. Extra crispy fries!”
“Haha. I got good news and bad news for ya, bubba. We’re all out of the animal nuggets.”
“Noooo! I want the animals ones.”
“We don’t have them, bubba.”
“Please. Just go to the store, pops!”
“Rei. It’s late and it seems like Pepper forgot to buy them.”
“No it’s not. It’s early. Mommy says the store is not far away.”
“Fine. We will go the store.”
“WE?! I don’t want to go papa..”
“Yes, we. Now come on, I’ll let you get a toy from vending machine and—”
The second those words hit Rei’s ears he went racing to the front door to remove his sandals and change into his street clothes until he realized he needed some help with his jacket. His godfather rolled his eyes, fixing the kid’s jean jacket and tied his shoelaces correctly. He told JARVIS to let Tony know they’re heading out before he left with the boy.
————
He let Rei choose which color car they would ride in. Black one with the gold accent seemed to be his favorite. Jason rolled his eyes and nodded as he strapped him into his car seat. One the way to the store, they played some more. A mix of pop, hip hop and rock.
In resulted into a jamming session on they’re way there.
It had Jason smile seeing Rei enjoying himself. He tends to forget about the fact that he’s just a kid sometimes due to how smart he tends to be and cleverness he holds onto. He sometimes fights with Tony to share more time with his son and let him just be a kid, reminding how on he single-handedly help Maria raise his nephew more often than not.
And he’s glad he wins that argument. Because the more time Tony spends with Rei the better.
Rei Stark may be a little distant from other kids, wanting to play alone at times but when he’s in his element—which is building things and just be a creative kid in general—he shines like a diamond. It’s incredible to witness how his mind tinkers in ways, he doesn’t even understand.
Tumblr media
Once they reached the store, it was a different type of thing.
The aisles were nicely decorated with eye catching items from cereal to pretzels. Along with the section of fruits was nearby the pastries.
He first let Rei explore. Let his sweet tooth get a look at the delicious offer and his favorite fruits. He got to pick out some to take home. It was good, he seemed like he was enjoying himself. He told his godson to stay close meanwhile he looked at the cereal options before they grabbed the animal chicken nuggets.
But Jason should’ve known better because the second he turned his face to reach for Captain Crunch cereal, Rei scurried off to other end of the aisle to find god knows what! His eyesight zipped through the hall looking for him until he heard it.
“You’re not the boss of me lady!”
Yup. There he was at the corner of the aisle holding up bag of tootsies rolls and sending a tiny glare to the women, who was trying to reason with him. It sounded like the women was asking where the heck his parents were. Jason slide down, placing a hand on the kid’s brown fluffy hair and racing his fingers crossed to calm him softly.
“Bubba, why did you leave me standing?” He asked, looking down at him.
“I saw one lady holding a bag of tootsies rolls and I wanted one.” Rei told him like it was obvious.
“You had to ask me first before going off into the store.”
“I wasn’t that far!”
“You left me hanging bud.”
Then the women spoke with a smile and light scoff, “Hanging, huh? Sounds about right. No offense but the kid was just messing around.”
“Look sweetie, thank you for standing here and wondering about his parents. I can it from here.” Jason replies, raising his head to finally registering the woman but stopped surely.
Both adults stood there quickly examining one another faces in the store lights. The bright warm lights brought up every the women’s face. From her deem eyes to makeup nice reaching her lips. Her bouncing pushed back curls were set in place by a low ponytail as she held close a worn out bomber jacket that hung over a burgundy shirt.
Out of the people he would’ve expected to see today. She wasn’t one of them. He would’ve loved to be caught up in the aisles by an old friend or that lovely short lived ex girlfriend from years ago.
But not her! Anyone but the blind date he agreed on going to get out of the house and stop the protests from the ladies in his life to actually have a social life. It was one date or something like that, in which he cut short rather quickly.
Nonetheless here stood that ex-something of his.
And honestly he sorta regretted it. He was a jerk and he knows it.
“Wow, didn’t expect to see you here today.” Said the brunette with a small smile, decided to stay civil.
“Yeah well, it was an emergency to stock up on food.” Jason replied with a nod, a tiny smile curled his face.
“I can see that, nothing to worry about. You look…good.”
“I am good, Trace. Real good.”
Rei watched both adults thinking, he recognized her voice from a phone call and spoke up, “Wait who are you? You uh sound familiar.”
“I’m Sophia. An..old friend of your pal here—” He replied with a smile looking down at the kid, finding calmer down.
“He’s not my pal. He’s my pops, lady.”
“Pops?”
“Duhhh!”
Sophie paused trying to register what she heard thinking, ‘Mitchell has a kid?! He moved on fast!’ and sighed. The boy looked nothing like him, but the glint of wanting to be somewhere else like at home and not in public, was absolutely similar to the man. Other than that, he looked more like he possibly resembled the mother than him.
Strong enough genes.
“He’s your pops? Wow Mitchell, uh congrats.” Sophie said with a smile, feeling a little bitter wishing it wasn’t his son.
“Relax, Trace!” Jason repiled noticing the story on her face as he picked up Rei deciding to fix his glasses and teased, “I’m not with the mother. So you still have another shot with this.”
“You’re hilarious. That train left the station. It’s fine, you look content and that’s actually kinda cute.”
“What? Life a little miserable once I left?”
“If I’m correct, you didn’t exactly return my calls. And no, it’s not miserable. I’m better off without looking for a someone else.”
“Aww, you’ve got a lot better things to do than worry about me, i bet..”
“Yeah, but you wouldn’t be so bad either.”
The way Jason and Sophie smiled at that last comment, a hint of blush carried onto both cheeks.
Tumblr media
Rei joked in his signature tone, “Aw, a compliment and a smile. Can we go please?”
“Yeah, Bubba. You wanna go grab the cart for me?” He asked, with a little smile only for him.
The boy simply nodded as he was put down, scurrying away toward the shopping cart not without sending another glare to the women. Once both of them were sure the kid was gone, they dropped the awkward moments to send a gentle glares deeply to one another.
Almost concerned glares if you asked anyone who can sense the unfinished tension between them.
“Where the heck have you been?” Sophie asked, leaning in with light smirk attached to her glare.
“Oh please. Last time I check sweetheart, you’re didn’t even come straight to me for answers.” Jason added with a match look.
“Really? That’s your play? You’re the one leaves behind a trail off unwanted promises for a date! I called, I texted and asked around. Nothing.”
“Did it ever occur to you that maybe we weren’t even able to get anywhere, with our whatever we had? You were way out of my league in the first place and sat high on your little cloud that you needed to be brought down a peg.”
“Ohhh funny you say that, cause you needed a little push to realized your not the most interesting man in the room or did you forget that? Our first date, you decided to take it as a favor for a friend but afterwards you liked it! You liked it a lot!”
“I did not! I was being nice, a gentleman with you because you seemed pretty alright in my books.”
“Pretty alright?”
“Yeah you’re half bad.”
“So you liked it?”
“I would say I didn’t hate it.”
Both grinned at that last comment, as a smirked laced their faces. They found each other rather attractive after everything.
The real reason, Jason didn’t follow up on that date was because he felt stupid, insecure and didn’t want to let himself be heartbroken again after so many times. He was just defending himself with an act.
That he cut it off too early but he also knew it wasn’t gonna last in the first place.
He was a complete idiot, a jerk and terrified of starting something new. Especially with the life he lives and the things he had done, he feels like he doesn’t deserve it. None of it.
It was a gut wrenching guilt he carried that made him feel that way, like it’s better to be alone sometimes.
Most importantly he didn’t want to bring anyone into this life either. But he should’ve gone about it a different way than he did, he regretted how he ended it. He wants a second chance.
A small push.
“You left sorta me hanging around for a bit afterward. It actually bothered me.” She admitted with a sigh, dropping the act.
He sighed and nodded, “And you left me questioning, you know that? Uh look, I’m not good at this..”
“Yeah well me either, I got busy. Real busy with my classes and students.”
“I can tell. The eye bags underneath your eyes. You should rest, I mean it.”
“I know I should rest..and I’m sorry too for not taking the initiative to come to you for answers…I wasn’t exactly ready for it..”
“Look, it was something I wasn’t ready for either..I was busy too. I’m sorry, I was complete jerk and I apologize for my inconvenience..and just my attitude towards this point..”
“But you did it. We both did.”
“Yeah I know, I don’t know why we did it but we did it. By all accounts, I think I owe you a second date..”
“Oh definitely you do haha! Yeah and it was—”
Both were cut off by Rei’s racing toward them almost slammed the wheels of the shopping cart against Sophie’s shopping cart. He did it on purpose, Jason was sure of it and he sigh, kinda not proud of him for that.
Yeah, Rei was trying to save him from having this conversation to try and explain himself to Sophie. He’s always thankful for the saves from the kid, but he wished his godson didn’t save him this time.
However he was definitely getting dino nuggets today for at least coming with him to the store.
Rei yanked his godfather’s arm, dragging him down the aisle as Jason shrugged sending ‘I apologize for him’ look to Sophie. She just shook his head chuckling and walked away. They pair turned around waving at each other as they separated into different aisles.
The rest of the trip went somewhat smoothly getting everything they needed from the store and more. The ride home however was quiet, with the radio station blasting music and the bit of traffic up ahead. It was mostly small talk made in the car anyways.
Until Rei said something that confused the blonde.
“She was pretty.” Said the boy, playing with his action figure that he left behind earlier.
“Who was?” Jason responded, looking at the rear view mirror.
“The lady. She was pretty.”
“The same lady you were being a little rude too? Which wasn’t nice by the way, I should’ve corrected you on that.”
“I’m sorry..I will be nicer. But yeah that lady! I was just testing if she can handle us.”
“Wait what? You were testing if she could tolerate your rudeness? Rei.”
“Sorry! And yeah, she passed. Did you dump her? Who set you up?”
———
Jason chuckled at his questions like he was being interrogated by the kid. To be honest, he knew he would ask him eventually. He was a smart kid and he could tell something was up even if he admitted it or not.
He sighed and answered him, “First, it was your mother who set us up. I did it was a favor when you little, she wanted me to head out of the house and have a night off to myself. It was a blind date.”
“Ohhhhh! It was mommy?! Wow what did you do, that she set her up with you?! She is way too pretty!” Rei exclaimed with a surprised look.
“Ouch!” Jason joked, “If you like her so much why don’t you date her?”
“Nahhh!” Rei replies giving him a grossed out, goofy smile.
“But to answer your second question, yes. I did dump her. I should’ve been nicer when I did.”
“Daddy says that’s kinda a dick move, JJ! You dumping her is mean.”
“Rei watch your language! Don’t say that word again, alright?”
“…okay. Sorry I won’t say it again, but that was kinda mean though! Mommy wanted you to date her! Why stop?”
“Bubba, you don’t get it. You’re too young.”
“Tell me! Please!”
Tumblr media
He sighed knowing he always tries to tell him everything depending on what it is. Even if it meant dating. Rei was wondering and it was something innocent that every kid wants to know. They want to be part of conversation, even if they don’t understand it all.
Jason took a deep breath and told him, “Alright, alright I will tell you. Your uncle JJ is a dummy, okay? A bit dummy for not going along for more dates. She was nice, but I thought she was out of my league and way too good for me. I was thinking I wasn’t good enough.”
“And? So what? You were scared?” Rei asked like it was the most obvious thing in the world, but his tone had confusion.
“Yeah I was scared, and it’s a normal feeling to be scared. I lived and loved a lot of people, buddy. I didn’t know if I could go try it out again.”
“I think you should try it out. She got good taste in food, I saw she got Oreo cookies in her shopping cart and gummies too!”
He chuckled, “You only care about food, do you?”
“Yup! Food is always welcome in my mind.” Added the boy with a shrug.
——
Jason then asked something that was more of a honest question for his godson. Something that added to why he refused to date. His life and family he created. It was a hard way to put into words what he meant but he still tried.
So he asked, “Do you think she would be good enough to be with us for a while? Good for us, i guess? You know, handle our lives?…My life? I don’t want to bring her into this crazy world of ours..”
Rei thought for a second, he snorted at his way of wording everything and how he tried to water down what he meant.
His godfather watched him for a moment before he made a turn into another lane. Rei had a cute little thinking face where his nose would wrinkle a little like his father, Tony, but his eyes would narrow down like his mother, Maria. It was something Pepper and Peggy pointed out recently every-time they saw him think of something.
“I think she’s okay, for now. She is pretty, looks smart I think and uh, she is friends with mommy.” Rei said with a shrugged, trying to piece together his thoughts.
“Plus she got some attitude like you..” Jason added with a smile.
“I do not have attitude!”
“Yes you do, bubba.”
“Whatever.”
“Okay bubba. Whatever you say, you want to watch a movie when we get home?”
His eyes light up hearing that, “Yes please! And give me your phone, please.”
“Haha—wait why?” Jason asked with a chuckle.
“I’mma call her for you! ‘Cause you are always busy and said you are dummy.”
“Rei, you are not calling Sophie.”
“Someone gotta do it duh! You say it is okay to be scared but we gotta be brave sometimes, right JJ?”
“Don’t use my logic and words against me, child!”
The boy laughed knowing he won today as the phone was tossed over to him with the contact open to the girl in question. There was a mutual conversation between the two, because it was true.
Sometimes you need a little push to do something, even if it doesn’t always turn out well. If you ain’t gonna do it for yourself, sometimes will always do it for you. It’s something the blonde used to preach a lot, even though it wasn’t advice he didn’t always take for himself.
It was the sad part about advice but it was the truth. Sometimes you don’t take your own words too heart.
———
Moments like this, he knew Rei was the one of the coolest and smartest kids in the world. But he wouldn’t exactly tell him all that too often because according to Peggy, they’re godson’s ego would grow two sizes too big if they did.
But they love the Stark boys nonetheless.
As he left to enter the road leading to the house, he could hear Rei’s voice talking with Sophie on the phone. He could’ve sworn he heard a chuckle or two escape his mouth as his tone tried to remain calm. There were moments he heard Rei give a snarky or rude comment and joke about something in his signature tone of voice.
It was a little out of character for the kid since he didn’t like anyone very often, always giving a rude attitude towards the person that crossed his path and always liked to stay in his zone. Be a homebody and be around people he already knew instead of meeting new people.
Jason blamed himself for that, it was like Rei inherited that part of him.
But this side of Rei, where if determined he will find the confidence within himself and talk to the person, make conversation with them if it meant he got something in return.
That was something he inherited from his mother and grandmother. Maria Winter and Maria Stark.
Tumblr media
Because Rei knew if he got his godfather a date with this girl, come Christmas time, he will get extra presents from both adults. Plus he might have another person who makes his Pops somewhat happy for a little while.
He may not always show it, but he very much appreciated Jason and grateful for having him in his life. The least he can do see him enjoy himself every once in a while with someone else, but not too much because at the end of the day that was his pops. No one else’s.
~~~
The rest of the car ride was pretty nice. Music blasting from the radio, the sun shining through the clouds and the small noise the came from the car after Rei finished his small chat with Sophie. According to him, he liked the girl and Jason chuckled at his nod of approval.
The duo were just chatting, even after parking in front of Mansion and walked inside with grocery bags, they kept discussing topics. More like Rei kept rambling on about the movie he wanted to watch, what he wanted for dinner and the idea he had for the garage. Jason just chuckled nodding and responding announcing to Jarvis they’re back home.
As Jason was putting away the groceries and getting started on lunch time, Tony walked in ruffing Rei’s hair. Tony turned to face the two and raise an eyebrow as he asked, “Okay your a good mood. Spill.”
Rei rolled his eyes and shrugged, “Nothing, dad. Relax.”
“Yeah bubba, we just went out to go some shopping. You hungry?” Jason added with a smile.
Tony nodded replies that he’s starving, sitting down next to his son. Jason told them lunch would be started soon, he just needed to change his clothes into something more comfortable, walking out of the kitchen.
Rei smiled leaning back waiting for him be out of hallway and upstairs as Tony grinned taking out the chicken nuggets and fries from the freezer with ease. Once Tony made sure his uncle out gone, he whipped his head towards Rei and asked, “Okay kid, what do you know?”
“I ain’t telling.” Rei replied with a matching grin waiting for his end of the bribe.
His father sighed, “Alright, two weeks at Disneyland park next month.”
“And?” His son added with a tune waiting for more.
“Ice cream after dinner while Pepper is asleep.”
“Much better!”
“Now spill, squirt.”
“JJ saw his ex girlfriend at the store.”
“He did?! And what happened?”
“They talked and whatever. She’s pretty much a nice girl.”
“You met her?”
“We talked for like less than 20 minutes. She is one mom’s old friends.”
Tony thought for a moment trying to remember of ex girlfriend’s Winter friends as his eyes shined, “You mean the one that looked like Disney princess with some attitude that came that last year’s New Years Eve party? Always wears a ponytail and a cute burgundy shirt?”
“Yeahhh? That one. How did you know? Don’t tell me you dated her? Gross!” Rei asked millions of questions with a weird face.
“No of course not! Not my type, I remember her cause she brought us ticket to the Mets game last year. I think your mom and her always get their nails somewhere close by when you were a little.”
“Ohhh! Oh—that was her?! ‘Baseball girl’ you called you?”
“Yup kiddo, that’s the one. I didn’t know JJ liked her.”
“I guess so! He was a chicken and dumped her, I had to call her and see what she is like.”
“You set your godfather up on a date? You’re definitely my kid!”
That was when Jason walked back in the kitchen wearing sweatpants and his favorite t-shirt noticing how they sorta got quiet when he walked inside. Seeing them getting along very well and grinning towards one another.
It was a nice surprise to see them acting like silly gooses but it was odd even the faces they were making.
He gave them a confused look waving his hand in the air and asked, “What you guys talking about?”
Both of them looked at one another then back at them as they replied, “Nothing!”

{BAND-AIDS AU: Soap, Ghost and Rocky(my oc) got caught by the enemy and are trying to figure out how to escape.]
Ghost: We need a plan... how long can you breath underwater?
Soap: I don't know.
Ghost: Are you familiar with the term 'slam and cram'?
Soap: No, and I don't think I wanna be.
Rocky: How attached are you to your pinky?
Soap, tucking his hands into his pockets: Very, very attached, and before ye ask another terrifyingly vague question, let me be clear: any plan that involves even one of those scenarios isn't going to work for me.

Marvel OC Number 2:
Name: Rebecca Sitwell
Story: X Marks The Spot (link to Wattpad version here!)
Pronouns: She/Her, changes They/Them later
Short Bio: An orphan given a home with Jasper Sitwell, Rebecca only ever knew SHIELD. It was Rebecca’s life. This unhealthy devotion is challenged when partnered with Aaron Johnson on a mission, and meeting a bunch of people who help Rebecca discover who the person behind that name and badge really are.
Personality: Loyal to a fault. Compassionate. Empathetic to everyone, though this can start to become unhealthy when Rebecca can get lost in that. Insecure because of the SHIELD dying during the HYDRA uprising and losing a sense of self. Desperate for approval. Unsure of who they are. Friendly. Deeply loving to those Rebecca calls friends.
Relationships with OG Team:
Daisy Johnson and Rebecca Sitwell
Daisy didn’t trust Rebecca at first when they met in “The HUB”. Daisy thought Rebecca was too loyal to the set of rules SHIELD had laid out for them all. However, she then grew to respect for Rebecca, seeing how the agent risked their life for Aaron and was loyal to him and the mission. They had a talk, where Rebecca revealed about their time at the orphanage and how SHIELD was their life. After that, their dynamic grew, with Rebecca even telling Daisy about some of Aaron’s quirks before Daisy herself noticed them. They became friends, close friends. During season 3, however, there was a sort of strain on them, with how they wanted to handle the Aaron situation. They both wanted to help, but were going about it different ways. Their rough patch, however, didn’t deter their friendship. They were still loyal to each other, despite their approaches to helping their friend. Within Season 4, when Daisy sees the pair again, she is happy to see her friend, just as elated as Rebecca is. Close friends/Sibling-like dynamic.
Jemma Simmons and Rebecca Sitwell
Jemma respected Rebecca as a SHIELD agent the moment the two met. Jemma was mainly worried about Fitz, but knew he had Ward; and knowing Aaron had Rebecca was a calming measure to her as well. When the pair returned, Jemma patched Rebecca up as well, pitying the agent for not knowing that their own father sent them on essentially a suicide mission. After that mission, Jemma felt an instinct to protect Rebecca. She became an older sister to the agent, keeping tabs on them where she could and being protective, especially when REAL SHIELD revealed themselves in Season 2; Jemma was especially defensive of Rebecca during this segment, keeping them close and stepping in when needed. When Rebecca has her breakdown, it is Fitzsimmons who comfort them, and help them find the will to keep going. During Season 3, Rebecca was a torn between finding Simmons, and dealing with the growing Aaron situation on the side, but Jemma never held any ill will towards Rebecca for the choice they made. Close friends/sibling figures.
Leopold Fitz and Rebecca Sitwell
Fitz was intimidated by Rebecca at first because of their status as a field agent, but was indebted to them after being a distraction for Fitz and Ward’s mission. Like Jemma, he too felt sorry for the agent when Rebecca learnt of the suicide mission they were sent on. He became a calming presence to them after. They carried guilt in Season 2 for not visiting Fitz as often given his brain injury, but he wasn’t angry at his friend. He even trusted them to help him when the BUS had a virus on it. When REAL SHIELD revealed themselves, Fitz too became a wall to protect Rebecca, and Rebecca repaid that favour by being protective over Fitz when they had to work with Ward. Close friends/Sibling Figures
Aaron Johnson and Rebecca Sitwell
Aaron and Rebecca met and were partnered up for a mission during “The HUB”. The two were professional with each other, if a bit standoffish at times, but worked well as a team. As the mission progressed, they began to respect each other and be open with one another more. Rebecca stayed with an injured Aaron, ready to face down anything while awaiting pickup. Rebecca stayed with Aaron while he recovered. After that, the two started a friendship. Meeting once again in “SEEDS” the two continued to bond, learning more about each other and trying to keep one another out of trouble. When SHIELD fell, Aaron wanted to know if Rebecca was ok. The two didn’t reunite until Season 2, where they were partnered up and tasked with going off the grid and taking down high value members of HYDRA. The two seemed to slip back into professionalism mode, but their strong friendship shone through the cracks with certain interactions such as supporting each other or even Shari and a bed at one point. Aaron got Rebecca to loosen up, while Rebecca helped Aaron see the good that was within him. Season 3 proved difficult for the pair, with them being on opposing sides and Rebecca tracking Aaron down. But when they met, Rebecca let Aaron go, knowing he would be ripped to shreds otherwise. When they reunited in “The Ghost” in Season 4, things were dicey between them, but Rebecca still tried to be Aaron’s friend. As the arc continued, their friendship as rekindled, despite some low ends. Best friends.
Phil Coulson and Rebecca Sitwell
Coulson respected Rebecca as an agent, but Coulson was a legend to Rebecca. However, after learning of his friend sending his own daughter on a suicide mission, then his betrayal of SHIELD, Coulson becoming a fatherly figure to Rebecca. He was concerned for them during Season 2, but always did what he could to try help them and keep them from burning out. During Season 3, this reached a peak, with him seeing how everything going on and Aaron’s whole statuation was destroying Rebecca Sitwell from the inside. While he didn’t approve of a romantic relationship she had with an agent within SHIELD, he didn’t stop them. When the agent died, he comforted her, hating to ask her to then track down Aaron. Rebecca shut themselves down, and had little contact with Coulson. However, during “The Ghost” Coulson has mellowed a bit, but still a fatherly light for Rebecca. Friends/Father-child bond
Melinda May and Rebecca Sitwell
Melinda May intimidated Rebecca at first. But they soon found a method whenever they worked together of professionalism. However, May still looked out for the agent in her own ways, though more subtle than she did with others. The main look into their bond came within the “Ghost Rider” arc in early Season 4. When May came to New Orleans to aid the pair in their investigation, she took care of Rebecca when they turned to alcoholism to try and deal with everything. Rebecca, when falling asleep, accidentally called May “mum”. And while May didn’t correct their words, she did pause. Friends/Mother-child bond

In Love
Summary: Clint Barton x Fe!Reader ~ Turns out, you’ve been keeping a massive secret from Clint despite being his friend and co-worker for the last six years.
Disclaimer: violence, swearing (I think), pining, life-or-death situations, kiss to keep cover, fluff, hand holding, angst, blood, torture, Clint does not have kids or a wife or has ever, 16+ themes (Criminal Minds kinda thing). MDNI - This is your warning - If you read on, you have agreed to read 16+ themes.
Tumblr media
The moment you came home your first day in the field, you knew what was to come.
You never fell in love. Never even fell into ‘like’. But the moment you met him…it was game over. Your future self laughed at your younger self.
“I’m never gonna fall in love.” you would say. “I’m never gonna like a boy like that. I’m not going to want someone to come home to. I want my own space. I don’t want anyone by my side. I don’t need anyone but my dogs. They can keep me company when I’m old and grey.”
God, you wished you could be like that again. Despite knowing none of it would be true, you wished you still had those ideologies. That you would never fall in love. That you would never date or marry or want children and turn out to be a Sports Mom with a minivan filled with gear, orange slices and cases of water you got on sale from Costco.
But the moment you saw him…that ideology died. In fact, it burst into a ball of flames.
You had never had that feeling before. That kind of feeling that sent a tornado through your stomach, blood pumping around your body as if you’d just fought for your life in a cross country race and your heart doing somersaults against your lungs that knocked the air out of them.
But the moment you saw him…you had to scold yourself.
And you scolded yourself over and over and over and over again, for years.
Agent Clint Barton was first and foremost your teammate. You could only trust one another to the extent that the other did. Same with the rest of your team.
Without trust, there would be no foundation for anything.
And he trusted you. That much was clear.
Afterwards, you, Clint and the rest of your team became friends and before long, you were a unit. A family.
Each and every one of you knew the other like the back of your hands, except…Clint felt like he was missing something with you.
He knew you were keeping something from him. And sometimes it felt like the rest of the team were trying to keep your secret, too.
Though, you knew that the rest of the team didn’t know for certain about your feelings towards Clint. They knew you but when it came to your love life, you were the only one none of them could figure out. Your cards were kept firmly against your chest.
One evening, Willa (one of your teammates) spotted you in a small cafe getting a drink with a guy and when she saw you Monday morning, she instantly asked you about him. The whole team was there. Were you about to reveal that you have a secret boyfriend this whole time? Perhaps he was your husband and you had 4 kids and secretly owned a private school in Nebraska?
But, no.
“He was just a guy and we had a good time but I don’t think I’m gonna see him again.”
“Why not?” Clint asked you.
“Because the day after I saw him in the park with his girlfriend and their dog.”
“Ooh,”
“I’m sorry, honey.” Willa frowned.
“It’s okay.”
For the next couple of months, you went on more dates. Some were set up by Willa and Jerry (another teammate) and the rest by online sites. And, some were more successful than others but in the end, none of them gave you that feeling that you had when you first met Clint. That kind of feeling, the moment you dropped your bag and closed your front door had you nodding your head and accepting, “Yep, this is it.” as you realised, somehow, miraculously, you’d managed to have a loving crush on someone. But it wouldn’t matter, because he is your teammate.
And, after two years of trying to get rid of your feelings for him, or at least, trying to accept them and move on with your life, Clint sent your heart spirally and fell even harder when yourself, Willa, Jerry, Una and Clint were all sent on a mission together.
It was an extraction.
The host of the gala was a multi-millionaire and would be auctioning off his prized possessions in a secret auction. The gala was simply a front. After all, why would more than three dozen highly wealthy people all come to the same country for “a holiday”.
His prized possessions included a hard-drive that opened the buyer to a world of information surrounding offshore accounts that were used to help free-lance agents that still had ties to any and all government organisations.
Shield included.
Only, after the initial smooth sailing, things took a turn.
“It’s not here.”
From the other side of the bar, your eyes met with Clint’s and you spoke into your drink as you lifted it to your lips. “What do you mean it’s not there?”
“I mean it’s not here.” Jerry told you down comms. “The harddrive. It’s not in this room.”
“Then where could it- oh no.”
“Oh no? What oh no?” Clint asked.
Willa turned her back to the column. “It’s in his jacket.”
“What do you mean it’s in his jacket?”
“Ten O’clock.”
Low and behold, there the host stood, the silver USB stick in his hand, smiling as he waved it around three other potential buyers.
One of them went to touch it and the host pocketed it before he could, smiling before removing his jacket and handing it to his butler beside him who folded it up and began to walk away with it.
“Where’s he taking it?”
Willa lip-read what she could from the conversation.
“His bedroom.”
“His bedroom is heavily guarded.”
“You don’t say.”
“Guys, what are we going to do? We need that hard drive.” Jerry’s voice rang through.
“Someone needs to get his attention.” Willa replied.
“How?” you asked.
“I have an idea.”
Moments later, Clint was by your side.
“What are you-”
“Just trust me. You can punch me later.”
You placed your hand in Clint’s as he led you to the dance floor and suddenly you were very aware of your own skin. It was an odd feeling.
“Just do what I do. But backwards. And in heels.”
“Thanks, Fred. What exactly is your plan here?”
Clint’s eyes met yours. “He looks in your direction every 45 seconds. I’m going to give him an excuse to make his move.”
You yelped in shock as Clint pulled you flush against him, his hand flexing on your lower back.
“Just trust me?”
You caught the sincere look in his eyes and all you could do was nod.
It worked.
Just as Clint was moving you around the dance floor, your mind going elsewhere, there came a tap onto Clint’s shoulder.
“May I cut in?”
“Of course.”
Clint pressed a kiss to your cheek, quickly whispering in your ear. “Flirt. You look beautiful, by the way.”
You smiled and nodded as he walked away, letting your hands slip from his and into the host’s. And, after flirting for the length of a song, feeling his hands go lower down your back, your own hands stopping him, he finally walked you up the stairs and towards his bedroom.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got eyes on you.” Clint spoke down comms.
You looked over your shoulder as you climbed the grand staircase with the host’s hand at your back, and you saw Clint to the left of the dance floor, watching you carefully.
Once you found yourself with the host, alone, in his bedroom and the guards told to clear away and take their break for an hour or so, you made quick work in knocking him out, finding the jacket and removing the hard drive.
Only, once you left and met Clint outside the bedroom door, a new to duty guard came around the corner.
“Just follow me.” Clint took your hand in his as he pocketed the hard drive into his jacket.
You only got half-way walking down the hall when the guard, who had peaked in on the host, came back out and shouted for you both to stop.
Of course, you didn’t.
You both ran instead.
Then an alarm was pulled and every guard the host paid seemed to be after you and Clint.
“What are you going to do?” Willa asked as Clint pressed something into her hand as he ran past her and out of the door.
“We’ll meet you back at the safe house.” Clint told Willa. “Just take the hard drive and get it to Jerry. Una, tell me you’ve got the van ready.”
“Ready. I’ll meet Willa and Jerry at the extraction point.”
“Good.”
And for the next ten minutes, you and Clint were running through the streets and back alleyways of the town, running in separate directions for a while before bumping into each other down a side-ally.
Footsteps were coming closer and the sound of bullets were flying through the air.
“They don’t know what they’re aiming at.”
“But they’ll find us soon.”
“If we run out now, they’ll shoot at us.”
“So what do we do?”
“I don’t know.” you looked at him, breathless, before looking back down the alley.
Then it hit Clint.
“I have an idea but I need you to trust me. Like, really trust me.”
“Jesus Christ, Barton. Just get on with it.” you finally called out as he tried to prevent the inevitability of his plan - despite you not knowing what it was.
The footsteps were drawing closer and for a moment they stopped, a light flashed down the alleyway and voice talked before the running continued.
But none of that registered in the moment because your brain was short-circuiting since Clint’s bright idea was to kiss you.
His hands came to your face and he could feel your hands on his arms, ready to push him off and probably punch him. But you didn’t. And, rather than the kiss being stiff and awkward…it was unlike any other.
One of his hands still remained by the side of your face when the light shone down the path but his other came down your body, sending goosebumps in their wake, before he pulled you against him and he stepped closer pressing you between him and the wall.
Your own hands travelled up to his neck and pulled him closer but once the footsteps died away, the kiss slowly came to an end leaving you both breathless against one another.
“I think it worked.”
Clint nodded, swallowing hard, as he looked at you.
How had he never noticed the reflection of the stars in your eyes before?
“I think it did. Are you gonna punch me now?”
Clint watched as you paused for a moment.
“Not right now. But if they come back, I might.”
“We better go?”
You nodded. “We better go.”
You had to push yourself along because you knew, if you didn’t, you’d kiss him again and he’d simply kissed you to avoid getting caught, right? There would be no dire consequences after that kiss.
But all Clint could do was scold himself as you both made your way back to the safe house. How had he never noticed the stars in your eyes before? Or how, in the morning, the rays of the sun shone back just as bright? He also scolded himself from allowing himself to emotionally indulge in the kiss he shared with you. You are his teammate. And he knew himself.
He couldn’t let his heart get involved, or else there would be dire consequences.
Initially, things felt…awkward. But, after four years, it was just an old memory, right? And, yeah, sure, the memory would be revisited from time to time whether independently or shared…kinda. Mostly, this was when the team would have drinks one night and would be talking about love lives and first kisses and worst kisses.
“Alright, alright, alright. I’ll give you that one.” Una said, swirling her bottle of beer. “But kissing to avoid something, that can't work, can it?”
“It can.”
Your mouth spoke the words before your brain could stop you.
“And how would you know?”
You caught Clint’s smirk as he looked down to his beer.
“I just do.”
“Oh, really?”
“Come on, tell us!” Willa cried.
You shook your head with a suppressed laugh. “I’ve said too much.”
“No, come on!”
“Maybe some other time.”
“No fair.”
“Okay,” you smiled. “You tell us about what happened with Derek and your ‘worldly knowledge’ and I’ll tell you my story.”
Willa narrowed her eyes at you, playfully. “You play a clever game.”
You just sat back and smiled.
But despite all of this, four years on, neither you or Clint had seemingly changed. But he still felt like you were hiding something from him.
Except, he’d find out soon enough. And not in a way either of you hoped he would.
This time, you’d been called in on your day off.
“What’s going on?”
Clint turned around from the monitor and was at first taken aback from your clothing. Usually, you wore black pants and a black t-shirt to work or a work shirt or, if the situation called for it, sand coloured cargo trousers and a breathable t-shirt. Though, that was usually when having to attend a military base outside of cooler weather.
Instead, you wore a cosy jumper and dungarees that had paint splatter all over them, including your white pumps and small freckles of pain on the baby hairs that had escaped their cover of the hair bandanna.
Clint also spotted the remnants of nail polish in your cuticles and light paint on the side of your hands.
“We’ve just got- have you been decorating?”
You looked over yourself. “Oh, yeah. Felt like a change. Anyway, whats going on?”
“We’ve just got wind of a hostage situation. We can’t make verbal contact with the abductor but they did send this out.”
It was a note.
And it was through that note that led you and Clint making an extraction which was initially successful until you did a final sweep afterwards only to be knocked out when you spotted a door had been left ajar and the lights turned off.
Clint, after not hearing your reply, came in after you.
And that was how you both ended up waking up inside some beat down old home that had probably been designed in the 40s.
His voice was hazy, but you heard Clint call your name. You also tried your best to take in a breath but was only met with a damp stench and the feeling of your lungs crushing you into shock.
“Take it easy, he hit you pretty hard.”
After a few minutes, you finally gained some normality in your lungs but the sting was still there.
“What happened?”
“After he went all sleeper agent on you, I came in and found you unconscious. I was trying to wake you when he stuck something in my neck.”
“I see you got the peaceful option.”
“Funny.”
“Where the hell are we?” you asked, trying your best to look around.
“I don’t know. I haven’t heard any cars so I’m gonna take a guess and say we’re in the middle of nowhere.”
“Well, that narrows it down.”
“Did you see who took us?”
“No.”
“Would you like to?”
You and Clint snapped your heads to the open space in front of you both.
Out from the shadows appeared the guy who you had seen just before his gun came across your head and your body hit the ground.
The man walked from one side of the room, to the other, screwing in the light-bulbs beneath the lampshades causing both you and Clint to squint at the brightness. You’d both been submerged in darkness for quite some time.
“My name is Jack. I know, how original. It was actually my mother’s father’s name. Named after my grandfather, grand ol’ Jack. Lived till he was 92. Always said the best way to survive was to always tell the truth. That lies weighed on the soul. And to have a small shot of whiskey before going to bed. Said that was good for the heart since it quietened the mind.”
“Really touching story,” you cut him off. “But why are we here?”
“Don’t you get it?”
You and Clint looked at one another. Had you both missed a part of this conversation?
“I tried to save those people in the warehouse.” Jack told both of you as he straddled a chair. “People in this world need saving from themselves. People are dying younger than they ever did. And it’s because of all the lies. The lies they keep from their parents, and their children and themselves. It’s all crushing their soul. And I knew…” Jack smiled, wagging his finger. “I knew the moment I saw you down there that yours was being crushed the most.”
“Saw me?”
Jack stood from his chair. “I was in the corner office, on the top floor. It has an excellent view. Whoever has that office next will love it. The accents on the wall, ah magnificent.” Jack kissed his fingers before continuing. “But it gave me a good scope. I understand not everyone will…agree with my methods, per say.”
“No, because you took people hostage.” Clint pointed out.
“I was trying to save them! And I was finally getting through to them until those SWAT guys pulled out my team.”
“Again, because you had taken them hostage. And now you’ve taken us hostage.”
“This world needs saving!” Jack yelled. “It needs saving from the lies people tell and the secrets they all hide.”
“Alright!” you yelled out before calming your voice. “Alright. So…the world needs saving? Jack, do you really think you’re saving it…by killing people? The hold-up down on 9th? That was you, right? Those people you let go-”
“They let their souls free. They told the truth.”
“So, if we-” you looked at Clint before turning back to Jack. “If we tell you the truth, will you let us go?”
“Yes.”
For a moment, the feeling in the room got lighter. Maybe there was a way out after all.
“But you’ll only lie. No, you…your secrets are too big to just give up freely. You…you’re a take em’ to the grave kinda gal. So, no. I won’t let you go. Not until I know that it’s the truth.”
“How will you know?”
Clint regretted asking the question.
“Because she’ll be begging to tell me. You both will.”
Neither of you knew how much time had passed but the spots from the light were getting duller and bigger.
“No, no. You can not sleep yet. You haven’t freed your soul.”
“Why do we have to free our souls?” you asked, the taste of blood coming to your mouth. “What if I don’t want to be saved? You said it yourself. I’d rather take mine to the grave.”
“Oh, but you don’t. Not really.”
Jack had been circling you and Clint for a while, as if he were a hunter, teasing you - waiting for you to beg to be killed.
“No, I can see it in your eyes. The eyes never lie.”
Jack levelled himself though he wasn’t close enough to knock out. His hands gripped your thighs as he hummed, annoyance clear in his expression as he tried to figure out your secret.
“Perhaps you killed someone? No, that isn’t it. Maybe you ran away? Have a secret family? No, that’s not it either. The eyes never lie to me. What is it? What are you not telling me? What are you not telling yourself?”
Clint called your name and Jack saw the slightest change in you. So slight, in fact, even you didn’t feel it.
“It’s him. It had something to do with your team. No, teammate. It’s him and just him.”
Jack pushed against your thighs so he could stand up straight. Quickly, he made his way over to Clint and circled him.
“What is it? What is it about you, huh? What has her secret got to do with you? Let's see if we can find out.”
You heard the snap of a switchblade as it opened and the fight for Jack to steady Clint but before he could make the first cut or slice, you cried out.
“Stop! He doesn’t know! He- he doesn’t know. Please…just…just don’t hurt him. Please.”
Jack looked over to you and Clint’s name escaped your lips, both in pleading and question.
“Oh…oh, this runs so much deeper than just a secret.”
You lowered your head for a moment. The pounding in your heart was only made harder by your own silent cries telling you to not say anything else. But there was a chance you’d both die, so why not tell him? Right? Maybe it would save your lives? Or would it only give Jack more ammunition to use?
 “Doesn’t it?”
“Please…don’t.”
Jack knelt in front of you and gently touched your cheek before moving his hand down and grasping under your jaw, forcing your head up.
“Tell me. Let me free your soul.”
Tears rolled down your cheeks, your heart crushing your lungs inside your chest.
“If you don’t tell me, I will only hurt him more. And you don’t want to hurt him. Tell me. Help me save both of you. Tell me. No, tell him.”
Jack moved your head, forcing you to look at Clint with tear stained cheeks.
“I’m sorry, Clint. I’m so sorry.”
Your name came from Clint’s voice, barely above a whisper.
“You can admit it,” Jack said your name. “You committed the most heinous act an agent such as yourself can do, didn’t you? You created a danger, not only for him, but yourself.”
Clint said your name again, trying to move his hands only to find them still shackled to his chair.
“You fell in love.”
You took in a breath, the beating feeling in your chest, turning into a stabbing feeling against your lungs. Your head remained down as you squoze your eyes shut, more tears escaping from your lids, down your lashes and onto your lap.
“Please…”
You didn’t even know if Jack could hear you, but you pleaded with him anyway.
“We need to hear you say it.”
You remained silent but then-
“Say it!”
Jack’s hand came to your face and pushed you to look at him.
“Say it! Say it!”
You continued to plead with him until he pushed you back further and you screamed out.
“I fell in love! I fell in love! Please! Stop! No! Please! I-I fell in love! I fell in love with him! Please! I-I fell in love with him. I’m in love with him!”
Jack stopped and waited a moment before pulling you back so all four legs of the chair were on the ground and he finally removed his hand from your face.
“And there it is.”
He was smiling. The look and sound of fear in your body had pushed him further but the defeated look on your face…that couldn’t be bought. That had to be created, by his hands.
Clint looked between Jack and you and he didn’t know what to be more worried about. What Jack could possibly do to you next, or the fact that even he knew you were telling the truth to Jack.
You were in love with him.
But he didn’t have long to sit and think about it because flashing lights suddenly came from behind the thick fabric that covered the broken windows, blocking out the light of the day and night.
“No! No!” Jack shouted. “I still need to save them!”
It all happened so quickly, Clint barely caught the fact that Willa had rushed inside, Una arresting Jack and detaining him. Willa rushed over to Clint as Jerry came over to you.
“How did you find us?” Clint asked Willa as Jerry came behind you and picked the locks of your handcuffs.
“Are you okay?”
Jerry knew it was a stupid question, even when you didn’t answer him.
“A dog walker called it in. Said they could hear someone yelling as if they were in pain. He also knew no one has lived in this house since 1982.”
As Willa picked Clint’s handcuffs, Jerry had managed to get you out of yours and without looking back, you darted for the door.
“Wait, wait,” Una called after you. “We need to wait for the medics.”
“Can you take me to the hospital?”
Una looked you over. She could see the clear look in your eyes. You didn’t want to stay here for another second.
“Don’t you want to wait for Clin-”
“Now?”
Una nodded, radioing into Willa who was standing behind Clint, letting Jerry finish unpicking the locks.
“Sure, I’ll call ahead.”
“Thank you, Willa.”
Hoping into the passenger seat, you shut the door as Una climbed into the driver’s seat and took off down the road and to the local hospital.
“What happened in there?” Una asked you as she flicked her eyes from the road to you and back again.
“I don’t wanna talk about it.”
Even with your hand shaking, you pushed your fingers across your face to try and wipe away the tears.
By the time you arrived at the hospital, you were taken to a separate room where Una stayed in the waiting room, filling out your forms. Your hands were too shaky to even hold a pen and you could just about remember your own name.
The doctor ran multiple tests and pushed the small cuts together with closure slips.
“You’re all good but I’d like you to remain here for a couple hours, just in case there’s any change.”
You nodded and quietly thanked the doctor as she left.
There were patches of dirt on your hands, as well as blood and old tears where they washed away the stains.
After an hour, Una came in only to leave a few minutes later since she was called back to base to interrogate Jack. And, as she left, you slowly lowered yourself down on the hospital bed and, despite the noise in your head, you fell asleep.
A few hours later, a nurse came in and woke up.
“You can go home now, honey. We’re gonna need this bed.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.” you tried to get up quickly but the nurse only laid a hand on your shoulder.
“It’s okay, honey. Take your time. I read your chart, you took quite the hit. Your friend is waiting for you in the waiting room to take you home.”
You nodded, swinging your legs over the side.
“Here. Take these for the headache.”
“Thank you.”
“No worries, honey.”
By the time you had grabbed your jacket and started walking down the hallway, you stalled when you saw who the nurse was talking about.
If you had the energy, you probably would have run in the opposite direction. But you didn’t. You were tired and if the nurse hadn’t woken you, you probably would have slept for the next 24 hours.
“Una was gonna come but I fought her for it.” Clint tried to smile but he could see your’s was just forced.
“Look, what happened-”
“Clint, please…I– I don’t want to talk about it. I just want to go home.”
“Okay.”
The drive back was silent and awkward and by the time he pulled up, you looked at him for as long as you could stomach (which wasn’t long) before opening up the door and thanking him.
And, the moment you pushed your key inside your door, you thought you were safe. That everything was finished for the day and you could deal with it tomorrow.
But Clint got out of the car and called your name.
“Wait!”
He took the porch steps two at a time and when he finally reached you, you forced yourself to look at him.
“I need to say something.”
“You don’t have to say anything, Clint.”
“But I want to.”
“Please…I’d…I just want to forget what happened today. Please…I can’t do it again.”
“I know you’re scared and watching what he was doing to you…I was scared, too. I am. I am scared.”
“Clint,” you could see the look in his eyes and you shook your head. “No. Don’t. Don’t say anything you’re gonna regret.”
“The only thing I regret is not telling you earlier.” Clint told you. “Then maybe none of this would have happened.”
“Clint-”
“I-”
“Please.”
Your hand flew to his chest and he stopped talking. “Please. Whatever you’re about to say…please wait. Wait for the right time.”
Finally, you looked at him and his hands came to the top of your arms, stroking downwards before holding you close.
“Please…just wait.”
“Okay.”
That was all he said before kissing your head and saying it again.
“Okay. I’ll wait.”
By the time you woke up in the morning, your mind had stilled and before it could get loud again, you started painting again. All of your furniture was covered and two out of the 6 walls you had planned to paint had been cleaned, stripped, sanded, coated and painted.
And, just as you started on the third, a knock came to your door.
“I just want to help.” Clint told you. “And, let’s be honest, last time you tried decorating this place on your own, you nearly knocked yourself out with paint cleaner.”
You, for the first time in the last 48 hours, smiled.
“You can take the kitchen. There should be some new cupboards to keep you company.”
“You’re finally changing them?” Clint asked, entering the kitchen, his tool belt around his hips.
“I am. Picked them out last week.”
“Thank god.” he said. “I hated the last ones.”
“Same.”
The rest of the day ran smoothly enough, despite what the last couple of days had revealed. Clint informed you that you and him both had the next two weeks off before either of you could go back into the field. He also helped fix the kitchen cabinets to the wall as well as install your new oven. You could have done it on your own, but having someone else there made it easier. Clint also helped you move around the heavier furniture and, when fixing the wiring to the lightbulb, he held the ladder steady under you so you wouldn’t fall.
And for the following two days, neither of you mentioned anything about what happened with Jack. It was like nothing had ever happened in the first place.
Until Clint decided he couldn’t wait anymore.
It was easier, before the kiss, to shut off his feelings for you; that worry, that concern, that joy that exceeded more than just the smile of friendship. But after, they became much more clear. He saw the stars in your eyes and the light in your smile. He was more than just amazed at your talents of being an agent. Of course, those who joined Shield all had similar talents, but there was just something more about you. More to be figured out, more to learn, more to be desired and most of all, more to be loved.
He couldn’t wait any longer.
Sure, he’d been called stubborn before but now he was impatient. He’d let time slip by for six years and in that time there had been moments where he wanted to call out from the top of buildings that his feelings for you were more than that of a friend, of a teammate. But he couldn’t.
There was always a mission or a job to be done or a date that got in the way. And now, there had been a raging lunatic that, if Willa and the rest of the team hadn’t landed when they did, could have killed you. He’d set your soul free, you’d been able to tell your secret. What was to stop him from not letting the rest of you go? What was stopping him from shooting you where you sat or using your life against his?
Nothing.
Because Clint couldn’t free himself. He couldn’t free himself from his chair or the shackles that kept him there. No matter how many times he called out your name or shouted for Jack to stop, he couldn’t free himself. He couldn’t get there. He couldn’t stop Jack from doing whatever he wanted to the women he fell in love with all those years ago.
But he could do something now.
So, as you stood beside him in the kitchen measuring out a plank of wood to fit on the wall above your stove, Clint looked at you and finally told you what he’d been wanting to tell you for years and what he was about to tell you two days ago before you begged him to wait, you not fully knowing whether he was going to reject you or tell you that he loved you.
“I’m in love with you.”
Whatever you had been saying about the plank of wood and how you needed to get some more sandpaper from Home Depot quickly came to a stop as you stumbled over your words and looked at him.
“What?”
“I’m in love with you.” Clint repeated.
“No, Clint. Don’t-”
“I’m not just saying it because of what happened.” Clint assured you. “I should have told you years ago but I kept making excuses. But, after what happened, I don’t want to be able to find an excuse. I nearly lost you because I didn’t tell you sooner. I’m not losing you again. I’m in love with you.”
You were stunned to say the least.
“I know, two days ago, you told me to wait. I was going to tell you when I got to the hospital but they told me you’d just fallen asleep. And then you told me to wait when I dropped you off and maybe I should, but I don’t want to. I don’t want to miss a chance to tell you again.”
Again, you were stunned into silence.
“I’m in love with you.”
“I’m dizzy.”
That was all you could say. All the information and realisation of every action made in the last six years all hit you at once.
Swiftly, Clint pulled out one of the bar stools and you sat down holding your head.
“You’re in love with me?”
“I’m in love with you.” Clint repeated.
“You’re in love…with me? Me? The woman sat in front of you? Me?”
“Yes. I am in love with you.”
“Have you inhaled paint cleaner?”
Clint chuckled and pulled out a chair himself, sitting with his knees locked into yours before he took your hands in his.
He stated your full name, “I am in love with you. And have been for the last six years.” Clint also stated your birthdate, star sign, address and badge number. “Does that clear it up?”
Your heart was beating in your chest so fast you thought it might actually explode.
“Clint, I…I need to know you’re not just saying this because of what happened.”
Clint gave a small nod. “I have an idea but I’m gonna need you to trust me. Like, really trust me.”
You nodded and a moment later, Clint’s hands had moved from yours to your face, cupping your cheeks before pulling you in for a kiss.
It was gentle and loving and unlike any other kiss you had experienced before. Other guys had taken what they wanted, forced the kind of kiss they wanted out of you. But not Clint.
Somehow, he conveyed every emotion he could into the kiss and you couldn’t help but feel your mind wander back to your first kiss, down the side alleyway. That felt real. You had to convince yourself it was fake but this, and that, was real.
It was all real.
For a moment, you felt Clint smile into the kiss as your hands gripped at the collar of his checked shirt to pull him closer. A smile which you returned.
“I’m in love with you.”
“I’m in love with you, too.”
Clint smiled and kissed you again, and again, and again.
Despite everything that had happened, and everything that you had previously thought, you had come to realise that maybe it wasn’t so bad to learn to love and accept love in return. And in the years that passed, despite the dangers the job put you both in, it was nice to come home and be greeted with a familiar face and a warm embrace and to have a family you could both call your own.
