November 11th - Okoye

Born of the Border Tribe of Wakanda, young Okoye showed tremendous skills for tactical planning and physical combat.  She was the first selected to become a member of the Dora Milaje when King T’Challa reinstalled the sisterhood as the guardians of the royal court.  

In years past, The Dora Milaje had acted an elite group of Wakandan women warriors selected from the various tribes of the land.  Each were considered ‘wives in training to their king’ who acted as his bodyguards, confidants and servants.  T’Calla had the Dora Milaje reinstated to sooth political tensions in Wakanda and assure that each tribe had equal participation in the royal court.  While T’Challa brought back the Dora he did not maintain the attitude that they were wives in training, considered these women as more akin to trusted siblings as opposed to potential paramours.   

From the onset, Okoye distinguished herself as the most adept of the Dora Milaje and was named captain of the guard.  She acted as T’Challa’s bodyguard and chauffeur during his trips abroad and has continued on as one of his most trusted advisors.

Following the appointment of T'Challa as chairman of the Avengers, he opted to create a secret group of intelligence-gatherers to support the main team. T'Challa sought Okoye's help to screen each potential member of the Agents of Wakanda, and she became the director of the unit herself.   

Okoye has featured prominently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portrayed by actress Danai Gurira.  The heroine first appeared in the pages of Black Panther Vol. 3 #1 (1998).

For now, Bobbi’s dipping her foot into a lot of different pots. She’s helping Nadia mentor G.I.R.L. members, serving as an Agent of Wakanda and staying as a reserve on the Daughters of Liberty roster should they ever form again. Bobbi’s personal life continues to be all over the place, but she’s trying her best. Bobbi’s been in the game a long time and has gone through a lot of shit. From S.H.I.E.L.D. to Avenger and with everything in between, she’s done a damn good job keeping her head on. That’s not going to change now.

✗ CLINT BARTON (616) may be Bobbi’s ex-husband, but she’ll always hold love for him. The two have tried to make it work time and time again to no avail. It’s always going to be complicated with Clint, and that’s something Bobbi has learned to accept over the years. She wouldn’t trade their time together, but it would have been nice if there could have been a happily ever after. It’s too bad those don’t exist.

✗ JANET VAN DYNE (616) and Bobbi are long time friends who remain incredibly close. It was through Janet that Bobbi became a mentor for Nadia van Dyne’s G.I.R.L. scientists, and she does so alongside Jan. They’ve been through a lot over the years and it’s always nice to know that there’s someone on your side. Women in the superhero game need to stick together, and Jan is one of the best there is. Bobbi loves her dearly.

✗ LANCE HUNTER (616) is the sometime hook-up of Bobbi. He’s a good guy. A great guy, really, and Bobbi knows she’s jerked him around some. It isn’t anything intentional. She just doesn’t always have herself sorted out and that sometimes bleeds into her personal relationships. At the very least, she knows Lance is someone she can count on no matter what’s happened between them in the past.

✗ AGENTS OF WAKANDA → It’s not S.H.I.E.L.D., and for that Bobbi is grateful. When T’Challa approached her and asked if Bobbi would serve on the Avenger’s backed team she was both surprised and flattered. Life on the support crew keeps Bobbi on her toes, and she enjoys the change of pace from what she was doing before. It also leaves her time to work on other teams -- like G.I.R.L. -- and she’s grateful for the flexibility. So far, it’s been a good fit.

I forgot who it was but I remember someone replying to me about how MCU Valentina Allegra de Fontaine isn’t a bad person and that I was being too quick to judge her based on her interactions with John Walker and Yelena Belova. You know, as if recruiting an unstable war vet who committed war crimes into her shady team and ordering an assassination on an original Avenger wasn’t that bad.

After what Val said about dreaming about the day that America acquires vibranium weapons, even at the cost of what happens to nations like Wakanda, I stand by my early assessment of the character lol. That line was just pure evil.

As a side note, one of my favorite reactions to the character that I’ve seen on this site is that Val is the MCU’s Lauren Boebert. Maybe part of the reason why I thought it was hilarious was because my first thought was that she’s the MCU Sarah Palin.

October 31st - Man-Wolf

John Jonah Jameson III is the son of the Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson. An accomplished military pilot, Jamison was among the youngest candidates to be selected to become an astronaut.  His first mission into space went awry when the guidance system malfunctioned during reentry.  Captain Jamison and his crew were saved when Spider-Man was able to create a webbing parachute that slowed the craft’s and allowed for a safe landing.  Although Spidey had saved his son’s life, J. Jonah Jameson was enraged that the web-slinger had stolen the spotlight from his son and he ran an erroneous editorial claiming Spider-Man had actually sabotaged the space shuttle.  

During a second trip into outer space, Captain Jamison encountered an extraterrestrial virus that increased his strength to superhuman levels.  Jamison used this new power to battle Spider-Man when it had appeared the wall crawler had committed a bank robbery.  Spidey escaped and the true culprit behind the crime was eventually identified and apprehended.  

Some time later, Jameson manned a third space expedition to collect samples on the moon.  During the mission, Jamison discovered a large ruby known as ‘The Godstone.’ This alien relic attached itself to Jameson, transforming him into a lycanthropic being called The Man-Wolf.

Returning to Earth, he went on a rampage and battled Spider-Man. Spidey was eventually able to remove the Godstone, restoring Jameson to his human state; although the Godstone was later replanted onto him by Morbius The Living Vampire in order to use the Man-Wolf as a pawn against Spider-Man. Some time thereafter, The Man-Wolf was transported to The Other Realm, an extra-dimensional plain from where the Godstone originated. Whist there, Jameson developed greater control over his lycanthropic powers and became a hero.  He came to be known as ‘Stargod’ and had countless adventures battling the evil throughout The Other Realm.  

After finally returning to earth, Jameson took a position as the personal pilot for Captain America as well as The Avengers.  Herein, Jameson became romantically involved with the heroine known as She-Hulk.  He maintained his Man-Wolf powers, but used them sparingly worried that he could become overwhelmed by the savage instincts that take over when in his werewolf form.  

Later, Jamison became a member of The Black Panther’s covert operations group, The Agents of Wakanda.  More recently, he has accepted a job as chief of staff at the mysterious Raevncroft Institute.  

Versions of Captain Jameson have featured in a number of the Sony Pictures Spider-man movies, portrayed by actors Daniel Gillies and Chris O’Hara.  The hero first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1 #1 (1962).

Currently searching for fanfics where Namor is forced to accept that Bucky and Shuri are, and will always be, veryveryclose.  Bucky, meanwhile, is forced to accept that, despite his feelings for the Princess, ultimately he is not the one that is meant to make her happy.

Bonus: also looking for fanfics where Okoye actually grows to respect Agent Ross.  She might even start to feel protective of him.  

Edit: and whenever Attuma shows up, Ross automatically moves to protect Okoye.  It’s a futile gesture, of course, but Okoye has to admit that she is moved by the fact that Ross genuinely cares for her.

The Okoye and Ross pairing is seriously being slept on . They have the chemistry ( that whole scene with the phone number snarky bit), and there's already a Level of trust there, at least from his side judging by his reaction when Okoye saved him from going to prison.
