will always, always be a little sad about the Robin thing. even if he doesn't show it, it was one of the last things he had from his parents, and the fact that it was given away by someone who had no claim to it to someone who had no idea what it meant has got to be damning in the extreme. Out of all the Robins, Damian is the only one he actually got to hand the title down to...you can't not be upset about that.

Is self-sufficient. I know DC editorial loves their "families" and the fans seem to really like the designated groups as well, but nightwing is kind of designed to be self-sufficient in his solo series and it annoys me when the extended batfamily is constantly roped into his comics a la t*m t*ylor. he can fight, hack, investigate and quip, @ dc give him the extended mythos he deserves + allow him to actually develop as a character please

Should always be drawn more short and lithe a la bruno redondo or travis moore; acrobats are more compact less bulky and I like the idea of dick being consistently shorter than kori, donna and roy...I think that's neat. also: fingerstripes (BUT NOT WITH T*M T*YLOR'S STORIES)

anger - but like, justified anger. for all the shit that he's been put through, from being fired to being killed and sent undercover to then getting shot in the head and being abandoned by his "family", I think he should have a healthy amount of anger to stand up for himself. even in the issue where he gets his memory back and bruce and babs try to put him in the suit asap, he gives in way too quickly for it to he healthy. I think he should be allowed to be angry in a way that is seen as justified by an audience (and then be backed up by either his siblings or his teammates - or both)

culture shock/loss - when you move places in the extreme as a kid of around 8 or 9, you tend to assimilate quite quick. dick had to do that extra fast to become Robin, but he didn't have his parents to help him understand and remember his heritage and culture and I'm assuming a lot of it got lost along the way because these things fade over time - especially language. in any case, I think that's something that should be kept in mind when writing him - that he's not a native gothamite and that he had a culture and whole world before this one, and that losing it - ESPECIALLY losing the language, is another thing gone that he can't get back.

+ bonus: I think he should have dimples. I just think he deserves them ♡

17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…

in the last one I talked about how I had specific ideas on Tim Drake's existence within the Batfamily, so that's what I'll do here I think. sorry in advance aiza ;)♡ so. instead of having tim join the batfamily through him insisting that someone put on the Robin suit (and then putting it on himself) i think there should be some kind of interlude between Jason’s death and the next Robin. anyway

post-jason’s death, batman is losing it, right. lost a son to his worst enemy, i believes it’s his fault, is sort of losing his already-tenuous grip on reality because that was his son, his kid, his little boy that he held in his arms and now he’s dead etc etc. So he’s going around beating up people for little things, destroying spines and crushing skulls etc etc and everyone Notices. 

Everyone, including [unnamed-batman-photographer-fanboy] [UBPF] [tim drake]

[and i think it would actually be great if he wasn’t named At All. he remains nameless through this mini-arc because i dont give two fucks about tim if we’re being honest, but i think he would make an excellent plot device.]

anyway, UBPF one day is going about his usual stalkery bullshit and then he slips? falls? whatever. batman saves him and growls at him to go home. [spoiler alert: he doesn’t] he comes back the next night, and batman growls at him again. this happens multiple times, until one day batman is like super beat up or smth and he’s lying on his back in an alley and UBPF appears on the fire escape on above him and he’s like, eating a pb&j or something else smugly childish, and they end up having a conversation about like, batman’s self destructive habits or whatever. eventually the kid goes home and batman is left with lots of Thoughts. the kid comes back multiple times, tries to convince bats a couple of times to let him be robin, but bats is adamant about that NOT happening, so UBPF scowls a bunch and gives up. eventually batman chills the fuck out about beating people into the ground, mostly because there’s like a kid watching him all the time and he doesn’t want to set a bad example. 

they have a few more conversations. the UBPF is usually eating some kind of sandwich or something, kinda like jughead jones but younger and less of a pickme. bats eventually finds out who he is, and threatens to call his parents, so UBPF goes home and doesn’t come back i.e. goes on to live a normal life. His last conversation with batman is like, “well. if I can’t help you, then at least let another mask do it.” he tells batman about the glimpses of a purple mask he caught in the Narrows, and then he heads home, never to be heard from again. 

the mini-arc ends here - the next issue is titled “SPOILER ALERT!” and we resume regular Batman programming from there. 

[UBPF lives a normal life, sees batman on the news a few more times, and then passes on this story of a few weeks onto his kids approx. 20 or so years later, and they go “dad, thats so dumb. batman isn’t real,” and he shrugs.]

ok so. thematically, i think it would make more sense because the whole point of batman was to Save The Children i.e. protect the innocent, right? and the idea of Robin was to be the ‘light’ to batman’s ‘dark’, but since that light was just snuffed out imo it doesn’t make sense to replace it that fast. instead you let an organic friendship between a hero and a child make batman come to his senses that because of his grief he’s no long completing his self-assigned task, and the child is nameless because he represents one of many children in Gotham. he can resemble both dick and jason and also himself because then it’s like, I Do This In Your Memory, Son, but it’s also not disrespectful to jason’s memory, and dick isn’t forced to hand off the memory of his parents without his consent AGAIN, and he’s saving himself through all the children he saves directly and indirectly by no longer cracking open people’s heads. it’s like something adjacent to healing and this version makes my skin crawl less than that whole era of Tim Drake 90s comics.
