I think there's one character who really is underappreciated

MY GIRL AKARI

Seriously, she's Yuma's SISTER. She should have had much more of a role!

Well, I present to you my au's Akari!

I was gonna go for tired relatable big sis for the design, but then i was like "actually no. Screw relatability. Let her be the girl we WANT to be". I got inspiration from pinterest for her clothes. Nothing too fancy because she's always at home, she wears very comfy clothes, but she's smart with her clothes and curated a low effort but very cool wardrobe. Same with her hair; she got it cut to be a style in and of itself rather than having to style it daily.

Also, if you look closely at her necklace and bracelet, you'll see it looks like Don's earrings, and Athena's necklace. Why?

Akari is actually from Astral World.

And so is Yuma. And so is their mother

Except Yuma and Akari are not blood siblings. Yuma isn't Mira's bio son, forget Kazuma's.

The truth is, Mira is actually Ena's sister. She and Akari escaped Astral World way back when Eliphas first was raising his child soldiers, 5 years after Don's expulsion, to be able to destory Barian World and Don (Eliphas could fight Don but could not destroy him). Akari, aged 13, who hadn't been taken unlike Ena and Don's daughter Athena, snuck into the experiment tower to say goodbye to Athena, and passed by a fight in one of the rooms. When she peeked in, she saw Eliphas in a power fight against the youngest of the Astral World Project children: a 5 year old kid just called Astral Number 01, and behind him was a 3 year old he was trying to protect.

Akari acted entirely on impulse and grabbed the 3 year old and rushed to her mother who led her out of the world, and they travelled across the worlds in a strange connecting realm. When they finally reached Earth, just 10 years short of a 1000 had passed, and that was when Mira noticed Akari had basically kidnapped a little kid.

She kept the kid and named him Yuma.

In the current day, Akari can remember exactly what happened. She has dreams of Yuma in danger but not wanting to tell him where they came from, she only forbids him from dueling and doesn't explain beyond "it's dangerous", as she's afraid his dueling energy will attract the attention of Astral World.

Little does she know that the very child who had risked his life to protect Yuma back then is now Yuma's mentor and invisible to all but the one holding The Emperor's Key.

Sometimes I wonder why did Akari take Journalism as a career out of all the other professions

Maybe she was just good at writing events surrounding her, but I like to think there is a deeper meaning behind that. She must have noticed there was so much misinformation being spread and much coverage in the media

One day they were watching TV of a news reporter covering about the sudden disappearence of her father Kazuma Tsukumo since he was a well known adventurer, but of course Dr. Faker's misdeeds are never to be published as well as Mr. Heartland's, they are never investigated properly. Haru and Mirai knew that Dr. Faker was behind it, this prompted her mother Mirai to find the truth for herself only to disappear right afterwards in order to find him in the hopes to bring him back with her one day - this could have been a trigger for Akari, due to all the misinformation and coverage in the mainstream she and Yuma lost her mother, their only parent without knowing anything about the circumstances behind it - her father didn't receive justice and her mother dissapered because of poor reporting - people didn't give much thought either and instead found Kazuma to be a reckless amateur adventurer who lost his life in one of his adventures and made fun of it probably as well, this pissed off everyone in the Tsukumo family

Honest journalism must have become a persuit for her then, she won't be like those corporate journalists serving the purposes of the government, if any news arose of her parents, the truth could not be hidden from her like back then, she's the journalist now.

Yuma kinda feels betrayed by Akari, so he doesn’t really talks to her. Like 1 or 2 words and that’s it

She still is his legal guardian, but she doesn’t stays at the house. 99% of the time she is either at work or stays at her co-workers or friend’s places.
