Anime 2023 review

Now this year has been peak cinema guys!! Here are some of the anime I watched and loved in 2023:

Oshi No ko

Tengoku Daimakyo

Demon Slayer: swordsmiths village arc

Jujutsu kaisen: Shibuya district arc

Zom 100: Bucket list of the dead

My Happy marriage (+manga)

My love story with Yamada kun at lvl 999 (+ manga)

Akatsuki no Yona (+read the entire manga till date!! And still following)

Spy X family: Cruise ship arc (following manga too)

The Apothecary Diaries (manga + light novel also)

Usually when I like the story, and my curiosity gets the best of me (like MaoMao) I check out the manga as well, and when I like it, I start following it as well!

In 2023, Oshi No Ko, Tengoku Daimakyo and the Apothecary Diaries was an absolute gem ❤️🔥 These anime left such a huge impact on me!! I was left hooked for months and I cannot wait for Oshi No Ko season 2!!

Demon Slayer and JJK were alright. Peak cinema, yada yada what everyone says. The animation was no doubt phenomenal, however the story was a bit lacking in these two (but that's just my personal opinion)

Zom 100 was surprisingly good. Its irregular schedule was its downfall, as it reduced all the excitement we had and then it went on an unexpected hiatus...but anyways, it came back on Dec 25 and it was nice. I'll give it a go if they publish season 2.

PEAK SHOUJO

With My Happy Marriage, Yamada kun at lvl 999, and the Apothecary Diaries, this year was carried by Shoujo!! And I haven't watched it yet but "Frieren" I have heard was also an absolute banger!!

Plus there was My Hero Academia and its final war arc TogaChako, Spy X family with Yor and the Cruise ship arc, I felt like the female representation was pretty good this year.

Like hands down these beautiful ladies!!

Ochako, Yor, Yona, MaoMao, Akane (loving Yamada), Ai Hoshino, Ruby, YOU MADE MY YEAR!!!

Fairytail 100 Year Quest was a bit disappointing after its great build up till the Selene arc, let's hope it gets better.

I haven't been able to post in a while cause my MCA exams are going on, but after those are over (on Jan 5) damn sure I'm gonna be posting tons of analysis, predictions and whatnot posts on my blog!!

I'm not crying 😭😭

I... I'm speechless. I always loved this anime and I didn't know why. At first, I thought it was the art style - simple yet so so vibrant, with colors that somehow blended perfectly together yet gave contrast that captured my attention and simply mesmerized me. Then I thought it was the stories - each episode a new tale that was even more heartbreaking than the previous, all a mix of, well, life - everyday life. Then I thought, "Oh the music is so nice and the rhythm perfectly hits on each scene and moment, right when you need to feel it the most."

But after watching this movie I know it's all of the above and more. Violet... The constant search for love, for that small piece of her heart that she knows, despite everything (war, bloodshed, daily stuggles of post-war life...), it's somewhere out there, still beating. The faith that even when pushed away, it's still beating. The growth of one thought to be just a simple weapon to something extraordinary, someone that everyone turns to for help... The underlying depiction of loyalty, love, emotions, feeling... And all neatly tucked away behind the hardships of life, thousands of which we could see today, but all "solved" in such a simple manner... A letter... It got me thinking, we're so fast to dismiss everything, to let it all slide through our fingers. And it's always too late when we become aware of it.

"If I can't say it in words, maybe I can say it in a letter."

This just held so much power to me and I can't explain it (shortly) for dear life!

I don't know, this just made me a mush of everything and despite writing all of this I still don't give the anime nor the movie justice 😅 Just watch it and you'll understand.

Hi! I just finished watching VE and I love it so much. Of course looking for more material I found out it was based on a LN and that you translated it. First of all thank you so much, because it must have been a really tiresome task and doing it for free it's not a thing everyone would be willing to do. Because a read something about it, there will never be a possibility of a physical edition of the LN in english? And has the author said if she's willing to write more in this universe?

Hello! Thank you! It was a huge pleasure to translate it.

I wouldn't say "never", but it's indeed very unlikely. VE's publisher has never published an English version of any of their series, so unless they change this domestic-releases-only mentality, an official English release of VE is just not in the horizon. Even if, by any chance, they do start going for English releases, I think they'd be limited to digital format. The logistics of exporting physical ones simply isn't worth it.

As for writing more, the author hasn't said anything. She might be willing to write short stories and whatnot for events like anniversaries of the novel and/or anime, but the main story is over and there will be no new volumes.

Empty Beauty

Fragmented self

With each step towards perfection, my deformed, undeniable self, vanished with the gentle breeze, carrying both dust and wind. The blades held to my throat scratched me bare, sharpening me into a flawless jewel, until the pieces which once belonged were crushed. All that remains now are the fragments of who I formerly was, the scraps that are wanted, useful. Regardless of what I hold dear.

My naked being is placed in a restraining frame, gleaming in a golden hue. Nevertheless, a prison still remains a prison, even should it possess golden bars.

As though not enough harm was caused, my unrecognizable body is cast towards the inside of a darkness-engulfed casket, this dull four-walled room, embodying my grave, reveals that there is no more beyond that which I have lost.

However, moments before my fate is sealed, a crack of light shows me countless others. Their shape... equal to that of myself, awaiting the same circumstances as I, destined to reflect the will of their owners in their now numb, impeccable bodies.

If only time and space would allow me to stay my rough and flawed existence, buried deeply in natural soil, providing the creatures in my presence with precious nutrients, until I melt into my surroundings and become one with the earth. Everything is I and I am everything.

Instead, I bestow not the warm grassy shade of life and health, but the gruesome green greed of money upon each owner who gives me away, while the blood of the children’s wounded and scarred fingers, trying to grasp me, trying to take me away from my home, splatters on me.

Our true function has an angelic scent, yet what humans have made us to be is an empty, glimmering beauty. By no means am I astonished. What is to be expected of creatures who treat each other like untouched diamonds, they sharpen us and one another to fit into an afore prepared mold, the system, discarding everything important.
