Miraculous Ladybug Rewatch: Riposte

When Adrien fights the new kid at fencing class, she gets akumatized.

Par la fer! For the steel! Friday night's are my fencing nights, so how's that for timing? There is so much wrong with the fencing in this episode, so strap on for some ranting.

Okay, so, before I tear it up, let's say what they did well. The rules of priority and scoring are correct. The foot positions and basic stance are correct. The gear is mostly correct(ish). The various commends a re correct, as is the way Adrien falls the phrase.

And now, on to the bad stuff. According to the script, they're fighting saber. While the guards of the swords are saber guards, they're using them like foils and the positioning of the off arm is a foil stance. Marinette is wearing a foil jacket, which is actually unsafe for saber. In saber, both arms are target area, and not having sleeves could lead to welts and cuts. The scoring equipment is a weird version of epee scoring equipment, but is incorrect for both foil and saber. Anyone who fights like Kagami does with body slams and such, would be thrown from any tournament and possibly barred from returning if she'd done it repeatedly. It was a cool looking fight though, I'll give them that.

There are no second chances in Kagami's family. That's healthy, I'm sure.

Why did everyone think she was a guy? Was her future not obvious? And how did Marinette not recognize Adrien 's voice? No wonder she hasn't figured out he's Chat Noir.

Hawkmoth akumatized Kagami knowing she wants revenge on Adrien. Yeah, he stops her from killing Adrien, but only after she's gotten him in a car accident and he does nothing to keep her from destroying the sarcophagus he's supposed to be hiding in. Fuck you, Gabriel. Look me in the eye and tell me you're doing this for your son.

Great Ladrien moments. I love the mutual blushing when she pulls him in for the swing, but the bit where he threw himself on her and ended up twisting his ankle was fun too.

Hey, they have akuma alters in public buildings. Everyone is so calm during the evacuation. Good on them. I wish there was more in the show about how this superpower bullshit impacts people's daily lives.

Marinette kisses the lid of the sarcophagus with him inside and he blows her a kiss as she runs off. Parallels!

Adrien talks up Marinette in his apology to Kagami. Adorable.

Costumes that I’m interested in making

Not meaning that I will make them all this year. I just wanted a list of stuff I want to make. I do know, however, that I want to push myself some into learning new skills. I will be doing cosplay work streams because I want to enter TwitchCon’s costume contest, and one of the requirements is to stream the progress for a certain amount of hours. I want to do a costume for it that will incorporate more than one of the categories (needlework, FX, armor, larger than life) to better my chances. Has to be a costume to be made just for that. I’m not sure what I’ll make in 2018. It depends on available time, money, and potential groups. Without further ado (and in no particular order)..

Eir Stegalkin - Guild Wars 2

I don’t really play GW2 much anymore, but I still like Eir’s design. I would like to make a Garm to go with her.

Main costume is mostly leather with some scale mail. Would make all the armor pieces out of foam. Would like to hide heels in boot covers to give myself more height. Body stocking underneath for her tattoos.

The wig would require to be partly pulled up into a ponytail and stubbed. The ponytail itself would need batting inside for proper thickness.

Bow and arrow are a must, but more concerned about how to make Garm and him be easy to move around and pose.

Summoner - Final Fantasy XIV

I already know that I want to do the level 50 Summoner equipment with Tyler at some point (him as Dragoon). Kamui has a guide on how to make most of it.

Mostly concerned about the coat. Going to require new sewing skills and lots of applique.

Wig is already done

Aside from the book prop I also want to make a summon: Garuda or Ifrit.

An idea is to do a different equipment set for Twitch’s contest.

Lucina (alt Smash Bros colors) - Fire Emblem Awakening

I really like the pastel purple and pink alt color from Smash 4.

Would require a lot of leather/pleater/vinyl work.

mostly just sewing and a staff

Akuma (devil) Homura - Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Waiting to do this one with a friend so I can have a Madoka.

The dress will be interesting to say the least.. No shoulders, backless dress, train that needs some slight support, and a lining that isn't’ one solid color.

The wing harness is going to be the biggest problem since the dress is backless. Would also like the wings to be articulated. Maybe motorized?

Most difficult thing would probably be the spear.

Military style with a lot of sewing. Trim, different colored lining

Saber Alter - Fate

I just really like the colors of the Alter.

Jeanne d’Arc - Fate

This is pretty but daunting as hell.

Dress should be easy but the armor is detailed.

Wig is different color on the inside and would need structure for the shape. Would probably be the most difficult wig I’ve ever done
