Omg i love this ep so much. It was the absolute perfect way to introduce the new doctor to the show; Matt had some big shoes to fill after David but he did so perfectly in this episode. All of the other doctors I had to get used to, and I especially thought I’d have to following my fav ten, but i immediately fell in love with 11 with this episode. I also feel like this was a great plot overall and I loved both Amy and Rory in it. (@lavenderlace16 )

So. I usually don't post unfinished works. But it's Valentine's Day and I wanted something to show for instead of just reblogging an oldie. So here is the first chapter of Pride and Peasantry! A Pride-and-Prejudice-AU with my two favourite Bored idiots!
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that an unmarried individual in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a companion. This truth is so deeply rooted within the minds of the inhabitants of the small town of Durtshire, that every unmarried individual of some status will, upon their visit of said place, soon find this very attribute of unattatchment - and thus availability - under fierce attack.
And so it was to nobody's surprise that, when word spread that Miss Harwood, a maiden who was said to have five thousand pounds a year, would spend a few months at Playfield Manor, she was seen as fair game for all the good mothers and fathers of the town that wished their offspring well matched. And it was to even less than nobody's surprise that the news of her friend, Mr. Bettjeman, a bachelor of 28 summers and ten thousand pounds a year, traveling with her, was met with even greater delight.
As a consequence, the old Mr. and Mrs. Morrison, residents of Techmoor Hall, pressed their sons to attend the upcoming ball under all circumstances.
The younger brother, Adam Morrison, a very handsome, very jovial young man with luscious black curls and a smile to die for, needed not be asked twice. But the first born, Alan, although he enjoyed the dancing, was less keen.
But the decision was made for them, and only a few days later, Alan and Adam stood in a very well-dressed crowd, eagerly waiting to see the new arrivals. The Morrison brothers were of course not short of fancy clothing themselves and second to really no one in this regard. Adam wore a very pretty frock coat of light fawn, enwrought with fine golden threads. The burgundy frock coat Alan was clad in was less fancy but very classy, and complemented his rosy cheeks charmingly.
At long last, intelligence spread throughout the room that the objects of everyone's curiosity had arrived by means of the page whispering to the kitchen girl how lavish their carriage was, the kitchen girl whispering the same crucial information to one of the maids, and this maid in turn whispering it to another maid while refilling the punch and being overheard by one of the attendants of the ball.
The entire room held its breath as the two strangers entered. And then immediately fell into excited chatter over every single detail that could possibly be observed:
The whiteness of the lady's dress, how it rivaled, but not outshone her beauty, the luxurious quality and the lightness of the fabric, the feathery flow of the skirt…
And of course…the gentleman. Though very soon the entirety of Durtshire's high society would not deem him worthy of the title. But so far he had given them no chance to find any flaws in him, for all they could judge at this present moment was his appearance, and that was, undoubtedly, flawless.
Despite the crowded nature of the room, for but a second, the older Morrison brother felt like a silence had fallen upon them, and he was all alone with a dark angel. For while his companion was entirely dressed in white, Mr. Bettjeman was dressed entirely in black. High riding boots of smooth leather, tight fitting black trousers, a brocade waistcoat, a fine black shirt and a magnificent frock coat of the most lavish black velvet. It was almost unjust how wonderful it looked, despite it being all black, but somehow the different materials took away the monotony that usually comes with single-coloured clothing.
And his features…
Alan did not use the word beautiful lightly. He'd grant his peers to be handsome or pretty, even fair, but rarely beautiful.
But this man…this man and his perfectly defined jawline, his deep blue eyes, his utterly kissable lips with their elegant cupid bow…
This man was beautiful.
But as soon as he opened that perfect little mouth of his, moving those voluptuous lips with grace, it was grace he fell from.
For if he smiled, he smiled with condescension, he spoke only to his friend, and when he did, he called the people around him low, socio-economic peasants - not that he was wrong in his perception, but he should not have said so - and, the gravest crime of them all, he danced only twice, and only with Miss Harwood.
The latter on the other hand was jovial and merry and danced as if nothing could tire her. And much to the Morrison's delight, she danced most of all with Adam.
It was no surprise at all. The younger Morrison brother was exceedingly pretty, with a beaming smile that was simply contagious, and an air of cheerfulness to which no one could compare or resist. He loved to laugh, he loved to dance, and he loved to meet new people. One might say he was born for these kinds of occasions. Meanwhile Alan… The very notion was dreadful to him.
He did enjoy the dances, if he knew and liked his partner, but a room stuffed to the brim with people who's judgemental eyes fell heavily upon him was tiresome at best and torturous at worst.
Therefore, the following exchange between Mr. Bettjeman and Miss Harwood was anything but helpful to lighten his mood:
Miss Harwood left the dancefloor in particularly high spirits, her cheeks glowing with excitement, and pulled the brooding bachelor aside.
“Come, Bettjeman, I must have you dance! I hate to see you standing about by yourself in this stupid manner! You had much better dance!”
“I shall do no such thing! There is not a single man in the room that wouldn’t be a punishment to dance with…”
“A punishment?!” Miss Harwood laughed with the hearty laugh of someone who has just heard the most outrageous thing in the world.
“Dear me, Bettjeman! Never have I met so many pleasant boys as I have this evening! And you cannot possibly deny that several of them are uncommonly pretty.”
“You are dancing with the only handsome man in the room.”, said Mr. Bettjeman, looking at Adam.
“Oh! He is the most beautiful creature I ever beheld! But his older brother is sitting right behind you, who is very pretty, and I dare say, very agreeable.”
Turning around, Mr. Bettjeman looked for a moment at Alan, till catching his eye, he withdrew his own and coldly said: “He is tolerable. But not handsome enough to tempt me. Besides, I have no reason to believe that he is any less a peasant than all the others…”
Miss Harwood briefly looked at him, her mouth agape, but then she turned all her attention back to Adam, who was by far more deserving of it anyway, and Mr. Bettjeman walked away, leaving behind a flustered elder Mr. Morrison.
Tolerable.
Not handsome enough to tempt me.
Peasant!

Okay sleepover questions.
Tell me about 5 of your tumblr crushes and why they’re so amazing to you.
Also, what kind of books do you like to read? Romance? Mystery? And do you have a book you love recommending to people?
to be completely honest i don't really understand the concept of a tumblr crush BUT if this is an opportunity to brag about how amazing my friends are i will happily oblige! i will endeavor to limit myself to only 5 people, and for those of you reading this whom i did NOT mention my sincere apologies and please know that i love you anyway. i am going to list them below a cut and put my book recs first just so this post isn't fifty miles long lol.
let's talk books! i will read just about anything i can get my hands on, but my favorite genres are urban fantasy, mystery, and historical. i don't read a lot of contemporary books that are only romance with nothing else, but i love jane austen and shakespeare. i also ADORE genre-melding, eg the seven deaths of evelyn hardcastle by stuart turton, which is a sci-fi 1920s murder mystery.
my top 7 favorite books of all time- i originally was going to do five but realized i also would recommend 6 and 7 to literally everyone i know- which i would absolutely recommend to everyone, are:
the book thief by markus zusak (historical; coming-of-age of a german girl during wwii as her foster family hides a jewish man in their basement. this book should make you SOB)
the sweetness at the bottom of the pie by alan bradley (historical mystery; 11-year-old aspiring chemist solves murders in 1950s england)
murder on the orient express by agatha christie (historical mystery; a passenger is found dead on a snow-trapped train. basic premise but i am not exaggerating when i say that this book reinvented the murder mystery genre)
six of crows by leigh bardugo (high fantasy heist; six teenagers are recruited to break a chemist out of prison in order to stop- or maybe start- a magical war)
if we were villains by ml rio (mystery; a shakespeare student at a performing arts conservatory is found dead and his classmates try to decide if they want his killer to be caught)
code name verity by elizabeth wein (historical; a spy and a pilot during wwii are sent on a mission that only one returns from. holy SHIT this book is plot-twisty)
good omens by neil gaiman and terry pratchett (urban fantasy; an angel and a demon team up to stop the 11yo antichrist from starting armaggedon)

@tellthemhowihope NINA MY SCIENCE SISTER MY RECENT OVERGRAD LIGHT OF MY LIFE!!! nina is one of the sweetest funniest and most brilliant people i know (she is a scientist!!!) and it always makes my day to exchange doctor who memes, cute animal pictures, and souffle recipes with her. throwback to the time she cut off a foot of her hair on impulse and one of our mutual mutuals thought she cut off her foot... the good old days...
@wespers aka tuser weepers... jamie is one of my oldest mutuals and i am so so grateful she's in my life! she has the market cornered on beautiful pale gifsets, is my go-to for book recs, has excellent opinions on just about everything, and actually gets around to consume all the content i bully her into consuming (see: knives out, hadestown, the book thief...). ily jamie you're not beating the theatre kid allegations any time soon. i am also planning to think of something else to bully you into reading/watching/listening to shortly. what about into the woods have you listened to into the woods before. or little shop of horrors. i think you'd vibe with both of them.
@gracelcdomas is another very old and dear friend and is my murdoch mysteries and knives out buddy for LIFE. milo is one of the most upbeat people i know, and i love chatting to them about just about anything. also am ETERNALLY grateful that they will always send me an ask if i rb an ask game. get yourself friends who will enable you to rant about yourself for fun online.
@jewish-mulder- hi anna! a relatively more recent mutual of mine but one who can always be counted on to have the most correct x-files opinions, and is also a very talented screenwriter! i hope my incoherent x-files liveblog as i watch the show for the first time brings them joy, because i always love reading their little replies to my comments.
and last but certainly not least @anakinskyiwalker, who might actually be my very first mutual? ashlyn has always been such a constant and kind presence in my fandom experience and i adore her to bits.
