Congrats, May, you have been accepted to AL for the role of Poppy Pomfrey (FC: Naomi Watts). Ahhh, May, I am SO excited that you are bringing us Poppy. We so rarely see her played in the RP community, and she’s just such a fascinating character. It’s obvious that you’ve written her before and have such a good grasp on her character as well as how she fits into this world. I’m so excited for my Minerva to have her best pal! Please send in your blog (no sideblogs for first characters, please) in the next 24 hours and be sure to take a look at our new player checklist.Welcome home, we’re so excited to have you join the family!
OOC
name — may
 age — 21
 pronouns — she/her
timezone — GMT+1
activity level — will probably be available for a few hours every day; will very rarely take more than 24hrs to respond any questions? — when do we start?
IC Overview
name — Poppy Pomfrey age — 48
gender — cis-female, she/her
 sexuality — homosexual

patronus — a white swan, which often belongs to a highly emotional owner. unfortunately for her, this description fits poppy particularly well; she is a woman known for her bursts of hysteria and her strong emotional core. in particular, like a maternal swan, poppy’s protectiveness (of friends, family, and patients) borders on frighteningly aggressive — but you’ll get used to it!

boggart — what an outsider might perceive to be a fear of loss is in fact intrinsically linked to a fear of failure; poppy’s boggart is indeed death, but specifically preventable death. in other words, she will see those she cares about in mortal peril, but she is powerless to save them.
IC in depth
personality traits —
+benevolent - above all else, poppy is an intensely kind-hearted individual. though first a healer by family trade and intellectual interest, she nonetheless passionately ties herself to the welfare and safety of her charges.
+intelligent - she might not be minerva mcgonagall in the duelling department, but poppy excelled in all core subjects at school (as well as astronomy and muggle studies) in order to train as a healer. she is often found reading medical journals of the muggle and magical kind in her spare time — and if you call her ‘nurse’, when she is quite aware that a healer is the muggle equivalent of a doctor, she is very likely to show you her extensive knowledge of gruesome hexes.
+perfectionist - though there’s a valid argument for obsessive compulsive tendencies, poppy believes she’s merely a perfectionist. it’s not often problematic, though her excessive tidying and cleaning can become a tad time-consuming for her, and in fact ensures the best possible care for her patients.
+-protective - linked to a desire for regular company, which she sometimes lacks in the hospital wing, poppy is protective of her patients to the point of trapping them in her sights if an ailment stretches beyond the minor kind. nonetheless, she’s soft enough that she might allow the occasional visit, even if they are short and watched with a careful eye.
-aggressive - whilst not perhaps the most natural of fighters, the aforementioned fierce protectiveness goes hand in hand with an aggressive streak. poppy will shout when the safety of a patient is compromised, even if it risks said patient’s hearing. she has no qualms about angrily tackling those who would dare question her, which can cause various problems.
-emotional - some have termed her ‘hysterical’ which, with her muggle medical understanding, poppy deems highly offensive. she is inclined to tearful outbursts, though is usually able to maintain composure if her skills are required — even if she is found to be a sobbing mess shortly after saving a life. students are more likely to see the stoic side of her, which certainly exists in equal measure, but this is her way of maintaining order in her infirmary; besides, she doesn’t find fixing broken bones and the like to be particularly upsetting.
character biography —
born the second daughter of liberal, magical parents, poppy has been surrounded by witchcraft and wizardry her entire life. her mother, a hufflepuff healer, is her antithesis in many ways; perpetually calm and eternally warm, she is a creature of comfort for her own patients, whereas her daughter’s bedside manner tends to have a firmer, anxious edge. poppy’s father, a ravenclaw, is an alchemist of considerable ability and, like his younger child, more of a highly strung, intellectual character. completing the family is violet, a far older sister, who still delights in reminding poppy that she was an (‘unhappy’) accident. being the youngest, by a fairly considerable gap, poppy grew quickly in her youth, taking to her mother’s books and her father’s journals to seek ways to converse with her family without dragging them to her childish level.
sorted into ravenclaw at the age of 11, poppy discovered both age-appropriate friends and an identity of her own, though her love of healing and her passion for potions did not fade in her new verdant home, away from the london smog. she never discarded her maturity even during her earliest years at hogwarts, but she was certainly truer to herself without a family to please so directly. to this day, she credits minerva mcgonagall with the oft bolshy courage she carries around the infirmary.
at 16, poppy was alarmed to realise that boys had begun to notice her. a relatively popular girl, well-presented and quick to help others with their work, she wasn’t entirely surprised at first to spot a few extra faces in her study group. it was minerva, with all her non-existent tact, who leaned over to comment on certain growth around the bust; the illusion that she was being genuinely helpful quickly came crashing down. she knew how it all worked from her books, and even had a niece to coo over during the holidays, but the relationships that stole her free time for a while after that were peculiar and dissatisfying. it was down to minerva once again, aided by alastor moody, to inform poppy that her sexuality was very much up for debate. suddenly her fascination with watching minerva’s frankly dangerous quidditch tricks made an awful lot of sense…
after graduating from hogwarts, poppy trained at st mungo’s under her mother’s watchful eye, choosing to focus her talents on paediatric healing. once again suffocated at home, as well as at work, she grasped the opportunity to fill the post of hogwarts matron with both hands when it was mentioned to her. she has been happily there ever since, largely contentedly alone and perfectly comfortable with a continuous stream of children to mother — without the horrific remnants of labour on her body and memory.
in war, poppy made her association with the order of the phoenix clear to the right people, but never formally joined their ranks. in her mind, as dumbledore agreed, she was better without the recognisable connection. nevertheless, her days spent treating students bled into nights aiding order members in her personal quarters. if she ever has to house mr sirius black, or some other poor soul, in her spare bedroom with a nasty wound again, she is sure she will lose her mind. but, if the darkness comes knocking once more, she will gladly take that risk.
plot ideas —
- poppy absolutely has an unreciprocated crush on minerva, long since weaved with friendship and familial love, which i could certainly see as a point of contention between the two during heated moments.
- entirely open to romantic subplots, but poppy will always focus on her patients first!
extra —
headcanons:
- poppy heads the unofficial ‘ban the house system’ group, which she attempts to force on her colleagues every so often. she is not a fan of the division it creates, nor the rigid expectations, and has never been one to encourage prejudice against slytherin house (or any house, for that matter). this tendency towards prejudice is the one thing she dislikes in minerva.
- likewise, poppy has a small campaign to restrict quidditch players to fourth-years and above. she knows that minerva and the other house heads probably despise her for it, but her good friend’s dangerous school experiences have helped to create this intense loathing.

There are many words to describe Sawyer Scamander but humble isn’t one of them. Being the son of a renowned magizoologist isn’t exactly awe-inspiring, and Sawyer’s confidence is derived from his intelligence, not his last name. Sawyer’s arrogance has gotten him into many altercations, but he has never been in a situation he couldn’t talk himself out of.  “Smart ass” is one of the more popular insults thrown at Sawyer.  He has been known to use his wit to make others look stupid, but there’s no malice in his heart.  He was raised in an affectionate household, where he was always told to speak his mind and to never suppress his feelings.  Because of this, Sawyer is honest to a fault.  If he doesn’t like you, you will be the first to know. If he wants to get in your pants, you will be the first to know!  The self-confidence that was installed in him at a young age has never faltered and subconsciously he does feel like he can get away with things most humble folk wouldn’t dare try.
Those who don’t know him would describe Sawyer as pensive, brooding. These adjectives are justifiable because these assumptions can easily be made upon first glance.  His demeanor has become quite somber and it doesn’t do much for a first impression. However, those curious enough to engage him in conversation will find that he is lighthearted, charismatic and much more cordial than expected. Acceptance seeking is a hobby that Sawyer has never been fond of.  Although he has a well-deserved reputation of being reckless and spontaneous, the calculated decisions that Sawyer does make ALWAYS seem to benefit him.  In fact, if it doesn’t benefit him, Sawyer will have nothing to do with it. He thrives in life’s grey areas and enjoys being a bit of a wild card. His stance on the potential of a “Wizarding War” is this, “Shut up, and keep your mouth shut”.  Sawyer could care less about your blood status, as long as you’re not trying to get over on him. Unless an opportunity presents itself, he doesn’t intend on picking a side. Some people would say that he’s selfish, Sawyer would argue that he’s opportunistic.  Sure, Voldemort’s blood lust doesn’t appeal to him, but it’s not enough for him to risk his own life.  It’s hard for him to care about anything unless he’s personally affected by it.
If Sawyer had a motto, it would be “Laugh Away The Pain”. He is an optimist and wholeheartedly believes that self-pity is meaningless; so you can pocket your sympathy and take your shoulder elsewhere – Sawyer will not be crying on it.  His aloofness can make him almost impossible to read, and because of this he doesn’t really have any close friends.  His mother, Porpentina, is the only person he trusts enough to divulge his insecurities to.
Sawyer is a bartender at several establishments in England, including the Leaky Cauldron and the White Wyvern (a small pub in Knockturn Alley.)  He also sells illegal venoms and other miscellaneous illegal substances for the best price to interest parties. His first love is himself and his second is money.  Sawyer considers himself a professional hustler and will do pretty much anything if the coin is good. His business deals require him to fraternize with Deatheaters and Order members alike. Sawyer doesn’t discriminate as long as you have a few extra Galleons in your pocket. He has developed friendships (primarily business related) with wizards and witches on both sides of the war.  Want some information? Sawyer is likely to have heard something, but he WON’T talk…. not for free, that is.
In short, Sawyer likes Himself, money, and his rambunctious Niffler, Ruse.
He desires his own legal business in Diagon Alley where he can sell useful creature & plant-based products. “…something like an Apothecary, but more extensive.”
He dislikes anything or anyone that gets in the way of his moneymaking ventures.
He fears being a disappointment. He will deny it, but the truth is, Sawyer truly cares about what his parents think of him. He respects and admires his father for his successes and hopes to one day become just as or more successful than him.  His love and talent for the care of magical creatures are traits that were clearly given to him by his father, but the way he chooses/plans to use these traits are vastly different.  He’s just afraid of failure.
Family ties:
Sawyer Oberon is the son of Newton and Porpentina Scamander.  He was born in Dorset, on the countryside where his father retired. Sawyer is an only child who grew up surrounded by magical creatures, and was cherished by his parents who thought the world of their “Sawyer Seed”.  The young Scamander really found himself at Hogwarts, but only after he studied at Ilvermorny for a few years (his mother’s wishes).  It was a difficult transition, but Sawyer blossomed as a young Ravenclaw 4th year.  He was the “new kid”, but he quickly won his peers over with “Scamander Juice”, alcoholic beverages he made from fruits and other materials found in the Forbidden Forest. He would later have to suspend his business when some students reported getting swollen tongues and rashes after drinking his “juice”.
Wanting to make a name for himself, Sawyer moved out of his home following graduation. He is trying to save enough money to open his shop, but it is taking longer than expected.  His mother has offered him his old bedroom and his father wants to fund him, but Sawyer refuses to admit defeat.  Newt says he gets his stubbornness from his mother.
Relationships to other canon characters:
Emmeline Vance: Sawyer bartends with her from time to time at the Leaky Cauldron. He can’t figure her out, but bloody hell is he intrigued.  He’s surprisingly open with her about his goals, and considers her to be more than just an acquaintance – perhaps even a friend.
Severus Snape: Customer. Snape comes to him for materials for his potions on occasion. Sawyer thinks he’s strange, but he isn’t opposed to having casual conversation with him.
Remus John Lupin: Remus has become an intellectual confidante to Sawyer.  They’ve been amicable since Hogwarts, sharing the same library schedule. Now, Sawyer frequents his bookstore and seeks his council for some of his experiments.
Lily Evans: The adorable witch who works at Slugs. Sawyer flirts with her when he prices the materials at Slug and Jiggers Apothecary. He thinks she has a boyfriend, but it’s all in good fun.
Zoey Ollivander: The only person he thinks might be smarter than him, MIGHT BE.  Sawyer has known Zoey since his first year at Hogwarts.  They were both in Ravenclaw and were rivals in the classroom. This heated rivalry eventually blossomed into a friendship, but they still have something of a love/hate relationship. Sawyer has always felt like there may be a bit of romance between them, but has avoided bringing any feelings to light. Honestly, a rejection coming from her would be devastating.
Alastor Moody:  Sawyer always has his ears and eyes open.  Moody wants to know what he knows. For a fair price, Sawyer sometimes shares some information.  He’s Moody’s informant.
Narcissa Black: Sawyer cannot keep his eyes off of this stunning blonde: her confidence, her demeanor.  He wonders if he can get her to notice him.  He sometimes does business with her fiancée and other members of their ilk, but they haven’t developed much of a relationship.
Sirius Black: Drinking buddy. Sawyer and Sirius have been known to close down a pub or two.
Amycus Carrow:  Sure, Sawyer has been kicked out of his club once or twice. That doesn’t mean they can’t do business together.  Amycus also comes to Sawyer for information on occasion.
If you have another character in this RP, how often would they and your OC interact: N/A
In less than ten sentences, please describe the plot you’d like to establish for your character:
Sawyer is in a precarious situation, having both Order and Death Eater associates. It must be handled with care.  It’s a great opportunity, because he is in a position to socialize with all character archetypes and isn’t limited. I’m interested in developing his relationships with both sides, but at some point he must take a position. One day the wrong information could slip out and if it is understood that he is behind it, his life could be in danger. Sawyer must navigate a hazardous terrain, and he’s bold enough to try it.  He gets emotionally attached to a member on both spectrums and must finally take a stand.  Sawyer has been known to hide behind his cleverness (a fast talker), but the truth is revealed when he is challenged to consider someone other than himself.
Writing Sample
School Days…
Sawyer yawned. He was sitting in the Ravenclaw common room with his feet up on the table in front of him, twirling his wand around making blue smoke rings appear in the air. As the smoke floated up and disappeared, he thought about how socially distant he was from the rest of his peers. They were off somewhere snogging girls and making memories and here he was playing with his wand. Over break, Sawyer told himself that he’d try to be more engaging, how quickly had he fallen back into his comfort zone. Being a “part of the crowd” didn’t come so easy to him. At Ilvermorny it was difficult, now it was bloody impossible. It was something he had to make a conscious decision to do and it was, at the end of the day, extremely tiresome. Sure, he’d converse in the library with his peers on occasion, which was the extent of his capacity to perform on a social level.
“What are you reading?” He swung his legs off the table and approached a blonde girl, who he thought was in his year, sitting on the floor by the fireplace.  She interested him because, unlike him, she seemed content with doing nothing at the moment.
“Oh, it’s nothing.” She closed the book, obviously startled by his sudden intrusiveness. Sawyer grinned and sat down next to her. Surely if someone had done this to him he’d be bloody furious, but he really was feeling rather lonely.
“Ah, come on. You’ve been sitting in this exact spot reading that thing every night for weeks now. It must be one hell of book.” He was trying to be as charming as possible but he quickly realized that, instead, he was starting to sound a bit creepy.  The attractive girl turned bright pink and held the book close to her chest.
“I…well, I wasn’t watching you or anything. I –I just happened to notice you, is all. You really looked rather uh, serene.” Sawyer ran a hand through his curly black hair and looked into the fireplace. The fire was dying down but he could still feel the warmth on his face
“I’m Zoey and, if you must know, this is my grandmother’s old diary.”  She held the book up and he realized for the first time how old and tattered it looked. He smiled.
“Sawyer Scamander, pleasure to meet you Zoey.”
Weeks later…
We hope your studies are going well. Don’t eat these until after supper. Share with Ruse.
                                                                        Love Mother and Father
Sawyer rolled his eyes, stuffed a chocolate into his mouth, and handed another to his Niffler. His parents somehow thought he was still an infant. but he did enjoy the sweets they sent each month.  He shoved the letter into his robes and read the prophet as more students entered the Great Hall, most of them yawning or wiping the sleep from their eyes.  Sawyer didn’t usually start his day this early but he wanted to prove Zoey Ollivander wrong.  They were having an argument the night before and she claimed that he wasn’t even responsible enough to feed himself in the morning. It was only a fortunate coincidence that he received a package of chocolates that morning. Zoey was sitting just down from him at the Ravenclaw table.
“Mornin’ love.”  He grinned and winked over at her as he chewed on another treat.  Although it was cheeky, maybe this newfound responsibility would encourage her to finally go out to Hogsmeade with him. This was unlikely because he seemed to irritate her more than he did impress her.  Zoey rolled her eyes and continued reading whatever it was she was reading.
If she only knew how dedicated he was.
  Thank You For Your Consideration

Hey Girlie! I Was Just Kinda Trolling Thru Your Blog And Kinda Wondering What This Whole RP Thing Was About! Is There Any Way To Access Your Guys' Threads To Read Without Being An Official Character Myself? I'm Not Sure If It's For Me, But I'm Very Curious! xoxoxoxoxoxxo
Hi!! Are you talking about Phoenix Oppugno? You can creep through the character blogs here and you can click through the threads that way, just click on the name of the person that was reblogged from etc etc. I think that’s the best way to follow them through. There’s a lot of really cool stuff going on some good threads are the May-December relationship between Mary MacDonald and Alastor Moody, the secret sneaky auror relationship between Kingsley Shacklebolt and Amelia Bones and the blooming relationship between Marlene McKinnon and Emmeline Vance, the torrid three way affair between Amycus Carrow and two OCs, Maya Zabini (my bby) and Cassiel Avery and a ton more. If you have any questions feel free to ask me on here or on the main for PO-I check it at least once a day!
