The Albuca I got as a mate for my surviving one also came with a volunteer Conophytum! No clue which species though.

I’m hoping I can keep the Moraea alive to adulthood since they’re pretty cool! They’re in the iris family and have the showy flowers along with the fun leaves.

Albuca juncifolia

Albuca is a genus of bulbs in the Hyacinth Family (also sometimes classified as the subfamily Scilloideae within the Asparagus Family). Many of the species come from South Africa, including Albuca juncifolia. A closely related genus is Ornithogalum, and some species (such as the "pregnant onion", Ornithogalum bracteatum/Albuca bracteata, have been given names in both genera). In general, Albuca species have 3 spreading tepals (or petals) and three that are cupped in the middle, while in Ornithogalum all six are spreading, but this is not always true. Albuca juncifolia is native to the winter-rainfall area in southwestern South Africa, and it goes dormant in the summer.

As the weather cools down, my albuca spiralis is starting to come out of dormancy. These weird plants live in arid environments of South Africa where they grow leaves when it's cooler and more wet in the winter, then die back during the dry summer. This one looked dead for months.

south African plants with bulbs are so ideal for the depressed houseplant fan. No energy to water for a prolonged amount of time? They just go "Oooh it must be summer, when it's too hot and dry to grow. Time to go dormant and start preparing to flower when the water returns 😊" and go to sleep.
