Stop Making Sense (1984)
I actually started this piece before the announcement, but since the cat’s well and truly out of the bag RE the upcoming A24 4K re-release of the film, there’s never been a better time to share. This drawing started out as a fun, pressure free side project, and eventually spawned an entire side foray you’ll see in the next posts!
I love the textures achieved here with the mixed medium- cardboard really lent itself to the otherworldly structure of the big suit, and the neon pencils provide great contrast to the industrial watercolour.

Here’s to some real-life New Directions! In one of the earliest awards handed out in the 76th Tony Awards telecast on CBS and Paramount+, history was made as Alex Newell became the first-ever openly non-binary actor to win a Tony award, in the Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical category, for their showstopping role as cornpone character Lulu in the musical comedy “Shucked.”
Then, in the show’s final hour, that record was upheld by nonbinary actor J. Harrison Ghee, who won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical in the Marc Shaiman/Scott Wittman tuner “Some Like it Hot”, based on Billy Wilder’s classic 1950s comedy. Ghee, late of musicals such as “Kinky Boots” and “Mrs. Doubtfire”, was a favorite for their bold reimagining of the Jerry/Daphne role made famous by Jack Lemmon in the original film."

CHEVALIER | Official Trailer | Searchlight Pictures
Inspired by the incredible true story of composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. The illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner, Bologne (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) rises to improbable heights in French society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer, complete with an ill-fated love affair and a falling out with Marie Antoinette (Lucy Boynton) and her court.

Dear Santa...
With three weeks until Christmas, here’s my list for Santa: 1. Peace on Earth, goodwill toward men (and women, and the non-binary, too). 2. A 10 percent raise in worldwide IQ. 3. A 20 percent raise in Pittsburgh-wide IQ. 4. A benefit concert performed by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Julian Lennon, and Dhani Harrison. And, Dave Grohl, too. Because, why not?! 5. Alex Trebek’s (now Ken Jennings’) job on Jeopardy! (And a tennis ball gun to fire at contestants who give bonehead responses!) 6. A copy of William Shakespeare’s First Folio. 7. Someone (I'm looking at you, Kenneth Branagh!) to make a good film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet.
8. A franchise quarterback for the New York Jets.
9. A publisher for my novelette Heroes Rise Again. And, for Peter Jackson to turn it into three movies!

Britpop for Beatles People
Good morning and happy Wednesday, my dudes!
In a moment of hyperfixation, I pledged myself to a new project. At first, I created playlist of songs in britpop that reminded me of Beatles music (the link to which is down below). The musicians of britpop drew a lot of inspiration from the Beatles, and they’re the natural sequelae for Beatles fans.
After noticing that certain britpop seemed to pull from certain Beatles periods, however, I widened my breadth. This has brought me to creating “remakes” of the Beatles 11 studio albums + MMT.
Here’s my current problem: there is a LOT of music, and I don’t know all of it. I love Blur and Oasis, but my catalogue is severely lacking in variety, especially in female voices of the time. So, I’m asking for your help!
If you have any songs from 1990-2000ish with a britpop/UK garage rock sound that remind you of a Beatles song or album, please send them my way! I will happily credit you in the playlist descriptions and my eventual article on this.
For the rest of you, happy listening!
