What are your top 10 favorite characters in general? Can be shows or can be movies.

Oh, boy. You putting me in a very hard position here🥴 Clarifying that the names I put are not in order of favoritism or anything, just the ones I could come up with and think at the moment🤪

1.- Wanda Maximoff.

Cause of course how can I not put my favorite witch and one of my comfort character🫡🧎🏻‍♀️

2.- Natasha Romanoff.

Another comfort character🧎🏻‍♀️

3.- Nora Durst.

Cause how can I not add her if she’s one of the greatest characters I’ve seen in my life, I’m in love😮‍💨

4.- Peggy Carter.

She truly became one of my favorite characters that I could actually look up to, and of course a comfort character too🫡

5.- Rosa Diaz.

The episode where she came out, it left a big mark on my life. It somehow changed me and made me so happy, she has always and will always be my favorite character🫶🏻

6.- Casey Novak.

I remember seeing SVU and she was still the A.D.A and I- was in love. Even if I didn’t know at the moment because I was prettyyyy “straight” but I had the biggest crush on her. Still do🫢 Plus her voice? Her whole personality? Yes.

7.- Amanda Rollins.

There was always something about her that just made me love her, the way she was so strong but vulnerable at the same time🫡

8.- Olivia Benson.

The powerful and strong woman that she is, one of my favorite shows and favorite characters since forever🫡

9.- Alex Cabot.

When I rewatched since season 1, I didn’t think I’d like any other attorney since my fave was Casey but then I started season 2 and Alexandra Cabot changed that for me😬 Her whole personality is a mood, Casey and Alex are a power couple😮‍💨

10.- Captain Marvel.

I never cared about the hate she got, since I can remember, I’ve loved Captain Marvel, and when I heard that she was officially entering the MCU, it made me the happiest and that has not changed at all🫡

I rewatched X-men Apocalypse like today and here are my thoughts (keep in mind I barely remember the other movies and have not read a single X-men comics in my entire life. also I am incredibely sleep deprived and english is not my first language)

I don't remember much from first class but I remember I LOVED ALEX. AND THEY KILLED HIM. THEY KILLED MY BABY. (I barely remembered his name but I'm emotionally attached okay)

I also remember Erik and Charles being gay as fuck and it's so funny how hard the writers of this movie try to say "no no they're not gay" but fail miserably

Erik losing his family (AGAIN) killed me tho. he's not even my favorite character but PLEASE give him a happy ending. PLEASE. I could write an essay on why he needs a happy ending.

about Erik's family... I love and hate the "Peter is secretely Erik's son and he has to tell him" storyline. love because I have daddy issues and I love Peter and hate because there's one thing and one thing only I remember from Dark Phoenix and it's that PETER DOES NOT TELL ERIK HE IS HIS SON. IN FACT, PETER ONLY APPEARS IN LIKE THE 20 FIRST MINUTES OF THE MOVIE AND THEN FUCK OFF. I HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE FACT THAT I'LL NEVER SEE THAT DAD REVEAL ON SCREEN AND I DON'T THINK I'LL EVER BE ABLE TO HEAL FROM IT. I'll never recover. "I'm your... I'm here for my family too." will haunt me til the day I die. (Now don't get me wrong I 100% understand why he didn't tell him at that moment and it would have been fine by me IF HE HAD TOLD HIM IN DARK PHOENIX)

why does Pietro Maximoff gets so little respect? in the MCU they kill him in the first movie he appears in and the Fox changes his name and shits on the only storyline he has. why do they hate him?????

still on Erik: did he really need to be the villain again? if I remember correctly he kind of turned bad guy at the end of First Class because he killed the guy who murdered his mom because he couldn't make the coin move and then he was full on bad guy in that one X-men where they went in the past (Days of Future Past according to google) and it made sense because of his past and how he was forced to see violence as the only answer but like... AGAIN? with Apocalypse???? (according to google his name is En Sabah Nur) I get the guy had kind of manipulated his four accomplices into joining him but like... did it have to be Erik??? I get the whole repeating the cycle of violence, but isn't the point to break out of it? it feels kind of repetitive

still on En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse, I would have loved to see more how he manipulated Storm, Magneto, Angel and Psylocke to join him. while Erik had a reason to join back the X-men (he's super gay for Charles), Storm changing sides felt kind out of nowhere???? like we see her hesitate a little but we don't understand why she hesitates now when Apocalypse is fighting for the world he promised and not when he killed people (albeit to protect her but like...) I mean I guess there's the whole hero worship for Ravent but then why did she went with Apocalypse in the first place? Raven is a hero because she showed how mutants could cohabitate with humans, not by destroying them!!!! if Storm admires her, why going against everything she represents???? AND WHY DID THEY ALL WENT "yeah okay still rooting for that guy" WHEN APOCALYPSE WAS EXPLAINING TO CHARLES HOW BIG HIS CONTROL ISSUES WERE

whatever is going on with Hank and Raven... I just... don't like that ship. it made me uncomfortable when I watched First Class, it still makes me uncomfortable.

I remember liking her more in First Class and Days of Future Past tho??? she kind of annoyed me in Apocalypse. like wdym you wanna make child (I think they're children? not Peter but the rest) soldiers???? did the first X-men not teach you anything???? YOU AND HANK ARE LITERALY THE ONLY SURVIVORS OF THAT?

they never give us Storm's name??? or maybe I wasn't paying attention but I'm pretty sure THEY NEVER GIVE US HER ACTUAL NAME??? I guess I could find it if I searched on internet (update: I did, she's called Ororo Munroe, that's so cool) but I'm pretty sure they never say it in the movie???? like they just call her Storm???? DO THEY EVEN CALL HER STORM BECAUSE NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT I DON'T REMEMBER PEOPLE CALLING HER THAT EITHER???? (I have a short attention span tho)

from the little I remember of the 2000's trilogy, my favorite chatacter is Storm and I was so sad she had like so little dialogue. I hope it's better in Dark Phoenix??? I mean I'm not gonna rewatch it because I remember really not liking it the first time but PLEASE I BEG YOU let my girl TALK and have a PERSONALITY

Kurt is adorable. I just want to wrap him in bubble wrap and make sure nothing happens to him ever again.

I like Jean but I really don't care for her whole Phoenix thing. it probably has to do with how many times I've watched X-men 3 when I was younger (too many times) and how much I did not like Dark Phoenix but it bores me. like okay we get it she has that dangerous thing inside of her and it's very destructive and it's going to kill everyone she loves and she's going to have to die to prevent that. we get it. can we move on now? idk it frustrates me that Jean gets to have a movie centered around her not once but twice while both Peter and Ororo (and so many other but they're my favs) can't have basic character development.

I genuinly did not care for Scott. also how did he not get character development when his brother died??? he cried about it 2 seconds and then poof. out of sight out of mind. I wanna know how he gets rid of his grief so easily

I've checked when the other movies take place and... I don't understand... how are they aging... I'm so confused... wtf is that timeline... why is there a movie every 10 year? what is everyone's age ????

do I regret rewatching this movie? yes. yes I do. now I am going to obsess over how they could have handled so many things (notably Peter's daddy issues) so much better and lose all my sleep to fix-it fics.

So I finally saw Black Panther.....

This being the first movie I see after burying a family member that should not have died is..... a choice. And it hit me HARD during the funeral scene in the beginning: the slow-mo shots of Shuri & Ramonda as they look around hit WAYYY deeper than I was prepared for; like yeah funerals are celebrations of life and as you look around at all these happy-ish people who are celebrating your loved one & yeah it feels nice to be surrounded by love and support but you would rather have your person with you and it just be a regular day. And then as they raised his casket & it stopped for a moment and saluted the crowd..... yeah I was done for. And then it faded straight into the silent, Chadwick-only Marvel logo????? Tears

Do I agree with Ramonda's decision after the bridge situation? No. And her rash, emotions-driven actions ultimately [train horn]

ALSO the fact that nobody believed Okoye after the bridge is weird af. The Elders not believing her bc they weren't there...fine, whatever. But QUEEN RAMONDA not believing her after seeing Namor come out of the water???? And speaking to him???? And hearing him say he had a big ass army (granted he never mentioned they were blue lol)???? Out of character tbh. And that ultimately contributed to [train horn] too

I saw some people saying that the nighttime scenes were too dark. I agree, the scenes on the beach in particular were really hard to see

Namor's little joke to Shuri like "the pressure would kill you almost instantly. Your blood would become poison.......or you could wear a suit. Come on, we have some 😊" *chefs kiss*

Also namor had like two little jokes and they fit in with his humor (from the comics) & his character so well 😭

I love that this movie wasn't overly comedic? Yeah there were jokes (mainly from Riri) but it fit within the context of the movie and the plot & it didn't feel like the script took a detour just to tell a joke where there didn't need to be one (looks at the Thor movies)

I also saw some people say that the slow-mo was a little heavy handed; I also agree. We don't need it every time a waterbomb explodes lol

Namor punching M'Baku into 2135 then going about his business was funny tbh

I would love to rewatch this movie in a crowded theater to hear audience reactions bc the two people next to me were WILD lmao

Somebody in the balcony of my theater yelled "I KNEW IT" when some info was revealed during the mid credit scene

I would've opted to stay with namor immediately. Not only because he's fine as hell, but because I too carry rage everywhere with me & I always have time to burn everything to the ground

Namora was setting little fires with Namor's emotional ass & I loved it

The suits Shuri built look like Sonic/blue Knuckles. That's all I saw 🤷🏾‍♀️

I have a feeling Tenoch has a thing for being on his back at a woman's feet bc this isn't the first time we've seen him like this 👀👀👀

Some people said the CGI was a little dodgy? I agree & it was only dodgy in the deep-dive suit & the ships which is wild bc those types of shots have been done so many times in the MCU?? Why did they struggle with it?

Alex Livinalli is *chefs kiss*

Mabel Cadena? Hot, gorgeous, stunning, amazing, incredible, outstanding, talented, never been done before, we love her

The two white people in this movie were largely unnecessary..... especially that white woman. And I have a sneaking suspicion that it wasn't Ryan's idea to include them 🤷🏾‍♀️

Everyone in this move (except the two white people bc they shouldn't have been there) deserves an Oscar IMMEDIATELY bc they were ACTING THEIR ASSES OFF LIKE RENT WAS DUE

I hate to say it but I forgot Nakia was even in the movie until she popped up 😭😭😭

All in all, this was a 10/10 movie for me I will absolutely be seeing it again (hopefully in a more full theater bc there were like 10 of us in mine) and I will be streaming when it drops on Disney+

The Radcliffe Family + Magic Users AU

The thing about the world is that there’s so much that people don’t know, especially when those things are being purposefully hidden from them. One of those things, happens to be magic.

Of course, magic can’t be hidden from everyone, and there are two factions who know about it - the Users and the Hunters. The Users are the ones who wield magic, who can control the wild energies inside themselves and make beautiful things. The Hunters want that to stop. They want to end the line of magic completely and make the world safe again. There’s significantly less danger if certain people can’t use magic for dark purposes.

The Radcliffes are a family of Users. The magic within them has been past down through generations, growing stronger with time. So, when magical prodigy Holden met Agnes, another User with magic even more wild than his own, they got on like fire and gasoline. As the years passed, and their love and power grew, Hunters started to take notice.

Outrunning Hunters isn’t hard, not when they’d both been doing it since they were teenagers, and it’s made even easier when they have someone to run with. It’s when they had a baby, and then a growing child into the mix that it really gets difficult. Because then it’s not only their lives on the line, but Leo’s, too.

Years continued to pass, and the Radcliffe family was able to settle down again. For a while, their lives were as normal as they could be with the magic running through their veins, with normal jobs and normal school and people around them didn’t suspect a thing. But their normal life couldn’t last forever, and all at once, that perfect fantasy they’d let themselves fall into shattered - Leo’s magic was growing too fast, bringing Hunters to the area and disturbing the quiet town around them.

And, really, between the magical prodigy living right under the noses of the innocent and the armies that were gathering to find him to prevent an ancient prophesy from coming true, magic couldn’t stay a secret forever.

Three ship: okay three is not a lot lmao there's so much to choose from! I had to narrow it down a lot, but these are my top three ships currently: malex (Michael/Alex from Roswell New Mexico, aka the ship that I cannot stop thinking about), avalance (Ava/Sara from legends of tomorrow, aka the best time co-captains/moms), and malec (Magnus/Alex from Shadowhunters, both books and TV show, one of the first ships I've created content for)

First ever ship: I'd say my first ship probably was Tag/Eloise from foot2rue (a French/Italian cartoon that I was obsessed with growing up), but I didn't really know what shipping was back then. The ship that started my whole fandom experience was Harry/Ginny, so I guess they probably were my first ship

Last song: as I'm writing this I'm listening to 2019 by Pomme (while also procrastinating my revisions 😅)

Last movie: I don't really watch movies very often, so I probably haven't seen any since No Way Home at the cinema

Currently reading: Good Omens by Neil Gaiman, I bought it as Christmas present to myself and I am loving it!

Currently watching: way to many shows for someone who is supposed to study. But more precisely, New Girl (thanks to @unbearable22), legends of tomorrow, 911/ lone star, peacemaker, euphoria, 4400, station 19, daredevil (and the rest of Netflix MCU as a rewatch)... 😅

Currently consumming: last meal I ate was poached eggs with mash potatoes and some andives (yes Im procrastinating by making fancy dishes 😂)

Currently craving: sleep, good grades of my exam, and to finish my pile of wips

Just watched the new Spiderman movie - spoilers under the cut

- Fun movie, very fanservicey, but I wouldn’t call it great.

- Into the Spiderverse was better. A not dissimilar story, but really, it can’t compare to to Into the Spiderverse.

- Yes, surprising absolutely no-one, all three Spidermens are in it.

- The homoerotic tension between Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield was off the charts. If you thought Loki/Sylvie were the only forays into shipping the character with an alternate version of themselves, you have nothing on two Peter Parkers just gazing lovingly on each other, the discussion of web shooters, the weird back thing they were doing, and the rest.

- The two of them did kind of steal the show.

- The rest of it was rewriting the endings of their movies to give them a happier ending, saving everyone in the process.

- Honestly, the callbacks were just top notch. All the villains reprising their roles, telling their story, pouring their heart and soul into it.

- And Daredevil was in it! Two seconds cameo, but the movie theater lost its mind seeing him. I’m right in the middle of rewatching the show, so it was a double treat.

- And Eddie. I kept waiting for him. He did show up in mid-credits, just getting his mind blown, that was so hilarious. Alas, he is gone just as soon as he comes in, he is back in his universe, but not before leaving a symbiote offspring behind... Alas, Tom Hardy was not long for his MCU debult... (but I do hope we’ll get more of his Venom)

So, these are the positives. Now onto the rest.

- The first third of the movie is just... second hand embarrassment. So much second hand embarrassment.

- So, uh Dr. Strange is 100% at fault. He can blame Peter all he likes, but he was the one who rushed into the universe breaking spell, without discussing how it would affect the person at the center of his spell.

- Not to give too much credit to JJ Jameson emulating Alex Jones (a fantastic performance), but Tom Holland’s Spiderman really is a menace. I recently rewatched the first two movies, and it struck me just how much of the death and destruction really is his fault. And this movie is no exception.

- They Uncle Ben’d Aunt May. I mean, I get it, sure, but it’s still a bit...

- The end credit scene is more of a trailer than a random teaser.

My Top 10 Ships of 2020

It's been a weird year but I've seen other people doing this. Plus this year I've been way more into gen fics (love a bit of found family especially in clone wars and marvel) than anything shippy. So I genuinely don't know what imma put on here aside from two ships for sure. Sorry this post is super long idk how to do the below the cut thing and I've had this app for 5 years...

10) Viktor Nikiforov and Yuuri Katsuki - Yuri!!! On Ice

It was a real toss up between this, supercorp, kanera and wolfstar cos they're all very integral ships to my fan heart but this son because of the Yuri on Ice fandom's rebirth this year. I've never stopped shipping this, never stopped reading fanfic of them for any extended period of time, they're still my most bookmarked ship on ao3 (although I think now star wars - all media types may have overtaken them for fandom). They were one of the first things I watched where the queer ship I loved became canon and I can't wait for the film (and hopefully someday a season 2). Heck I even made my mum watch Yuri on Ice with me so I think that says it all.

9) Edelgard Von Hresvelg and female Byleth - Fire Emblem: Three Houses

My first fire emblem game was fates when I was like 14 (and finally gay awake lol). I was so disappointed that I had to be with a guy character because the only female option was kinda creepy and also I wouldn't get the character of kana. So when three houses came out I was so happy because finally there were beautiful incredible female characters my female byleth could romance (I'm so sorry mlm you deserved so much more than you got). I got the game as soon as it came out (had to search a lot of shops let me tell you) and started on black eagles. I was actually kinda disappointed back in 2019. I didn't like the explore the monastery bit (still find it kinda tedious) and the battle mechanics weren't quite the same as fates (no pairing up?! Aka my main battle technique for protecting the weaker units). So I got like 20 hours in and put it down. Came back to it in lockdown and finally finished it! I'm so proud of myself I virtually never finish games. And I fully fell in love with the useless lesbian edelgard in the process. When I started back playing in 2020 I was like eh I wish I'd picked a different character to romance (like shes an emperor that's morally very shady) but then the romance stuff started with edelgard and I fell the heck in love.

8) Cory Matthews and Shawn Hunter (and Topanga Lawrence) - Boy Meets World

Disney+ was released in the UK this year and I finally got the opportunity to watch boy meets world in its best quality (aka not on YouTube). I watched it back when I was like 12 or 13 and it's such a nostalgic show for me. Watching it again I still absolutely adore it (and my bi ass was low-key crushing on Shawn especially in chick like me - I'm 18 btw and I got so scared for a sec but rider strong was 18 when chick like me came out so it's fine woah). And of course now I see the possibilities of the beautiful Cory and Shawn relationship like they were so bromance it was basically romance and throw in topanga it's the perfect ot3 (but I'm also fine with just Cory and Shawn or just Cory and Topanga). Read some good fanfic for them this year. My favourite was one about Shawn stealing makeup and stuff and exploring gender (need more fics like this I'm biiii).

7) Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes - Marvel Cinematic Universe

I rewatched all the MCU films this year too. And got really into Peter parker whump and irondad. Plus my eternal obsession with identity and relationship reveals of course led me from Spiderman identity reveals (and found family cuteness) to stucky coming out. Especially when it involves the internet and social media. Not my favourite ship but it's been significant to my year due to the sheer amount of marvel stuff I've read.

6) Satine Kryze and Obi Wan Kenobi - Star Wars

I rewatched clone wars in prep for season 7 and wow Satine's death was sad and sudden. She first appeared in S2 E13 I think and just the sheer sexual tension of their bickering. "The sarcasm of a soldier. The delusion of a dreamer." Just ugnnhhh my bi ass can't take much more of this. And Anakin just sipping his wine in the background grinning. And I fully believe korkie is a Kenobi.

5) Commander Cody and Obi Wan Kenobi - Star Wars

I am very much an Obi wan multishipper. I don't really have a favourite but I fully believe he was with satine and Quinlan in his life. I don't think be would've actually done anything with Cody because of the whole superior officer thing. And this probably isn't even my favourite Obi wan ship - that honour probably goes to quinobi or obitine. However the most popular ships in the fandom are codywan, quiobi and obikin. No offence to anyone who ships these they're just personally not to my taste, but I can't stand quiobi, and obikin I find only slightly more tolerable and I think that's just because there's so much obikin content so if I like the concept of a fic that happens to be obikin I'll read it. I'm just not a fan of the mentor/student relationships. So I generally favoured the codywan fics when there was shipping involved meaning I read a lot of them this year. Needed that nice fix it content post season 7.

4) Zuko and Katara - Avatar: the Last Airbender

Again I am a multishipper I have nothing against zukka it's cute. But I'm a zutara shipper first and foremost because when I first watched avatar I was like 13 and denying my gayness and gayness in general so I shipped the straight things and the straight things only. Most of these ships I stopped shipping - dramione, spuffy, some my little pony ones which we don't talk about. Zutara stayed. (I have nothing against any of the things I used to ship I just stopped shipping them so much/shipped new things more). I've continuously shipped zutara since I first watched avatar even if I didn't necessarily spend that much time on it it has always been here as one of my favourite ships. It has such good fanfic I swear including my favourite ever fanfic from any fandom - love thy enemy. Plus like the black games (reread this for the millionth time this year), a delicate subterfuge (which I read for the first time this year and damn it's so good) and so many more. With the avatar resurgence this year I haven't actually rewatched avatar aside from my normal random episode every now and then when I feel like it. But there's been a lot of avatar on my dash from people I follow getting into it and people I followed for avatar returning so naturally I returned to the fandom and read quite a lot of fanfic. I also read just a lot of avatar gen fics which were great at the whole found family thing I've been so obsessed with this year.

3) Catra and Adora - She Ra and the Princesses of Power

Catradora is canon! They kissed! What more is there to say. Arguably they should've been top but I never shipped them that much since I was always very much a multishipper when it came to she ra so yes I was very happy it became canon because we actually won for once but also I've never read much fanfic for them etc. But they are very much a dynamic I love and watching she ra all again in prep for season 5 I really enjoyed the build up of their relationship. The other two only go above because Buffy is my favourite show ever and damn there's some good fuffy fanfic and Aphra and Tolvan is both fresh in my mind and star wars owns me. Would love some catradora fic recs btw if anyone has them tho.

2) Buffy Summers and Faith Lehane - Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I didn't realise it was last year that I got super into them but according to my ao3 bookmarks it was lol. 2020 I swear it's lasted an eternity. I got into them about a month before lockdown (which feels like another lifetime). I've loved Buffy since I first watched it when I was 13. It's arguably still my favourite TV show. I've been through a lot of ships for Buffy - bangel to spuffy and now fuffy. I still think angel and her were a beautiful ship back in season 2 and especially in the angel episode I will remember you. But faith and Buffy had so much chemistry in season 3 - she would've been a fresh start for Buffy and the amount of fix it fics I read I swear. My favourite has to be one where they met in LA during Anne and how that changed everything feat Buffy's internal homophobia.

1) Cheili Lona Aphra and Magna Tolvan - Star Wars

I read Darth Vader (2015) and Doctor Aphra (2016) for the first time at the end of 2020 (got a comic subscription which has served me very well already I've nearly finished the star wars canon comics). Just to see canon queer ladies in star wars was so magical for me as a queer lady. I didn't think star wars would be so overt yet as to have a queer kiss in canon (even if it's in the comics) and especially not with the main character of arguably their main comic series. Now we just gotta hope that we'll get it in live action someday soon. They weren't the ship I consumed the most content of in 2020 but they were the highlight of my 2020 because star wars did that and I finally found out about it

(Those last four are ones I've shipped forever some of my og ships but nothing particularly big has happened for me this year with them so)

I got Disney+ this year so rewatched a fair few things from my youth and though hey my obsession with that character may have been a little gay.

Is it just me or was Buck’s “Love you too.” way less enthusiastic than Taylor’s? It kind of seemed like something someone would say when they don’t not want to say it back but are also not really feeling it. I feel like the response to the first “I love you” should at least be “I love you too” not saying it like you would to a friend or a family member.

Or am I just blinded by my buddie shipping goggles?

I rewatched Buck Begins yesterday. I just saw some post about skateboards on Instagram. My brain made a connection and thought: “Buck used to be a Skater Boy.” That of course lead to humming “Sk8er Boi” and then that reminded me of the fact that Ryan Guzman was in the Step Up movies and then my brain blue screened for a few seconds thinking about a Buddie Sk8er Boi AU.

And then I had to share the thought with the Internet 😅

You know, in season two I want a scene where Julie wears her Mom’s Sunset Curve t-shirt and the boys are very surprised and confused about where she got it. And that’s how they finally figure out they met Julie’s mom the night they died.

Also Luke would probably melt seeing Julie in a Sunset Curve shirt. And Reggie has to pipe up saying it’s size beautiful please.

Netflix honestly publishes a ghost movie (Afterlife of the Party) almost exactly a year after Julie and the Phantoms came out but they still can’t be bothered to renew Jatp or at least let fans know if they are planing to renew it? WTF @netflix?

I am SO MAD there isn't more Shus content. I really liked Phsyc as a kid, just started rewatching it. Within the first episode I was like hell yes childhood best friends to lovers I ship this so hard! And then I found out it's a rare pair bc fandom is racist. Also JRR is half Mexican, and i guess bc he passes it's never addressed in the show and both his parents are played by white actors? How cool would it have been to have had half Mexican Shawn? Idk I'm only on S2, I would love your thoughts

yUp :) you’re 100% correct my dude.

(1) i get the concept of wanting to make a show about platonic love and childhood best friends, like it’s a great idea and i’m here for it and more shows should focus on these kinds of aspects instead of your basic forced romantic love story. but the thing is, if this is what they were aiming for, they... just didn’t do it well.

there’s a difference between friendship love and ... what shawn and gus have. (like obviously they have that too but it goes beyond that as well). if psych wanted to make a show about best friends, they really should’ve toned down the codependency, obsessive jealousy, gay jokes, etc. because, from my experience, that’s just not what a friendship is like.

storytime that no one asked for: i met my best friend when we were 3 and she’s been my best friend for 16 years. we went to the same elementary, middle, and high school together, just like shawn and gus. we’ve always been super close. but we don’t act like shawn and gus.

shawn and gus are each other’s only friend. they spend 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year together. they walk next to each other with their bodies pressed together. they touch each other longingly for no reason. they’re constantly just like... gazing lovingly at each other. they joke about dating each other. people constantly mistake them for a couple.

there’s a difference between regular long time best friends, and what shawn and gus are. look at any other tv show with best friends - jess & cece (new girl), alex & mer (greys), ross & chandler (friends). THOSE are best friend relationships. that’s how me and my best friend are.

but shawn and gus are so much more than that. gus knows everything there is to know about what makes shawn spencer, Shawn Spencer. he’s literally the only person shawn lets himself be real around. he’s the only one who can see past shawn’s facade. the only person who has been there since the beginning and has first-hand knowledge & experience of all of shawns trauma. he’s the only person shawn really lets himself open up to. not to mention the fact that gus is the only one who is never, and has never, been deceived by shawn, whether in regards to shawns emotions or his “psychic-ness.” all of shawns love interests are kept in the dark. but gus knows the ins and outs of shawns personality - his biggest secrets and deepest fears. he’s the only person that’s been a constant presence in shawns life. he’s the only person shawn keeps coming back to. gus is the one who claimed shawn on his taxes. gus is the one who shawn can’t ever fathom not being in his life.

i know what best friends are and what they feel for each other. and this is SO much more than that.

here's a second story you didn’t want to hear: i met my other best friend senior year of high school. let me tell you - that relationship was so much different than what i have with my childhood best friend. we would go everywhere together and do everything together. people constantly mistook us for a couple. i talked about her constantly and she was the first person i would ever want to talk to if something happened. it didn’t mean i loved my other friends any less, but it was just such a different relationship. we were exactly like shawn and gus. down to the details almost.

and yes, you guessed it. i eventually fell in love with her. and when i told my other friends, they had already known before i did.

maybe you have to have first-hand experience of situations like these, but its really obvious to me that shawn and gus’s friendship is completely the same as me and my friend from high school, and not at all like me and my childhood best friend.

because, to me, you shouldn’t have extreme, unhealthy jealousy of the person your friend is dating. you shouldn’t be upset when they start dating someone. you shouldn’t sabotage their relationships because you don’t want to share them. and, obviously, i’m not saying this is healthy in any respect, even if you’re in love with someone, you gotta have boundaries, but. like. this definitely isn't something you do with a normal best friend. i don’t know about you, but i wouldn't propose to someone else and include my best friend in the proposal.

i don’t really know how to explain it, other than, you can’t really understand the difference between a regular best friend, and something that’s just so much more than that, that you end up falling in love with them, unless you experience it yourself. those little touches, glances, half-assed “date me” jokes, mean something. if you know, you know.

i guess what i’m trying to say is that, if psych wanted a show about best friends, then they didn’t achieve that.

because what they gave us was a story about childhood best friends falling in love, and never doing anything about it because they’re too afraid to risk their friendship.

and, maybe, if the show had been made now, they wouldn’t have been as scared to have a main queer couple in a show. maybe they wouldn’t have forced the only woman character with the main guy, just so they didn't have to deal with admitting the fact that shawn and gus belong together.

if they wanted the main love story to be between jules and shawn, then they shouldn’t have written shawn and gus with so much chemistry.

and even if i’m wrong about all this, if my idea of friendship isn’t correct, and shawn and gus are “normal,” then at the very least, it was a missed opportunity. a chance to have a queer interracial couple as the main part of a show. it was something we deserved.

(2) again, you’re correct. people go ape shit for “best friends to lovers” and “partners to lovers” and mutual pining, and all the other tropes shawn and gus embody. but, make a black guy a part of a ship, and all of the sudden, people say “hm.. i just can’t see them as anything more than friends :)”. because people can’t comprehend black people as rounded, fully developed people who deserve love. i can’t find it atm, but there’s this really good post that talks a lot about this (in regards to mcu, but still stands).

(3) again, you took the words right out of my mouth. there’s an interview with james where he explains why he’s only played white characters in the past.

in summation, shawn and gus are in love, psych fandom hates black people, hollywood is racist, and we deserved more from psych :)
