Art Nouveau Fashion Gowns in tulle and pink silk velvet from The Alexandre Vassiliev Foundation, circa 1910-1915

The layering of fabrics and textures is typical of ca. 1910 fashion. Delicate, sheer tulle mutes the lush cyclamen pink silk velvet. The circular and floral lace applied to the tulle appears to be an earlier 19th century lace – possibly from the 1860s. The final layer of lace is a lush metallic lace, which adds visual weight to the hem and borders, and carries out the progression of textures from light to heavy. (x)

Blue striped silk ball dress with boat neckline, short wide gathered sleeves trimmed with ivory pleated tulle ribbon. Gown with blue silk satin waistband (with embroidered ivory spikelets) with a brass buckle (covered with floral enamel), maxi length skirt (knife pleated on the top at the front and tightly gathered in back).

The #fashionmuseum in #Riga - the only #Fashion #Museum in the Baltics. The #Fashion Museum is located in the Old Riga, not far from the Blackheads House. The building dates from Soviet times, but the oldest parts of the walls of the basement have survived since the late 14th century. This is where the Fashion Museum is located now. The museum is collaborating with the Foundation of Alexandre Vassiliev, whose collection of clothes is recognized as one of the most significant private collections of costume in the world. The #exhibitions change every six months. The “The Secrets of the East. Western Fashion and China” exhibition is being held from the end of April until the end of October this year. The exhibition comprises the collection of Alexandre Vassiliev and is devoted to the centuries-old influence of #China on European clothes and interiors. Visitors can: - try on Chinese traditional wedding costume; - get the future prediction from the ancient Chinese “Book of Changes” (I Ching); - learn more about the Chinese zodiac and be given their own personal horoscope/zodiac chart; - try the art of Chinese calligraphy. The exhibition is complemented by unique video and audio materials. There is also an audioguide in Latvian, English and Russian.
