Jacobson's Basic algebra 1 gives such a nice argument for why algebraic numbers have minimum polymials, making it a corollary of the fact that polynomial rings over fields are principal ideal domains. Consider a field extension E/F (i.e. a field E that contains a field F). For any u ∈ E we have in E the subring F[u] and the subfield F(u). These are defined as the smallest subring and subfield of E respectively that contain both F and u. If E = F(u) for some u ∈ E, then E/F is called a simple field extension.
Let F(u)/F be an arbitrary simple field extension. Consider the polynomial ring F[X]. By the universal property of polynomial rings (which is essentially what one means when they say that X is an indeterminate), there is a unique ring homomorphism F[X] -> F(u) that sends any a ∈ F to itself and that sends X to u (you can think of this homomorphism as evaluation of a polynomial at u). If the kernel of this homomorphism is the zero ideal, then F[u] is isomorphic to F[X], so u is transcendental over F. If the kernel is non-zero, then by definition there are non-zero polynomials p ∈ F[X] such that p(u) = 0 in F(u), so u is algebraic over F. Because F[X] is a principal ideal domain, there is a polynomial p that generates the kernel. In other words, p divides all polynomials q such that q(u) = 0 in F(u). Two polynomials (over a field) generate the same ideal if and only if they differ by a constant factor, so there is a unique monic minimum polynomial in F[X] for u.

12.21.23~ Finished topic 1.2 for linear algebra, and have about 3 more problems to do for the practice section. Some of what I learned today: 1. A coefficient matrix includes only variables and their coefficients, but an augmented matrix includes the values to the system as well + 2. A basic variable is associate with a pivot, all other variables are free + 3. In a system where variables are free, there are infinite solutions + 4. Row reduce from left to right and find pivots in REF (row echelon form) + 5. RREF (row reduced echelon form) is used to solve a linear system in its entirety, especially if free variables are a concern + 6. Inconsistent: 0 solutions / Consistent: at least 1 solution / Consistent and unique: 1 solution
I also made chai with milk for the first time (my mom usually uses water) and it was nice; next time I'll ratio it to 2/3 water 1/3 milk instead of the opposite

Mathematical Methods
Tumblr media
Mathematical Methods is a Maths course in Australia commonly taken in the last two years of secondary school.
It is the equivalent to taking AP Calculus AB in America. In the UK, A-Levels Mathematics (*) goes a little more in depth than Methods.
Here are a few techniques that should help gain one’s understanding in Methods.
Algebraic methods
How to *not* use long division
Understanding quadratics
The quadratic formula
//
Addendum: 10 March 2024
*Math Methods should be equivalent to Edexcel A-Level Pure Maths (no proofs, sequences and series, parametric equations, modulus, and reciprocal trig) and Statistics 3.

My new fancy Etsy link! https://leahcmath.etsy.com
Hi! I'm Leah, a second year math PhD student. On my Etsy I have study guides for Calc 1 (same class as AP calc AB) and Algebra 1 (same class as college algebra) as well as a full note set for Calc 1 (using James Stewart, so perfectly in line with the AP curriculum). I am also working on a full set of notes for Algebra 1, but I haven't finished that yet.
I also sell sheet music for some of my compositions, though it's mainly the math notes I'm advertising here.
Etsy tells me if you use this link instead of the links I posted before, good things will happen. I think the good things happen to me, not you, but you still get cheap math notes and that's still good! Plus a tip, if you fave an item of mine or leave it in your cart, Etsy will email you like a week later with a discount.
Anyway, use this link instead of the ones I posted previously! :)

This user was in hyper productive mode today
Am feeling so satisfied and happy that i have completed some task today like for me this is a super hyper productive mode after a very long time ..😅
Task completed
linear Algebra 5.1,5.3,3.3
Probability regression, law of addition , conditional probability ,solved some exercise question
Mobile computing week6 ,week8
Ps: My first final is of Mc but i am taking it slowly becoz i know all the stuff and the theory slides contain like nothing as i know everything from code prespective so i will just go through slides and just read them the main reason is that it has only 2 credit hours and my prof give equal grades to everyone so for like wasting time its better that i will go through the subject which has 3 credit hours so for now i need to go through linear algebra ,prob and db.....

Ok, time to try this!
50 notes and I work harder to study Arabic
100 notes and I start reaching out to people more
150 notes and I make an Undertale Au
200 notes and I make a blog for that Au
250 notes I learn algebra and don’t just rely on mental math
I plan on doing most of these anyways but extra motivation is always awesome!
