I'm kinda curious: what did you think of the "Alien X-Tinction" special and the appearances by the older versions of Ben? I really liked how they put an emphasis on Alien Force's version of Ben, personally, since that's my favorite version of the character.

I actually wrote a review/analysis of Alien X-Tinction back when it first aired, but I will repeat that one of my favorite things about the writing was that they remained faithful to the original writing of the character throughout those parts of the series. AF and UA Ben were particularly apparent to me in the slight differences in the way they wrote his personality.

Anyway I loved the appearances of the older versions of Ben and this was probably my fave scene <3 how can you not love the return of this attitude

In a world where Alien X-tinction had a much bigger budget and the alternative Bens (and Gwen) had an extra alien each, I’d have them use:

OS Ben: OG Heatblast and Wildmutt

Seeing that this special was used to show off aliens that didn’t get to appear otherwise, Wildmutt makes the most sense to reappear. At first I thought Cannonbolt, but I’d rather not have both of OS Ben’s aliens overlap with Reboot Ben’s.

AF Ben: Chromastone, Big Chill, and Echo Echo

I’m actually satisfied with the two aliens AF Ben uses, but I think letting him use Echo Echo for a moment would be the perfect set up for him to be outdone by…

UA Ben: AmpFibian and Ultimate Echo Echo

I absolutely get not using an Ultimate form do to potential complications. However you can’t really separate the Ultimate gimmick from Ultimate Alien. Plus I like the potential interactions that showing off the evolution function could bring. And personally Ultimate Echo Echo is my favorite Ultimate Form.

OV Ben: Bloxx and Feedback

While I could also see someone like Gravattack or Astrodactyl, I simply think Feedback is the best alien to represent Omniverse.

Gwen 10: Ripjaws and Diamondhead

Diamondhead is the only transformation to appear in both the Original Series episode and the Gwen 10 we see in Omniverse. Making it her most iconic alien in my opinion.

The Ben 10 Reboot specials are like the embodiment of almost being interesting. There’s these intentional nuggets of potential but they fall so flat in execution. Alien X-tinction is the worst offender.

Side note: evil Celestialsapien is a cool idea, and I like that this one is taking a "hands on" approach. It's about the thrill of the hunt :) And loving making people suffer

It's a small thing and it only lasts a second, but in the Classic continuity, Ben only cried on screen TWICE, both when he was 10. Letting an aged man hurt like this without making a joke about it is good to see <3

Hm. I kinda like this angle with Ben's frustration. He feels like he's not living up to his full potential as a hero because he always has Gwen and Max helping him. It's different from when Ben would get cocky in the OG, and I think it's an interesting point, too :p This blatantly isn't about being a hero, it's about the thrill, which is something that ten-year-old Ben consistently struggled with

Still hate reboot Heatblast, but whatever

I definitely don't like how the fights are animated? It feels... slow. And I get part of that is to build up suspense/show of Alien X's abilities, since this show is aimed at a younger audience who wouldn't be familiar with the Classic continuity, but still :/ I don't like the flat camera angles and the hits don't have a lot of weight to them

Love that Alien X is killing off Ben's, though — something Eon was always too pussy to do

I hate this art style, but I appreciate that the writers are trying

I love villains who are obsessed with Ben Killing him, hunting him down, whatever. Watching villains shove aside whatever or whoever gets in their way to pursue Ben with single-minded fervor always hits good.

This fight between Ben and Alien X, up until he loses the Omnitrix, is probably my favorite fight in the special. Alien X was at his coolest and Ben really gave it his all, no matter how badly he got beat in return.

Okay, just finished it. Final thoughts? It was really cute. Is it good enough to get me to watch the rest of the reboot? No. It's definitely not as hype as some of UAF/OV's high points, probably in part because I still can't get into the art style and also because the fight scenes just aren't as good.

It had pretty good pacing! I was surprised by that, I thought 45 minutes was gonna be too short, but it ended up feeling right. (Also, I'm upset to say that Max's voice grew on me. Gwen is on thin ice.)

You can tell that this was made with a lot of love, both for the characters and for Ben 10 as a whole. It really does feel like a love letter to the fandom, and for that, it was a good watch :)

Final score: 7/10, not NEARLY as bad as I was expecting, worth a rewatch <3

I tried to watch Ben 10 reboot

And at first I was like "well, that looks funny, some different stories, but that's funny"

I watched first season somewhat normally, but I skipped a lot of episodes, cause I wanted some plot

I haven't got one

So I just watched specials

Still bad

The Ben 10010 was meh, but I liked the chubby adult ben (fuck those who made him skinny at the end again) and I liked how villains became part of the government

Hated the fact that GWEN DOESN'T HAVE MAGIC

The Ben gen was nice actually though I would love if Rex became part of the team and traveled with them

Some mixed feelings about alien x tinction

Cause they shouldn't have made the main "villain" a CELESTIALSAPIAN

like... alian x is almost a God and could be beaten only by another celestialsapian as we seen at the trial in omniverse

Also alian x controlled by three minds who need to all agree just to move a finger. That was until the trial in omniverse. And Ben who turned "evil" alian x lost his grandpa and Gwen before the trial, so he can't use alian x

But, only, we can imagine that mind of one celestialsapian exist in all dimensions and timelines at the same time

But then there's the question

HOW THE FUCK DID THEY DEFITED A GOD! ALIAN X CAN LITERALLY CREATE UNIVERSES AND HE IS DEFITED BY A BUNCH OF KIDS?

It was a very bad choice for a villain

I definitely think the IP is being under utilised.

I'd say the fact nothing has been produced by now is due to the Time Warner Discovery monopoly and the corporate shifts that occur that end up throwing entire companies like Cartoon Network under the bus on a whim of an exec who only ever worked in reality TV before.

As for a return to the original continuity. I don't think the current producers could pull it off without heavily contradicting what came before and alienating fans. We saw it in Alien X-Tinction and we only caught a glimpse of those characters. A full show return would probably be as much a reboot as the 2016 show was, just with the aesthetics used to try draw old fans in (that is unless they hired me obviously)

I think best bet is they get someone completely new in, a McDuffie or Wyatt type to lead a new reboot free from any continuity discussion. Man of Action has other shows like Sonic Prime and I think they should step away from Ben 10.

We should totally get comics and games though.

The reboot should have done a plot where both Ben and Glitch are influenced by some the high override's energy. It would be a nice nod to the original series and we would get to see Gwen and Max fight the two most powerful members of their family.

That would have been a great episode.

Obviously it can’t fit into Season 2’s finale. So I could see the High Override leaving behind some kind of trace energy in the Omnitrix. During an early episode of season 3, I could it “activating” triggering a vague ‘destroy’ command in Ben and Glitch.

(Glitch would also have to not be a car for this, which I’m fine with)

Since Granda Max is still a plumber in this timeline, I imagine this could be the audience’s first hint. Making the reveal in Alien X-tinction pay off rather than only a joke.

I don’t remember an episode where Gwen and Max got to really bond and take center stage. This could be a pretty fun way to do it, as opposed to forcefully writing Ben out of the episode.

I hope they retcon the Ben 10010 future for multiple reasons. One of them being it makes no sense that Ben 1000 wouldn't know about past Ben unlocking surge unless they are going to pull what they did with the original Ben 10000 where it's an alternate future and not the actual future. Also I'm not a fan of Glitch getting stuck as hitch.

Ben 10,010 was low key awful. I don't like how they followed up on Glitch. I don't like how they handled the end of the world. I don't like that this Ben became a trash hobo with literal garbage friends. I HATE how they handled Kevin being abandoned. And I don't buy for a second that Gwen would trust any of those villains and put them in charge of anything (except Hex).

But it has to be an alternate timeline to make any amount of sense. Outside of both Ben's Surge forms looking different, which Alien X-tinction shows is a feature of alien forms from different timelines, a branch off the reboot sure but still a distinctly different timeline. Once Reboot!Ben was taken to the future getting there should be impossible. Reboot!Ben would have knowledge of what happened and how to stop it and the original point is they didn't know. That's usually the only way to avoid narrative paradoxes, they have to be different.

I won't lie I genuinely believe every special follows a different Ben then who we followed in the show and movie. It doesn't help the writing at all but it makes more sense to me. It's biggest crime its that it was boring. It had a plot it wanted use and took the safest options to tell it. Just in a very "don't think about it" way.
