there are many things that left me utterly happy about gotg vol. 3, but one I haven't seen many people mention is that Peter refers to Mantis as his sister at least twice in the movie. Like obviously they are all a big found family and they call each other as such. But there's something about the aknowledgement of Mantis put in the same regard as Peter's grandpa on earth. Something about the fact that he considers her as well as a blood relative because they are both the children of Ego, and Ego raised Mantis to be a tool in the same manner he would've done so with Peter if he had the chance, and they were both taken advantage of by him. And despite all that they both went through because of Ego, they at least managed to find each other.

Ok just watched James Gunn talking about the OG and the new Groot, he said the new Groot grew up with a family and treated as a part of a family but the OG Groot was treated like an animal for much of his life. Him saying this made me yearn for a Rocket and Groot meeting story, old Groot had such a big heart even though according to Gunn, he was treated so badly and then he met Rocket somehow... Ugh imagine Rocket’s reaction, he probably never trusted anyone after escaping from HE and then he met this selfless giant tree that sacrificed himself to save him...
‘‘Why are you doing this... Why?’‘ Rocket asked when he realized what the OG Groot was doing, he didn’t understand why would Groot sacrifice himself for him... I feel like deep down in vol 1 and before, Rocket was expecting Groot to leave him one day.

Why the Naming clip for GotG 3 breaks my heart
Okay, so for starters, this is bizarrely adorable, and that's what's so fucked up about it. Here we have these uplifts, these innocent animals forcibly turned into sentient beings with cybernetic implants and prosthetics through incredibly painful experiments, but they aren't depressed. They aren't afraid. They're hopeful.
They're talking about this perfect world that their "sire" is going to take them to, and how when they get there they'll need real names. They're complimenting each others' choice in name and even laughing with Floor about their very straightforward pick. Just listen to Rocket talk about how he's going to fly away with all his friends and name himself after that dream. He has hope.
But the Rocket we meet in the first movie has none. Which means something worse happens between this moment and his escape.
