learn all the bones in the skeleton, they're great landmarks for getting proportions down, and knowing the body's understructure will help you draw it better. Same goes for muscles too.

One body part moving has an affect on the surrounding muscles and bones, so like an arm being raised will also affect the shoulder, clavicle, scapula, etc. That stuff can change person to person, like how ballerinas are trained so when they kick, jump, etc. their pelvis moves as little as possible. So getting good reference material for what and who you're drawing is important

Ding, ding! The poll results are in and we have a winner! It's daffodils for Astarion! 🥳

To be honest, I was a little surprised by this result. I sort of expected a foxglove sweep, but daffodils are so fitting. I kind of love the imagery for this idea. The symbolism is delicious! 😙👌 Great choice, everybody!

Before I get into my thoughts on that symbolism, though, I've been thinking about the next possible piece. I think I'd like to do Wyll next. He deserves more art, and I'd like to stretch my artistic muscles a little. (I may regret saying that by the time I get finished with Astarion's, though.) It's surprisingly difficult to find flowers that fit Wyll both symbolically and aesthetically ... I'm still looking into it a bit, but you can look for that poll in the next few days. I'd love to hear suggestions, of course!

Also, would anyone want to see WIP sketches, or should I just post the finished product (such as it may be)? I've always been a little hesitant to post "unpolished" work like sketches, but after working on NaNo this past month, it seems public accountability does motivate me to get off my rump and do the thing. I just don't know that anyone is actually interested. Well, anyway, just a thought...

I'mma ramble a little bit about daffodil symbolism and why I like it for Astarion, but naturally I'm putting that bit beneath a cut for length.

So, let me start by saying flower symbolism is an absolute mess. Obviously I couldn't fit all of the potential meanings in the poll description, but a lot of times, flower meanings are contradictory. No matter where you look, you'll find another source that says something different. I tried to get the general gist, but that meant leaving a lot of things out.

That said, daffodils are interesting because their meanings are in such opposition to each other. They're symbols of hope and despair. They're both for renewal and being backward-looking. It's contradictory, and that push and pull is interesting.

Also, as I sort of implied in the poll, daffodils are a group of flowers that fall under the group called Narcissus -- named after the Greek myth of Echo and Narcissus, from which we derive the term narcissist. For those who don't know the basic story, the nymph Echo falls in love with Narcissus, who is beautiful but vain. She approaches him, but he spurns her because he is too arrogant. Depending on which version of the myth you go by, either she curses him herself or he is punished by the gods for breaking her heart. Either way, he winds up falling in love with his own reflection and pining away, with the Narcissus flower blooming where he dies, entranced into immobility and unable to look away from himself.

A fitting irony for Astarion -- someone who was vain and dismissive of others, who ended up cursed for his arrogance. It's ironic, in that Astarion's curse denies him the ability to see his own reflection. Instead of death, he is transformed by unlife. He is a sort of inverted Narcissus, punished for his vanity, not allowed to ever see his own reflection again and not allowed to die but, in an ironic sort of way, this is the thing that allows him the opportunity to change and grow -- a renewal, a transformation.

Astarion is a Narcissus who was forcibly humbled, denied his reflection, forced to use his once greatest asset as a weapon against himself, then given a chance to repent, to change. Unlike the actual Narcissus, who was forced to drown in his own folly and arrogance without ever realizing his punishment, denied the chance to change or redeem himself, Astarion gets a second chance. Of course, the player can give him a push to transform into a better version of himself, or to embrace his worst aspects. The player is his mirror, symbolically and even in-game (the mirror scene), allowing him to become whatever they reflect back to him.

There's something pleasing about the parallels, but the inversions are even more pleasing, in my personal opinion. Anyway, it's all very tasty and giving me a lot of ideas.

I finally started Steam Prison. This game is AMAZING! I think it has become my favorite otome game💖 (or at least equal to Olympia Soirée).

It has everything I like in a video game : a fantastic story, a complex political and social situation of the world, action, romance, a lot of emotions, great characters, a strong main female character, good music and art, etc.👌 This game is literally like a RPG : there are fights (without the gameplay), a deep story, political issues and the characters even go into prison and sewers (like many RPGs)!

I seriously love this game!❤️ I can't wait to continue and know what will happen.😊

But I’m surprised and sad that there is no anime of this game.😔

A few days ago I finished Eltcreed’s route. I really love him & his story!❤️ He’s awesome, he’s hot, funny & so dramatic.😄 And his music is great!🎵

I just finished Ines’ story. I love this character, he's so cute!🥰 It’s interesting to see the story from this point of view. And I knew it was him that she had already met.😌

Also I'm glad to see that Fin has a better ending in Ines' good ending.😁

Ulrik’s route is done. His story gets interesting at the end. But I’m not really a fan of this character. He acts like a kid & it’s so annoying…😑

The best parts of his story are when Eltcreed is there.😆 Big bro Elt is always there for him.😙 (He’s amazing & so funny! Man, I love him.)

I finished Adage’s route. His story is really good, but creepy… He has one of the most disgusting scenes/bad endings in the game.😰

And Adage is fine. I’m not a big fan of his personality, but he’s ok.. I love the🦎scenes.😆

Yune's route is done! The events before the Flood & seeing the story from that perspective were good.😄

But I didn’t like his “love” story. “I want you to k*ll me, if not I’ll k*ll you. Oh, my heart hurts when I think of you. If we fall in love, maybe I'll die. Let's do that."🤦🏻‍♀️

I finished Fin's story. It was perfect!💖👌(But too short.) He deserves all the happiness.🥺

I don't understand why he didn't have a route in the 1st version of the game. After 5 min of playing, I knew I wanted him.❤️

He’s Cyrus' soulmate, her other half who completes her perfectly.🥰 Fin x Cyrus is👌! It’s the most natural & perfect couple of this game.

I’ve done the Grand Ending yesterday. It was really good with all the changes needed to improve society.👌 Most villains finally get the fate they deserve, but I'm surprised Sachsen has a "good" ending.🤨

However I think this route lacks romance, but I'm glad all the guys know that Fin loves Cyrus and tell him to make a move!😁 Now that love is no longer a crime, Fin is popular and receives lots of marriage proposals, but he only wants Cyrus. I like to imagine he’ll tell her one day & they’ll finally be together…🥰

thank you vuerrry much, i'm flattered .... <3 i think 19th-20th century art is a big driving force in my stuff rn, always will be. i'd say i leech off paul gaugin, john singer sargent & my very favorite odilon redon, all of his stuff makes me do backflips, makes me fly and bounce off the walls. also love how pierre brissaud & andre-edouard marty operate in their art. don't have many smart words to say, i just like them a lot lol. i also noticed that starting 2 draw skajrim characters and things related to it did wonders for me, i think just drawing such grimy and dirty boiled water vibe-d games would do a lot of good for a lot of artists. in general it's been about 2 years since i really started drifting away from drawing a lot of ani/manga fanart & consuming such media; & it's........great, hoenstly, no shade, i still like some medias i consumed in that era but rn i can't imagine doing that. just speaking from my experience, moving from more cutesy stylized stuff to a tad bit more realistic direction has me in a really content place. & as a tip trying a lot of things and being able to do a lot of things is awesome and grand; consistency in art is a literal joke. ❤

𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲: 𝐌𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚

Prelude:

Recently there was a large book fair in my city, this year with a much wider assortment of manga (last year I saw like 6 series tops). So I decided to pick one out, there were very few first volumes and most I wasn't interested in but this one stuck out to me from its cover alone.

Actual book talk:

The book follows a kid named Theo Fumis, a good egg, who adores books, but in his hometown of Amun is discriminated against on the account of his mixed race so isn’t allowed in the local public library. Theo dreams of one day visiting Aftzaak, City of books, where he could read all the books he wants.

I’m not gonna say the plot is exceptionally special, I'm sure something similar already exists but, I really like it. I enjoy seeing how the most disenfranchised members of society are treated, it really helps set up a good groundwork for any further worldbuilding.

Hell, let's talk more about the worldbuilding. The fact that it’s based on Arabia and the folklore of Arabian nights is really refreshing, and it works really well in the context of the story, considering the importance of the Islamic golden age in the history of literature and libraries. The Islamic culture of giving alms is covered briefly as well, and the possible reason why Theo hasn't received any deepens the world nicely. Plus the astatic is just 😙👌. 

Not to say the text rests on its laurels, it has some really nice worldbuilding unique to it. For example, the one that really impressed me was how the sea in this world has become virtually unnavigable due to the heavy fog, and thus the most popular book series is about a pirate captain mapping the world to claim it as its own(in a chill way). According to the VERY nice worldbuilding section at the back of the volume, it's also pushed by the central library to promote cultural tolerance among its readers, which is very cool of them 👍! The central library and its librarians seem very interesting as well, can't wait to learn more about them in their offices in further volumes. the magic system has some potential but at least in this volume it's not heavily explored, but I would love to learn more about spirits that can apparently enchant books.

[Characters]

All the characters were very interesting with the exception of the townsfolk who understandably didn't get many lines. 

Theo is the quintessential kid protagonist, staying very nice and polite even through all the racism he goes through on the daily basis. That’s not saying he’s some kind of saint, he loathes his long ears, pale complexion, and blonde hair, that differentiate him from the townsfolk, wishing he wasn't shunned. He also feels guilty for making his sister have to provide for him and his education.

Tifa, is an especially hard working and caring sister to Theo, working dawn to dusk to put him through school and give him opportunities that she never had because she can’t read. My hope is that she isn’t relegated just to flashbacks after Theo leaves town.

The Kafans (librarians)

from all the librarians has to be Pipiri, a rowdy pixie like creature, the primary representative of the restoration office, her off the cuff and silly yet knowledgeable personality with her expressive movement quickly endured me to her. I especially liked her interactions with her junior and protogyny Nanako, where she is often the butt of the joke.

Nanako herself is a grate character. She’s fairly reserved but not shy and highly skilled for her age and experience. her mild nature plays perfectly off  Pipiri’s hot and brash nature; even though she seems somewhat demining in their interactions it’s obvious Nanako admirers if mothing Pipiri’s skills as a  restorer, a position with Nanako is dedicated mind and soul.

Sedona despite being the Kafan we spend the most time with didn't feel especially interesting. Only after I had some time to reflect, I realized that she was the only person we saw using magic,  I assumed magic was not that rare among Kafans but it's possible it's rare and mostly concentrated in the members of the Protection office.

Lastly, there’s Anzu, the head of the expedition and an experienced member of the liaisons office. Let's get this out of the way first she's a MILF with a hard M, she's a mother of six with what has to be a very dedicated husband. She's by far the most experienced and knowledgeable in the group. I liked her a lot!

[Final thoughts]

Overall I really liked My Magus of the Library! The story is fairly simple and straightforward, but the characters and worldbuilding make it a unique and enjoyable take on the fantasy genre. It's got a lot of potential and I'm looking forward to the next volume (actually in the time it took me to write this I already bought the next volume, but haven't touched it yet).

Loy Krathong Day is one of the most popular festivals of Thailand celebrated annually on the Full-Moon night of the Twelfth Lunar Month. It takes place at a time when the weather is fine as the rainy season is over and there is a high water level all over the country. "Loy" means "to float" and a "Krathong" is a lotus-shaped vessel made of banana leaves. The Krathong usually contains a candle, three joss-sticks, some flowers and coins. Many Thais also use this festival to ask forgiveness for any wrongdoings that they've committed upon the water, such as littering or wasteful usage. The story of Loy Krathong is quite a lot of details. I'm going to tell you more in the next episode. Geez!
