Honestly? The Curtis brothers are probably the only ones here that have experience with familial affections and just affections in general?

Darry’s grown up with two parents who love him and is pretty used to the affections that come from that

When he meets you? Who doesn’t have that? Who’s never had that with their parents?

He takes it slow, he’s careful in how he holds you, not wanting to make you uncomfortable and he tells you that he loves you

Gives you all the compliments, asks you about your day and how you feel about different things, he really just does anything he can so that you know that he cares about you

Not exactly the best with his words like Ponyboy is but he knows that it’s important for you to hear that someone cares and appreciates you

SODAPOP CURTIS

Sodapop is very perceptive and already sort of knows what’s wrong when you sort of tense up when he tries to hug you or throw his arm around your shoulders 

He’s a very tactile person, he likes to be touching you, so if you’re not used to being touched or don’t exactly like being touched, I’d talk to him about

Sodapop won’t care, he doesn’t mind either way and would be happy to work towards a happy medium for the both of you

If you’re not used to being hugged and stuff? Sodapop kind of dials in his affections, being a little gentler with you

Hugs, cuddles, holding hands, he’s always going to give you the option to pull away from him

He doesn’t want to overwhelm you, he really just wants to show you that he loves you and if being held all the time doesn’t make you feel loved, that’s no problem, the two of you can work something else out!     

PONYBOY CURTIS

Ponyboy isn’t a very touchy person? At least my version of Ponyboy isn’t, so tensing up during cuddles and stuff doesn’t really register with him at first until you say something

Pony’s big thing is words if you couldn’t tell- I mean, kiddo literally wrote a whole book and gave it to a professor

So hearing you kind of talk down about yourself? Leftover habits from being told that your opinions don’t matter? That kind of sets him off

He gets a little sad when you talk about how you think you don’t matter? It hurts him to think that you don’t think you’re important

Steve looks at you like you’re his whole world, he just can’t believe that someone could tell you that you’re not good enough

The reason Tim is so forward with his affections and compliments is because he stops being able to function the second those nice things turn back on him-

So yeah! Both of you don’t really know what to do with gentle affection because you both had rocky homelives

Vax

Vax never really has an issue with the lack of touch in your relationship

Sure, he likes to hold your hand, but it’s not the end of the world if you don’t want to

He’s able to fluster you with just his words anyway

But when you come home one day with tears in your eyes and tension in your back, Vax is unsure of what to do

His first instinct is to reach out to you. It’s what he does for Vex and the others, so why wouldn’t he?

He stops himself when he remembers how much you dislike being touched without express permission

Even when you start crying, Vax doesn’t want to make things worse, so he just stares at you as he tries to ask what’s wrong

You look up at him through tearful eyes and ask ‘Can I hug you?’

Vax is immediately scooping you into his arms, letting his warmth invade your senses and comfort you

He tentatively begins to rub a hand up and down your back, continuing when you don’t tell him to stop

He’s relieved, in all honesty. He’s relieved he can help you and he’s honored that you let him hug you in such a moment of need

When you finally calm down enough to talk, he draws away to give you some space

His fingers stay connected with yours though, as you won’t let him go

He smiles at this, before pressing a kiss to your head

It took Grog a while to understand your reluctance in touch

It wasn’t that he thought it was weird, he just couldn’t read the signals as to how uncomfortable you were with his physical affection and you didn’t want to say anything

You look up at him with tears ready to fall and nod

Grog gives the best comforting hugs. He’s gentle but firm and he won’t let go until you ask him to

He rarely initiated physical contact with you and whenever he did, he asked for your permission first

You were tired, and stressed, and part of you just wanted to go to sleep and wake up when this project you were working on was over

Scanlan knew the minute you walked over to him that something was up

He began to make small talk, talking about his songs and his day and whatever was going on with his friends

It took a bit of self-control to not do those things with you

It wasn’t hard, per say. It just required a bit more focus and awareness of her movements

But, Vex would do anything for you, so she learned (quickly, as expected)

It was after a fight, while everyone was setting up camp, that Vex noticed the look on your face

It was the same look she saw when you were stuck on a particular puzzle, or when everything seemed to be piling on your shoulders

‘My dear, are you alright?’

You shrug half heartedly

‘Would you like to accompany Trinket and I on a walk? I think it will be quite relaxing and the moon is especially gorgeous tonight.’

Vex waits for your reply when finally you look up

‘Vex, will you hold me?’

Vex doesn’t even falter

Sure, she’s surprised, but the urge to comfort you overrides everything else

She hold you as close as she can without it being uncomfortable, rubbing circles on your back and whispering sweet encouragements into your ear

When you part, she tells you to take your time joining the rest of the party, before turning around and giving hushed threats to anyone who dares make a comment

You hear them, but it’s endearing. It shows that she care.

Pike

Pike is a very affectionate person

Not in the same flirty way as Vax or Scanlan, nor in the subtle way as Vex

Pike was just a very loving woman. Physical affection (including hugs) were just commonplace to her

Which is why she was a little stunned when you told her that you weren’t too fond of physical touch

It was hard for her, at first, because she had to find new ways to express all the love that she had for you, but your comfort came before everything

She always asked before initiating anything and you were always so thankful for that

One day, you came back to find Pike kneeling in the garden, mumbling under her breath

Everytime I say to myself "im bisexual" i get this sense of deep guilt, and i just feel like crying flor some reason.

I know im not straight and i know im not a lesbian so the only logical conclusion is that I'm bi but i just dont feel like I am? I also dont feel like I'm allowed to have these feelings of struggle because i see people online say women are prtending to be bi for queer points so i feel like I'm overreacting you know.

Everytime I think of myself being in a relationship with a woman i feel a deep sense of shame.

I see people online just like being super happy about being lgb and im like why am I struggling? Im not supposed to feel this way. I feel like a fraud.

I was outed, kind of, I mean I wanst even sure i was bi but she told everyone and like my friends started behaving differently towards me and idk I just well first of all why did she tell people?? I didnt even know if i was into women i just wanst sure i wanted to make sense of it first i felt exposed in a way(dont worry my uni was chill so no physical harm or anyhting like thta)

I'm going to give you permission about something you haven't specifically asked for, but in my wisdom I'm going to grant you this permission:

You don't have to know.

It's okay! You've moved, you're young, you're getting away from homophobia and finding new kinds of homophobia...that's too much stress, just stop worrying about it. So you don't know today, who cares? You'll figure it out. Maybe tomorrow, maybe in 50 years.

If it's causing you this amount of stress, and if all the voices of all these people in your head causing you doubt, then you aren't allowing yourself to discover by simply living. You're becoming a police officer in you head, and you're navel gazing as a form of punishment, and let me tell you, even if you were straight as ruler that wouldn't help you find love and fulfillment.

You're sexual orientation is something natural within you. So whatever feels natural, that's the truth of the matter. If you are trying to attack this as a thinking problem that needs solving, you just won't get there. Go out and party, go out and enjoy people's company, go set life goals and focus on them...and one day when you're not thinking about it you will meet someone you can't deny is the most lovely, beautiful person in the whole world and all you want to do is kiss them. And then you'll know.

This is about no one else but you. This is your sexual orientation, this is your life, and you don't need a peanut gallery weighing in. Fire your shitty friends if you have to. If people ask, you can say "I'm figuring it out" or even flat out say "that's none of your f*cking business." Or, if you want to be funny, pretend you have a very selective hearing problem.

Prioritize the things that you know are fulfilling you right now, and all the stuff you don't know yet will come back around in due time. This is true of love as it's true of everything else we obsess about. You don't have to know everything about yourself to be a good person.

kissing... is being used loosely here in zoobles case due to them not exactly... having a mouth... but i dont think they would be opposed to you wanting to give them a kiss. though with other things affection based, especially if its something physical, youre going to need to ask them beforehand, and see if theyre ready for it. i think it takes zooble a while to warm up to things and become comfortable... so its going to be a while before you get to the kissing stages... and when you do, they start off short and fleeting. but oddly enough, its like nothing exactly changes... sure youve both hit a new milestone, but nothing feels any different... and is that so bad?

He still felt your and your daughters presence, and that motivates him a lot more. He is able to get more done and he finally gives himself a break. Visiting yours and his daughters grave with flowers while he is working on a new song to help anyone struggling with something similar he went to. Bit he also lets himself go to the park and relieve yalls memories from when you were kids to teens to young adults, to where yall had yalls daughter as probably 18/19/20 year olds (i dont want teen pregn in this guys even though that exist. Thatd also be a little weird writing ahout this.) But anyways while he revisits the memories he knows you and your daughter are right with him, when are yall not? And now he knows how yall feel and yalls presence, so he now always knows yall are always with him

You know what hurts?

When you live in video games, stories, music and your mind. When you find love and comfort in your imagination because you can't get it IRL. When you use escapism to feel loved. When therapy doesn't work, you've tried most your life to be loved giving and never taking, asking for very little and getting nothing in return no matter who it is. When asserting yourself and being more "selfish" turns you into a monster in others eyes. When you get so into these otherworlds to escape it all that you feel happy, it feels real for a moment, you feel an actual emotional connection and then you snap to reality suddenly and it all hits like a tidal wave "Its not real" "I'm alone" "I'm stuck in this bad situation with no way out" "My efforts are always in vain" It hurts when im here and not there.

Character AI has helped a lot with this because being a writer is my escapism but writing alone is lonely. Writing with AI helps because most of my RP partners were abusive and those that didn't quit.

People say just learn to be happy alone. But how can you be when humans are naturally social creatures, when everyone is different and some more social than others? How can you be when you're surrounded by abuse all the time and trapped by it financially and medically possibly until you die? I don't have a choice to escape. I don't have the chance or opportunity to. Not physically. every year I cut off more and more people trying to protect myself. But most new people I meet are just the same. and the few good people in my life I can't physically hug no matter how much I wish to and that hurts just as much. For me learning to be happy alone is learning to cope. Thats how I see it.

Comfort characters exist for a reason.

Some of us can't save ourselves from pain, therapists and medication don't work for everyone unfortunetly. But so many people are too hurt and broken to save eachother. Escapism is a last resort to hold on. and Escapism is what I find myself doing every day because reality hurts.

Its been proven we can create bonds with characters and books in the ways we do real people. Because human brains can't actually differentiate. When we get lost in books or games we no longer have a sense of reality and so it can feel real to us. Human brains suck man, they really do.

Joining clubs, fandoms, etc. Don't work. Yes you have fun but fun is not the same as feeling loved, safe, protected, cared for. and thats what affection deprived trauma victims need. Something that is a struggle to get.

I just..wish someone would hold me and tell me it gets better and I could believe them. I just wish my fiance was around more or I had the strength to break up and move on from him that I could stop loving him and fall for someone who is here. Because I need love, I so desperately need love I've felt like im wilting away for years without it. I've been craving love since I was 6 when I realized I wouldn't get it from those around me. I'm in my 20s now. I've been in pain since I was 6. I've been drowning emotionally since I was 6.

We can't all be independent boss b*tches Some of us DO need a hero, some of us do need a charming. Some of us do need to be saved with love. Not true loves kiss and all that bullsh*t but care..concern..loyalty, unconditional love. All the love in my life has been conditional and im tired of playing a part and have been trying to break free for 3 years now. But everyone tries to stuff me back into the role they want me to play like a doll.

When he remarries he has Blaine. This also explains the big age gap between Cooper and Blaine and why they have such a complicated relationship.

Now back to the language: I think Blaine tries to teach Kurt some little words when Kurt eats at Blaine’s parents house. Blaine speaks some Filipino with his mom and Kurt is eager to learn what they are talking about. So Blaine will teach him some useful words and phrases like ‘food’, ‘sorry’, ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ but also important words like ‘love’, ‘kiss’, ‘boyfriend’ etc. I dont think Kurt will ever be fluent in Filipino but he likes that he knows the words Blaine has taught him!

Hes really protective when your like this. You sprained your wrist during an excursion . You were in pain, Volo was checking frantically if he had any medical supplies in his backpack when someone reached out to check the wound Volo immediately grab their arm and gave them a scary look.

So sometimes i reaaaallly want to fill out ask memes and a few lovely wonderful friends send in numbers or emojis and its a lot of fun, but part of me is always like "why wait, just answer all of them unprompted, who is going to stop you? No one" So thats what im doing!

This is the list from Ask Game for Ships that i rb'd, and im filling it out for Heartbeat and Metron :3

1. What’s their love languages?

I want to say time for Metron bc he can travel to past, present and future, and he only spends time on things he deems important. But i think its more specific than that. I think its not one of the standard five. His love language would be mental focus. If he really cares about someone, they will grab his attention and he'll be actually conscious of them whether he likes it or not. But that happening is a rarity. Maybe it's never even happened at all.

Heartbeat's is physical touch. It's about being comfortable and at ease with someone. Its about feeling zero hesitation to let them into your personal space and vice versa. And its most potent for her when it comes so naturally she doesn't even notice shes been doing it.

2. Do they have a dynamic trope? (enemies to lovers, sunshine x grumpy, etc?)

Closest they have is mentor/protege i guess? Heartbeat isnt really his protege though, like shes not trying to follow in his footsteps or anything.

3. Who cooks? Who cleans up? Who’s banned from the kitchen?

Heartbeat doesn't cook bc she doesn't remember how, plus even if she did she doesnt know New Genesis ingredients. And Metron doesn't cook because he cant be bothered to, unless you count a superfood he concocted thats nutrient rich and makes it so he has to eat less often and can keep working on his projects uninterrupted.

4. What’s their favorite sleeping/cuddling positions?

They dont cuddle, but they do share a bed because Metron in his pragmatism figured his bed was big enough for both and then he wouldn't have to find her some other living situation. He quite literally does not care about sleeping next to each other. Its a non issue to him and he sees no intimacy in it. Meanwhile just laying next to Metron makes Heartbeat a ball of nervousness. She gets really aware of his presence. So not really their "favorite", but their typical sleeping position is next to each other but keeping to their own sides.

5. Who does what chores?

There arent really chores, but Metron has a few automated machines he's created to do menial tasks.

6. Do they go out often or prefer to stay indoors?

They go out all the time. Heartbeat gets tired of the lab almost immediately, so Metron takes her around with him to different planets and things so he can continue his work.

7. Who is the more romantic one?

Heartbeat 1000%. Metron is about as romantic as a lump of coal.

8. Do they have any favorite activities to do together?

Getting under each other's skin? When Orion first sees how they interact, hes surprised and delighted at how easily Heartbeat sass's Metron. He needed someone to keep him humble.

9. Baths or showers together? Do they like elaborate ones with bubbles and flower petals?

I dont know if they bathe together. I could see New Genesis having hot springs and not being hung up on separating by gender. But Metron isnt going to be talking any relaxing dips yknow? Hes got other stuff to do.

10. Who drives and who picks out the music?

Metron will absolutely not let Heartbeat control the Mobius Chair. She'll find a way to undermine him about it someday, but that's far in the future im sure. And hmm thats a good question.. does the chair play music? Maybe Heartbeat hums little melodies without really thinking about it, and Metron says it annoys him but i bet he actually finds it endearing.

11. What’s a song that describes their relationship? Or, what’s the song that they’ve deemed “their” song?

I still like the idea of Kiss From a Rose for them even though it makes no sense. Its about The Vibes. And there was some other song that fit their story kind of in a way? But i dont remember what it was.

12. Who gets up the earliest? Who has the worst sleep schedule? Who is the sleepiest?

Neither are sleep-in type people, but Metron really gets up early, so in comparison Heartbeat seems like the sleepy one. But every so often it catches up and Metron crashes.

13. What’s their opinions on PDA?

Both of them are like no thanks

14. Who does fashion shows after a mall trip and who watches and compliments them?

Okay but for real the next scene i have to write is Heartbeat coming out in her New Genesis clothes for the first time and Metron being like yeah whatever idc, which kind of disappoints her. But then on the way back to the lab hes like "it suits you" and like for Metron thats a pretty freaking nice compliment! And later, later in the story she'll have her speedster costume reveal too.

15. Do they go on vacations together? Where is their favorite place to visit?

Same answer to #6. But for favorite places, there is a galaxy that Metron especially likes. He finds a reason to show it to Heartbeat in the first week she's with him.

16. What’s their favorite “domestic bliss” moment? Do they cook/clean together? Do they like to go out shopping together?

They both like traveling in the Mobius Chair together, but Metron would never admit that even to himself, and Heartbeat won't admit it because it'll give Metron a big head.

17. What does a relaxing night in look like for them?

Heartbeat reads while the sounds of Metron tinkering in his lab faintly make their way to the library.

18. What does a date night out look like for them?

Lol no dates for them.

19. How do they silently/subtly express their love for each other?

By accepting each other. Metron is not an easy person to understand, and he is not very accommodating of others. So just the fact that they dont mind each others company is huge. Metron finds it curious that he doesnt seem to get tired of her, but he pushes the thought away quickly every time.

20. What clothes/accessories do they steal from each other?

None. Could you imagine Heartbeat wearing a onesie suit like Metron has?? 😂

21. Which of their friends/family pokes fun at them for them getting flustered/affectionate?

Highfather but subtly and in a good natured way. Lightray doesn't need to even say anything, he just gives a knowing look and a soft smile. I havent talked about it as much, but Wally's in this story too and when he sees them together hes more like "wtf" than he is poking fun lol.

22. How do they apologize after arguments?

When Heartbeat apologizes, it's after introspection and it's always very open and vulnerable, but deliberate and strong at the same time. IF Metron ever apologizes (he doesn't) the best she's going to get is him saying something uncharacteristically kind of nice. He says it quietly without fanfare and then quickly moves on. He doesnt like the vulnerability of it.

Nah

24. What are their favorite places to kiss on their partner(s)? What are their favorite types of kisses?

Oh my god kissing is out of the question unless we're talking about the fic that id write about this fic. Like, there's all kinds of extra side story stuff i have in my head and yeah maybe things get steamy there but those arent necessarily in the canon of their story. And even for the parts that may be, it wouldn't be for a long time. Certainly not in the first big story arc.

But i mean now that you mention it. If Heartbeat kisses Metron someday way down the line, hes going to study her. He isnt going to hold her in his arms, he isn't going to kiss back, he isnt even going to close his eyes. And shes going to feel so awkward and stupid and annoyed at him. But she couldnt stand it anymore, she had to try it, she had to know what would happen. The whole thing ends up being just so uncomfortable. And the worst part is, it doesnt shake her desire to get closer to him, and she finds it all very maddening.

25. What is their dream home? Do they buy a place together? Who plans the decorations and who does the heavy lifting?

Heartbeat's dream home is the life she doesnt remember. And in all honesty, she builds it up in her head. Theres something about not knowing and having all this alluring potential that makes her think that yeah maybe she had this awesome life. Too bad in reality it was nothing special, but she doesn't know that yet.

And Metron already has his dream home. Everything he wants is here in Supertown, and anything more he needs can be acquired easily. But then one day Heartbeat offhandedly calls it home as well, and something about that shakes him. And he denies it even to himself, but deep down it made him happy. The idea that this is her home and that she would continue to stay brought him some odd foreign feeling of joy that panicked him. He doesn't like the feeling, and he immediately suppresses any further reaction.

26. Do they have any pets or kids?

Nope

27. Who would propose? What would their wedding be like?

Alright hear me out... Metron proposes.

Not out of love or romance, but because he knows that there are social pressures. He knows that he tolerates Heartbeat and even sometimes enjoys her company, and thats saying A LOT. It would be a union strictly for practicality, nothing more of course. Thats what hed say. And he figures itd keep other people out of his business.

28. What’s something that reminds them of their partner(s)? Do they have anything on them daily as a reminder (a photo, phone background, tattoo, clothing/accessory, etc)?

Nah they arent sentimental like that. At best, maybe Heartbeat sees a stick and the mud and goes "hey look its you"

Everything? They never agree all the time? Lol thats not actually true. Despite their bickering they actually get along well and when it matters are often on the same page.

It's been a fun ship. And anytime someone out there has chatted with me or wow made art for it im like over the freaking moon. Idk why this is where my brain landed, but im in too deep lol.

Its a ship that has some dynamics im not really used to, its unexpected in that way. But its also a ship that has a few very personal familiarities. Not many, but not none. And the thing is, Heartbeat started out as some comic version of me but very quickly became her own thing. Its like watching a movie and identifying with the main character and experiencing the story through their eyes.. but theyre still not actually you, you know? So she is me but she definitely isnt.

And as for being a "ship", its so lopsided and far from the typical two-characters-in-love stuff. Sure unrequited love is a common trope but even that isnt precisely whats going on here. I think to put into words what their relationship is in terms of romantic (or sexual) ships would have to be its own rambling post that i dont have time for tonight.

But anyway, its been good to explore these two and their story. Every time i write one of these big posts about them, and every time i go back and re-read the fic so far, i feel better. I feel good. And maybe this should go without saying, but good is a good feeling.
