21 - Quest
‘And then,’ Barda said simply, ‘we will go on.’
Lief slowly clipped the Belt around his waist once more. His heart was very full. He felt wonder and a kind of triumph when he thought of what had just passed. He felt excitement, eagerness and a thrill of fear at the thought of what was ahead.
But most of all he felt relief, and a deep, deep happiness.
The first gem had been found.
The quest to save Deltora had truly begun.
DELTORA QUEST 1 The Forests of Silence Ch 16 The Topaz
Sonia raised her hand, then glanced at him. Rye nodded. She had waited even longer than he had for this.
Sonia grasped the heavy ring that served as a handle for the wooden Door. She twisted the ring. She pulled. And the Door swung smoothly open, beckoning them in.
THE THREE DOORS The Third Door Ch 4 Time to Choose —
Now [the bukshah] needed water. And they would not expect him to fail them. To them he was not an undersized, scared weakling. To them he was leader, guide, friend. They trusted him absolutely. The thought flowed through him like warm, rich milk.
He raised his head and looked straight at Strong Jonn. ‘I will go,’ he said. The map he held fluttered in the little breeze that always came before the dawn. ‘I will go with you, to the Mountain.’
ROWAN OF RIN Ch 4 Seeing is Believing —
[Britta] glanced at her companions with envy. Vashti, Jewel and Sky were free to relish their success and look forward eagerly to the contest to come. None of them had anything to fear, anything to hide. One of them, certainly, had tried to put Britta out of the contest, but as there had  been no witness to the deed there was no real danger of discovery. No one on board carreid the burden of a great secret, as she did.

Events that went down in History during the Reign of Viserys I Targaryen 8/8

The Hand of the King gathers the nobles to receive their allegiance to King Aegon II
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the year 131 AC, days after "THE ROYAL AUDIENCE TO DECIDE DIRFTMARK´S SUCCESSION", the HAND OF THE KING [SER OTTO HIGHTOWER] gathered the members of the nobility living in the REDKEEP in the throne room to swear allegiance to PRINCE AEGON over PRINCESS RHAENYRA.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those present assured that the instance was a mere formality and that the purpose was always for everyone to bend the knee without problems.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately, the houses of those nobles who did not swear allegiance to PRINCE AEGON were reported missing, among them LORD ALLUN CASWELL, LORD MERRYWEATHER and LADY FELL…

△ How does it feel having a father who doesn't love you? I've always wondered.
△ - 6
“It feels fucking fantastic. In times of war or political unrest I have one less person to give a shit about. It eases the soul, really,” the Mistress of Whispers replied with a caustic tone. Allun Florent had been a terrible father, distant and stern, cruel in his words and so demanding of what he expected of his children. Gods, and Yara Farwynd had been an even worse mother. The one thing the two of them had in common was her, the daughter that was meant to bring some semblance of a more loving union for such opposing characters. No child could mend the broken bridges of the parents, though. And yet, since she was a little girl it had always been reasonable for her to believe it wasn’t so much a matter of her parents not loving her, it was a matter of her being an unlovable being.

TG stans: “The Greens always resolve things diplomatically, and they don’t resort to violence against anyone who opposes them the way the Blacks do.”
Tell that to:
1. Lord Lyman Beesbury
2. Lord Allun Caswell
3. The servant boy who found out Viserys was dead and that the Greens were going to cover it up
4. Lord Lyonel Strong
5. Ser Harwin Strong
6. Everyone in the Riverlands
7. Every single innocent person who was burned alive at Bitterbridge
8. Every single lord that Aegon the Usurper executed after Rhaenyra’s death (for no good reason), which resulted in their Houses turning their backs on him for good and siding firmly with the Blacks.

All my respect to the following people, they were the real legends of the episode:
Ser Harrold Westerling, who never once betrayed his oath and word, who rather rip off the white cloak he wore for decades than be a part of Otto's massacre (I cried);
Lord Lyman Beesbury, Viserys oldest advisor, who stood by the King's best interest until the end, the first one to stand against the coup and defend Rhaenyra's right, just as he did in behalf of Lucerys when they questioned his;
Lord Allun Caswell, always ready to support Rhaenyra, be it going up the stairs of the Red Keep, greeting her and Daemon upon their arrival with relief or risking his own neck to warn them about the coup. He was the last one standing when Otto forced them to kneel and lost his life trying to run to Dragonstone immediately after;
Honorable mention to the Lady and Lord who refused to kneel before the usurpers and were arrested for it. They are no oathbreakers and proudly kept the honor of their houses.

Oh, it was so small that I squinted and I missed it, but oh wow, another moment HOTD writers warped the story in favor of Greens.
Lord Caswell (no name given in F&B, in the show he's named Allun) in canon NEVER bent his knee for usurpers. He was arrested in the middle of the night and thrown into the dungeons, then given a choice between swearing his fealty to the Greens and the headsman's axe, and our man chose axe.
Tumblr media
And they had the gall to make him a coward in the show!
That, by the way, was the same Lord Caswell whose widow will hang herselg begging for mercy for their children and whose town will be burned by Daeron. Daeron will also seize the lordship of Bitterbridge to grant it to Ulf the Sot. One would think this family suffered from the Greens enough without HOTD writers' help.

06 - People
One painting showed the story all too clearly. It showed guards rounding up people from the village and putting them into iron cages to which grach were harnessed. It showed the weeping and pain as sons and daughters were torn away from their mothers, brother was separated from brother, husband from wife. The ones who were being taken were tall and strong. They reminded [Rowan] of his family, the people eh knew at home, and Norris. The ones who were being left behind were smaller and weaker-looking — of no use as warriors. They were like Shaaran. Like Thiery. Like himself. Shaaran's slim finger pointed to a bent old woman standing close to one of the iron cages. She carried a bundle of herbs, to show that she was a Wise Woman and a healer. She was secretly passing something through the bars of the cage to another, much younger, woman inside. ROWAN OF RIN Rowan and the Zebak Ch 17 Painted Shadows
maybe it's the nostalgia but rin my beloved <3 at least later on in the series where the general village grows as information is revealled
this post was originally just going to be lighthearted like love theres a village with big boi warriors who triple dog dare each other and gotta prepare for every adventure situation possible, but they also make bread and pots and chairs
but then theres also the whole thing of being separated from your loved ones and grieving (and also being robbed of your grief) that loss, but you don't give up and die, you live and you continue on. and every now and then there are reminders of the people you lost in the faces of your children, reminders of a distant memory. and just when hope seems as lost as the memories, you are brought together.
that they have a chance to reflect. they might not all choose to, but they can. they can think about their place in the village, with their people, their loved ones. and maybe they could have considered how they treated the black sheep bukshah of their village regardless, but served with some hard evidence they kinda got slapped in the face and had to confront it. or at least you'd imagine the headstrong jump in courageous folk wouldnt shy away now (but who knows lol) anyway i guess what im trying to get to is it's nice that the people who feel like they live on the outskirts get a bit of closure about their "weirdness". doesn't erase anything, but there's something nice about knowing it's not just you.
