after a moment, she pushes forward, robotically compelled forward by… something? she isn’t quite sure–well, that’s not completely true. she’s had her suspicions for awhile now, actually. but, there was, just. so much noise now, it was so hard to focus on her thoughts. she strains, reaching for them. ☕‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎

chunks of knotted purple hair splatters against pale skin, hanging over her eyes as sweat soaks into her hairline. yet, yuri smiles. “ finally! this is really i wanted… ” (did that ever matter?), she hugs herself, nails digging into the flesh of her upper arms. but, she couldn’t bring herself care, words just kept tumbling from her lips. ☕

“ there’s no need to spend the weekend with monika, don’t listen to her! come to my house instead. the whole day, just the two of us, doesn’t that sound wonderful? ” ☕

suddenly, the static pushes back, quickly growing in intensity as if somehow angered by her attempts. the rooms spins, pulsing audibly to the rhythm of her favorite love song gone sour. what happens next can only really be described as word vomit, as the bile rises in her throat to form her best love letter, she begins to black out. ☕ >yuri only hears bits and pieces of what’s coming out of her own mouth.

“–then anything i could ever imagine–” ’–feel nice to have some one care about–” “–more and more like something horrible–’

either way, her beloved’s expression stays empty, cold, he doesn’t move a muscle, he doesn’t even blink. had this always been the case? how did she never notice? behind him, something begins to fizzle and stutter to life, it fades in and out as it grows: eventually, the glitched projection takes over the entire front wall. ☕

hold on, wait… collection? data? what does that–oh, no. nonono. it can’t be! this can’t be all–but, sadly, it makes a little too much sense. yuri’s arms drop to her sides, hanging limply, she can only stare, choked up, any words she had are left to die in her throat. ☕

a pause. there was only one thing left for her to do. her only way out, as far as she could tell, anyway. she sniffles, which turns into a shaky giggle, which turns into a defeated laugh. ☕

as she lays there, blood seeps from her fresh wound and pools on the floor below, flayed open in more ways then one. shakily, she gives MC a small smile, something more akin to her usual self. ☕

-- Please tell us about a scene, in which you had trouble playing Victor.

S: The honest answer would be "all the scenes", but if I have to pick up some, then I will say it was the beginning of the show, episodes 1~3, I think? It was really tough for me, trying to understand the nature of Victor Nikiforov. It seemed to me that I didn't have enough information to create the character as one realistic, living human being - well, one reason was that it is an original anime. I don't usually have to worry a lot about how I should express emotions of characters I play, but as I've mentioned before, in case of Victor, I often was asked to play him in a completely different, almost opposite, way to what my image of the character was. It was me, who played the role, but I don't really feel that I did. Probably because often I was expressing [in my performance] different emotions than those of Victor that lives inside me.

-- What the directing was like during voice-over recording?

S: If I played the character going based on the context of the lines I was saying and additional information written in the screenplay, Victor would become a cool (かっこいい) character. But I think that the directors wanted Victor to be, first and foremost, not so much a "cool character", but "a genius that don't fit the standard". I think it was like a trial and error method for us to get that right. I was often asked to do multiple takes like: "It wasn't bad, but lets try something different".

-- Victor's "Vkusno!" was so cute. Was that you who came with the idea to say in that way?

S: I said it that way during a test recording and I wasn't told anything about it, so I said it in the same way during the actual recording.

[Notes: I must have stop reading this interview on the Makkachin vs. Yuuri answer before, because it really surprised me that he has said that Victor wasn't supposed to be a "cool character"...

A large part of YoI fandom in Jp were fujos absolutely obsessed with gender norms, and who is seme, who is uke blah blah... (I've ranted about this before).

Seme should be cool (かっこいい) and uke should be cute（かわいい）period... And based on that, cute Victor arts were according to them "against the canon".

It's really interesting, because before this guidebook was published uke-Yuuri fujos had a massive meltdown over the art that was drawn for it, with Yurio in the spotlight in the center and no rings.... It was then slightly redrawn (but Victor still has gloves, so "no ring"). (EDIT: sorry, it wasn't this one... I forgot which one I'm translating from 💀 The "problematic" illustration was for the Yuri!!! on Life guidebook. But the point still stands, because the timeline was like this: middle of May 2017 - fujo meltdown, middle of June - Yuri!!! on Life guidebook is published, beginning of July - this fanbook is published... So they were working on this one, as fujos went rabid over the Yurio illustration, then over Yurio exhibition and other stuff concerning the last DVD, which was released at the end of May...)

There was so much anti-fujos dog-whistling in YoI, and reading this interview I wonder if maybe this "Victor not cool, but cute" and the weird, slightly anti-Yuuri answers (the Makkachin vs. Yuuri etc.) were because of that... It would take me a lot of time to summarize for you the whole history of this behavior from Avex&co., but one day I'll do that 💀]

I re-read my post about chapters 22-30 and I realized that theres so much I just fully forgot to mention, mostly relating to the inner circle so heres a quick summary of my thoughts about each ic member now that Im about halfway through the book and have spent some time with them. To briefly recap my previous thoughts, I think their group dynamic is insanely uncomfortable because of how apparent their hierarchy is and also none of them seem to actually like each other all that much

Amren

I dont dislike her in the sense that I dont dislike her personality or the basic concept of her character, but I do hate that shes in the inner circle at all. Like, whats this eldritch creature trapped in a body thats not her own doing hanging out with all these boring people ass people FOR 500 YEARS dude, if I had to spend 500 years with Rhysand I would destroy the entire night court regardless of whether or not I had Amren-levels of power. Like, why on earth would she be satisfied playing second fiddle to Rhysand and living in an APARTMENT in his stupid °•~City of Starlight~•° when shes supposed to be like a billion years old and a thousand times more powerful than him. I feel like itd be interesting to explore that but I know that we really dont from watching cari can read's summaries, so she just ends up being a character thats supposed to be interesting because shes so mysterious but is actually so shrouded in intrigue that it turns around and she just becomes boring again

When I first met her I said that something about her bothered me but I couldnt put my finger on what it was, but that I still kinda liked her because she atleast annoyed Rhysand. She really hasnt annoyed Rhys in any way since her and Feyres first meeting so I like her less because of that and also because shes mostly just boring to me at the moment. I think another reason why I dont particularly like her is that she feels so intrinsically tied to the misogyny of this world that just suddenly materialized in this book and its really annoying, I would like to avoid that subplot as much as possible. She basically just exists to give Feyre a female friend at the Night Court and to show her that you can totally girlboss your way out of a misogynistic system! But you cant dismantle the system because uhhhhhhhh. change is like a glacier because its slow

Also, shes obviously meant to parallel Ianthe, like shes supposed to be the better version of her, but I cant even imagine her and Feyre making out sloppy style toxic yuri edition so I cant really see her as any kind of improvement. sorry

One of my least favourite character types is Fratbro But You Put Him In A Fantasy Setting so Im not the biggest fan of this guy ngl. The one redeeming quality he has is that hes very obviously crushing on all of his friends bisexual style, especially Rhys and Azriel. Its almost a little sad but mostly its just very funny. Like whyd you wanna take their clothes at the illyrian camps so badly huh? You like seeing pretty boys squirm around naked?

Unfortunately, I know that hes gonna end up with Nesta and that hes not even gonna treat her well, my guy is gonna go from being gay because he likes men to being gay because he hates women and I am not looking forward to it

Speaking of Nessian, a lot of sjm critical anti nessian people say that Nesta and Cassian used to be so good and so genuinely romantic in ACOWAR and that their relationship got completely ruined in ACOSF and. I mean, granted they dont ever talk about Cassian behaviour towards Nesta during the meeting at her house in ACOMAF but I hated the way he was just so angry at her on Feyre's behalf when she wasnt even that mad herself, she just felt weird and bad. Of course, I havent read ACOWAR yet and I might change my mind in the future but right now, I'll just say it doesnt surprise me that Cassian would laugh at Nesta falling down the stairs

Azriel

My favourite guy!!! Out of this bunch I mean. My favourite guy in the entire ACOTAR series is probably Lucien, but if we're just talking about the jokers from the Night Court, then this guy is my favorite

I really wasnt expecting much from him, I thought he would have absolutely no personality from what Ive heard other people say about him, but hes basically exactly what I want in an edgy traumatized shadow boi. Ive talked about this before but I really dislike Rhysand and part of that is that I normally really like the archetype of the tortured edgy love interest with shadow powers but he makes it so goddamn annoying by being so flirty and cocky I just want to see him dead. But Azriel is quiet so he doesnt bothr me and also theres some intrigue about his backstory and the extend of his powes but he feels like a solid enough character that he doesnt become boring to me like Amren

I will say though, theres something particularly uncomfortable about watching anyone from the inner circle interact with him and vice versa, I think its because he seems like he doesnt actually like them more than anything else. Ive said this in a previous post, I think Cassian wants to be in a relationship good friends with him and he seems to think they have some good sunshine guy/grumpy guy banter going on but to me it just seems like Azriel genuinely dislikes him. And then he obviously doesnt trust Amren and I feel like hes in love with Mor and has been for a really long time but doesnt actually like her, I honestly feel like hes just sticking by Rhysand because he feels like he owes him and because it gives him an excuse to be close to his crush

Yknow, that I think about it maybe thats why I like him so much. I dont like the Inner Circle, he doesnt like the Inner Circle, thats a relatable king right there

I think this should be pretty obvious but he doesn't really get jealous very easily...

The only people he ever really gets jealous about (specifically over his s/o) are Toichiro and Kyua

With Toichiro he doesn't like how interested he seems in you even though he is like that with basically everyone...

And then you and Kyua just seem very friendly and while he is very happy about that he also...isn't

When it comes to his particular form of jealousy he just becomes a bit more protective than he usually is

Scenario:

You, (y/n) were at the lavish mansion of a handsome and fairly well known aristocrat you just so happened to have built an albeit strange, but nice friendship with. By the name of Toichiro Yuri. You were not alone of course as your lover was with you as well. He was another fairly well known man within the town you lived in. His name was Koga Kitamikado. Toichiro's valet Shizuki was there as well of course but he is less important as of the telling of this story. So the four friends (including Shizuki) had been sitting in a living room type area for some time simply discussing unimportant topics that somehow turned to a party of sorts being held in town in two days time (y/n) aka still you, had completely forgotten until it had been brought up by the not only fox like but also physically a kitsune in human form; Toichiro. A hand was placed on your knee from the fox man. "So (y/n)..." Toichiro began "I belive you have heard of the party being held in town square in just a few days am I right?" You had to think for a moment before you had fully registered his words, you than nodded in recollection of the large festival like dance to be held. "Yeah I do remember hearing about it." You stated blatantly in reply wondering not only about why he was asking given he was quite literally the one who had brought it up to you in the first place, but also because his hand was now lightly resting on your thigh. Of course you couldn't have seen it but Koga had a glare frosty enough to rival Shizuki's ice powers and was directing it at Toichiro's smug face. He, Koga than slipped you out of the foxes grasp and into his arms a frigid look still pointed at his friend. "We are going together." He told The Kitsune. The fox smiled wryly at the Oni. "Oh? I wasn't aware you had fully made your claim to her." You ended up in the middle of a slightly intense stairing contest between the two, up until Shizuki cut into the conversation. "It seems to have gotten rather late. I believe it would be best if maser Koga and Ms.(Y/n) were to get home before dark." You wordlessly thanked him and the two other males nodded in agreement, thus cutting the tension in the room. So Koga and yourself both stood up from your seets and were escorted by Shizuki to the door. Once the two of you got to your house he slipped his arm from your shoulders to your waist and leaned in for a soft and sweet, yet passionate kiss. Almost like he was trying to pour every ounce of affection he had for you straight from his heart into yours. Once you pulled away from each other he gave you a gental smile and a second small peck to your lips, and then another, and then a third. You softly sighed and leaned against him. "You know he was just teasing you." He nodded at your words a sigh leaving his lips. "I know, but I don't like it when he touches you like that." He mumbled back. Enemies to lovers. it never listed his age but im to assume he is close in age to Himiko cause he looks pretty young. At first he wanted nothing to do with her or the league. even after they joined the liberation he's on Dabi's team but they doesn't stop Himiko from "bothering" him by coming over to interact. Dabi is always off doing his thing, so it's mostly these two who are interacting on almost a daily basis. Himiko goes out of her way to see him cause i don't think even Himiko would say he isn't pretty. she wants to bite and he thinks shes a weirdo. they have this dynamic where he's always annoyed with her but sometimes she'll catch him by surprise and say something that makes him genuinely laugh, or smile like make fun of skeptic cause he looks weird and lanky. he though the same thing so they can be little gremlins together she brings out his childish side but they both can also be really mature when they need to be. Both of them are unsocialized when it comes to love so there is no hand holding on Getens part cause he simply doesn't understand that body language. Himiko probably surprise kisses him but never on the lips. Once she did on accident and then she stop talking to him for a while trying to collect her thoughts. they formed a real relationship in this war

I can see it starting with a light obsession for them, toga is fascinated with how pretty he is, with how he looks when he smiles and when he cries, she just wants to feel how it is to BE him, so at first she wants to get close to get a bite and some blood but it slowly evolves to a better dynamic. ofc he knows what she wants and was on guard at first but now it's just how they are, he pretends he resists but honestly, he loves it when she comes to "bother" him. I think they both would love in very unconventional forms considering everything they went through, their most romantic act was when Geten had to go on a mission or some fight that would last days/weeks he gave her a little bottle with his blood so she wouldn't miss him too much! they lowkey give off mgk and megan fox relationship vibes, like the thorn engagement ring and shit ?? not in a bad way just in a we're weird, emo and alternative way

Okay so, this isn’t so much an ask so much as me wanting to rant, but anyway … I have recently come across one of your posts about Yuri on Ice and decided to rewatch it and I can’t believe I almost forgot how much I love this anime!!! Like it’s everything. The way Viktor and Yuuri so clearly adore each other, the playful yet intense sensuality, the little bits of angst that are just enough to make the happy/cute moments all the sweeter, the growth we see in them over the course of the series (both as individuals and in their relationship). I just can’t believe they managed to fit something so pure and wonderful into only a dozen 20- ish minute episodes. Anyway, thank you for reminding me this show exists!

It honestly is such a beautiful show both narratively and visually and i'm STILL WAITING for the movie!

5. How many wips do you have?  What fandoms/pairings are they for?

WIPs as in things I have words for, one (my NaNo novel). WIPs as in things I have ideas for that I have put things down on paper for...two to five, including the several that are functionally abandoned, lmao. I'm not very good at having multiple WIPs, I like to start a fic and finish it before I move onto something else.

Edit: Forgot the second question: The NaNo novel is original (although it will mean nothing to you now, the pairing is Kurt Braun/Lukas Keller, my sweet sons), and the others are: one Sandman partial outline, and a couple of Yuri!!! on Ice scraplets that I should really give in and move to Scraps properly.

57. How conscious are you about including symbolism or foreshadowing in your fics?

Hahahahaaaaaa *sweats* not very. It's usually more a delightful surprise as I reread after posting, or (more stressfully) when someone points it out to me. My brain comes through for me sometimes, but it's almost entirely without input from conscious me.

Somewhat different but relatedly: in my first ever Sandman fic I made what is, in retrospect, a beautiful pun that was entirely unintentional, and I'm furious with myself still for not doing it on purpose.

I need to go to sleep, but the Delicious in Dungeon/Dungeon Meshi discussion is reminding me of Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin. When the title sounds weird in English, and the Japanese isn't too hard to grasp, I can see why people prefer the Japanese. For Dungeon Meshi I feel like it makes even more sense because Dungeon is borrowed so directly from English, so "Dungeon Meshi" is not hard to say. It's shorter, even. I get why it needed an English title, because meshi isn't a commonly known word, but I bet it'll become a lot more well known now.

1. Yuuri meets the Russians

"You're here," Yurio says the moment the door opens. "Good. Get in. Everyone is already waiting."

"Everyone?"

Yuuri pauses in unwrapping his scarf from around his neck – Victor's scarf, actually, that he grabbed on his way out in a hurry. It smells of him so distinctly that when Yuuri stops moving, the scent wraps around him like a hug. It does little to distract or comfort him, though. The dread seeps into him faster then the winter chill.

"Who's everyone? Wasn't this just supposed to be a dinner with Yakov and Lilia?"

He turns to Victor, searching for help, but Victor only shrugs. He's smiling, as he does. And smiling in a way that tells Yuuri he knows, but he isn't going to share. Yuuri is sure that if he pressed him, Victor would spill all of his sweet, sweet secrets like he always does whenever Yuuri has the confidence to try it. He can't deny Yuuri anything and Yuuri uses it to his advantage sometimes, but right now Yurio's foot is tapping on the wooden floorboards and the sense of urgency it breeds into Yuuri makes him shrug off his jacket and stuff his scarf in the arm of it almost on autopilot. He doesn't even think of pressing Victor into answering.

"Yurio, who's everyone?" Yuuri asks again when the teen begins to lead them down the hall without answering his previous questions.

"You'll see," Yurio answers, which does little to calm Yuuri's rising panic. "You're already late anyway. I swear, Victor, you're awful at this. Every single time–"

"It's not my fault this time," Victor defends himself. He slips his hand into Yuuri's as they walk and when Yuuri glances at him, he smiles in a way that he knows Yuuri finds soothing. His thumb rubs warmth into Yuuri's chilled skin and it helps to push back his nerves, if only a bit. "Makkachin didn't want to let us leave. She's growing spoiled in her age. My heart breaks whenever we have to leave her alone, but you know how Lilia is about dogs. I couldn't bring her along."

Yurio snorts. "That's why I have a cat. At least Lilia and I have good taste."

"Arguable," Yuuri adds. His mind goes to the exhibition skate after Yurio's win in the GPF and he has to bite his cheek not to grin. Somehow, this pointless conversation has managed to settle his nerves into something calmer.

Yurio throws him a glare. "Yeah, right, because your taste is so much better, Katsudon. You're marrying him," he points his chin at Victor, who grins brightly at Yuuri when he looks to his fiancé, "you're just as bad. If not worse, and I'd say definitely worse."
