this particular oc was made a year ago then left in the dust until like 2 weeks earlier where i got @autumn-sweet-fae into WHA and now we both have a massive brainrot over the multiple ocs we made, it started as two, then spiraled into a whole extended family.

ok maybe a little bit of context:

Veera (short haired one, belongs to me) is a witch with a double identity, working as a knight during the day and a brim during the night. Shes is quite well liked by most people with her laid back personality, but no one is particularly close to her, many describe her as always smiling yet unreadable.

Edith (one with the bun, belongs to @autumn-sweet-fae) on the other hand, was an unknowing who held a disdain against magic. Growing up in a noble house, she studied art, medicine and tinkered and designed many contraptions that are way ahead of her time so that she wouldn’t need to rely on magic. However, she was exiled from her family and now lives near a small village, where she adopted 3 orphans. Her contraptions did lead to rumors of a witch without a record in the assembly. One day, she opens her front door to a witch knight, who happened to be Veera :)

Yeah!! That's something I've been thinking about for quite a while :] I think it'll take some trial and error to figure out sizing, but I hope I'll be able to offer harnesses for all sorts of sizes/body shapes

i promise you that he wouldn't. he doesn't take cases unless they're interesting; most of us are not "interesting" - he significantly prefers patients on the verge of death . if he did take your case he would be quite willing to run experimental treatments on you that violate your directives and those of your medical proxies for his own amusement (in the episode i watched most recently, he uses a racial slur to distract a teen patient's parents long enough to get the teen into a procedure they didn't consent to). if you die, he won't care. if your treatment disables you, he won't care or feel guilty (in another episode i watched recently, they fried a patient's entire long-term memory on purpose and then discovered that they had initially misdiagnosed him and that this was not a necessary treatment).

like we're all out here joking. some of the best episodes of house are ones where he's faced with patients who are willing to bite back, where house's nastiness becomes one of his less effective tools and the opportunity for patients to exert agency. but this is very RARE. while house is a brilliant diagnostician, IF he is interested. he is not, actually, a good doctor!

I think I accidentally made an Aleduncan AU where Alejandro is a witch and Duncan is an outlaw

#so basically #Alejandro saves duncan from being put to death #alejandro lets duncan stay with him for a couple months while he heals his wounds #they kinda get FEELINGS for each other during that time period because neither of them see many people around and they're both lonely #alejandro tells duncan about his plan to create a divine being #they part ways after a while #duncan returns a few months later to find alejandro being burnt at the stake (bc he's a witch yk) #so he runs to alejandro's woodland cottage and finds a letter left for him #in the note alejandro leaves a set of instructions/explanations and a map #because he hid a giant statue in the forest along with some of his body parts using magic #so duncan sets off to find the statue and the body parts #(he's pretty determined because there was a note on the letter that read “If you couldn't save me then at least save my offspring”) #he feels like he owes alejandro for saving him #he brought the note with him incase it had clues #when he got to the life-size statue of alejandro in all his glory #he broke open the hollow torso to find a small manticore #which alejandro made using magic combined with his own flesh and blood #duncan also finds ANOTHER note that explains how he needs to find each of the organs alejandro hid around the vast forest #and feed them to the baby manticore #to increase it's powers #this could be such a banger AU if I actually put effort in #this keeps sounding dumber as I write about it #I just wanted to draw alejandro as a pretty witch #I love aleduncan because I can make bullshit like this about it #I came up with this while listening to “Bernadette” by IAMX #I just wanted to toss this dumb little idea out there #td alejandro #td duncan #aleduncan #total drama

I finally put my altar up for Circe and got the go ahead to share it! I am very proud of it! I decoupaged a thrift store find with images of her, painted the insides with four shades of gold, added a tassel, and rigged up hooks on the bottom to hang the pig suede altar cloth using yarn I braided (braids are one of her things). I am especially happy to have been able to source a piece of old European wolf pelt from a friend! The lion candle holder was a cool find, and I already had that massive sunstone pig carving that fits nicely. I’ll probably add more to it and swap some things around occasionally, but it came out how I hoped it would! More importantly, it got her stamp of approval c:

But. We hear more than once in this episode that she is too young. For love and for knowing antyhing about it. So yeah, few years older Vivian, more mature, not so rude but still annoying. Perfect paring with Leon. You know hate-love relationship.

caveat that a lot of this info is very possibly stuff I made up literally this month bc I only had the vaguest idea of how soul magic worked before starting on this particular story (ie the box for it in the twinery thing where I keep all my worldbuilding legit just has the world it comes from in it and nothing else lmao ^^; )

The vague in-text explanation we get is thus;

“Users power their spells with their lifeforce,” Jasper said. “Its main applications are healing and interrogation, but it can also be used to create locks and the like that are fine-tuned to a specific person.”

which is very rough but honestly it covers the basics. Jasper knows what he's about

When he says locks, I'm meaning like... biometric kinda scans only I couldn't remember the word when I wrote that. I may go back and write that in actually.

The other thing it can do that is like. the main part of the plot of this story is that the mages can use it to control other people! They're getting other people caught for their crimes!!

Mostly when a soul mage uses their magic, they're relying on their own life to power it. So many soul mages burn out early because they don't get the exchange right, or they just use their magic too freely. If a soul mage is old it means that either

a) they don't use magic a lot

b) they know the best exchange rates for spells (eg smaller spells will take less life)

c) they largely use it via aids such as gems and older spells that have been sunk into items for general use

or

d) they tie their spells to someone else's life.

d is why soul mages tend to have a pretty bad rep amongst the wider mist worlds. They're not as bad as green witches in general but hoo boy.

sometimes!! sometimes tying their spells to something else is useful. This is how you get the healing; you convince the hurt person's body to heal itself gotdamn quicker and if they maybe get a year or so knocked off their life in the process they probably won't notice. Can they siphon off other people's lives to extend theirs? uh. technically. yes. that's the plot of another story (sort of)*.

This is how you get the biometric locks and other fun trinkets that non-mages can use; you set the spell into the lock or the item or whatever and give it a trigger phrase or motion which can be used by anyone. Biometrics will ofc only work for like the one person, but anything else is just dependant on the person knowing the phrase or the motion. Using an item with soul magic in it is obvious - Solaris likens the feeling to a sudden weakness at one point and doesn't like using it. You can fully faint while using soul magic if you're not used to it sort of thing.

This is how you get the interrogation; no one likes having their soul poked at ok. it feels gross. they can and will rifle through your memories. Sometimes they ask for consent first (it could also be a therapy tool, I guess) but holy fuck it's tricky to do without damaging anything. Weirdly this is a fine-wire one that tends to fall more on the mage's life being the one used up because they're still the one using the magic. They could tip it the other way, but then they run the risk of like. killing the subject before they get anything useful.

The controlling-other-people part of the magic is less well known which is why everyone is so fucken stumped by the shenanigans that start this story. It's like. fairytale kinda nonsense. "the soul mage made me do it" to the tune of "the boy who cried wolf", you know?

But that one is tied to the victim's life and can be set as intricately as the mage likes. Most people never know they've even been controlled, although they'll have li'l missing screeds of time where they've just blanked the fuck out and then come to, maybe in another place with no knowledge of how they got there

noticeably it does not work well on fully bonded ferals bc they have two souls and not everyone knows this. The mage that goes after Jasper fucks up by just suppressing his human soul to make him lose the fight and uh. well. buddy's got a lynx soul in there as well, and the lynx has access to fire. That one may have backfired (lmao) on the mage that set the spell, but I'm not sure yet

The other fucked up casefile I have is Elise who is the target the soul mages are trying to get ahold of in this story bc she has a green witch sharing her body who fucked herself over by attempting to use soul magic when she was already dying. There's a timeshare going on. The soul mages stabilised them and would like the experiment back, thank you very much, but because of the stabilisation thingy-majiggy, soul magic no longer affects them. Elise would like the timeshare broken, the green witch is fairly sure she'd die in that case and Does Not Want that, no thank you. They are however both agreed that they're not letting the soul mages get their grubby little paws on them. The soul mages would like her back because literally no one can work out how the fuck she managed to make that happen. like. the only other beings that have two souls are fully bonded feral mages and uh. demons. I think is how Skilkran is classed anyway. but yeah Elise is decidedly neither like damn she's just a girl who turns into a witch when night falls.

(soul magic probably could affect them, the parameters of the spells just need to be set properly but no one's actually thought of that yet. or maybe they have but it's been since they escaped so they haven't had a chance to test the theory)

anyway! yes! soul magery! it was uhhhh it was born out of a dumb joke with brother#2 because the first time I wrote it the magic was set in the saxophone of a dude who was playing um. soul music.

that scene still exists within The Soul of the Party because there are no depths I will not sink to for a dumb joke.

*this is Mint of Red String, they may have had a bad break up with a soul mage in their youth and the soul mage reacted by uh. cursing them to drain the life of whoever fell in love with them? That gets broken with the power of polyamory and also maybe necromancy because fuck yes the gays are winning this one.

i've seen comments about airi not being the "true" savior because of makia reincarnated from earth which counts her as "from another world" which is kind of true, but ultimately false.

#.txt #some notes abt this dream: chromia was underground right next to a deep dark #ancient city . whatever #there was constantly a warden on the loose that had been nicknamed something starting with an s? #i don’t remember the exact name #the warden kept like. saying shit? that kinda sounded like nonsense iirc but it freaked scott out #and it would never attack scott through walls fsr #katherine fwhip and i think pix? came along to kill the warden for scott #scott went running and was found by jimmy (inexplicably in his normal skin not the sheriff one) #and jimmy had a dog with him? or a cat? a Pet #and at first he was being nice all concerned for scott but then he suddenly started being mean and saying the same stuff #as the warden completely out of nowhere #he was also randomly wearing a realistically rendered witch hat now that i think about it #how did i think this dream was real #also that’s not notes i did just describe the whole dream #OH i forgot the random egyptian architecture #and the fact that chromia looked a bit like a mix between itself and gobland #which probably had something to do with it being underground #but since fwhip showed up at one point i think it can be assumed that gobland is still a seperate place #also the deep dark had glowing blue mushrooms in it

I do wonder if the homonculi are going to be at all related to whatever the hell Balder was doing in the first game where we saw a bunch of questionable sciency stuff in his tower.

#like on the one hand man made bio weapons are a bit out there #for a game that's mostly about slapping around the divine for a living #but it's not *that* out there #it's a very different aesthetic #man-made doesn't necessarily mean magic isn't involved. Witches sages or other #I'm not sure if Viola is properly a witch. Couldn't quite tell whether Jeanne was trapped in her time magic #Jeanne and Bayonetta are immune to each other's witch time #Viola also isn't summon demons or using wicked weaves. So I'd lean towards at the very least not an umbra #idk how I feel about her design it's also a very different aesthetic #which is both exciting and...'hmm' as in 'where are we going with this extremely different aesthetic' #like Loki didn't fit. The whole tarot cards wasn't an aesthetic I liked at all #and Bayo 2 felt very much like. Bayonetta was there but it wasn't her story she was just along for the ride #which sucked.
