what was your inspiration for your current wip? did it evolve into something different after you started writing it or did it stay like you planned? which character do you feel like is closest to yourself?

Currently, I'm writing a high fantasy called the Book of the Owl, nothing is shared online for it though.
My inspiration for it was originally from when I was a child, and super interested in all sorts of magic and human culture. I developed an entire world, and entire calendar and several belief systems for it. Everything I designed was pulled from all different cultures, and then changed to reflect the world that I was putting it into.
For example, the old world in the book of the Owl followed a calendar with 8 seasons per year, each year corresponding to a certain animal (8 years in total for one iteration). It was inspired by the Chinese zodiac. The animals in the Book of the Owl are in order as: owl, bear, spider, fox, frog, serpent, mountain lion, and raven. Each animal contains its own meaning and symbols, colours etc. Respectfully, the seasons in each year that corresponded to an animal were: Frost, Melt, Budding, Blooming, Storming, Scorching, Harvest, and Deadfall.
In later years, the new world (the world my characters are a part of when the story takes place) the old calendar is replaced with a Common Man's Years, and counts base ten like ours.
It was so hard to count with a base eight number system that I eventually started just counting out the years on a spreadsheet and I spent many hours figuring out when characters were born.
Everything has changed since I started developing the world and the characters, but 2 things remained the same.
Our main character Enid who is 13 and summoned to become a Mage (their magic depends on being able to use the old calendar and know it's symbolic nature) he has always been naive and found herself in various troubling situations.
And my other main character Yamin who is 46 and must teach Enid the ways of the old world magic. He is very troubled himself; his predecessor was very abusive toward him and caused him to become a drug addict. So when he is given this responsibility of taking care and teaching Enid, he is understandably out of his depth and must heal before anything good can come out of their relationship as student and master.
Together, they have to find a way to survive as the new religion has decided to persecute them for their powers. :O
Enid was originally a self insert. Now, she is definitely her own person, and I've come to see some parts of both of them within me.
This was probably too much information. Haha.
Let me know if anyone wants me to share a snippet.
I plan to put it on Betabooks when I finish all the final edits.

Don't know where else to post this but I'm opening commissions because I:
1. Need money for cigarettes (and food, of course.)
2. Want to get my mind off of my cat by drawing. My precious and favorite cat, Mia, had died suddenly on Tuesday and it's still a mystery of how she passed.
3. Need to keep busy
And 4. I have no ideas but a lot of motivation.
DM for information!

While we're still in February, here's the full art for IndieAlpaca's Valentines vid! (An Animal Crossing parody of a certain infamous Sonic Top 10 video kjdghdhf)
This is motivated and inspired by my recent "Hop on Halo 3" piece with Digby and Lopez 💘
It was a pleasure doing the art-to-be-used for the video's thumbnail!
