Hi BPP! Do you think the backlash to Set Me Free Pt2 is going to negatively impact Jimin’s solo career at all? I knew antis were going to bark, but I’m honestly taken aback by how widespread the hate is, to the point it’s making it back to the people who worked with him. I’m also seeing streams and sales drop a bit more than I was expecting. Now looking at places like Reddit, the hype for his album has really dropped. That’s probably a terrible place to gauge reaction, but it does have me a bit worried. I know the negativity for like Dynamite was really bad, but that was a song catered to the GP with the entire weight of all of ARMY behind it, and Jimin definitely doesn’t have that, so I’m worried this negativity will actually impact him. (The song is a straight up masterpiece to me btw, my sincerest hope is that he gets some critical recognition for it, or recognition from opinions he cares about. I really want to see him keep experimenting with music like this and to know how much so many of us love it!)
***
Hi Anon,
This is the last ask I'll respond to on this topic, because though I don't share the same fear, I recognize many of you feel nervous right now for understandable reasons and I don't want to dismiss your concerns outright.
Story time.
D-2 by Agust D was released on May 22, 2020. Right away the mixtape was a hit in the fandom and most ARMYs (not all, it's a solo project after all) supported it. As soon as it was released, k-pop stans went to work and I honestly found it amusing how methodical they were: they started from the top of the tracklist to the bottom - they first claimed Moonlight was plagiarized, the accusation didn't stick; then they claimed Daechwita was plagiarized, that too didn't stick. Then they got to the third track What Do You Think, and they hit the jackpot. You see, the initial recording of WDYT included a sampled excerpt of Jim Jones' speech, and once that was discovered, it was like hate bomb went off lol. The hate, ridicule, and bad faith was so intense and so widespread, I recall many ARMYs had to deactivate their accounts. Before long, k-pop stans were claiming Yoongi had told an insider that he wanted to kill black people and queer Korean people...
Anyway the point is, the backlash on Yoongi was swift, brutal, and harsh, understandably. Jim Jones has been sampled several times in music, in fact Post Malone put out an album around that time that explicitly referenced Jonestown, and it's very likely Yoongi or the people in his team were inspired by Post Malone's album and sought to include a similar feel and connection in his mixtape. In fact Agust D's Set Me Free directly pulls sonically from the album. But as with all things k-pop, cultural references get lost in translation and the weight of that decision was significant in the aftermath. BigHit released a statement and apology, and the song was re-released without the sample.
Now we're in March 2023, do you think this event negatively affected Yoongi's solo projects and career? Perhaps it did, k-pop stans still fume that Yoongi never apologized nor accepted blame for it, but by the end of 2020 I saw no indication Yoongi had been worse off for it. Partly because of ARMYs' support, but mostly because k-pop stans had gotten their pound of flesh with a humbling and an apology, and had moved on to the next target for critical discourse (which funnily enough was Dynamite by BTS).
It sounds crude and cynical to say it like this, and it's possible I could be wrong, but I've observed this pattern too many times over too many years for me to think otherwise.
Hopefully I don't have to say this more than once, but please listen when I tell you that so long as a project comes from a BTS member, the default inclination of most k-pop stans is to hate it. Nearly all the hate you're seeing for Jimin's Set Me Free Pt 2 was nearly guaranteed to begin with, the autotune just made it easy as the excuse. I mean, there's a whole subset of k-pop fandoms who believe he can't sing despite years of proof to the contrary. Since 2018 (precisely after BTS was awarded the Cultural Order of Merit award), the best case scenario from k-pop stans towards music released by BTS, is for them to ignore it. If you're expecting any other reaction from k-pop stans besides avoidance or hate, you're hoping for too much. Personally, I don't think it's a big deal, but I do think you need to calibrate your expectations to the reality of the environment you're in. It's one reason ARMYs are so fervent in their support of BTS.
There are differences between Yoongi's case and Jimin's. Firstly, Yoongi was already a respected producer outside of traditional k-pop and had avenues besides idol music to further that work, while Jimin appears to want to operate as a k-pop idol firmly within this system which requires winning over and maintaining the support of k-pop stans. So in a nutshell, Jimin is more exposed to the fickleness of k-pop stans than Yoongi is, but at the same time, Jimin does appear to have a larger committed base of solo fans than Yoongi, so let's say most of that risk cancels out for now.
The solo era also complicates things because the biggest antis of the members, are akgaes of other members. In Chapter 2 the support for each member from the fandom is more fractured now, that's true. But I think going by Jimin's case at least, the core of the fandom is still firmly supportive of their projects.
If you're still concerned, what can you do?
Remember that a lot of what you see online doesn't translate into real life. As an example, when a portion of RUN BTS (the song) was leaked last year, k-pop fans were tearing it down, saying it sounded like crap and was autotuned to death. By the end of 2022, k-pop stans were saying RUN BTS should have been the title track for Proof, that it was one of the best songs released by BTS and the song showed up in multiple stans' Spotify Wrapped...
Remember that most of these people hate as a hobby and are content to simply kick up a stink before moving on to the next thing. And in k-pop that typically happens in a matter of weeks.
Remember that your own view ultimately matters most. How do you feel about Set Me Free Pt 2? What do you like and dislike about it? How do you feel about the ideas Jimin is communicating in his song? I've said before that hate is contagious. All it does is inspire more of the same. You can counteract that spread by focusing on the music and the artist. Celebrate Jimin and the bits about him and his music that you love. Joy is infectious too, and if you're feeling his sound, people will notice. And more importantly, you'll be happier and less worried.
Like with previous solo releases, ARMYs might hit or miss their goals. There's a lot about the charts that have changed since 2021, leaving a lot of it up to chance, unfortunately. I suggest you focus on doing your part. The fandom isn't trying to sabotage Jimin, and Jimin is not releasing music to get specific chart placements to begin with. ARMYs will support as best they can, panic-buy at the last minute (lol), and Jimin will still succeed regardless of the outcome. He has already made his mark. I'm not saying this to placate you, that's what I genuinely think.
If you'd like more gp support, then share his music with those around you. Jimin's a great artist and I'm convinced anyone who listens to him without prejudice will be intrigued at the very least. They might not like his sound or his voice, but he will leave an impression. Your enthusiasm will too. And many times that's more than enough.
*
With Like Crazy's release this Friday, if it's a conventional pop track, expect a rebound in reactions from k-pop stans. I expect many to say things like 'he should've released this first' or something to that effect. That too has a playbook but I've rambled enough already.
What I'm trying to say is, Jimin isn't new to hate. Unfortunately, I suspect he knows, more than anyone else, the backlash he was likely to receive putting out a song like that. And that makes the song all the more powerful and perfect in my mind. In my initial review of Set Me Free Pt 2 I said I wasn't going to talk about the lyrics and message, and I still won't. All I'll say is I think it's a good idea to take Jimin seriously. There's nothing to be gained fretting about k-pop stans, focus instead on Jimin. He's worked too hard and already done such a phenomenal job, for any of us to be distracted by something as inconsequential as k-pop stan chatter.
It's only March. We still have the rest of the year and further out to leave an impact with his music.
In my opinion.

Do you have any thoughts about this?
The amount of Korean and Japanese fans around this post makes me think what he said here is a big deal for them but I don’t really undestand
Why can’t I speak korean or Japanese😭
Anon, the wlive has subtitles now, it's pretty accurate to what is written here in the post.
Overall, Jimin is doing some self criticism, mostly in regard to his March promotions. I'm not surprised because he's a perfectionist, but I also think he's being way too hard on himself.
Of course there are no specific details mentioned, but it looks like he's choosing a different approach for his next project, like starting from scratch?
Jimin doesn't seem satisfied with his performance during Face and I wonder exactly what he means by that. I'm not saying this must be it, but could be in part about that time when he sounded a bit bad during a music show encore? At that time, I suspected it would get to him because he seems like the type of person to obsess over every little detail. Again, a perfectionist.
All I want to say is that I found the entire thing ridiculous. So what if he sounded bad at that exact time? It doesn't make him a bad singer and it doesn't erase all the other many times in which he's doing a damn good job. But this is kpop and kpop stans must act horribly and that's the way it is.
I'd also like to point out that BH is primarily at fault here for not providing professional singing lessons to the idols. It's unheard of and outrageous. It should be really high up on the list of priorities. I can only assume Jimin practiced all on his own. Just as they have choregraphers, singing teachers should be there as well. We've seen how Jimin had to ask to listen in to JK and Tae practicing and even years later, getting help from Jungkook. That's not right. It's cool that they are helping each other, but they should also have a professional on standby.
Anyway, it's fine that he has a desire for professional self improvement. It seems that he found a better formula and I can't wait to see what he comes up with. It looks like team Jimin is back in the practice room so maybe we don't have to wait too long 👀

Fri(end)s had SUCH radio potential. And it has gotten some play (Organic King) but if BH had actually pushed it for radio play, it could have been dominating.
I could even see the gimmick of playing him and JK back to back or in the same segment.
Ok lil secret about me: I have been doing radio in the UK as a side hustle since I was 15 so just under 30 years, god I'm ancient. Note: I do primarily behind the scenes stuff now. So I love radio discussion.
I gotta say I was BAFFLED but also unsurprised. I was really excited when I heard it because I was like ok yeah Layover was so niche, so jazzy but this is RADIO-Y.
The current hits stations (Capital, Radio 1 in the UK) should have been picking it up. A high profile artist with a fully English song (which unfortunately matters 🙄) that isn't like an overtly niche genre? It should really be there!
I don't think I'd have expected it to go to the A or B playlist, honestly. A playlist is usually reserved for like a couple of the HUGEST songs. Regular play during the day, once every couple of hours though it varies station to station. B playlist would be maybe three times a day.
I am not certain but Seven peaked at 3 in the UK charts and I think it was B playlist on Radio 1. Again, not entirely sure.
C playlist is likely once a day and that's where I'd expect Friends to go.
But it's currently not on Radio 1 or Capital playlists at all. 🙃
The trouble is current hits radio stations want to play what's popular and not what could be popular with support. There's no taking a chance on a great song anymore. Radio used to set the trends, now they follow them according to what's popular on tiktok. It's kind of sad.
Also kind of terrible marketing by the radio stations?! Everyone knows ARMY supports people who support us. I think they're fools not to play music with such high profiles and dedicated fanbase.
I think there's a reason and I think it's racism. Kpop artists fight a battle to be seen as anything other than kpop. I can only speak about the UK but I was literally in a store the other day trying to check prices on Face album and it took me ten minutes to realise Jimin wasn't under J. He was literally just under K-pop. As were BTS themselves. Like all of kpop was one artist! When they're fighting that kind of silliness, the songs aren't being judged on quality or voice or genre. They're just kpop and that's a niche radio isn't investing in despite kpop being made up of many genres and styles. Korean isn't a genre, UK music industry 😐
That said, Jungkook did pretty well with a peak in the top ten for all three singles from Golden. So how come he got decent play? I think that might come down to the very commercial sound - absolutely not a critique, I love it - of his music.
But I also think Tae is fighting more internal issues of general nonsense from his label. Basically it's an uphill struggle and I'm so proud of what he has achieved despite those issues. 💜
Ooh I loved answering this. Thank you, anon! 💜

Hey drabs,
Firstly, I'm so sorry for my whack English for it's my second language. And I know this is an ask box, but this is the only way I know to send you message anonymously in case this message sounded cringier than what's in my head. lol.
I wanted to say that I hope everything is going well for you because I know that looking for a job these days feels like looking for diamond in a gold mine, which basically almost impossible and I myself is also looking for a job.
And also, I wanted to share a few things in case you get ghosted by the company after weeks of the interview.
1. Have you ever tried Glints or LinkedIn? I don't know what your line of work but perhaps you want to try to apply through those two apps maybe?
2. If the point above still doesn't work, perhaps you should try internship first. I got my first job right after graduating high school because my mentor saw my works are good enough and he recommend me to his boss. But then again, these kinda things are also based on luck, and not to mention that most companies don't pay their intern, so hopefully we don't have to use this tips.
I also wanted to share somethings that helped me to stay sane and during times like that.
1. Don't forget to eat and stay hydrated. As long as you stay hydrated and not hungry, you'll be more focused on the questions the interviewer asked.
2. Don't stay up late. Same goes like the point above, you'll be more focus and have more energy if you sleep enough. And If you're a night owl like me, well... don't forget to drink coffee after you woke up. lol.
3. After all the interviews done for the day, don't forget to reward yourself. Regardless of what happened or whether or not you're accepted, don't forget to reward yourself. It doesn't have to be something grand, something small can do. For me, I usually eat my comfort food that is those korean instant ramen or have a little gaming session.
I know these stuff are basically generic, but I just wanted you to know that no matter what, you are awesome. Sending you all my support and hugs, good luck Drabs ❤
Hey anon! Oh my goshhh first of all, thank you so much for this. It's been a rough few months, exhausting really. I received your message right after I finished my interview, and I know it sounds lame, but it almost made me cry! To know that you care enough about me to leave me this message is so heart warming. So. Thank you. ❤
Your English is wonderful, please don't ever apologize for that and this message is not cringe at all, FAR from it. I'm saving this ask!
I haven't tried Glints or LinkedIn yet. It's also the first time I've heard of Glints, so I might give it a shot. Thank you for the tip! I'll go check it out. My usual method has been applying for jobs on JobStreet.
Glad to hear your mentor was really impressed by your works!!! ❤ I did have an internship before, but the company where I had my internship in ran out of budget for our department so they weren't hiring. Plus, my supervisor from there also resigned. And I was also the unpaid intern!
I keep forgetting to stay hydrated. Yesterday, the interviewer made us wait for an hour and twenty minutes before the interview started and no one would tell us what was happening. I was so thirsty, it was embarrassing. Not to mention I had a fever, yikes. Hope you're staying hydrated on your job hunt too ❤
Ughhgghh I am a night owl too and I absolutely hate it, anon. I love it, but I also hate it? You know what I mean. I am looking into night shift options though. My friends who work the graveyard shift tell me it's disorienting. Maybe we should consider it, what with us being night owls and all? Hm.
Yes!! A quick gaming session does wonders for my anxiety after an interview. That, or I play some music really loud to tune out my thoughts for the day. Or I just lay in bed. Pet my cat. Read fanfiction. Go on tumblr. And now, I have this ask to go back to too ❤ It's the small wins, for sure. I'm happy to hear you give yourself these small rewards too ❤
Anon, this means a lot to me. Grinned like an idiot reading your tips. And please, take your own advice too. Stay hydrated, do things that make you happy, try to get 8 hours of sleep, and take care of yourself. I sincerely hope you're doing great, staying healthy, and are loved. World's tough. Really tough. You've got me in your corner, anon! Sending you hugs!!!! And all my love ❤❤❤

[the anon from the "not-a-company-stan" answer] in the age where artists are getting their fame from tiktok (ice spice comes to mind) this idea of being in a notorious company really fades. there are artists in big companies that get nothing (be it kpop or apop), and artists without a company that go viral and famous and rich. ice spice has put out more music and getting more promo (a song in the barbie movie) in a shorter amount of time than some artists that have been stuck in a notorious label for years with no album (chloe, normani). i think it's just outdated to think an idol has to stay with their group company. blackpink didn't, CBX didn't, DO didn't, LAY didn't. they are proving it's perfectly doable to stay with their group work in their previous company but manage their own solo work separately. it seems a new paradigm is coming and idols aren't afraid to do what's best for them with the fear of being blacklisted by sm. i don't think they would take their solos elsewhere if sm was handling them well. there must be a good reason to leave for other companies, going as far as setting up a new whole company for themselves. in bp's case it's obvious, everyone knows that yg blocked work offers for the members, and they are huge now, so staying would be detrimental. if companies were stepping up and doing the best for an idol's solo work then they wouldn't leave, right? that's what sounds logical to me. also sm is so shady financially speaking lmao. maybe i don't pay taxes cuz i don't qualify for it, but i am trusting CBX knows what's best for them when they choose to leave. and if jaedo ever leaves with their solo work, i will know they are doing the best for themselves too cuz they know their reality better than we do.
Didn't I just say that staying with one's own company is not always the best solution? That both being in a big company and moving to a smaller company has its downsides? Where did I say that companies always do the best for their idols? Show me in my texts.
Lay was supported by LSM financially, he was given a company by him, plus Chinese market is a different from Korea thing. In the first place Lay left because of the Chinese ban on Korean companies and Korean idols. Lay had limited number of days he could leave his country. Do you know to what lengths Lay needs to go, how much to work, to stay relevant? Suju got their own Label SJ, but it was merged back to the main SM. BP members have the fame. They were approached by other companies and investors, them running their own companies for real is for PR. And we need time to see how well they will do. Though I agree, they will do better without YG.
TikTok fame is short-lived. While BoA is one of the richest woman among idols and will produce the upcoming SM gg.
I stated before that it is not always the right choice to stay with the company. I agree on that. However, fans like to say their bias needs to go all the time, with and without a reason for it. Changing a company is a big risk, a new beginning. And there are very few successful stories.
Just yesterday I watched a debut video of Yang Dongwha. I liked it. The video is good, the song as well, the concept. Apaprently, he was a winner of an idol-show and was supposed to debut in a group, but was evicted due to surfaces rumours about his behaviour in school. He changed companies. He was mistreated by his original company, he had the reason to start anew. He debuted. Good for him.
Now, back to Taeyong and JaeDo. Tae got two solos in a span of a year. With his own songs. Does he need to leave SM? JaeDo, a gay couple, got themselves a unit with only one additional member, Jaehyun can flirt with his bae openly without a break during their promotion. Both will get solos in 2024. Do they need to leave this year? Before enlisting and a break away from the public of 2 years?
SM is not just executives who steal money, it's personelle. Managers, choreographers, make up artists, songwriters and in-house producers like Kenzie and Deez - all those people who have seen neos grow up, who like them and go drinking with them, to whom neos send presents and go to their weddings, who can go an extra mile and write a personal song (Kenzie, MinGtion) or make BA ugly clothes presentable, fit to elevate the idol they like. It's a community. To uproot and go elsewhere is to leave most of them behind, start from scratch, waste years of earned advantage.
Ten recently said he doesn't know his schedule, he wakes up and goes where his manager tells him. You think it's because he is kept in the dark? Somehow Do knows his own schedule better than his own manager. No, it's because an idol has a ton of things to do, there is no room for other things like learning lore or itirenary.
Self-managing, being a CEO of one own's company sounds fancy, but what does it entail? Lay attened a business school, mind you. Where is the guarantee the financial guys you'll hire won't steal money from you? Or that the new producer will allow you creative freedom? Investors are the same, they want money, not art.
How many labels Jessi has changed?
It is known that right now SM is lacking personelle, it is in a transitional period. The dividion into centres, and tuning those centres will take time. Those, who can't wait or whom managers left to produce for newer groups, have reason to find a new team outside to manage their solo activities. Again, without breaking off of the awful SM completely. Kyuhyun was present on the last SMTown, what gives?
We don't know the future. SM can really change for the worse. However, currently it is far from the worst company to be in. Music wise the best among the biggest ones.

people have a right to be upset at them and almost every atiny I have seen on twt is not dropping them, simply wanting to let them know how problematic that song is (even though they really should know given how racist the lyrics are) so don’t know why you’re acting like people can’t be upset & disappointed, especially since the vast majority is not dropping them at all
where the fuck did i make it seem like people can't be upset and disappointed ??? get off anon and face me coward ass bitch, let's get things straight face to face
i saw desitinys being affected and ofc i want them to bave justice. but the rest of twtiny are acting on their hero complex and started this mob mentality, demanding shit not only from kq and ateez but also from other atinys. now i get that boundaries are blurred through technology, but i personally don't like how entitled they all sound. the most upset people in the app were not even desi and that should say something. you do know that those people said that those who are going to the fansign in taiwan should give their time to address the issues directly to the boys but when a statement or apology comes, they shouldn't comment on it. now i understand the not accepting the apology if you're not desi part but to actually want to intentionally cause distress to the boys esp san in the middle of tour ??? wow. i'll explain my logic if anyone don't understand why i said causing distress in the middle of tour.
and pertaining to the song, i didn't know it was culturally insensitive by looking at the lyrics and i read, speak, and understand korean. It took me EXTENSIVE research to understand what was wrong and i made that realization in the middle of another kpop idol's controversy over the same song. so even to the broad public, this is not common knowledge bc i don't see people who fawn over norazo's music much and i don't go around everyday searching "racist thing people do today", i literally got better things to do. not to mention, this is not a big news in korea so ofc not everyone remembers or knows or understand what's going on. what they know is that due to modernization and advancement of technology, they are being demanded in the worst possible way to accept, understand, acknowledge, and automatically know about every single culture in this world but is not being given the help or understanding or even time to adjust. and what do you expect from a homogenous society ??? do you think in a fast-paced, no fucks given country everyone is atuned to every single cultural issue in this world ??? are YOU aware that malaysians claimed that some indonesian heritage belong to them and even got singapore to say the same in middle school textbooks ? Even I had just found this out not 2 months ago because i was engaging in the context of the issue. my point is that even you are unaware of cultural issues despite it hurting me because it's not your job to instantly know, it's my job to let you know i'm hurt and explain why. difference is, you're a coward son of a bitch hiding behind anon so i can't even start to create awareness of what hurr me. i'm not excusing anyone's behaviour bc ofc if people are hurt, the party who caused said hurt should definitely apologize and take action. but circumstances need to be seen too.
san is now being called racist or doing racist behaviour, people are demanding ateez to halt any and all activities to apologize, they're demanding other atinys to shut up but follow along. like i have a problem with the way the issue is addressed but not with the fact that the issue itself exisr. i have NEVER said no one should be upset, literally where even the fuck ???? but as you are expecting them to be more open and understanding, you too must be open and understanding that things slipped their minds, there are not much available resources in korea and people who seem so very keen on "educating" does not seem to want to educate in korean which would've been better since it bridges communication and can maybe achieve something. it's hard work trying to make people more aware but it's even harder when it's done in anger and entitlement.
Even after kq released an apology and acknowledgement of the situation, tw"tinys" still demand apology and it's up to 3 members now. who the fuck is even the other one, i don't fuckimg know but you see how this now seem like a fucking witch hunt ? It's not even about the awareness anymore.
I can go on about why this shit happens, i still have A LOT of points i can make. let me know and i'll educate you both in reading comprehension and about the issue.

I'll try to keep this short ❤️ I love this album so much 🥺 And I think I told you that Alone would destroy me and it really did... And it's also my favorite from the album. I can't really explain what I feel when I listen to it, but I always have this tightness in my chest. I had it when I first listened to it and I had a feeling the lyrics would make me cry and they did. It really brings me back to my quarantine days... and not to the better ones. It really has that choking, depressing feeling that quarantine had. I really love his singing in the song too 🥺 He sounds amazing, so gentle, so soft, and yet very strong (I'm literally contradicting myself but anyway)
I really liked Like Crazy too. The mv was amazing, and I read so many theories. Most of them were kinda the same, you know with the woman also representing him. Both the English and Korean versions were done so well 🥺 interlude: dive ❤️ his introduction from the busan concert❤️ oh, and the transition between the songs? Him having a drink at the end of dive, and then like crazy having this "being intoxicated in a club" vibe, and alone starting with an alarm clock... I'm obsessed with this. Also I'm SO SAD letter is only on CD 😭😭 Like I understand why, but Jimin 😭 It's my second favorite from the album, and after listening and crying to Alone, I cried to Letter too 💔 The parallels with blue & grey 😭 Shivi, the urge to get a lyric tattoo from alone or letter 😭
Also I still don't know if he's singing "please me" during Like Crazy and we will never know and it will bother me forever 😂 But anyway. He did such an amazing job, I'm so happy he could finally release this album. And I'm so happy he said he got to overcome and heal from these feelings.
Ps. Let Jimin curse on TV okay thanks that's all ❤️ -🦋
putting it under read more bc i rambled lol <3
i love it so much too 🥺 oh and same, alone took me back to my own quarantine days 😭 i was stuck at a relative's place for three months and my aunt wasn't very good to me. i used to cry alone a lot and that was when i had found bangtan :( they really saved me :( and alone took me back to all of those feelings i went through back then before I found bangtan 😭 everyone's stories are so different but im sure so many people related to alone 🥺 (and no i get what you mean by gentle and soft yet so strong, and i agree) i absolutely LOVED face off too. his voice in face off his so addicting and those high notes damn 😭
and like crazy is a fckin bop ✋🏼 RIIIIGHHTTTT i loved the mv too the colours in the mv .. *chef's kiss* (this is me speaking from a gifmaker perspective btw, i thought the mv would be impossible to colour properly but I had so much fun colouring it and I was satisfied w the results gdhfhdjhfdj ANYWAY thats not the point fghdjfhj) AND PLS TEH THEORIES. SO GENIUS. AND THEY MAKE COMPLETE SENSE TOO. yes yes yes you're so right the transition and connection between the songs truly genius 😭😭😭😭 ALSO LETTER!!!!!!!! YES !!!!!!!!!!!!! im obsessed please it is SUCHHHHH a beautiful song 😭😭😭😭 i cried to letter too 😭 its my new song that i fall asleep to 😭 it was with you before this hdjhfjd. its so beautiful and jikook's voices go so well together and they sound so beautiful 😭 and god it being a hidden track and starting at 6:13 of like crazy english version on the cd just .. it just feels sooooo personal and full of love 😭😭😭 i really wish it was on spotify too but I downloaded the song and added it to my playlists through local files thing on spotify 💖 omgomgomg anon you should definitely get the tattoo!!!! <333
i will believe it is "please me" and run with it 🧘🏼‍♀️ and me too 🥺 the album is so so good im so proud of him 🥺 right, im happy this album helped him to let go of those feelings 🥺
pls you know when they reviewed face off alone and like crazy three days ago and said face off wasn't eligible (?) i thought they totally dropped smf from music shows bc 1. they didn't review it along w the other songs 2. and i thought maybe they didn't review it bc it was already known that it has cussing and i got SO SAD that they wouldn't perform smf 😭 and i was confused too bc bighit did say in the notices that he would perform the prerelease track and the main track. but i was relieved yesterday when they said he performed smf 😌 anywayfddh im dumb. i can't wait to see the performances heheh <33

god seth your works are seriously magnificent <3 any time I get a notif for your account I know it’s going to be amazing
I can’t decide whether I like the angst of the main series of the softness from the polyam universe idea more.
also, I come back with some more song reqs :)
some songs that reminded me of a fluffier version of satoyn (maybe set in one of the poly verses?)
-strawberries and cigarettes (Troy Sivan)
-colors of you (baby queen)
I feel like this would somewhat fit yns and gumis relationship:
-two (sleeping at last)
And these three mashups by Clem turner are so good (you may have to look them up on SoundCloud or YouTube) (His voice is so good and the songs are so angsty… it’s perfection)
-happier than ever x boring
-all I wanted x the ghost of you x decode
-as the world caves in x cancer
(I love relating songs to fics I’ve read for some reason…)
-music anon !!
MUSIC ANON JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT LISTENING TO TWO (SLEEPING AT LAST) WITH YN AND 'GUMI'S RELATIONSHIP IN MIND ABSOLUTELY BROKE ME AND IF I WASN'T ON MY LAPTOP I'D INSERT THAT MEME OF THAT POORLY DRAWN KOREAN MEME DUDE ON HIS KNEES SOBBING
(as an added bonus Safe & Sound by Taylor Swift always made me think of Satoru & YN @ the Fushiguro kids (aka their kids >:(( ) )
the fluffy satoyn songs good lord I was giggling reading the lyrics (if only I wasn't so in love with angst lmao) Oh lord, music nonnie the first mash-up destroyed me so much hello - if Satoru started resenting his love for YN and was using that as fuel to spite YN in their marriage gOOD LORD "all I wanted x the ghost of you x decode" - HELLO??? The way he does these makes my brain INSANE BANANA BONKER CRAZYYY I love it when songs feel like a musical number oh lord my brain is vibrating at the speed of light "as the world caves in x cancer" - SO SATOYN CODED AAAA ESPECIALLY AFTER THEY HAD SEX AND DIVORCED LORD I also love relating songs to fic!! My brain will not stop thinking of skrunklys at all!! You're really expanding my music taste, I tend to always re-listen to the same songs on loop because and these are making me so happy!!

i understand that you don’t want to jump into conclusions regarding this JK brand thing but come on isn’t it obvious at this point what hype is trying to do? Until when are we going to pretend that hype hasn’t been moving weird for a long long time now? The huge push and the massive promo and the difference in how they handled his debut vs the other members’ and now this? It’s pretty clear what hype’s agenda is but nobody wants to see it. They will never come out and say yes we are focusing on one member and we want him to go solo and convert army into his fans, no body is going to outright say it so unless you put 2 and 2 together you won’t see it. I remember that i said somewhere that JK is trying to separate himself from the band and that’s why you won’t catch him filming dance challenges with the memeber and i got attacked as if i was making things up! It’s just common sense at this point. The fandom will slowly turn into solo jk stans (already half way there) and BTS won’t ever officially disband nor get back together.
anon #2
Jungkook is not going to enlist with the rest of the group and that’s when ARMY will understand what’s going on
BTS is just way too big for the company to give up on or sideline unless the members have decided to make their solo careers their main focus. ARMYs massively prefer them as a group and are growing increasingly anxious making “jokes” about the rest of the members needing to hurry up and enlist. JK will lose a lot of ARMY support if BTS seems like they’re not getting back together and the company is focusing more on his solo career, they all will (not saying they still won’t be able to sell stadiums or that they’ll flop, but they’ll never be as big as the group). Many ARMYs are already on break waiting for 2025, you can see a massive difference in engagement on twitter compared to the likes their previous tweets used to get for example, and more ARMYs will keep dropping off the longer their bias is inactive. HYBE slapping a seven onto JK’s brand name might work for half a minute but ultimately it’s not going to replace the presence of six other members, nor is it going to suddenly make his music appeal to the legion of BTS fans who actually really love their sound. It’s also not that easy to grow a fanbase out of GP. JK is still very dependent on ARMY. And I cannot emphasize enough the value of ARMY, no other fandom does what they do and the company does not want to lose that. And there’s no way to fake a group that’s not actually there, no matter how they might try and market JK. So I don't personally think BTS is going anywhere (on top of them repeatedly saying they want to return as a group) even though I understand this perspective.
But if it’s the case that the members have decided they’re going to focus more on their solo careers going forward, I could see why HYBE would over invest in the one member they think would be most profitable for them, but I do think that support is conditional. Do you think they would have gone all out for JK if he had decided to release a self produced album full of korean ballads? I don’t. I think that support comes with some major creative constraints the others might not have wanted on their albums. On top of that, I really don’t think the other BTS members would be okay with the company only properly supporting one of them.
Like I said before, the other BTS members are incredibly and undeniably ambitious. Doesn’t Jhope already have a six month plan for his return? Taehyung is already cooking up something, Namjoon stuck around because he wasn’t satisfied after Indigo, who even knows what Jimin has been up to. The thing is, that ambition might look different for all of them. Perhaps JM is okay with getting less playlisting if he has more creative freedom and that’s the tradeoff. Jimin is kind and maybe sometimes too accommodating but he’s not a pushover, and he’s also a workaholic, a perfectionist, and very intelligent. But this is where I wish fellow ARMYs would be louder and more aggressive about wanting HYBE to support their solo music better - I’m uncomfortable with the idea they’re only going to push SB projects in the US or in general, and that’s the main issue I’m worried about right now and what I think deserves pushback. It’s not even about favoring JK, it’s about favoring certain kinds of releases and not doing the bare minimum on their end for the others. But like I said in other asks, waiting to see what happens with future solo projects.
And about JK, well. I think the other members are all still undeniably close and loving towards Jungkook. Apparently vminkook in particular have been pretty tight lately. I don’t think they would be that way if they thought he was trying to get one over on them in their careers. I also don’t think JK is that calculative, he seems really straightforward to me. He literally didn’t deny a single accusation about what Golden was and what it was aiming to do, he was blunt about it. So I just really don’t think he’s trying to mislead anyone on what his ambitions are either.
And no, I really don’t think JK is trying to distance himself from the group. Every time he introduces himself it’s “Jungkook of BTS”. He took time during Seven promotions to film a variety show with Jimin. He mentions the group and the future of the group quite a bit. Of course I think he wants to be known and seen as a soloist and his own person outside of BTS, but that was part of the goal for all of them. I think it was Namjoon who said during that dinner that they weren’t really known individually or something about that and it was one of the reasons they needed this. JK wanting to make a name for himself outside of BTS is not him trying to push away from the group.
As far as TikToks, they’re all kind of weird about it. I don’t think he asked the others because they would definitely have said yes (at least JM would have), but I don’t think he or they really care to do it either. He didn’t film many SNTY challenges because I don’t think there was actually a challenge for it? He just helped two HYBE groups who had new songs. And he and Mingyu apparently have an ongoing friendly challenge to do each other’s choreo (but are behind on each others latest songs). I think JM is more than happy to help his friends film TikTok’s if they ask, but I don’t think it’s something he cares to do that much either considering ThisIsJimin is him completely doing his own thing instead of following popular trends and challenges. I just don’t think any of them care enough to put the effort in to do a challenge together unless it just works out that way (JM and SOPE were promoting at the same time for example). Actually, despite TikTok being such a massive platform, only JK seems interested in it at all. So I just don’t read into the TikTok situation. Or maybe they did do some and they're holding them for when they enlist, idk.
As far as enlistment goes, well I really just don’t think he would repeatedly say he was planning to go soon if he wasn’t. And he’s said it quite a few times, and I think NJ said that only Jin would be here for the next FESTA. JK didn’t get a Grammy either so I don’t personally see him getting an exemption. But I guess only time will tell with that and we’re going to find out all their plans soon enough. If he doesn’t enlist though, I do think the fandom is going to get even more wild, and you might see more ARMYs uncomfortable with this whole situation than you think. I wouldn’t blame him or any of them for not enlisting now btw, many PJMs wish JM wouldn’t so I don’t think it’s fair to get mad at JK for it. But if he does enlist soon, I think that would make it pretty clear that his main priority is BTS.
And yes, the branding situation did make me uncomfortable because of everything else that has been going on. It’s just like, it’s hard not to feel a little bit that way after everything that has happened this past year. I can rationalize certain things but sometimes it’s hard not to have an emotional reaction and this year has been a lot and ultimately we’re in the dark about so much. I’m going to wait for more information and to read some more perspectives that are hopefully a bit more partial and have a little more understanding of this kind of thing because honestly I’m just out of my depth here. I will say if this is just him starting his own brand to sell cosmetics and jewelry well, that’s a pretty smart business decision any of them could do. And yeah, he’ll probably do a solo tour at some point (hopefully JM too), but circling back, I really think it’s going to be after enlistment and after their next group album. I’m going to choose to believe that for now, because I still don’t think any of them would outright lie like that, although I’d be lying if all those tour comments and questions that kept popping up didn’t have me side eyeing the situation a little. I really don’t blame the pessimism and anxiousness and cynicism at this point, obviously I fall into it sometimes too, but this is just how I see things right now after thinking on it for a minute.

sorry this might be long, but literally I'm korean and I saw stays calling the backlash from other kpop stans and locals xenophobia and shading txt by saying "skz don't have to make themselves more westernized and will proudly preform a korean song" when the reason why everyone thought it was bad was because it's too extreme and not something they're used to... hell I watched it live and even I didn't expect it to sound like that and I'm used to kpop noise music. bts and bp performed korean songs at western award shows and gained tons of new fans, so it's not xenophobia or cause it's in korean it's bc of how the song sounds. if kpop fans were caught by surprise, then imagine people that have never listened to the genre. it already didn't have a good rep but people are just gonna stray away from it even more now and overall it just wasn't a good impression. I also saw stays saying "skz don't want/need western validation" when that's complete bs. they wouldn't attend the award show or mainly market themselves in the west with 12am friday releases and say they want to chart on billboard if they didn't. their entire fanbase is 90% in the west and they're not as known in korea by the general public like the other groups in their company. for example, their focus and target audience has always been in the west unlike itzy who specifically target south korea and do well there. I remember sneakers being played almost everywhere when I went to visit family in korea last summer and it being a top 4 hit on all kcharts despite western fans saying "they fell off" when you guys were never their target audience to begin with. lastly, stays wouldn't be mass voting for them to win those big awards if they really felt like the western validation didn't matter 😅 but then again bgs always have more western fans than they do korean, ggs have and will always dominate korea and that's all bc of the general public. 🤷🏻‍♀️
SPEAK 🗣️ ON 🗣️ IT 🗣️ ANON!
Nah but fr Stray Kids performing at an American award show is enough proof they want to make it into the western market. And I feel that groups like IVE, NEWJEANS, ZB1 and more that are popular in Korea is due to their sound. Their sound is more "general public friendly" rather then Stray Kids and they will obviously be more popular in Korea. And kpop stans were hating on it before the locals found out about it too..

It’s surprisingly hard to find soft spoken male Vietnamese ASMR-ers. The Vietnamese creators I found overwhelmingly seemed to be women, and all I could find for men so far was unintentional ASMR while giving interviews or lectures.
So these won’t be exact - especially as Eri has traces of other accents or something supernatural going on. And you probably wouldn’t be able to hire the creators as voice actors. I’m also very aware that individual Asian cultures and languages are not all similar or interchangeable, I don’t mean to imply that.
But I did manage to find a Korean guy with a soft breathy voice and a manner/tone I could imagine from Eri when he’s calm. He has a superficial resemblance with round shaped glasses and straight dark bangs (though on short hair).
Here’s one with him softly discussing a book he is showing you. UNO ASMR - 책읽기ASMRㅣ'우린, 조금 지쳤다'ㅣ잔잔한 목소리로 책 읽기📚 Reading Korean books ASMR https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ly8jhSo50Yg
In another he ‘examines’ your eyes with a torch (like the diagnosis scene in Eri’s library). UNO ASMR - [RP] 뇌신경검사 ASMR https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ch8R_KjGzgs
There were videos from others that were on brand, like one showing and discussing a 300 year old book (looks like an item in the archive), ones where your eyes were examined or medical experiments are done on you, and one discussing astronomy. But the voices didn’t really fit in my mind.
talking about this out of order but erebus's diagnosis section was inspired by asmr im not even kidding. you're right about a lot of vietnamese asmr being women! i've only seen maybe two women doing it. and i know you aren't implying that about cultures. you're good, anon. i also don't really see myself doing voices for any of the main awb cast because i am very, very picky, and i get embarrassed hearing people reading and perceiving my work, which is really funny considering 10:16 and having nearly 9k downloads over all my games on itch.
i like uno! i don't listen to him because i can't really listen to male asmr (i like to listen to female voices or just sounds when i'm working. i can't work with music anymore, but i can't work in silence, so the random soft noises provided by asmr have been really helpful) but the guy is really cool! erebus's voice (language aside) is a smidge higher than his.
thank u for this :) eri eri will be fully realized and calm one day

Hi Anon,
Story Time
Some years back, I moved to the US for work. I'd learned English at a young age, lived and worked with English-speakers and thought myself to be very fluent. Anyway, one day I had a business proposal put in front of my desk. I won't explain what exactly the product was, but the long and short of it is that at some point during the brainstorming session, "two girls one xyz" became the catchiest, most fitting tagline. My team had a good mix of old and young people who came from diverse backgrounds. We could all speak English and considered ourselves well versed in slang, but nobody in the team caught the reference until 2 weeks before launch, when in one of the campaigns, it sounded like "two girls one cup".
Now, for anyone who doesn't know what that phrase is, don't bother googling it. The gist is, I quickly learned that in America, you never say "two girls one cup". At least not in public. Everywhere else, this line doesn't mean anything, but in America and certain online communities, it means everything. By the time we found out, it was too late to revamp the campaign to change it, so we instead tweaked it to become a bit quirkier so those who caught the reference won't be totally put off by it. And overall the project was a success and caught on well in Germany, Poland and the UK, but if we didn't catch that reference in time, the campaign would've been a disaster. The way we caught the reference was someone outside the team, a local American, who immediately flagged it the minute he saw it in our outlook report. All of us fluent English-speakers had some vague idea of the various ways the campaign would look and sound, but nobody attached the meaning of "two girls one cup" to it.
And so, maybe that's why I buy the explanation offered by Ador. I can very easily see how an English professor at a Korean university, a couple of Scandinavian songwriters, and one Korean DJ, wouldn't know a Eurocentric slang interpretation of an innocuous English word. Because I myself, the first time I heard Cookie, didn't get any sexual undertones or innuendos. The song honestly just seemed cute to me… the puns in Korean were cute. Also, “taste it, smell it, bake it…” for Korean sweets and desserts, all that isn't odd to say. I mean, people here plan their whole days around trying out a new café and savouring a new sweet on the menu like it's a life-changing experience. It's fun and cute to attach that level of attention and importance to your sweets. The connection with CDs was obvious at first glance too (the CDs are huge in the MV so it's hard to miss), and given what I would call the ‘café culture’ in Korea, the play on words in Cookie seemed honest to God adorable, and a lot of my Korean friends and family (the few who listen to k-pop) felt the same. It probably sounds like I'm reaching here but overall I didn't think this was a big deal anyway.
International k-pop stans felt differently, but k-pop stans in general are easy to rile up, and even if Ador indeed had some ulterior motive, either way I don't really care.
I don't care for the same reason I don't care that Beyonce used the 'spazz' slang in her song, for the same reason I don't care Chaeyoung from Twice went around the US in a Q-Anon/nazi t-shirt, for the same reason I don't care about XG saying they've got 'opps', for the same reason I don't care that Mamamoo/Shinee have done black/brownface and never apologized for it, for the same reason I don't care that Florence Welch is apparently a Satanist, for the same reason I don't care Bang PD is likely fucking someone half his age...
And so on.
It's not because I don't understand the implications of all these issues, but the standard applied in stan twt for what is considered 'problematic' and 'cancellable' doesn't impact how I feel about music and the artists. I decide all that for myself.
And I like Cookie and NewJeans.

Completely agreed. Having no writing credits doesn't mean you have to throw your artistry out of the window. Taemin is a good example. Even if a song was not written by you, you can still make it your song. Taemin mastered that. Jungkook is just singing the songs but they're clearly not his. That's the difference. I know his album will be successful, Scooter will make sure of it. But I wonder if Jungkook will one day stop and think if the success was really worth all that. Jungkook became exactly what he wanted to be. Justin Bieber 2.0. There's nothing special about him or the songs anymore. Don't get me wrong, it's his choice and he should do what he wants to do. But I personally cannot support any of that. Scooter made Jungkook a puppet and Jungkook let him. Are you ready for the 236363 versions of Standing Next To You?
Careful anon, don't use the word puppet cause stans will come after you, lol.
No, but on a more serious note, I wouldn't call him that because it implies he had no power of making decisions, which I doubt. He signed off on this, he agreed, he liked the idea and that's it. Who am I to know what power of convicing Bang Si-Hyuk has over him or Scooter? But it's not even necessary for me to go down that road in order to talk about this.
Looking at the 2 singles already released, how the next ones sound like and the overall project, I think Jungkook could have just released an album full of covers and be done with it. A live session of his karaoke nights. What would be the difference when it comes to his contribution and input? The songs are basic. You have to be deep into stan mentality to not see that but it will at least look succesful cause of the marketing strategy.
Also, about that. Each time something new is happening, like other artists fanpages all of a sudden supporting the future album, CDs getting stocked, the 28348448 remix getting dropped and so much more, I get asks in my inbox. And I get that, but what I don't understand is why some of you are still surprised. You shouldn't. Everything is in line with the partnership of Hybe and Hybe America collaborating on the JK project and trying to see if they can skyrocket a Korean idol into the actual American mainstream. In order to do that, they use various methods. That's it. It's as simple as that. I don't know if they see it as an experiment or something long term. Hard to think it's the latter cause the guy is getting shipped to do his military service soon so where is the continuous presence in the American music landscape? It all sounds so ridiculous.

Thank you! I completely agree with you and anon. I know the mv is very tongue-in-cheek and isn't meant to be taken seriously, but this concept is creepy and honestly doesn't send a very good message. If you said that on twitter though you'd get crucified. The song itself is boring. The lyrics are empty and shallow and the production sounds like it's been recycled from Just Dance. JK's vocals are great as always, but there's nothing interesting or unique about his vocal delivery. He just has a pleasant tone and good technique, which I guess is why he (arguably) has the most mainstream appeal out of all the members. I'm also trying to reserve judgment until I've heard the album, but I highly doubt it'll be as stimulating as D-day, JITB or Indigo, but I'm sure it'll receive 3x the amount of promotion. As an aside, I still don't like how ARMYs just brushed over the fact that Angel pt. 1 had a convicted sex offender on it and encouraged people to mass-buy and stream it uncritically. I hate that you can't criticize the members without being accused of being an anti or a solo. They're not infallible gods. They're human. And how are they ever supposed to grow as artists if they never receive criticism?
yeah it's like... it's funny cause it's jk and we might not know him personally but we also know he wouldn't hurt a fly (or at least we can hope) but yeah all in all, considering most of his fans are on the younger side, a lot of them teenage girls as well, it is really not a good message to send :/ in my opinion it basically feeds into conservative propaganda on straight relationships and consent (but that's not surprising considering the men involved in the making of this song. anyways. we hate it here)
and i have nothing to add on what you've said about the song in itself or his voice, I basically agree with you (I would go so far as to say he has the most common voice of all the boys, I can list at least two or three idols that have exactly the same voice as him but that's my own opinion and it doesn't take away his talent or how hard working he is!!). jk has always been, by far, the most popular, also bc since the beginning big hit worked at making him the perfect idol, much more than hyung line especially (also bc he was really young and probably more easily influenced than a suga that wanted nothing to do with it at the time and only embraced the idol life when it became something he loved), what with the whole cute but a bad boy, shy but sexy, perfect at everything he tries image they built for him. they also heavily relied on his sex appeal early on to bring fans in. so it's not surprising today that it's his image that sells more than the quality of what he puts out musically
yeah I won't go back to the whole angel pt. 1 debacle but sadly this was not the first time - nor will it be the last - that BTS took part in/endorsed something that was politically more than dubious and that army followed them blindly. i mean im expecting jungkook (or ot7) will eventually do a feat with justin bieber and he is openly anti abortion and a conservative christian so 💀
and yeah totally! it's also hard to know, at the end of the day, how much of a say they have in the decision making process but even so... their lyrics have a meaning, were and still are critical of a lot of issues, ffs yun is about an openly communist south korean artist who was shun by Korean society and haegum is an openly anticapitalist song so you'd expect them to actually apply that way of thinking to their actions. and I mean army is a big fandom so it's also hard to know, as a whole, if we really show them that that's what we expect of them or if most armys don't actually listen to the meaning of their songs / don't care about it / like them in spite of the message they carry

to the anon who was insecure about being korean, im actually quite surprised, i hope i dont sound like an airhead but being korean is more popular now than ever, the anon should learn to embrace being korean!! we have sm representation now like people being invested in our music, technology, drama, countries and our culture!! trust me, wanting to be half white really wont help your case, being korean is beautiful and i know im going to seem like i have a superiority complex but really you shouldn't revise being half spanish, they also had a bad history like all countries do!
look at my winter bae dropping gems🫶🏾🫶🏾but facts all countries and races have their ‘advantages’ and ‘disadvantages’. just affirm that you never have to go through those problems🤷🏾‍♀️
like Abdullah manifested that he never experience racism no matter where he went, in a time when racism was prominent predominant.
